Programmatically Inserting Row in a 1-1 Master Detail

JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0
In a 1-1 relationship, your accessor will be returning a ROW instead of a ROWITERATOR/ROWSET.
This means that you first need to create a row to even set the row rather than getting the rowset and inserting directly. I'm looking for the best way to insert a row in both the master and detail programmatically.
So far what i've done so far are:
1. Inside VO i have a method that i expose that creates master row then creates detail row using their entity definition:
<masterName>EntityImpl masterRow = <masterName>EntityImpl.getDefinitionObject().createInstance2(this.getDBTransaction(), null);
<detailName>EntityImpl detailRow = <detailName>EntityImpl.getDefinitionObject().createInstance2(this.getDBTransaction(), null);
detailRow.setAttribute("masterId",masterRow.getAttribute("masterId));
2. Create in ApplicationModule by getting VO's and utilizing create and insert VO methods.
I'm wondering if there is a different approach in doing this. Take note that this is a 1-1 relationship.

Drag the Create operation for your VO to the page as the first button.
Then use the same VO in the pop-up as a form where people insert the data.

  • Field values erases when Add Row button is pressed in Master Detail Form

    Hi,
    I am using APEX 4.0. There is a master-detail form in a page, this has 5 rows in it by default, has a Add row and a Delete button. I face two problems now:
    1. When the values are entered in all the 5 rows, that are in default, and Add Row button is clicked, these values are entered in the DB, but they are erased from the interface. Means when user clicks Add row he don't see the old values he has entered. All new empty rows are only seen. This might confuse the user. How can I resolve this.
    2. The values are saved to the DB only when the Add row button is clicked, so suppose if the user enters some wrong values in the default rows and after he clicks Delete button, all the field values are erased. Is there a way to delete only that particular row? (Please note: the values are not saved to the DB, unless the Add Row button is clicked)
    Please let me know how to resolve these 2 issues.
    Thanks.

    So let me get this straight:
    You enter information into a tabular form and then click the add row and the data is being duplicated from the prior row or being inserted into the table ?

  • ADF TreeTable One row data to create a master-detail parent-child relation

    I want to display an editable detail table on a page. The problem is the detail table has many fields so that the screen scrolls horizontally. I need my page to just fit on one page without scrolling.
    now my idea is to use a TreeTable. A lot of fields on the detail table will act as children of the main node so I can fit the table onto one screen without scrolling.
    So there is really no master detail relationship because Im referring to the same row data.
    Not the usual use case of using a Tree Table but just wondering if this is possible. I posted this hoping that anyone could shed a light on this.
    regards,
    Anton

    You can do that like in this example:

  • Programmatically inserting row in ViewObject

    I have created Entity Object based on table and updatable VO based on the Entity.
    Now i need to add a new row in the table. I have a button Add new row , on button click a popup will open with the fields in the row.
    Entering the field ,clicking on OK button on Popup should insert the value in the table.
    How can i achieve this in Jdev11g?
    Thanks in advance.

    Quantity
    Rate
    Interest_Percent
    Service_Charge
    Vat_Tax_Percent
    The Relation is like
    Between BILL_HEAD and BILL_TAIL is Master Details Relation
    Between BILL_TAIL and BILL_TAIL_DET is one to one relation
    In single form i am not able to insert record.
    If i build Master details between BILL_HEAD and BILL_TAIL, BILL_TAIL and BILL_TAIL_DET, when i run the for to insert data.
    I will put the data for BILL_HEAD data
    For this parent record there will be child record in BILL_TAIL block.
    For this BILL_TAIL parent record there may be a child record in BILL_TAIL_DET or may not. Suppose i put a child in BILL_TAIL_DET.
    Then i wanted put one more child record in BILL_TAIL block, if i say next record, it is asking me to "save the record first".
    Please help me in this regards

  • How to insert a row in the detail table of a treeTable (master/detail)?

    Is there any small, working example with JDev 11.1.2.1 on how to programmatically insert a row in the detail table represented by the treeTable component?
    Please don't send links to this example http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2010/05/crud-operations-on-tree-table.html , which does not work.
    Thanks.

