Product User Profiles

I am trying to determine if I can apply Product User Profile directives to groups of users at once. For example, I may have a system with a few thousand users and want to disable SQL*Plus access from the whole lot of them. Obviously I'd much rather do this through roles rather than inserting all those records in the PUP table for each and every single user.
Is it possible to apply a PUP to a group of users?

Hi
PUP table accepts wild card as userids. If you have a standard pattern for your users' names, you are lucky. eg: Just use usr_% for all user starting with usr_
If you just insert '%' as userid , It revokes the rights from all users.

I want to restrict my users to access my database using SQLPLUS or any other third party tool. I have used Product User Profile to restrict users from using DML commands through SQLPLUS. Product User Profile doesn't work with any third party tool. Is there any other tool provided by Oracle to restrict users from accessing the database using third party tool similar to product user profile in sqlplus or any other setting required to do in product user profile for restricting users from accessing database using third party tools.

    Hi
We use one method for this. All users have only one default role and other roles have a password. There is wrapped procedure with 'secret values' of parameters. When user login in our application we call this procedure and it set all user roles as default.
It is not very secure but it work. So think for this. If you want email me and I will send you example code for this procedure.

Please provide me suggestion on this .
    Thanks,

  • User Profile information

I have recently installed the 8iLite on a win2000 pro desktop. WHne I log in as scott on POLITE, I get the standard:
    Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
Ok, so I log into the POLITE as system and run this command:
    @PUPBLD
    It creates some synonyms.
I log back in as scott and still get that message. Is this a problem and how can I resolve it?
    null

    Try these
    Login as system
    Query dba_synonyms
product_user_profile synonym should be a public synonym
    select from product_user_profile
    delete entries for scott.

  • Claims Based Authentication and Editing User Profiles

    Hi All,
I have an interesting issue where I have a SharePoint Farm setup with both the intranet and mysites web applications setup using Claims Based Authentication. While everything seems to work fine, you are able to search for users, view properties and users
can change their own profile properties. However when you configure a profile administration account (an account with the "manage user profiles" permission on the User Profile Service Application) and you attempt to use that account to edit
another users profile you get hit with a generic error page.
Delving deeper you get the following errors:

Any help with this is appriciated.

This line offers clues about the actual problem:
    Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserNotFoundException: DOMAIN\AUSER
According to the MSDN link (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.server.userprofiles.usernotfoundexception.aspx)
it is not able to find the user in the profile store. Additionally the link you mentioned (http://kb4sp.wordpress.com/2012/12/05/user-cannot-be-found-shenanigans-one-way-active-directory-trusts-and-sharepoint-2013)
suggests that the account being used to validate accounts on the production domain may have a problem.
If there a way you can test that account in isolation against the DC?

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS + User profile Disks + App-V = Explorer.exe crashing all of the time

I have built a new RDS farm on Windows Server 2012 R2 with two Session Hosts and a combined Connect Broker/Web Access server. I had the farm up and running with User Profile Disks and all seemed OK. However, as soon as I installed the App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS
client on the session hosts, the explorer.exe process started crashing for any user logging in via the Web Access site. The process crashes and restarts every five to ten seconds. It's the same for administrators. If they log in via Web Access explorer.exe
crashes, but if they RDP directly to one of the session hosts explorer.exe is fine. If I reboot the session hosts, then the first user to log in via Web Access has a stable desktop session (and appears to have a new profile as well). However, if that user
logs out and back in again, explorer.exe starts crashing again. The only applications I have packaged at the moment are Office 2013 and Firefox.
I tried disabling User Profile Disks, but this caused a whole bunch of other problems and I eventually lost the ability to log in at all via Web Access (errors about the user profile service). As this is a small pre-production environment I completed scrapped
all of the servers and rebuilt from scratch. Again, everything appeared fine until I installed the App-V client, then explorer.exe started crashing repeatedly for all users.
Has anyone come across this issue before? I have tried installing the App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix Package 2, but this didn't help. I have read in a few forums that App-V doesn't work very well with User Profile Desks, but I have not heard of this particular issue.
Similarly, SP2 seems to have a lot of problems, so I am going to try removing App-V RDp Client SP2 and installing SP1. I ahev also deleted User Profile Disks for the test users to recreate their profiles, but this didn't help either.
    Any other suggestions welcome!

