Proxy server - how to find out
Hi to all,
i'm writig a java web start app and i'd like to know if my user has a proxy
server to connect the internet.
How can i read this setting?
I know, it should be saved in javaws.cfg (or deployment.properties) file,
i'd like to know your opinion if there is a better way to find out this
setting?
Or the one and only way is to check java web start version, than to find a
config file and finally to find a right section in this file to read if my
user uses a proxy server.
Thanks in advance for all opinions.
Best regards
Maras
I can't remember where it was documented, but you can check the following system properties, which are automatically set if you lauch an application via WebStart:
proxyHost, proxyPort, httpsProxyHost, httpsProxyPort

How to find out server name in reports9i
hi all
how to find out server name in reports9i
i need the report server name to call a report
thanks
Edited by: vikas singhal on Nov 5, 2008 1:02 AMYou do not need to do anything, if your Report server is on the same machine as the Forms server (which is usually the case) you simply use the url as
/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport' and the server will automatically use the default report server.
then you simply use
web.show_document('/reports/rwservlet?userid=scott/tiger@orcl&report=myreport&desformat=htmlcss&desname=test.html'Tony
Try it now

How to find out which server is running on which port
hi all,
how to find out which server is running on which port, i want to know both
from front end and backend?
thanks and regards
srikanthThe best source to get all the ports you have is the Context Files.
All ports are defined in the Context Files through "AutoConfig Variable". You can get the list of those variables by referring to the following note under "What is the port pool? What if I want to give a specific value to a Server Port?"
Note: 216664.1 - FAQ: Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=216664.1
You can also get that list via OAM.
Referring to the installation log file should also be helpful (Unless you have changed any of the ports after the installation). -

How to find out about the SMTP Server
Hi,
I have been trying to configure groupware in the portal - in particular I want to enable the sending of emails through the portal. I already have a how-to-guide that that seems to explain the steps quite well. However, it mentions that I need to know the SMTP Server of the email. Can you tell me how to find out about the SMTP Server? Where do I need to look for the name of it?
Thank you and regards,
KatharinaHi Katharina,
you need the SMTP server of your company. This means you can't look for it in the portal, but have to ask the responsible person in your company.
Kind regards,

How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.
Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.
Thanks
Rajan
INo core files?
No hope for an answer.
As you learned in the other Internet forum.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/how-to-find-out-the-info-regarding-solaris-server-hang-or-shutdown.-621500/
To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that. -
How to find out the application server info
Hi, I am wondering how to find out the application server info in Java code, just like how to find out the db platform being used. Thanks
Hi,
I am not aware of any spec defined way of finding out such info. There may be vendor specific APIs or mechanisms.
But you can use environment entries in your deployment descriptors to specify the information and make use of the entries inside your j2ee component. That will make your code platform neutral.

How to find out the exact version of web server 7.0
Dear all,
I am using currently web server 7.0 and in error logs its shows me following version
Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 B12/04/2006 10:15
what i need how to find out what exact version i am using in my webserver 7.0 is it update 6 or update 7 or update 8
how to find out what exact version i am using in web server 7.0.....
thanks and regards
tigerWeb Server tells you specifically which Update release in the string you quote (in your string you are running the original release of Web Server 7.0).
My server is currently running Web Server 7.0 Update 7. The startup string looks like:

How to find out sql server administrator account in sql server 2008 R2
how to find out sql server administrator account in sql server 2008 R2
adilthere is any way to find out actual administrator
because i forget that user i used to logon to server and installed sqlserver
adil
Hi adilahmed,
According to your description, you forgot the account which was used to install SQL Server. SQL Server service account information is stored in Windows Registry database. You can get this information from Services Console or SQL Server Configuration.
For example, to get account information from Services Console.
1. Go to Start > Run > Services.msc
2. Right Click on SQL Server Service, i.e. “SQL Server (InstanceName)” and go to properties
3. The account information is available under Log On tab.
Or you can get the information by using DMV and so on.
SELECT servicename, service_account FROM sys.dm_server_servicesGO
If you now log in SQL Server by using sysadmin account, you can check all login names in security and find the original account to login.
Thanks,
Sofiya Li

