Proxy server usage

One of my customers is trying to use the OHS as a proxy server .
This is the use case:
B2B Channel has been setup to use SFTP with a Trading Partner.
They want to use a proxy-server on the DMZ for all communication and file transfers with the outside world,
and do not want to expose the internal SOA 11g/B2B server.
Is there a recommendation from Oracle B2B experts on how to achieve this?

I've implemented something similar in 10G B2B.
B2B SFTP transport to standard Apache 2.2 (not OHS).
B2B SFTP transport has proxy port and address specified, as well as target (user, private key, server name).
B2B SFTP transport uses a public/private key for authentication to target (no authentication to Apache proxy - Apache server uses ACL's for internal access).
Apache proxy uses a virtual host, listening on custom port (not 22).
This works well and the same Apache proxy is used for proxying AS2 and ebXML connections.

Newbie usage of Proxy Server 3.6 SP5 : files not cached at all

Hello,
I'm trying to test the proxy server to see if it is caching files coming from our portal. It seems that nothing is cached but at the same time the browser is able to cache files.
The urls to cache have mostly the following form:
http://myportal/portal?cmd=image&object=toto.gif
In the access log, the url seems to return a 304 http code and is not cached.
So my question is : is the proxy server supposed to cache files that can be cached by the browser or is his behaviour different from the cache management of a browser.

I recently had to do a System Restore on my Windows 7 64 bit machine and then I got the dreaded "Safari has stopped working" windows whenever I try to launch it. To be more specific, Safari, doesn't even launch. I get that message. Then when I click "Close the program", I get the "Safari has stopped working" message again. After I close that, then it stops.
I've tried reinstalling the latest version of Safari twice now, and it still isn't working.
I also tried creating another Windows account, and Safari does not work on the new account either, unfortunately.
Finally, I also tried your "So-much-for-subtlety" instructions and that unfortunately did not work.

Migrate certificate 3.x to Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.20

I try to migrate from Sun iPlanet Web Proxy Server(SPWPS) 3.6 to Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server(OPWPS) 4.0.20 and I have some problem.
I have an instance in SPWPS-3.6 with SSL certificate, when I migrate it to OPWPS-4.0.20 using the admin interface, the certificate
is not migrate with this error message :
Migrating Keys and Certificates...
[Error] The password entered for the key is not valid
Assimilation failed.
But I am sure to enter the right password.
After that I manage the new instance in administration interface, and in Security Panel, there is a choice to "Migrate 3.x certificate"
I try this, but I get this error message
Incorrect Usage
The password entered is not valide
Can somebody help me to resolve this problem ?

Your proxy instance should start. The error you are seeing should only be for the admin server. Add the location of where your jvm.so is located to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. The jvm.so is located under the JDK directory.

Recommended setting is the default setting which is 25 .dot.
If your situation is abnormal and you see message delivery throttling state to “4” when the following performance counters are high or if you expect any of you integration
process could have impact on following counters, then you can consider the suggestion by Microsoft. Don’t change the default setting.
High process memory
Process memory usage (MB)
Process memory usage threshold (MB)
You can see these counters under “BizTalk:MessageAgent”
You can gauge these performance counter and its maximum values if have done any regression/performance testing in your test servers. If you have seen these counters having
high values and causing throttling, then you can update the Process memory usage.
Or unexpectedly you’re process high throughput messages in production which is causing these counters to go high and cause throttling, then up can update the Process memory
usage.
The above two cases where I know my expected process usage (by doing performance testing) or suddenly my production server processing has gone high due to unexpected business
hike (or any reasons) which caused throttling, then do changes to default throttling setting.
Just changing the default setting without actual reason could have adverse effect where you end up allocating
more processing capacities but the actual message processing message usage ever is low means you end up investing in underutilised resources.

AppleTV 2 Proxy Server

Is there a fix yet for the lack of ability to add a Proxy Server to the AppleTV 2?
This is a serious limitation, and if not fixed, I'll be selling my AppleTV's (3 of them)to someone who doesn't care about the security of their network, or the security of keeping their kids safe online.
I am setting up a proxy server so I can limit the time my children are on the internet. This will also assist in keeping below our monthly allowed internet usage. Unlike Apple, we Alaskans don't have unlimited bandwidth and can't keep 110% of our personal files and media online. A proxy server will assist in preventing over utilization of Apple's persistent synching.
Either that, Or I'll be jailbreaking my AppleTv so I can use it the way I need to.

