Problems of MDIApp.java with cross-platform JMF.

Is there anyone ever tested the code MDIApp.java (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/SwingJMF.html) with cross-platform JMF before? I didn't change anything of the code, but I got the following errors when trying to play a quicktime movie.
Unable to handle format: JPEG, 512x384, FrameRate=2.0, Length=29833
Failed to realize: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@9945ce
Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@9945ce
The code works fine with JMF windows/Linux performance pack. As claimed on their webpage, the code is supposed to work with all-java version of JMF. Can anybody help? Thanks a lot.
Daniel.

  • Suggestion on using Cross platform JMF

    hi all,
I have been using JMF windows performance pack to run audio and video in an applet. After creating jar file out of that, i tried running it in another system and found that,my jar file executes only after installing JMF in that system. How to solve this problem. What if i want to execute my jar file in other platforms such as linux, mac os x,etc.Should i use CROSS PLATFORM JMF.Please help me solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

The performance pack versions of JMF are "generally" just for video capture functionality, eg. webcams and tv cards.
If your code just requires JMF to play media ( video/sound) then I suspect you can get away with the cross-platform version. But if you need video capture, then that's too intensive for pure java, and Sun had to use native code, which required the separate "performance pack" releases.
    regards,

  • Adobe software and suites with cross platform licenses

    Hello,
I am aware that Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements, and Lightroom come with cross-platform licenses (so I can install one copy on my PC and one copy on my Mac using the same serial number).
Because I own a Mac and a PC, this type of license is very useful for me.
Could you please provide a full list of Adobe software and software  suites which carry this type of license?
    Thanks

Your list is complete. As far as Creative Suites are concerned, only Creative Cloud or Volume Licenses allow cross-platform use and activation. All otehr normal retail bundles are platform specific.

  • User Role problems in Sun Java Application Server Platform Edition 8

I am having two problems setting up user roles in Sun Java Application Server Platform Edition 8. At first, I thought that it was a problem with the higher level features that I was using, so I created a very simple example using the simplest authentication I can use, but the problem still occurs. I am using the file realm and configuring the users in the App Server Admin Console. I create 2 users in different roles. One user should have access, the other should not.
    1) The first problem is that both users can access the page
    2) The second problem is that the isUserInRole() method returns false for both users with the role that it should be authenticating against.
Here is a sample of my code:
    Users Configured in Console:
    username password roles
    user1 ********** admin
    user2 ********** noaccess

    Hi Jeanfrancois,
Your suggestion has lead me to find my problem. There were actually three problems.
    1) First, you suggestion to reorder my xml file did not cause any errors to occur. I got suspicious that my web.xml file was wrong. I looked at some sample web-xml files and found that I was missing the header as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC '-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN' 'http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd'>
    2) When I added this information, the deploy feature failed stating the my web.xml file was out of order. I fixed the ordering. It now deployed, but the security still wasn't working.
    3) I then added the sun-web.xml file. This file was missing before hand as I thought it was unnessary. However, this file added the essential mapping from a role to a group. After adding this, it now started to work.
Thanks so much for you time and effort. You really did help me.

  • How to use the cross-platform jmf?

I have download a file named jmf-2_1_1a-alljava.zip,when unzip, a bin directory in it,but how to run the jmstudio, jmfregistory?

You need to get jmf.jar in your CLASSPATH, either on the command line, in an environment variable, by putting a symlink in $JAVA_HOME/lib/ext, whatever works for you. Have you done that? Once it's in the classpath, you can run jmstudio from any directory with the command "java JMStudio".
Items in the bin directory are just shell scripts, run with "sh jmstudio" or whatever suits your shell (on Mac OS X, copy one of these guys and append ".command" to the filename to make him double-clickable in the Finder).

  • Formattiing a Lacie for cross-platform video production

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes:
I've been working on FCP and macs for a few years now, but just started grad school where they have a deal with Avid and are therefore 100% PC based. I want to be able to work at home on my mac/macbook pro as well as at school with LARGE files, and bought a lacie 1TB after a massive G-Drive failure and the worst tech support ever.
Can I format the drive to work on both? Ive heard FATS32 is the way to go with cross-platform but I will be working regularly with 10GB files and up, so the 4GB restriction there won't work. Basically is there any way to both read/write files onto the drive from the AVID studios at school to my AVID studio at home without complicated partitioning of the drive, etc.
    ANy help is appreciated!

    Hi
The LaCie software and firmware updates are available from their support site here:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/support/index.htm?rid=10033
Just select your drive model from the list at this url.
You will also find a very useful FAQ there too. I seem to remember that this very topic is covered there, but I could be mistaken.
I hate to say it but you may have to go back to the beginning and just use the LaCie software to do the cross platform partition. The third party software might not do it for you but try the LaCie firmware update first as it may be all you'll need, (if you need it).

  • What is the "Cross Platform Java" option in JMF Download?

If you go to the JMF download site:
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/download.html
and click "DOWNLOAD", there are 4 options:
    (1) Windows
    (2) Linux
    (3) Solaris
    (4) Platform - "Cross-platform Java"
What is that 4th option for?

The new all Java MP3 encoder is a sweet treat though.
I was calling a small .exe that links to the iTunes encoder from my Java programs. Hey, at least I can still use it for free AAC encoding!
I tried to find the "official" link to it but couldnt.
but you can get it here:
    http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=35242
its called "iTunesEncode46" and it uses the iTunes encoders to encode wav files.