    Erp, why do you keep giving the links to that example or the zip including the project of that example? I explicitly asked to not send any links to that example, which does not work with jdev 11.1.2.1.
    This is the exception from that one when trying to create a new record on the details:

  • Insert a row in master detail view & jboRowKey parameter

    Hi
    I hava a minor problem.
    On JSP page I have edit form for master view, beyond edit form is browse of detail view. I would like to insert or edit a row on master view and after update and commit, a would like to stay on the same page to insert some rows into detail view.
    When I editing rows it is Ok, becose jboRowKey parameter is always the same (to find proper row on master view).
    Problem appears when I want to Insert a row into master view, becose after transaction is commited, jboRowKey parameter is changed.
    Primary key on master table is sequence and it is inserted by (preinsert) trigger before commit.
    If anybody has some idea to solve this problem, please help.

    Without knowing exactly the technology you are using, (JDev version, BC4J JSP tags/Components tags?),
    In general with BC4J after you do a commit, you do not necessarily have a record pointer on the new record that you just insert on the master table, so you would have to locate it again.
    Here is one way you could do this.
    After you commit your new inserted record, you could go back to a master "browse" page which shows the records of your master table along with a link to it's corresponding detail page. Encoded in the link you could pass the rowkey of the master record as a parameter and then in the detail page you could locate the master record that was clicked on by using the Find operation of the Row tag. When the master row is located, you automatically would be pointing to the correct detail records.
    In this case since the master was just created, there wouldn't be any detail records yet. You could then create new detail records for the new master..
    Let me know if this helps..

  • Multi-row insert in master-detail tables

    Hi, I'm using jdev 10.1.3.2 with jheadstart and my problem is:
    I hava a master-detail structure, both are tables and my goal is that I want multi insert (exactly 3) in master and detail table when user makes new order(some business scenario). I cannot create rows in master or detail VO by overriding create() method because its entities have complex primary keys and some part of this key is populated by the user with lov. So I set in jhs new rows to 3 and checked multi-row insert allowed but the problem is that overall I can only create rows in master table after I submit form. I want to create row in master table and fill rows in detail table, and after that I want to have opportunity to create second (or even third) row in master table and fill rows in detail table.
    thanks for help.

    See JHS DevGuide: 3.2.1. Review Database Design:
    If you are in the position to create or modify the database design, make sure all
    tables have a non-updateable primary key, preferably consisting of only one
    column. If you have updateable and/or composite primary keys, introduce a
    surrogate primary key by adding an ID column that is automatically populated.
    See section 3.2.4 Generating Primary Key Values for more info. Although ADF
    Business Components can handle composite and updateable primary keys, this
    will cause problems in ADF Faces pages. For example, an ADF Faces table
    manages its rows using the key of the underlying row. If this key changes,
    unexpected behavior can occur in your ADF Faces page. In addition, if you want
    to provide a drop down list on a lookup tables to populate a foreign key, the
    foreign key can only consists of one column, which in turn means the referenced
    table must have a single primary key column.

  • Master-Detail Multi-Row Insert

    Im still using Oracle forms 6i. How do we create here in ADF for the transaction in master-detail operation specially in inserting multi-row in detail. In forms we can use key-next item trigger next_record for new record transaction for drugs or we can use bar code scanning to insert new records & automatically go to next records waiting for another input...
    pls help me i want to upgrade & pls sorry for my english...
    just want this adf behave like forms in terms of master-detail transaction entry...
    i appreciate if someone can help me or give me demo file to download & play with it...

    tnx for the fast reply..
    im new with jdeveloper and no knowledge in java or html. im concentrated in pl/sql , forms 6i.We still using this until now in character base in unix environment but some module in gui mode.im working in hospital which is complete informations sytem (stock,pharm..etc...gl...) which in bulk transactions specially patients outclinic & inpatients charges.now we have also this reservations system for out clinics thats the reason im like to develop for in a web that a patient can reserve on line and i dont like running our application in different front end (forms 6i &jdeveloper).
    (now currently checking form10g & just set up AS10g which is working.can deploy and connect,LAN). but im very interested in ADF when i see the demo on Oracle website.
    now our company pplanning to change our application to power builder whiich is not good in performance regarding in hadling big databases (slow query,needs burst AS...) thru to the demonstration of the
    apllication vendors.
    im very glad if you can help. can you post a links or demo file to do this as you said....(You can replicate the code in the button in some other event on your page, for example when the value of the last field in the row is changed.
    It all comes down to the question of when you actually want to create a new row, and in that event you call the createInsert method.)
    this is my only problem now to make this master-detail multi-row insert like ora form.
    again sorry for my english...

