Programming function keys

I am using an ergonmic keyboard by Ortek (Model EKB-805PRO) with my new 24" iMac Duo. Is it possible to program the function keys to provide sound control (increase volume, decrease volume, mute)? Some of the function keys work (F12=dashboard; F11=clear windows from desktop; F10=dim everything except active window). The others seem to be inactive.

Probably not doable since keyboard shortcuts are application task specific. Why not just use the Dock? Single-click launches any app mounted on it. CMD+Q quits any.

1. Create a ".exe" file for the .NET application.
2. Create a PF-STATUS and assign the Function Code for the desired Function Key in the SAP program.
3. In the USER COMMAND code inside program, when the respective function code is triggered, write the below code with the path to the .NET exe file.

Double Click on your Screen and then Elements Tab, give OK_CODE of OK_CODE.
Now in Click on Flow Logic Tab , uncomment MODULE STATUS_YOUR_SCREEN_NUMBER. Create this.
Here you find SET PF_STATUS Just Double click on this this will enable you to Assign Function Keys.
If you want to Assign Function Key to the Push Buttons that you created Double Click on the Push Button then on the Attributes Screen you can enter the Funciton Code for this Push Button,

Can a function key be assigned to launch a program?

I never seem to use the F13 - F19 keys. Is there a simple way in OS 10.6.5 to assign one of these function keys to launch a program, rather than having to click it in the dock? It would be a nice convenience, but not nice enough to have to purchase a separate program. Thanks.

Quicksilver, free, reviewed at [http://www.macworld.com/reviews/product/526533/review/quicksilver.html] However the doing a web search for this reveals somewhat uncertain sources. There's a 10.6 version at http://www.blacktree.com/ The site looks pretty broken but the download still works.

Seeing that Quicksilver's site appears to be unsupported you might be better with the Spark recommendation. One Spark user even said they had given up on QS for Spark.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Check in BIOS -> config -> Keyboard if there is an option to switch between default and legacy mode.
If you don’t find that option, you may try the Fn+esc combination that changes the function keys to legacy mode, but when the computer reboots, it might reset back to a default mode and you have to use Fn+esc again.

Does the iPad support Function keys natively, not through another program?

I have my Operations department which needs to access a couple of customer databases through the web using a java applet. I do not want them to have to come to the office so we got them a netbook, but I was hoping that the iPad would be a better solution and quicker as well.
But it needs Function keys, anyone know?

The iPad does not support Java, so the issue of functions keys would be moot. The only way to run Java would be to use the iPad to take control of a computer, and whether function keys in that scenario would work would depend on the remote-control solution used.

Program a Function Key, OSX Mountain Lion

Hello,
I have just learned that if I hold down a whole bunch of buttons I will be able to capture the image of an active dialogue box in an application and have Mac save it automatically on my desktop. The combinations are: Command + Shift + 4 + Spacebar + Ctrl.
That is a lot of buttons to be pressing simultaneously and also difficult to remember.
Is there a way to redefine a function key on the keyboard to execute the combination of the commands?
My goal is to capture dialogue boxes of some applications because I am writing articles about features and usability. Do you have any other suggestion as to how to do this?

You don't have to hold all of those simultaneously.
Cmd-Shift-4 gives you the selection icon, where you can drag out what you want.
If you then hit the spacebar (not holding anything else down), the cursor will change to a camera and you can select entire windows.
Either way, if you hold down control while you click, it will go to the clipboard instead of saving to a file. The shortcut is actually listed as cmd-ctrl-shift-4, but since there is a second click involved, you can press the control key while you click.
Cmd-shift-3 does the whole screen. If you want the whole screen to go to the clipboard, you do have to hold down cmd-ctrl-shift-3.
You can change keyboard shortcuts in the Keyboard System Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts tab, Screen Shots item.

