Problems saving bookmarks in Safari 6.1.3

My MBP just updated Safari.  In the previous version the plus sign next to the address bar saved a bookmark for me, now it adds a site to the reading list.  I want the old way back but can't find where to change it in the prefs.
Anyone know?  Seems basic enough.
BTW while I'm on it, can anyone explain the difference between bookmarks and the reading list?
Thanks in advance.

Click & hold the + button to get a choice.
Reading list items should be available even when offline.

  • 'problem saving bookmarks' in Safari

Recently got the above message when opening safari. As of then all my bookmarks had disappeared & each subsequent opening of Safari first required three 'continue' passes in response to the repeated 'bookmark problem' message; then sys closed the attempted opening; then I can open Safari (but have no bookmarks, nor can I save any).
I've reloaded my OS x10.3.9, with no change re this problem.
txs in advance for any helpful ideas you may have.

You can only do this with MobileMe setup. If you do have MobileMe on your Mac, then you need to go into System Preferences, Click on MobileMe, Click on Sync tab, then make sure that Bookmarks is clicked on.

  • IOS 7: Problem saving photos from Safari

When I choose Save Image from an image in Safari (by holding down on the photo) the photo does not save and instead a photo I took weeks ago appears in my photo album as the thumbnail and when you open the image it's blank.

    Hello again,
Thank you for your reply. Following Iphoto - preferences - advanced, I have checked the box which says "Importing - copy items to photo library". However the problem is still occuring, whether I look for the photos in the album I created for them, or in the general library. When I try to open photos from copied from this source, even though they are displayed on the general album folder, when I click on the photo to enlarge it it comes up with this error message (as before) "The volume for P00404..etc.jpg cannot be found. Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the desktop, then try again." the photos then disappear from the screen and I am left with a black triangle with the ! mark in it.
The memory stick does NOT come up in iPhoto (as it should between the Trash can and the Albums) - but I have been able to transfer things from the desktop or emails before with clicking and dragging.... I can't quite figure out why this shouldn't work now.
When I put the memory stick in again and try to look at the same photos, it starts flashing - so it must be referencing to the memory stick at this point?
I am relatively new to Macs, so I am sorry if these questions are a bit stupid - I haven't had any trouble til now.

  • Problems saving PDFs in Safari

This issue just started today but any time I click on a PDF and do a "Save As" out of Safari I am getting the following error message:
The document "document name" could not be exported as "save file name"
Never had any issues w/ this before today and I frequently save PDFs through Safari. Any help is appreciated.
    Jared

I am also no longer able to Save As... a pdf in Safari. On another thread I read that after updating Acrobat Reader, as I, too, did a couple of days ago, a user could not save Safari pdf files. He discovered a new Adobe plugin in the Library/Internet Plugins folder (not user library) called AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin. Moving this to my Disabled Plug-Ins folder or trashing this allows one to Save As... pdf files from Safari. I have no idea what this plugin does, so I'm not sure this is an appropriate fix. I probably can't do something in Acrobat Reader now.

  • Having problems saving images on safari after iOS 7.1 update -

whenever i use safari to search images on Google and i want to save the image i hold down and i have the following options
    > Open
    > Open in New Page
    > Add to Reading List
    > Copy
    but no
    > Save Image
i have to click onto the actual picture which directs me to its original web page where it was posted to be able to hold down onto picture for "save image" option to appear whereas before the update it was simpler to save images on the search result page instead on having to open the pictures up individually. Has anyone else come across this annoying new feature? instead of simplifying things they've slightly made it more of a hassle to save images grrrr

    Hi Captwoodse,
Thanks for your reply, after trying your method i actually found out that if i click on a picture in google images mode in safari and don't wait for it to fully load and hold down my finger on the picture the save image option comes up amongst the others. However if i do wait for it to load completely i only have the options i listed in my original question. I tried your technique you suggested but again it was hit and miss with save image option appearing. So it looks like ill just have to be quick with my thumb and press down on picture before it loads! Lets hope my EE 4G connection is slower then my thumb skills
    Thank you none the less

  • Create bookmark for Safari default window size

On Jun 9 2004 Tom Graves posted a helpful hint for creating a bookmark that would resize the Safari window: it was a javascript:function setting. Could you repost that text string? thanks. Original post was entitled "Safari new window opens too large"