  • Master-Detail and Auto Insert Detail rows

    Apex 3.0
    I'm trying to do a Master-Detail form. I have it set to stay on the same page when I Create a new Master Record.
    Now, what I would like to do is auto insert data into the Detail Rows some predefined information and have it ready for the user to enter the rest of the information. I did this by creating a Page Process to trigger on the Add Row button for the Details region. The code I used is:
    begin
    insert into purch_insurance_type (Contract_ID, INSURANCE_TYPE) values(:P7_Contract_ID, 'General');
    insert into purch_insurance_type (Contract_ID, INSURANCE_TYPE) values(:P7_Contract_ID, 'Automobile');
    insert into purch_insurance_type (Contract_ID, INSURANCE_TYPE) values(:P7_Contract_ID, 'Excess');
    insert into purch_insurance_type (Contract_ID, INSURANCE_TYPE) values(:P7_Contract_ID, 'Workers Comp');
    insert into purch_insurance_type (Contract_ID, INSURANCE_TYPE) values(:P7_Contract_ID, 'Others (Builders Risk)');
    end;
    P7_Contract_ID is the PK on the Master table and I predefine the Insurance Type. The rest of the table the user is able to enter as needed.
    When I run it, the new rows show up but the Insurance Type is NULL and browsing from one record and back the new rows are gone. It seems like the PK for the Detail rows are not being filled. I have a Sequence Trigger set to fire on Update:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "BI_PURCH_INSURANCE_TYPE"
    before insert on "PURCH_INSURANCE_TYPE"
    for each row
    begin
    if :NEW."INSURANCE_TYPE_ID" is null then
    select "PURCH_INSURANCE_TYPE_SEQ".nextval into :NEW."INSURANCE_TYPE_ID" from dual;
    end if;
    end;
    ALTER TRIGGER "BI_PURCH_INSURANCE_TYPE" ENABLE
    What am I missing? Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi All!
    I think there is no solution to this problem, only single selection is the solution.
    If any one has anyother solution plz let me know.
    Thanks and regards.

  • "Failed to validate all rows" when inserting in master detail scenario

    Hi,
    I have problem writing data in a master detail scenario..
    i use the following bean method to write data.
    Data is inserted in the master table successfully but when i try to commit in the details table i get the error "Failed to validate all rows in a transaction."
    public void save(ActionEvent actionEvent)
    //writing into master table
    DCBindingContainer bindings =
    (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    DCIteratorBinding iterBind =
    (DCIteratorBinding)bindings.get("Master1Iterator");
    MasterVOImpl vo_pr = (MasterVOImpl ) iterBind.getViewObject();
    Row r=vo_pr.createRow();
    r.setAttribute("Name", name);
    Number num =(new oracle.jbo.server.SequenceImpl("new_seq",vo_pr.getDBTransaction())).getSequenceNumber();
    r.setAttribute("Id",num);
    vo_pr.insertRow(r);
    vo_pr.getDBTransaction().commit();
    //writing into details table
    DCIteratorBinding scopeiterBind =
    (DCIteratorBinding)bindings.get("Detail2Iterator");
    DetailVOImpl vo_sc = (DetailVOImpl) scopeiterBind.getViewObject();
    Row rs=vo_sc.createRow();
    rs.setAttribute("iddetail",iddetail);
    rs.setAttribute("Name", Name);
    rs.setAttribute("id",num);
    vo_sc.insertRow(rs);
    vo_sc.getDBTransaction().commit();
    Note: the Detail iterator used here is the one under the master in the AM

    In case your model defined a view link from master to detail should try to get the detail iterator from the master and use this to create the new row.
    Row r=vo_pr.createRow();
    r.setAttribute("Name", name);
    Number num =(new oracle.jbo.server.SequenceImpl("new_seq",vo_pr.getDBTransaction())).getSequenceNumber();
    r.setAttribute("Id",num);
    vo_pr.insertRow(r);
    // this method gets the detail iterator for the master row you just created.
    // The name of the method depends on the view link in your model you expose to the master view
    Row rs=vo_pr.getDetail().createRow();
    rs.setAttribute("iddetail",iddetail);
    rs.setAttribute("Name", Name);
    // this value should be added by the framework
    //rs.setAttribute("id",num);
    vo_sc.insertRow(rs);
    vo_pr.getDBTransaction().commit();Timo

    Hello,
    The base idea here is if the record is added successfully you would then get the new primary key then manually add the record to the underlying data source. Does not matter if we are talking a single table or a master-detail setup.
    The following shows the basics
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Adding-new-records-into-bff5eaaf
    All of the above is done without using a DataSet yet the same thing needs to happen with a DataSet, simply focus on the one table.