I forgot to include the application event log entry for explorer.exe crashing:

  • Initiall SharePoint Server 2013 setup -- unable to manage new User Profile Service Application

During initial farm setup, creating an initial User Profile Service Application works fine.  However, once it's created, I cannot 'manage' it through the Manage Service Applications page in central
    admin.
I get a generic error (Sorry, something went wrong / unexpected error) with a correlation ID that doesn't seem to match any ULS log entries. (Yes, I merged logs from all machines in the farm.)
A Windows event log entry says:
A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: Endpoint Failure
Also frequent errors in ULS logs:  (see below)
    UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException
User Profile Application      Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Micro…
    SPDistributedCache DataCacheException
I did notice that the file 'ProfileService.svc does not exist in SharePoint's web services app at the URL you see in the error. (below)
I also found it interesting that the event log error shows 1 active endpoint and 3 failed endpoints.  I have 2 WFEs and 2 app servers.  But I'm only trying to get the user profile service app running on the application
servers.  I have deleted and recreated this service app several times under various names (deleted/recreated its app pool as well) and wonder if these other failed endpoints could be orphans from previous instances...
Any thoughts on how I might successfully create this service application?  I've already been Binging my head against a wall long enough that I would have been better off reinstalling the entire farm...  I may still
    do that.
FYI, my farm came from a slipstreamed SP1 install package, and received the July CU after several other things were already configured, including the already-failed UP service application.

User Profile Service - User Profile Incremental Synchronization Progress: 33% Status: Pausing
It has been almost 15 days.
Both User Profile Service and User Profile Synchronization Service are in Started state and FIM service also starting
I tried clearing sharePoint config cache.
I also restarted the sharepoint timer service.
I tried almost everything that is on Internet but nothing helped me.
Is there any other way to solve the issue as I was struck on production server (ASAP)
In synchronization serivce manager status of MOSS_DeltaImport is Inprogress from past 2 days
    Best Regards.

    Hi,
Please follow the steps in the link below to clear the configuration cache.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jamesway/archive/2011/05/23/sharepoint-2010-clearing-the-configuration-cache.aspx
Here is a similar thread for your reference:

Or try to clear the file system cache on all servers in the server farm on which the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service is running. Microsoft has provided a step by step procedure on clearing file system cache from the SharePoint front-end servers
    in this kb article.

  • User profile images not persisting after log off on Server 2012 R2 RDS Session Hosts

    Hi,
We have a 2012 R2 remote desktop deployment, with two session collections, a gateway server, and connection broker.
We have set these session collections to use centralised user profile disks.
What I am having an issue with, is that when a user sets their profile image through the server they have logged on to (I have the desktop experience pack installed so they are able to do this), they can see the user tile has been set with that image in
settings and also on the start menu, but as soon as they log off the server and back on, their profile image has been reset to the default blank image.
I have checked all of my group policy options, and cannot find any settings that could be impacting this.
Does anyone have any ideas why these images are not persisting for users or admins?
    Thanks, Eds

Please check that the user is not getting a temporary profile each time he logs in. Also, make sure that the RDP client is properly configured to display the Wallpaper: http://www.webapper.com/blog/index.php/2007/10/18/enabling-desktop-wallpaper-on-remote-desktop-terminal-services/

  • Essbase client missing after creation of new windows user profile

I created a new windows user profile after an apparent corruption of my old one. However, when I open Excel, the Essbase client (add-in) is gone. Smartview is still there. The client doesn't show up after registering Essbase Add-In is executed. I can add the client by navigating to C:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin and selecting essxleqd.xla and essxcln.xll. The add-in then appears to be installed. However, when I try to connect to Essbase, the connection dialog box does not show up. I'm on version 11.1.1.3 and Excel 2007.
Is there a way to resolve this short of re-installing the client? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    dave

I remember the Essbase add-in used to be a small executable of a few MB that was easy to install. It's my understanding that they went to the global installer where they include various product assemblies. The files needed to run the global installer for a simple add-in amount to close to about 4GB in size. Our VPN for remote users is very slow and takes forever to install. I see ther is still a small executable for the Smartview install. Is there a small executable for the Essbase add-in somewhere that I'm not aware of? I can reinstall if that's what it takes. I was hoping there might something a bit less time consuming.
    Thanks John.

