Problems merging events in chronological order

I have imported 3 sets of photos from differnt cameras of the same trip as 3 separate events. When i try to merge them as an single event, they refuse to merge chronologically but simpley merge as 1 complete set of photos after another i.e as three separate batches in the same event. I have checked that the dates are correct on all cameras, have selected all and checked "arrange by dates" but they still refuse to intergrate.  Pleas help

With no more information it is just a guess but I'm guessing that the time is a bit off on each camera - if you have the sort (view menu)  set to sort by date then they should be in date/time order
If this is it it is easy to correct with a smart album for each camera and using the adjust time and date command

  • Arranging events in chronological order

I am experiencing difficulty in arranging events in chronological order. For instance, if I type in an event for 10 am on a particular day, and later type in an event on the same day at 2 pm, the 2 pm event appears ahead of the 10 am event. When I attempt to drag the 2 pm event below the 10 am event, most of the time it returns to its previous spot, which is before the 10 am time. Sometimes it works; most of the time it does not. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks.

I tried to recreate your problem but couldn't.
When you enter a new event, double click on the day, enter the name and time of the event on the side panel that pops out.
Each time you double click on the day and enter a new event and its time, it will set itself in chronological order.
It may have to do with how you are entering events.
    Hope this helps.

Wait for an iOS update and send feedback to Apple. Many have reported that problem here - synced events and faces in arbitrary order, but there is no known solution.  You cannot arrange the synced events, albums, and faces on your iOS devices in any way.

  • Incorrect dates on events causing events to be not in chronological order

I have had all kinds of trouble with the dates and order of events in 08. When I click on Reveal in Finder and hit the Info button I can see the correct recorded date in the info box but in 08 under the heading of the Event it shows up as a completely different strange date like 01/01/1904. I am using the international date system in my video cameras: day / month/ year. I couldn't find anywhere to confirm that 08 preferences were set to that date system and that is the only thing I can think of that may be causing the problem.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to correct the dates and get my events to go into the correct chronological order?
    Thanks....Kevin

    Hi Karsten
Thanks for taking the time to reply. As I mentioned in my previous posting, it is not a date stamp problem because when I click get info it shows the correct recorded date in the info box. That's what I can't understand. I have imported things from different cameras including digital photo cameras and even when I open my iphoto videos they are always jumbled in a mess with videos from the same event ending up scattered everywhere in iMovie 08. That's why I thought maybe it was set up to read the US date system and not the international date system. One more problem with 08 is when you import DV video. If you import PAL it always says 'You have successfully imported about 52 minutes of video' when in fact you have imported about 62 minutes. When you import NTSC it tells you have imported about 62 minutes. I surprised they haven't addressed this basic mistake considering 08 has been out for some time now and half the world uses PAL. That's what made me think it may have been an oversight and they design it to only read the US date system which is only used in the US. I live in Japan and Japanese products use the Japanese date system which is Year, Month, Day which adds even more confusion with all the stuff I use. Anyway as I mentioned I have all my equipment set with the International date system which is Day, Month, Year, so I wonder if that has anything to do with the problem?
    Thanks...Kevin

  • IPhoto events are created NOT in chronological order

    Hey  -
I noticed that recently when I plug in the iphone or any camera to the computer to transfer photos into the computer, the event that's created is at the END of the iphoto main page.
So if I upload something that I took today, it will park that event icon down at the end near my photos from 07.
It used to create an event at the head of all the photos (reverse chronological order) - such that upper left hand corner square was the most recent pics and so on.
    Anyone know how to fix?
    I'm using iPhoto 8.1.2 in iLife '09.

This seems to be a common problem after the upgrade to iOS 8 upgrade., for example: Re: Problems with events in Photo app on upgrading to iOS8
There is nothing that can be done about it. Sorting of synced events  is not supported in the Photos.app.
To speed up a bug fix send feedback to the Developers using this form: Apple - iPhoto - Feedback
iTunes Photo sync will be discontinued soon. The iCloud Photo Library will replace it early next year in Photos for MacOS X. Already, with iCloud Photo Library Beta enabled, you can no longer sync your iPhoto library to your iOS devices using iTunes at all.

In the iMovie 11 event library, how can I get the iPhoto video clips to combine with my camcorder pics listed below and in chronological order?

Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.

  • Exports not in chronological order: How to export in CreateDate order.

Hopefully this is an easy one but I can't figure it out. I have an event with about 850 pictures that were taken over a week's time. When originally imported into iPhoto they spanned several events because iPhoto by default creates one event per day. I subsequently merged all the events, and indeed the photos are in chronological order in iPhoto.
When I export to a folder on the desktop (JPEG High quality, Full size) and then examine that folder, +the photos are no longer in the order taken.+ The first day's photos seem to be in the middle, for example. The photos were renamed with ascending number values, but, for example, image 086 appears about halfway down, behind, say, 487.
It appears that the EXIF Create Date is not the criterion used to sort exported images(?) How can I get iPhoto to export this way? Who wants to look at a disk full of vacation images that are completely out of order. It seems to me to be the logical, default way to export a series of images.
    Help! Thank you!