How to find out ASE backup server?
As backup server is a separate service. how to find out if ASE engine has backup server or not?
Or how to get into backup server and find out what ASE this backup server is working for?Just to add a little to Gek's reply, addressing your second question:
Or how to get into backup server and find out what ASE this backup server is working for?
That you can't really do. A backupserver can be used by multiple ASE servers and doesn't maintain any permanent registry of servers it is used by. From a connection to ASE, you can do a SYB_BACKUP....sp_who remote procedure call to get some information on current activity on the backupserver, but the information is pretty limited.
1> SYB_BACKUP...sp_who
2> go
spid status loginame hostname blk cmd
1 sleeping NULL NULL 0 CONNECT HANDLER
2 sleeping NULL NULL 0 DEFERRED HANDLER
3 runnable NULL NULL 0 SCHEDULER
4 runnable NULL REL157SP1xx* 0 SITE HANDLER
6 running sa bret-sun2 0 NULL
(5 rows affected)
My ASE's name is REL157SP1xx_bret_sun2, so you aren't even getting the full name of the ASE backupserver is currently working with. I had just booted the backupserver, so the Site Handler was started to handle the RPC call, it doesn't even mean that server had ever dumped a database.
While you can connect to the backpserver directly with a client, the backupserver does not have a command language processor, so any commands you send directly to backupserver (as opposed to rpc calls) will only get the response "no language handler installed", like this:
bret-sun2% isql -Usa -P -Srel1572nb_bret_sun2_back
1> select @@version
2> go
No language handler installed.
That is why the (polite) way of shutting down a backupserver is to issue
"shutdown SYB_BACKUP" from a client logged into an ASE. (the impolite
way is to use an OS kill command against the backpserver process).

How to find out when XI Server was Re-started Last ?
Dear Experts,
Can anybody tell me How to find out when was the last time XI server was Re-started. ? I want to know both ABAP as well as Java instance. without taking the help of basis.
Any T-code or Log which can give me this info.
Regards,
UmeshHi Umesh,
This can be one idea to check for last restart of server.
Goto Tcode sm21 and filter by date range and press the tab Reread system log if you see a continuous yellow triangle in Priorty column and the text details are like Stop WorkprocXX, PID XXXX that means the server was down at that time.
and if again you see the continuous green lights with the text like Start WorkprocXX, Pid XXXX
The time corresponding to these messages gives the time and date of the last restart of the XI server.
Thanks! -

How to find out if a user is logged into a windows XP or VISTA machine
Hi,
Could somebody please tell me how to find out remotely over a LAN, whether a user is logged into a computer that is running windows XP/VISTA or not? How can this be programmatically done if we know the name of the remote machine?
Thanks.
RavisaraHi,
Thanks for all the replies.
Actually it seems that my question has either been misunderstood or has been badly phrased by me.
What I want to know precisely is the way to find out if a user is logged into a machine or not. Say for example in a LAN there are three computers called A, B and C. If my Java program is running on machine C, how can the program check whether a user is logged into machine A? Assuming JRE is present in all three machines, the machines have as their OS windows XP or VISTA and all machines are connected to a windows domain(Windows 2003 server based network)
The idea here is to identify all the computers in a network that users are not logged into and then to remotely shutdown those computers in order to minimize wastage of electricity(preferably after a particular time of the day in an organization).
Any replies would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,

How to find out what user locked account
We had production type schema account locked this morning. I checked profile which this user belongs and it has 3 times for Failed Login Attempts. My question is how to find out what user had 3 unsuccessful login attempts and lock this account.
Oracle version 8.1.7Assuming that [auditing was enabled|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/security.htm#sthref2916], the command
AUDIT CONNECT WHENEVER NOT SUCCESSFULThat will write audit records when there is an unsuccessful login. Depending on how you've configured auditing, those records will either be written to the SYS.AUD$ table, in which case you can query them through a few different views, or to a file on the operating system that you can grep.