  • Firefox 35.0 update loses Windows desktop and user profile

Recently updated Adobe Reader and Flash player and Firefox to 35.0 on Windows 8.1 Dell laptop. This resulted in the administrator user profile failing. Windows Event Log has:
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.
Windows was unable to load the registry. This problem is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
    for C:\Users\Andy\ntuser.dat
Non-administrator user is ok. Reboots did not help. I did system restore and all was well. Then I only updated Firefox to 35.0 and got same problem. Restoring again fixed the issue.
Windows updates were last installed 22-Dec-14 and there are currently 9 updates waiting to be installed. Adobe is also notifying tht updates are available for Reader & Flash

This is appears to be a Windows problem.
Yes Firefox may not be working but it would appear to be because of a Windows problem.
    * See ''You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message '' http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
I do not think installing or upgrading Firefox could be expected to produce such an error, but if it did I would have expected this forum, and the input feedback to have had a sudden spike in complaints.
I am not noticing anything on this forum. The input feedback no longer has the useful pictorial graphics, but interactive results are here if you wish to look through them

Note people are probably more likely to complain than compliment. it is not at all unusual to have more negative than positive reports.
You could try asking on a Windows forum. Try doing a web search if you do not already have some favourite forum. Or have a go with this one

  • Unable to see Active Directory Groups in the User Profile Database after Profile Import

***Major Update - I have finally been able to get the direct attention of the folks responsible for the User Profile Service on the SharePoint Product Team.  Long story short, they have reproduced the error and identified as an actual mistake
that needs to be fixed, so it is now officially in the bug pipeline and will be fixed.  The current estimate is some time in the summer.  They will keep me updated with timeframes, which I am allowed to share as time goes on.
SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise RTM. W2K8R2 w/multi-server setup:
    AD/DNS
    SQL 2008
    WFE
    APP
Claims Mode Web App only using Windows Integrated Auth
So, this was never a problem in 2007, and I didn't even realize it was a problem in 2010 until I started to build a solution that utilized my blog article:
InfoPath - User Roles in Browser-Enabled Forms Using AD Groups.  I went to utilize the same web method of the same web service, but I noticed that no data was showing up at all.  Typically,
the GetUserMembership/GetCommonMembership methods return the specified user's memberships: AD Security Groups, AD Distribution Lists, and SharePoint Sites (not SharePoint Groups, though).
My user profile sync is working.  All AD users are pulled in with the proper profile data.
"Users and Groups" is selected in the Synchronization Entities section of my Sync Settings.
Security groups are working for permissions and audience targeting.  Confirmed my users are affected properly by the use of Security Groups.
My query to the GetUserMemberships web method (and GetCommonMemberships) is running (not failing), but it's not returning anything even though my user is in some Security Groups and has explicit membership to multiple sites.
The GetUserProfileByName method of the same UserProfileService.asmx web service
returns all the regular profile data like expected, so the web service works and my profile database is populated
Basically, I'm not seeing my AD groups or any membership data populated in the profile database.  I did use MIISCLIENT.exe to see what I could find, and here is what I saw:
Using the Metaverse Search, I searched for the "person" type and saw all of the users in my profile sync connection (single OU)
Using the same tool, I searched for the "group" type and saw nothing, but the message said 4 items were retrieved
I realized that the only column showing was displayName, and they were blank, so I added other columns to be sure
objectGUID, objectType, distinguishedName all showed values, and I could now see all the Security Groups from the OU where I'm doing my profile sync
My "person" objects all have displayNames showing but none of the groups do.  In SharePoint, the GetUserMemberships method relies on displayName and accountName, but neither are coming through the profile import
So, it does seem like the groups are coming in with the profile import, but I can't see them.  I also can't verify that the groups are being associated with my users in the profile database, because doing a query to the membership methods returns nothing...not
    even blank rows.
***Edit:  New information!  Regular AD Distribution Lists _do_ work properly.  I just never bothered testing them until folks on my blog notified me.  DLs come through the profile sync, are visible in the profile database, and show up
    when using the GetUserMemberships method.
***Edit: Ok, now we're getting somewhere.  I checked my last profile sync with the MIISCLIENT, and this is what I found:
Here are the properties of my Distribution List:
Here are the properties of my Security Group:
Notice that the groupType value of the DL is a normal integer (2), but the groupType value of the SG is some crazy negative number.  Both types are still lacking DisplayNames for some reason, but when I retrieve the DL via GetUserMemberships, it DOES
show the proper DisplayName despite nothing showing in the MIISCLIENT.