  • Re: Java Media Framework cross platform installation / setup on Mac / UNIX

JMF cross-platform doesn't support everything that the native performance pack versions support. I found this out the hard way too because pure Java JMF can't play AVI's from my digital camera but the Win32 enhanced JMF can. In particular, with my case pure Java JMF doesn't support all the frame rates that the others do.
I know Apple has been releasing some of the other APIs lately, like JAI. We might want to check over at apple.com and see if they have a native JMF impl.

    Hi,
JMF work well on OS(32bits) and Java(32bits)
    Octavian.

  • Is Java the only real way of doing cross-platform GUI

I'm planning a project that will involve some GUI-centric work (its essentially a spreadsheet with some functional programming features). I want to have it be cross platform because I would like to build it as a tool for first time programmers. I haven't really done much GUI programming before but from what experience I have, it seems that the JVM with Swing is the the least painful for the user. I've had some experience with Python, but can't find something that works equally well on all platforms without the user installing a lot of stuff. I've also considered going the JavaScript+browser route, but that's not something I'd like to tackle. Any other ideas?

Just about anything can be statically linked.  You can even statically link Python and Perl scripts with the interpreter and all the needed libraries, although that would of course hog lots and lots of space that probably isn't necessary.  Compiled languages like C and C++ are the best options for static linking imo.
I find it contradictory that you want "to give users a single file [that] they can just click and run without having to install a bunch of frameworks first", and immediately turn to Java.  Java is not universal, and it's a significantly large framework to have to install just to run one program.  I can write a GUI program with Python and Tkinter and tell Windows users to install Python first; it's the same thing as compiling a .jar and telling Windows users to install Java first.  If you really just want a click-and-run executable, then your only option (for Windows) is a statically linked .exe.
Difference being that most probably the user already has java, since more and more webpages require it to run.

  • PDF with special characters (é, ñ) needs to be legible cross-platform(mac & pc)

I am using Illustrator to design a PDF. Because it's in Spanish, accent marks and other special characters are needed (á, ñ).
When I export the PDF from the ai file and view it on my mac it looks fine. However, when I open it on a pc some of the special characters are completely missing.
I tried Creating Outlines with the text, although it will make it harder to update in the future and so less preferable to leaving the text editable. Creating Outlines works fine on the mac, however on the pc the L's appear thicker than they actually are.
Does anyone know how to make special characters legible cross-platform when creating a PDF using Illustrator?
    Thanks!!

Does anyone know how to make special characters legible cross-platform when creating a PDF using Illustrator?
Yes. You use a correct OpenType font that has the glyphs in the place where they belong and can be embedded without limitations. Older TrueType or PostScript fonts are simply unsuitable as are fonts that cannot be emebdded and require to be installed locally. It all comes down to system language settings vs. the unified environment inside acrobat. This also requires any PDF to be created on systems with the language settings correct in the first place, i.e. creating Spanish text with a Japanese version of AI would be pretty desastrous due to how foreign language fonts are accessed... check these things and then try again. If possible, enforce embedding of the full font in the PDF settings, not just a subset and choose a suitable font.

  • Problem with Cross tabs

I have a problem with cross tab.
When I do grouping on date according to month and summarize the units I am getting the result as 58
while I do grouping without the croos tab generally in the details section I get the result to be 64.
I am not able to understand where is the problem.
Even when I write a query i get the answer as 64.

    Hi,
Summarizing with a Cross-tab and creating a summary of a group are one and the same; I mean, the summary results are always the same.
Could you check the summary operation in the crosstab, could you confirm if it is not count or something else?
Also, create a summary and place it on the Group Header/Footer. It should be same as the Crosstab results for the that particular group.

  • Can I use Messages in OSX to text with a person on an Android platform? My iPhone works cross platform but I don't get the text in Messages on my desktop with OSX 10.8.2

Does "Messages" in OSX 10.8.2 work cross platform? My daughter has an android phone and I can text with her OK in iOS. However, her texts don't show up on OSX whereas texts from my son, who has an iPhone, work in iOS and OSX.

    HI,
The answer is yes and no.
As Barney-15E link says you can get the Messages app to SMS to AIM Buddies.  Or rather telephone Numbers as AIM Buddies.
    There are limits.
The computer has to be set as if in the United States (System Preferences > Language and Text > Region)
The phone is question has to be on a carrier that supports AIM SMS forwarding which only applies to some US based carriers.
The reason the SMS Messages arriving on the iPhone do not sync is that they are not iMessages  (the "No" Part).
I use Messages with the Buddy List Showing.
As a test I have added a made up number as a Buddy and also created a Address Card for it.
So Mousing over the "Buddy" reveal the "Screen Name" which is the phone Number
You have to include the Leading +1 country code as well.

  • Installing the cross-platform version of jmf

I downloaded and exploded the cross-platform version of jmf on a windows nt box. I set my classpath to point to jmf.jar(per the setup instructions). I have a simple application that basically launches the movie viewer, but using this version of jmf doesn't allow me to view mpg's or avi's (these are the only file types I've tried). Installing the Windows version of jmf works fine, but am interested in getting the cross-platform to work the same way. Is this possible? Thanks,