But when you export from iPhoto, it is iPhoto that names the files for export.
    Correct.
If you export them at the Event level, it doesn't rename them in exif chronological order correctly
Renaming in exif chroological order? Is that a feature? iPhoto does not rename files at all unless you tell it to. If you don't tell it to then it will export the files with the same name as they imported with.
However, if you open the event and select all the photos and export as sequentially numbered files, it will number them correctly based on exif data.
No it won't. It will export them as sequentially numbered files based on the sort you were using at the time of export, as OT points out. The sequential numbering has nothing to do with the exif data and everything to so with the sort order you have chosen in the Event or Album. Choose a different sort order in the Event and you'll get a different result.

  • Creating .pdf file from images organized in chronological order

I have many sets of old scanned .TIFF files pertaining to corresponding documents that I would like to get organized into .pdf files. The problem is that these files were given random names when they were scanned into a proprietary database. However they were scanned in order and have time and date stamps corresponding to that order. I have tried organizing them in chronological order in Windows Explorer and then dragging and dropping them on to Acrobat 8. However Acrobat only seems to want to place them in alphabetical order after which I have to go through and tediously put them into the proper order. Is there a way to load them chronologically? I have tried looking through documentation and looking for such an option but I can't find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry Im totally new to acrobat so this may seem like a daft question> I have scanned a document through a document feed scanner into a pdf format but some of the pages are orientated the wrong way within the pdf, is there a way to change the direction of pages and then save the whole pdf again so that everything is the right way round. I know that you can change the orintation while reading the pdf but as this is being put into web ct for students I would prefer for them not to have to do this.

  • Albums in chronological order?

Is there any way to get your albums in iTunes to go in chronological order instead of alphabetical (and also to get my iPod to sync this way?) Right now I have the album tags set so that it has the year before the album name (ie
"{2003} Interventions And Lullabies" and "{2006} Dog Problems") and it really is getting on my nerves. Any way I can fix this? Thanks

It won't sync that way... I too thought of retagging all my albums, or using sort fields, but I still want them to come up in alphabetical order when I choose Album on my iPod.
What I want is to be go Artists-> Album -> Chronologically sorted albums by artist (there are few enough of these that I can figure out alphabetical order myself if i so choose)...
Anyone hear anything to do this?

  • Photos on iphone 4 not in chronological order

I received my new iPhone 4G today and set it all up. I set it up new with the last backup of my previous iPhone. All of my old photos from my previous iPhone were successfully loaded onto my new iPhone. But, they are not in order. I'm talking about photos that I took on my previous iPhone or added to my album from the web and emails. These were always in chronological order - in order of when they were shot or added. Now all of my photos are all over the place with no rhyme or reason which makes it really difficult to find anything. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? HELP!!!

I have the same exact problem. I even intentionally edited all of my photos on my 3GS before I upgraded, and they were in perfect chronological order prior to swapping to my new iPhone 4. Now every one of my photos seems to have no rhyme or reason to the order of the images, except the newest ones appear to be following each other which may indicate it's calculating something based on geolocation or date in addition to the filename, which is just plain dumb.
I would like my images able to be viewed in chronological order and by filename not by date or whatever other criteria it's using.

  • Emails, web history, and documents not filed in chronological order

I have brought this issue to this forum on the advice of others. My computer is not "filing" items in chronological order. This applies to emails (sent and received), web histories, created and modified info for MS Word documents, etc. Occasionally, the computer starts up with the right time but the wrong day showing in Date and Time.
I recenlty purchased two NewerTech batteries to replace the original issue. (I rotate use of the batteries.) The computer says that they are holding their charges OK.
Suggestions in other forums have ruled out PRAM battery (this iBook does not have one), and private browsing in Safari. This seems to be building as a system-wide problem. If not OS-generated, it probably relates to hardware or power. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is there any chance you had moved your microsoft user data folder back at the time you did the backup? Do you have more than one user data folder?
Here's some info I found on what to do with them, if so:
+Fix if you have more than one Microsoft User Data Folder...+
+Move the entire identity folder you want to use to the Office Identities folder that Entourage is recognizing. Your identity is named "Main" by default. Be sure to rename one so you do not overwrite. Your identity folder can contain more than one identity. Switch Identities to view your old mail. If you have not used the new identity, delete it. If you have used it and want to combine the new mail with your original database, drag each folder to the desktop from one identity. This creates an MBOX file. Switch identities. Drag the MBOX files into the folder window of Entourage.+
Make sure you do those backups often!

