Probs in granting privs
hi there..
i created a user named as x and given th privileges like create,select,update.
but the user can able to create table but he cant able to select th particular table..
for eg..
grant select
2 on student
3 to x;
Grant succeeded.
but..
from x's side.. he is getting the error as..
SQL> select * from student;
select * from student
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist..
plz guide me..to solve this prob.

Hi there.
I'm working on an Oracle Spatial database solution and want to GRANT privs on specific records, not columns but records, for a period of time and then revoke the grants.
In other words I wish to be able to LOCK specific records from being altered for short period of time (from minutes to several hours).
Can that be done with GRANTS?
If so - what is the syntax! And under what subject in the DOC can I read about it.

chrYou can control access at row level using FGAC (Fine Grained Access Control). Simplistically, it allows you to create a function that alters (add) to the WHERE clause of all SQL statements for a specified table (or set of tables).
Let's say you have 10 customers and a single invoice table. Such a function will modify any SQL against the invoice table by adding a predicate 'WHERE CUSTOMER_ID = <current customer'. This will restrict the complete SQL CRUD interface for a customer to his data only. The current customer is determined (usually) via an Oracle Context (also called a Workspace).
Unsure which manuals cover this - suggest that you look first at the Application Developer Fundementals and Oracle Concepts guides. The basics are sure to be described there with more technical references to other manuals. -

But your message part talks about - GRANT execute ON UTL_FILE TO USER1;

Expdp users, roles, grants (privs)
(sorry for the cross-posting - I'm not sure how to delete or move threads and I posted this in the general questions forum thinking I was in this forum)
So, I think this works - still in the process of testing - but what I want to do is the following:
1) Export ONLY users, passwords, and privs from TEST
2) Clone PROD --> TEST
3) Drop all users in TEST excluding system users.
4) Import original users file from Step 1.
I think I've got it with the following. Am I missing anything? I'm testing, but if someone else has done this, I would be happy to hear from something I may be missing.

Insufficient priv error when creating a materialised view using DB link!!!!

I have a two databases db1 and db2.
I have created a database link from db2 to access user1 schema in db1.
When i try to create a materialised view by accessing user1 table using user 'user2' in db2 database, i get error "ORA-1031: Insufficient Privilege".
The user2 has the priviliges "create view", "create any view", "create materialised view" etc.
I am able to select data, of the table using the database link, but creating materialised view gives this error.
I want to know if the user "user1" should be granting any privilige to user2, if so how is it possible as user2 dosent exist in db1!
i.e should i give command something like "grant select on user1.table to user2@db2"(this dosent work as it says user2@db2 dosent exist, obviously as its taking user2@db2 as a username in db1 schema)
or is this a problem with user2 priviliges in db2 database, if so what are all the priviliges that have to be given to user2 in db2 schema.

User from db1 can not assign any privs to user on db2 database. If user from db1 want to access any object from db2 database, then on local level user2 on db2 should have all the acess to required object. Then you can use user2 on db2 using dblink from db1 user to access those objects residing on remote database.
If user1 from db1 can grant privs to user2 on db2 database on any objects on db2 database then it is highly security issue. This is not permitted.

OID-DAS Granting privileges to User
Hi All,
I am using OID to store user information from different organizations. I am using OIDDAS ( Delegated Administrative Services) to enter user information. To incorporate the delegation model I am able to create a user and give him privilege to add other users. I can also give him privilege to grant privilege to other users. However, for security purposes I do not want them to be able to grant or use the 'Allow Oracle Delegated Administration Services configuration' privilege, that appears by default in the window. Is there I can alter this.
Any help on this will be much appreciated.

If someone could help me out with this, I'd really appreciate your help. We have a rogue programmer who can't seem to stop writing UPDATE queries against our production instance. :)
We are using Oracle Applications, FYI. We've set up a developer with his own login with basically read-only access to the entire database. Is there any way we can give him write and create access to just a particular schema? He'll need access to update and create tables in our CUSTOM schema, but all other schemas need to be read-only.
I'm farily new to Oracle, so if you could explain this like you would to a four year old, I'd sure appreciate it. :)

SteveYes, you can grant privs in modular way, or you create a Role and grant required privs to the Role and grant that role who ever needs in the development team this way you need not have to redo the grants everytime a new developer joins.

I'm trying to assign global roles to enterprise users via the ESM but it doesn't seem to work. I'm able to connect to the database and I can see that I'm correctly authenticated using sys_context('userenv','external_name'),sys_context('userenv','session_user'), but I don't get any global roles associated with the enterprise role I'm assigned to.
Ideas? Anyone has an idea how can I debug this or set a trace to see if I'm even really associated with the Enterprise Role?

or write a stored procedure that allows the user to grant privileges presented as input parameters and contains a hard coded list of those privs that can be granted.
Personally I find the idea of giving anyone, other than a DBA or trusted security officer, the ability to grant privs a violation of governance and security practices and would discourage you from doing so except within the context of a procedure as described above. -

What I am suggesting is not the cause of the FLOWS_030000 user existing error, but could be another issue which caused your installation to fail.

You have specified an absolute path when running the apexins.sql script. In order for the installation to succeed, you must first change your working directory to the directory where you unzipped the apex_3.0.zip file and then run the script. This is because the apexins.sql script subsequently references other sql scripts, using relative paths.
You have also not included a password in your command, was this just for purposes of the posting, or could this also be an issue, as in:
@apexins password tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images

SQL Developer and Blocking View of Other Users' Objects
I am using SQL Developer in a classroom environment. My student users can “see” Other Users objects. They cannot modify, but none the less can see the structure and data.
I only want the users to be able to see their own objects. Is there a privilege that needs to be revoked? (In using SQL Plus command line, this was not a problem.)

From sysdba account (sys/system). Run following and verify for that particular user grant is revoked. May be exit from sql developer and log back in or refresh view.
YOu can also potenially revoke all the privs from all non admin uses i.e.r even connect/resource roles and grant them back.
revoke select any table from yourschemaname;
revoke connect from schemaname;
revoke create session from schemaname;
revoke resource from schemaname;
Then just grant privs as need basis
grant connect to schemanme;
grant resource to schemaname;
grant create session to schemaname;

I want to create a new user in OEMS 11g who should be able to access only the scheduler jobs section.
How can this be acheived?You can create new administrators via the Setup --> Administrators page
You can grant certain access rights to targets, you can not however grant priv to only access the job system

Then i tried to create form and report on webservice:

All the fields i keep as default
I tick the checkbox (url)in report Parameter
After clicking next whereever required i click create button

evidently the problem is a lack of public execute on DBMS_LOB, which is used in the generated IR source.
while waiting for the DBA to grant privs on DBMS_LOB, changing the dbms_lob.getlength call to length() fixes the IR.
however, i am not getting the download link on the associated form page... changed templates, that's not the issue -- we'll see if that's a dbms_lob issue as well