    Hi all,
I'm also having a problem saving safari bookmarks lately. It says the program encountered a problem saving bookmarks.
The bookmark seems to appear in the bookmarks though at least until I quit the application. After that, the bookmark no longer exist. I've been noticing this problem appearing since I've copied the bookmark file bookmarks.plist from my desktop MAC (G4/867; os X10.3.9; 1.5GbRAM) to my powerbook.
Moreover, in the last 2 days, my safari keeps on crashing every time I quit it (this problem is newer than the bookmarks's though)...
    Any help? Thanks

  • Saved tabs menu bookmark brings Safari window to unusable state

Saved tabs menu bookmark does not ask for user confirmation when navigating away from many tabs, and when the user returns to the previous set of tabs (note that this possibility isn't clear to the user), the entire Safari window reaches an unusable state.
I have a saved tabs folder as a bookmark item that is also present on the bookmarks menu bar. That means if I accidentally click on the saved tabs link instead of the address bar then my Safari session with all of the current active tabs disappears! I'd like to suggest that Safari presents a confirmation page when the user is about to change the state of more than one tab, just like it would ask for confirmation if the user were to exit Safari or close a window with many open tabs. By clicking on that single button nearby to the address bar, the entire window state is altered, not just the current tab. That's not my initial expected behaviour. On the other hand, it was also not clear to me initially that I could navigate back to the previous set of tabs when that state is comprehensively changed. So maybe the user can be informed about the ability to undo that action. For now, I will certainly be moving that set of tabs away from the menu bar, tucked further within the Bookmarks menu. But the problem that I have now is more than just a temporary unavailability of the old state.
When I accidentally navigated forward to that set of tabs, and subsequently quickly hit the back arrow button to revert to the previous state, Safari itself reached a point where the content of all tabs became unavailable. This sounds like it could be a kind of race condition where Safari needs to throw away cached information for the old set of tabs before it builds new cached information upon loading all new tabs. By aborting the process of loading those new tabs, maybe Safari assumes that the set of tabs is up to date, but the transition back to the old set of tabs doesn't appropriately trigger a reload and revert of the state. In any case the symptom is clear. When I switch between tabs in the problematic window, I continue to get completely blank screens even though I had many distinct tabs open in that window initially. It seems that to reproduce this problem what needs to be done is to have this set of saved tabs in a bookmark that is stored just below the address bar, and then to quickly navigate backward to return to the previous state. The more tabs in the current and stored session, the more this process may bog down Safari and expose this type of race condition. I also believe I may have also double or triple clicked that saved tabs button, which may invalidate the original set of tabs since the state for several sets of tabs might not be stored transparently by default. In any case I would like to recommend that Safari warn the user when this step takes place. The user could even be warned because they place a set of tabs bookmark below the menu bar, since they might accidentally click there. When this problem occurred, the other Safari window I had open had multiple tabs but this part of the Safari session was considered still working and the symptoms were not there. Yet the problematic window continues to experience the problem where all tabs are currently blank. I believe that I'll have to restart Safari to trigger the reloading of the pages, but I don't even know if that will be sufficient. I hope that this information is helpful.

Recommend to whom? Discussions is a user-to-user forum. You are just talking to other users. We don't write the applications so we can't change how they work.
If you have what you believe to be a product improvement idea, send it to Apple via the feedback URL. Posting it here is pointless.

  • We have a new iPad Mini.  I cannot save a new Bookmark.  In Safari, I go to "Share" and select "Add a Bookmark" yet when I click on the Bookmarks icon, my saved Bookmark is not there.  Am I doing something wrong?

We have a new iPad Mini, and I'm having inconsistent results using Bookmarks in the Safari icon.
For a long time, on the iPad, I could only see five items under the Bookmark icons and the Bookmarks Bar was empty.
Occasionally, in Safari, the iPad would pick up and display all of the Bookmarks from the Safari browser on my iMac.
Other times, there are only a bare few Bookmarks available on the iPad, the Bookmarks Bar goes away and I cannot save a new Bookmark.  It looks like I can save one, but I cannot find it after allegedly saving.
Then, all of the Bookmarks will come back and I can save a new Bookmark again. We can't figure out why all of the Bookmarks will show and then they won't.
I want to think this involves iCloud some way, but for right now, I'm stumped.  Perhaps we're just too inexperienced and haven't come around the learning curve yet.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue.  When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab.  But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back.  When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
    Thanks.