    My Blog

    Hello Clayton,
I have same problem with SP 2010 and now I am testing SP 2013 and seems that the problem still.aa
Probably I have some configuration problem, but all seems work, except this.
SharePoint 2013 has no improvements on this. Until seeing this thread, I thought it was an issue within my farm configuration or AD Service account for User Profile Sync. And I've dug far and wide for any other possible settings which would prevent users
from populating in the site people-picker. This might be flagged as off-topic, but I'll beg differ. How can I expect SharePoint to retrieve AD Users and Groups for accuracy in the sites which rely on this server??? Frustrating. I've spent hours and days on
this! I have 3 SP2013 farms with multiple clients (different OU's/containers and security groups). Testing in a separate QA DEV farm with the same config. NO luck yet!
This is where I'm at with it (posted this as a question recently on SharePoint Stack Exchange):
"Help.... Please.... Users from AD groups are not populating in the site people picker. I've set up a SharePoint 2013 site collection permissions group with only AD groups in it, no users added directly. Whether or not I give this SharePoint group permissions
to the site content, I still get none of the AD users showing up in the people picker. I have done the iisreset after adding the groups.
I've checked all of the people picker properties in stsadm to be sure there are no constraints in effect on the web app or site collections.  User profiles are synching and I've tried both AD import and User Profile Sync.  The AD groups are security
groups, though not email-enabled.  The AD service account has all the special permissions. My web app is claims based. My app pool runs with Network Service account.  No policies in place to restrict users, checked CA and the site collection settings.
What am I missing? I've read in multiple places that this is a supported/working config. So why can't I get these users to populate in people picker for things like Assigned To in a tasks list, or attendees of an event? "
There is some pretty good insight here, but no real hope:
    User profile
synchronization: importing users and security groups in SharePoint 2010
Other Properties that I checked, before realizing this was an issue with the Profile Import...
stsadm -o getproperty -pn siteuseraccountdirectorypath -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-activedirectorysearchtimeout -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-distributionlistsearchdomains -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-nowindowsaccountsfornonwindowsauthenticationmode -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-onlysearchwithinsitecollection -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-searchadcustomfilter -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-searchadcustomquery -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-searchadforests -url https://URL
    stsadm -o getproperty -propertyname peoplepicker-serviceaccountdirectorypaths -url https://URL
Hope we find a better answer, as it IS very misleading. User Profile Import specifies Users, or Users and Groups. Nothing is said about Containers or Distribution Groups, worse yet there lacks any clear disclosure about how "Groups" will not
actually import if they are a Global Security Group and the users contained within them exclusively will NOT be included in your profiles,
nor in any compiled Audiences. Which was another BIG bummer!
I'm hoping to see future improvements on the Group imports.

  • User profiles service services failed the logon on windows server 2008 R2

    Please help!
I have try the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215

Still could not logon and it shows the error only for that user. Other users or new user are fine.
The step that I did not do is RESTART a server. because this is production server.
Please help if there is any solution to fix this.

    Hi,
Is the group policy Do not logon users with temporary profiles configured?
If yes, please disable it, then run gpupdate /force on problematic machine and test if the issue persists.

  • Aging out user profiles in Call Manager

If a user profile is deleted in AD what is the length of time before that user is “aged out” / removed from the CUCM and CUC user DB?
Is there a difference between how it works in 4.1 with Cisco Customer Directory Configuration Plug In vs. LDAP Synchronization in later version?
My understanding is that in 4.1 the Plug In extends AD database to Call Manager and it is not embedded in Call Manager as it is in 5.0 and later. Not sure how that plays on removing users from CUCM through synchronization.
Additionally, my understanding is when a user profile is removed from AD, it gets flagged during Synchronization and that could take a minimum of 6 hours after sync for the user profile to be removed in CUCM or whatever the synchronization is scheduled to.

    Oli,
It all depends on your sync frequency. If you remove users from AD, CUCM will mark them as "delete pending".
CUCM garbage collector will rip these out 24 hrs later.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_configuration_example09186a0080a57c4c.shtml
Every night at 3.15 am, an internal process called the Garbage Collector service runs. This process permanently deletes any account that has been in the
Inactive – Delete Pending state for over 24 hours. The Cisco Unified Communications Manager does not sync Active Directory passwords. Cisco Unified Communications Manager has no knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory encryption mechanism. Instead, in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.0, a default password of ciscociscoand a default PIN of 12345are assigned.

We migrateed the production databsae from Solaris running 10.2.0.3 to OEL running 10.2.0.5. The method we used is exp/imp and it seem everything fine. However, it found that some of the user profile (ie. IDLE TIME, ) limit is not the the same as the old database. It seem the user profile is not migrated successfully.

You can see limit value of FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS, IDLE_TIME and SESSIONS_PER_USER are different.

It is not a user profile, but the default one which already exist by default in the database and not overwritten when importing.
By the way, IDLE_TIME is same on both sides.