  • Master/Detail in create mode with single row insert

    Hi,
    My jheadstart version is 10.1.3.2.52
    I want to insert master and detail together on same page in create mode.
    I have these settings:
    - Master Layout: Form
    - Detail Layout: Table
    -"Single-Row Insert Allow" (Checked)
    -"Single-Row Update Allow" (Checked)
    -"Single-Row Delete Allow" (Checked)
    -"Multi-Row Insert Allow" (unchecked)
    -"Multi-Row Update Allow" (unchecked)
    -"Multi-Row Delete Allow" (unchecked)
    -"Show Add Row Button" (Checked)
    When I Generate and run Application and click New Button, my detail table don't have any New Button.
    Then I set "New Rows" to 1 for detail table and generate and run again, but problem still there!
    Can you help me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    But I don't want multi-insert row be enabled(because of some logical reasons that forced by my scenario).
    If I enable multi-insert row, even without "new row button" and just set "new row = 1", when user insert first row and click save button, one more empty row automatically add to detail table. I don't want this behavior. I want only one empty row for my detail table in create mode.
    thanks again.

  • Insert multiple row of BLOB using Master Detail Form

    Hi,
    I try to insert multiple photos in a master detail form (just like we upload attachments when sending email), but it seems that the Tabular Form doesn't support adding a row with BLOB. I have searched the User's Guide and API Reference, but no answer on this issue.
    Anyone can help?
    regards,
    Wei

    Many thanks,
    I find another way. I released the FK of these two tables and used the code:
    Insert into PRODUCT_INFO (TITLE) values(:P1_TITLE);
    IF ( :P1_PHOTO1 is not null ) THEN
    INSERT INTO PRODUCT_IMG(PHOTO, MIMETYPE, PROPERTY_ID)
    SELECT blob_content,mime_type, "PRODUCT_INFO_SEQ".currval
    FROM APEX_APPLICATION_FILES
    WHERE name = :P1_PHOTO1;
    DELETE from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES WHERE name = :P1_PHOTO1;
    END IF;
    IF ( :P1_PHOTO2 is not null ) THEN
    INSERT INTO PRODUCT_IMG(PHOTO, MIMETYPE, PROPERTY_ID)
    SELECT blob_content,mime_type, "PRODUCT_INFO_SEQ".currval
    FROM APEX_APPLICATION_FILES
    WHERE name = :P1_PHOTO2;
    DELETE from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES WHERE name = :P1_PHOTO2;
    END IF;
    The disadvantage is that I have to set a certain number of items for inserting photos; the max numbers of uploaded photos cannot decided by users.
    Regards.

  • Master-Detail prevent inserting detail row if master doesn't exist

    Hello,
    I have a complex page that has several master-detail table pairs on it. I have what should be a simple problem to work around that I can't seem to figure out. On each table (either master or detail) I have a create button in the header and a delete button in each row. I have a couple issues I just can't seem to get past.
    1. How to disable the detail create button if no master row exists or one hasn't been selected by the user? (Right now you can create detail rows without a valid master row)
    2. How to disable the master row delete button if there are any (commited or not) detail rows present?
    I think I have figured out 2 by having a transient attribute on the master row that uses groovy and the view link accessor to count the detail rows. This appears to be working but if there's a better, cleaner solution I'm all ears. I just can't seem to get 1 working no matter what I try.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    hi,
    you can use estimatedRowCount of iterator to disable the button like
    disabled="#{!(bindings.mastervoIterator.estimatedRowCount ge 0)}"and use currentRow property to determint whether current row is selected like
    disabled="#{!(bindings.mastervoIterator.currentRow ne null)}"so the combination will be as follows
    disabled="#{!(bindings.mastervoIterator.estimatedRowCount ge 0 and bindings.mastervoIterator.currentRow ne null)}"hope this helps...
    Regards.