Function keys not working in XP under Boot Camp

I have a slight problem with Boot Camp with XP.
When I first installed it long ago, I recall there was a Boot Camp icon in the Windows tool bar, and the function keys could be used to change the volume, brightness, and keyboard backlight. Now, there isn't, and they don't.
I've run 'repair' from the Leopard DVD, but still the functionality hasn't returned. This is particularly irritating within a game because I can't even change the volume without quitting to desktop.
Note that the Boot Camp partition is also used by Parallels, just in case that's a factor. Other than that, I can't think what it was I might have done to have caused whatever Boot Camp installed to facilitate this functionality, be removed/disabled.
Any ideas how I can repair it without starting again from scratch?

I'm having similar issues with no real luck. The only 'solution' I've found is to manually start the KbdMgr.exe program each and everytime I turn on Windows. The program is in the Bootcamp folder, and I put a shortcut on my desktop.
KbdMgr is set to start with Windows, but it doesn't. I've even done a repair install of Windows, removed and reinstalled Bootcamp drivers with no success. I can't find an actual solution anywhere, just workarounds.

How can I use Automator to toggle the Function Keys?

I am trying to create a Automated process to toggle the Function Keys on my keyboard. This is because I use several programs, including After Effects, which use the F1-12 keys, but when I am not using that program I commonly use the Apple-defined shortcuts on the keyboard. I have a full-sized keyboard, hence no Fn key. So that's out right away – I've read several comments on this topic where people suggested that this is the ONLY option. I refuse to beleive that.
Automator contains a "Watch Me Do" feature, which I have tried to use to record this process. Problem is, it never clicks the right object. If I record clicking the dock, the magnification (I suspect) throws off the virtual-controlled mouse and picks the wrong object. If I record the Apple Menu route, it gets it about 1/2 the time.
I think what I'm really looking for is a console command I can feed into the Terminal which toggles the keys. It seems to be that this HAS to be an option, even if it is more than one line of commands. I believe if I can feed this process into Automator, it would work.
Any ideas?

iKey lets you define function keys per application. You seem to want to turn on & off the defined apple keys. Not sure if these keyboard re-mappers will do the trick.
Here is my other most favored application. Of course, I haven't checked these out in newer OS's. I'm a Tiger man myself.
iKey is a front end program that simulates typing and mouse movements. I use iKey to remap the Function keys.

iKey has a little more function then the previous free version called youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported. The youpi key download is hard to find & no longer here.

I have the common programs that I use assigned to function keys. I have F4 assigned to Firefox. When I want to start FireFox, I press F4. When I want to switch to firefox, I press F4! Starting & switching to an application in Mac OS are the same thing in Mac OS.

How to add function key to a menu exit in a standard transaction

I have a requirement to add a function key for a menu item in a standard transaction.
In Menu bar we have an option Extras->Other->Repricing . Now my requirement is if i click a function key (ex. F9) the code under the menu exit (Repricing) should trigger. For that i had a function exit EXIT_SAPLJHPA_011 and in this the menu exit SAPLJHPA +CU7 is defined.could anyone suggest me the procedure in detail to add a function key..

for this u have to edit standard PF-status, that particular transaction is using. becarefull as the same pf-status may be used for many programs.
get the PF-status for that program. you can get the pf-status via se80, give the program name and u can get the the list of all the objects of that prigram, there you can edit the standard status and can add the function key to your menu item.

Is there any way to get function keys on wireless keyboard to function like they do on a PC for the iPad?

I need function keys for the warehousing system I run for work.
I am logged on via VPN and Pocketcloud app in a "PC like" desktop.
The program is E-term by Eclipse.
Hoping to be able to use wireless keyboard to do this.

Thanks for your efforts in confirming my results. I'd prefer not to use any activex or .net containers, since this will make the code extremely coupled to a specific platform. If I can find a way to do this, using window handles or something, via WinAPI that would be preferable, because I could use a conditional disable structure to comment out the code on non-windows machines.
If anyone has any ideas about how to receive these events, using window handles and messaging, that would be great.