  • IPhoto '08 - Moving/merging events causes photos to be lost

    Hello,
I'm trying to move my photos from Picasa to my iMac. I have around 20,000 photos and movies organized into folders on my old PC. I am able to import the pictures to iPhoto but when I try to re-organize events (move some photos from one event to another, merge events) the iPhoto library gets corrupted. *When I click on the thumbnail I can see a big exclamation mark instead of a photo*.
I have faced this issue yesterday (after a few hours spent on organizing pictures in iPhoto!). Today, I tried to re-build the iPhoto library by holding option and command keys - rebuilding did not help. I thought maybe starting from scratch will help - I started from the fresh/empty library in iPhoto, things were moving OK for a while, but at some point I have observed the same problem: I merged two events and I no longer can access certain photos (I can see the exclamation mark instead).
I did not open/modify iPhoto package manually. All the operations were executed via iPhoto application.
While moving photos/merging I can see the set of the following errors in the Console:
    * Unable to move /Users/Dominika/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2000/Tripto_CT/06_BristolCT06.jpg
    to /Users/Dominika/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2000/Mar 6, 2000/06BristolCT06.jpg
There are quite a few of them, but they do not seem to create the problem. I have checked all the photos reported in these messages in the console and I could open them without any issue (no exclamation mark).
*The second type of error seems to be a source of the problem:*
** Couldn't convert path /Users/dominika/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2001/Inne/070_RockyNeckCT14.jpg" to an FSRef to put on the pasteboard.*
*I'm getting these messages in the console after merging two events, and I cannot access my photos under this event any more (getting exclamation mark)*
    The third type of error:
    * Can't make new movie: -2048 from path ..../Originals/2001/...jpg
When I opened the iPhoto Library package yesterday I confirmed that problematic photos are still available in the library (but under a different relative location then the thumbnails).
There seem to be a few serious issues with iPhoto. Apart from the fact that it easily breaks the consistency of the iPhoto library, it does not report ANY error to the user that bad things are happening behind the scenes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Marcin

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Your issue seems to be with the underlying file system, not with iPhoto.
    Some background:
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
When you move files between Events they are also moved on the HD.
Couldn't convert path /Users/dominika/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2001/Inne/070_RockyNeckCT14.jpg" to an FSRef to put on the pasteboard.
means that, for some reason, the file system is unable to execute that move. (That's the reference to the FSRef). However, iPhoto thinks the file was moved, hence the !.
I've simply never seen this issue reported here before. Is everything else on your Mac working correctly?
    First off:
Check your HD for errors with Disk Utility, see if that reports anything.

  • HOW: Re-order the film clips to be in chronological order

    iMovie '11
When the clips of my cousin's New Year's Eve '10 fireworks party was uploaded to my iMovie '11, they ended up in scrambled order in the Event Library (the big window to the right of the Event Library). I realize that it is not necessary to have them show up chronologically, but I would like to order them that way.
I do not want to blow this new exciting venture by fiddling with copy and paste or dragging and dropping and then discovering that dropping it meant losing it.
So how can I rearrange those film clips such that they are in correct chronological order? There are not many. Fewer than ten.
P.S. These clips were sent to me via email labeled by the sender 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, etc, so maybe the sender sent them in jumbled order.
    -L

You can adjust date and time by right clicking on the clips in iMovie.
Alternatively, you can rename them in the finder as clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current extension.
When you rename, apply the correct chronological time, even if it is not exact.

  • Issues with photos/videos not uploading in chronological order..

I have been having issues with Adobe Bridge not uploading my photo/video files (from a CF card) in chronological order. When uploading I select to rename the files by shot date + 01.. etc. For photos the first image then becomes the last image after uploading, and for video files everything is out of order. Not sure why as the only other thing I have selected to add is copyright info. Also having issues with Bridge not converting raw files to DNG (which has led me to use Adobe DNG Converter - not terrible, but hopefully there is a reason?). I think it is a problem with Bridge, as photos uploaded to my website - something completely non-Adobe related are also then thrown out of order.. so it seems to be an issue with files that have come through Bridge at some point. Any advice is much appreciated.

I just noticed that iTunes is now accepting 'some' videos. They are all the same file type (mp4), but iTunes is just randomly choosing which videos it wants add to the Library & not.
I'm still not getting any results when it comes to the Photos.
... and one last thing ... only random songs are displaying the album art on the iPod. Yhey ALL appear in iTunes. If i restore my iPod & re-load everything, some of the songs that DID have artwork appearing on the screen now don't.
This is really messed up! Wonder if the eventual Vista-compatible iTunes will fix this problem ...
