Programming java in PDA

Hi all,
I am very new to java.
I am wondering if it is possible to development simple program (mainly for learning java) in Java at PDA powerd by Palm OS. I mean I actually want to write any pure java program at my pda, and run it in my pda.
The reason about that, I want to learn java, and prototype somethings in java, while I am on the way to my office or back home (2 hrs!!)
therefore, if it is possible, what do I set up for my pda, or is that any simple java IDE for Palm OS?!
thanks a million!

  • Method to get working Java program on a PDA

    Hello all,
I am attempting to create a java program for my PDA. I'm trying to use CrEme to do it but I am having many many problems with it. I've looked on the forums and they all appear to be posts where people have some clue. I have none.
For example. Can you use any sdk to develop the program. Can you simply develop a desktop app and convert it to use on a PDA?
Once CrEme is downloaded what do you have to add to the classpath on your desktop to compile with it. Up till now I've simply compiled with the standard java system using %javac my_app.java
What do you type in the command line to run the emulator?
In what form should you port the program to your pda? I've tried using .jar files. I load it and nothing happens. What do I have to type in the jRun command? Whats a .lk file and how do I use it?
So many questions so little time. I am genuinly confused by all this and some help would be appreciated. I have looked around the internet and can find little or nothing to help a pda newbie . Incidently if I have missed anything online and this is all just wasting someones time, could they show me where I've missed it?
    Thanks a lot
    N

I built a lot of applications to run on my PDA (Sharp Zaurus SL5500). When I first got the PDA I didn't know any Java. What I do, and it may not be useful to you, is to develop on my desktop using as few classes not supported in 1.0 as I can get away with. That seems to make the code runnable on the Zaurus JVM (which is JEODE). I don't use an interactive development environment (I never have gotten the hang of them); I just use a text editor that supports syntax highlighting (CONTEXT). Then I copy the compiled classes to the PDA and run them there.

  • Java and PDA's

    Hi everybody,
I'm thinking about purchasing a PDA and would like to develop my own apps for it with Java. What are the requirements are for running Java on any PDA? What OS's support Java? How do I get Java onto a PDA? Which PDA's support Java?
As you can see, I've got lots of questions. Any comments/recomendations would be great!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    short:
there are basically 2 versions of java for pda's, personal java and micro java (J2ME).
The latter seems to grow in popularity since it is configurable for different targeted devices, depending on their capabilities (Memory, Connectivity etc.), and is beeing deployed on a lot of devices, especially smartphones -eg. Motorola Accompli 008, Siemens SL45i etc... - but also the on Palm OS Devices, wireless (Treo) or not (5xx, V..).
If you're gonna use Java on wireless Handhelds or SmartPhones, go for J2ME.
If you need rich GUI's, Sound, Image processing or other advanced features, go for Personal Java if it can't be done with J2ME.
To get familiar with both "Versions":
    Personal Java: http://www.sun.com/software/communitysource/personaljava/
    J2ME: http://java.sun.com/j2me/index.html

  • SAP NetWeaver - Business Programming Java

    Hi.
I am new to SAP and see that NetWeaver has three branches. Can anyone please tell me if I were to follow the <a href="https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/011000358700003123382006">SAP NetWeaver - Business Programming Java</a> branch, what type of work in the SAP environment will I be doing?

it depends which netweaver module you work into...
    1. if you are in UI development you can work on WebDynpro development + Enterprise portal , should also know NetWeaver development infrastructure..
you would typically be working in web enabling of your SAP backend and putting all your work under the secure environment of Enterprise portal..
    2. If you are in XI, the there is a combination of XI work  + Java development (Mappings / Adapter module development + Adapter Development) you can go for..
    3. CAF is one area where you can in addition to pt 1. can work on the development of composites...
in almost all cases, you should be well versed with NWDI as a tool to have a source control system + transport mechanism...
Also...fair knowlegde on SAP WebAS as the application server (like WAS / WLS) would always be an added advantage..

  • Exception in the main client program: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection

    Hi
I have written a program in Java using RMI and it runs perfectly fine on my pc(localhost). But when I run it on the LAN in my office, the client program stucks and I get an exception
***Exception in the main client program: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host***
    ***java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect***
Do we need to make some settings in the RMI server...or some firewall issue is there...By default port is 1099 as used by RMI registry server
    Please help me TIA
    vnx_in

Hi, i am having the same java.rmi.ConnectException, but the problem is that i can't even run it on localhost. I simply can't start my server, and i am getting a problem on Naming.rebind, however i think it could be because i am using an static ip to connect to internet in the LAN of my town. Does it matter in this case. I would be so thankful, because i am not able to solve it after many efforts.
    Thanks in Advance :)

  • Help Me! How to send sms from a java program with a pda connected to system

    help me ,
I am new in JavaME. I have to send sms from a java program, A PDA is connect to the system. Can some one help me to make that program which interact with PDA connected to system and send sms to any mobile or pda phones.

    user12873853 wrote:
I believe JavaMail API will help in sending the mails and SMS through SMTP server. Sounds more like false hope than belief to me. The only way that would work is if you have an SMS gateway that allows communication through SMTP. Doubtlessly some exist (searching for 'JavaMail sms' through google certainly seems to indicate this), but if you have to ask you don't have one.
And that exactly where you are stuck: to send SMS messages you need an SMS gateway. That will be the first thing you have to shop for, until then there is no reason to think about code, protocols or implementations. It can be as simple as hooking up a mobile phone, but then you cannot send bulk messages of course. Most likely you'll need to shop around for a partner that has an SMS blasting service you can use.

  • Java with PDA

    Hi,
I have two years programming experience in Java, and I now need to write a program that will run on a PDA - most likely a Compaq iPAQ. I need to send input data from the PDA via Bluetooth to other mobile devices, and also parse the information input by the user into an HTML that will be sent to the internet.
It all seems very complicated. Is there a version of Java that will run on the iPAQ? Also, should I wish to connect the PDA to a PC running Linux RH9, is there a version of Java that supports the COM port?
    Thanks.

The type of J2ME running on the pocket PC, is called "personal Java" which is based on the "Java 1.1". So basically you'd feel no difference. But ofcourse there are certain things need to consider.

  • Overview on Java and PDAs

    Hi folks,
for a study research project i need to find a good solution for the following simple thing:
i need to develop a java based gui application to run on a pda - possibly a high end device with all the features :-) ..
a year ago we were just running familiar linux on an iPAQ and the arm vm from from sun - which resulted in a very slow program flow... i guess for now that there are (1) much faster pdas and (2) so much better and faster jvm solutions.
where can i get a good overview of the possibilities? which solutions do you all prefer? which operating system to use?
so now where to spend my money on? only a good pda and possibly free software to develope? do i need to invest on software, or are there - good(!) - free ide's?

I think a custom built Hardware based on pxa255 Arm core processor with Linux
on it will be a good solution.
You can put KVM+MIDP or even JVM+JRE can be put on this linux and then you can build your GUI based applications !

I pull up the command prompt and enter javac "program name".java and it compiles fine. Then, when I type java "program name" it gives me the Java.lang.ClassNotFoundException. Can anyone please help me??

[Bug ID 4711700|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4711700] is eerily similar to what you're experiencing. Although the bug was reported against an older version of the JDK the last comment provides a workaround to the problem that may be helpful. Good luck.