I used to be able to save bookmarks in Firefox. Now when I save a bookmark there is an error message that Google is having a problem saving the bookmark. Does this mean saving to Google or Firefox? When I look roe the saved bookmark it is Google.

  • HT5678 I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari. I don't have this problem with firefox

I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari.  I don't have this problem with firefox.

do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again
Sometimes, plug-ins can be in the User Library folder :
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

  • Bookmarks from safari not transferring over properly

Using intel mac pro, I am having problem moving my bookmarks into FireFox 4 .
Trying to migrate my windows base bookmarks saved in a file directly using the import feature in Firefox. it only allows bookmarks already in browser. (Safari on a Mac. No other option)
So I transferred my bookmarks into safari with no problem, trying to transfer working bookmarks into FF-4 does not work, all my bookmarks open up URL web address code.
I’ve tried following the procedure on your help file with no success…

Just guessing, but maybe the app from which your pdf was created was configured to make a ligature "ti" out of the separate characters "t" and "i". This ligature would have its own character code no. - which may then not be properly interpreted by PowerPoint 2007?
Were ligatures - fi, fl ffi etc. - always involved in the other text corruption instances?

  • Problems with Mail and Safari

    Hi,
I'm running OS 10.11 and am having some consistent problems with Mail and Safari on my MacPro Dual 2.66. Here they are:
Sometimes, for no apparent reason, selecting these applications from the dock no longer opens the application (or a new window if already opened), but causes them to be revealed in the finder.
In Safari, when this problem occurs, another symptom seems to be that new windows will ONLY open in a new tab, even though I have preferences set to open links in a new window. If I click on a bookmark within a folder in the bookmark toolbar, Safari will open ALL the bookmarks in the folder in new tabs!!
In Mail, when I open my Inbox, clicking on various messages will highlight (in blue) ALL the messages I'm clicking on, instead of simply displaying the highlighted message in the reader.
The only way to get things back to normal is to reboot my machine, which is getting to be a total drag, especially since this seems to happen fairly often.
One other thing that may be related- if my screen saver is running, and I move the mouse to go to an active screen, the computer will "freeze." It stays like this indefinitely- I figured out that if I press the button on the machine itself it will go to sleep, and I can wake it up and then everything is fine, but I don't understand what's going on.
I have tried using Disk Utility and Disk Warrior, and have used OnyX to clean out my system cache and aall sorts of other stuff, but to no avail.
Is anybody else experiencing any of this? I'm starting to get really frustrated. Thanks for any advice.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Scott,
I had posted earlier that I had Flash payer problems and then QuickTime and PDF preview problems too, on my Intel PowerMac. I could not figure out what the problem was, because fixing permissions and moving plugins did not work. Console indicated that the Quicktime components were not found, with the problem in a webkit pref file somewhere (nil field value). Anyway, I bailed and reinstalled Leopard from a 10.5.0 DVD, and then updated using the combo updater to 10.5.3. Everything worked. Then, after the 'Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 1', it all broke again. This time, repairing permissions resulted in:
User differs on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Home/lib/jvm.cfg", should be 0, user is 95.
User differs on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Libraries/classlist" , should be 0, user is 95.
Now it all works again. This is obviously a flaw with the Java update, and also somehow Disk Utility did not find it earlier. Anyway, take a look at reverting the Java update, or manually changing user for those files (I suppose user 0 is root, but maybe it is nobody).
    Obscure....

  • How can I make a back-up of my bookmarks in Safari?

I am using Safari 1.3.1 (v312.3.3) and can't find a way to back-up my bookmarks. Apple's help area say I should be able to back up "favorites" by choosing export from the fle menu. I don't see an export or import at all! Does anyone know how I can make a back up for later import (for when my OS goes down)?

At least in Tiger, there is no "save as" function for saving bookmarks. You can export the file to another location, preferably externally based. I don't believe Safari in Panther has this feature.
    For safe copies:
One alternative is to copy ~/Library/Safari (includes Safari's bookmarks and history files) to a CD-R or RW disc or even DVD. You can include other crucial non-Safari files like your keychain, Library Application Support and Contextual Items folders, Internet Plug-ins, and if space permits documents etc.
The far easier route is to invest in an external HD, creating a bootable clone of your entire system with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