Unable to make SSL connection from Proxy Server to Directory Server

I have recently installed Directory Proxy Server 5.2 Patch 3 on Solaris 9 server. Backend directories are Sun Directory Server 5.2sp3 using Thawte signed certificates.
I can't get the Proxy Server to make a successful SSL connection to the Directory Servers. The proxy server can make the non-ssl connection without problem. When the Proxy Server attempts the SSL connection it gives SEC_ERROR_UNTRUSTED_ISSUER error. The SSL certificates on the Directory Servers are signed by Thawte and have just recently been updated. The certificate for the Proxy Server is also signed by Thawte. The CA certificate is loaded in both the Proxy Server and the Directory Server.
I also have an iPlanet Directory Access Router (iDAR) 5.0 Server that is our current production server that serves these same directories and I haven't had a problem with SSL connection with it. So, the certificates are good.

ODSEE 11g - DPS Directory proxy server suddenly increase load average

Hi all
Recently upgraded from directory server 5.2 to ODSEE 11g, one directory proxy configure to one master directory server and one consumer directory server.
all the three instances are in the same sparc t3 machine.
Directory proxy server alerts server load average on the machine is above 6.00 normally it is 0.66. I'm not sure what is causing the sudden burst in the load ? the traffic is normal there is no abnormal requests coming to the server. proxy performance degrades over the span of 24 hours ....and Once i restart the proxy services (dpsadm restart) all load averages comes to normal and directory proxy runs normal for the next two - three weeks. The same cycle continues ...I'm not sure what was causing the sudden load increase.
I increased the JVM heap size from 1GB to 2 GB still continue to have the problem ..did anyone else experience similar problem. How did you fix it....

server load I'm referring to "prstat command" - server load average suddenly shoot up from 0.66 to 6.00 ie) the CPU usage. Alert is from our server monitoring tool not related to directory proxy.
Clients report connections time out (etime goes from etime=0 ..2..4.....) over 24 hours i can see the etime increases and eventually the proxy server get hung and non responsive. Once I restart all the performance back to normal at-least for another two weeks.
I suspect there might be a memory leak or JVM Garbage collection issue -- any expert input how to figure this out will help.

How to setup CSS as reverse proxy server without cache server

Hi, question regarding CSS capabilities.
Is there a way to setup CSS (11000 series or 11500) to act as a reverse proxy server without caching server in place? Or is it possible for CSS to cache contents on its own?
And what is disk space on CSS used for?

Tuning directory proxy server parameters

I need help to tune following parameters of Directory proxy server 5.2patch4.
simultaneous operations per connection
Total operations per connection
Simultaneous connections to this group
simultaneous connections per ip address.
Before tuning these parameters, I wanted to know how can I find current usage of above parameters from directory server/directory proxy server. Right now there is no value set for these parameters.
Is there any tool/command line utility or any other way to find current usage of these parameters?

How do I know the baseline to set these parameters? What tool/utility can I use on Proxy server/Directory server in order to find the baseline for these parameters.
To make it more clear, how can I find from proxy server/DS server that how many currently simultaneous operations per connection are going on..
how many total operations per connection are running..
how many simultaneous connections to this group are running.
how may simutaneous connections per ip address are running.

FTP_connect with a proxy server

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to an external ftp-server via a proxy FTP-server using function ftp_connect.
I'm using the gateway parameters to connect to the proxy, but the function always returns an error saying that the user doesn't have access to the external FTP-server. I know the users and passwords are correct. Is it the correct way to use the gateway parameters? What is the account parameter for?

I'm trying to access an FTP Server via a proxy server as well - but it doesn't seem to work.
I can connect to that FTP Server via the same proxy with FileZialla so I know the users and PWDs are working.
How can I provide the proxy information (host, user and PWD) within the RFC connection - or what do you mean by destination?

In my coding I scrambled both PWDs with FM 'HTTP_SCRAMBLE' using key '26101957'.
I tried as well setting the parameter user to (using the scrambeld PWDs) but this gives the same resulst.

Successfully Installing & Activating CS6 (not Creative Cloud) behind an Authentication Proxy server

If you are like me and work in a fairly secure office where all Internet access is routed through an authenticate proxy server (you have to use an ID and password to get to the Internet) you might have noticed that installing CS6 products can be difficult.
The installer told me to go to http://www.adobe.com/go/getactivated for an offline activation.
It is not practical to "Disable the firewall" or"Disable the proxy" as most of us worker bees have neither the authority or ability to do such a thing.
So back to that last bit: "Disable the proxy server." Well I could not do that, but I could disable my PC's ability to connect to the proxy and therefore make it seem like I had no Internet whatsoever. And lo and behold all the right prompts appeared and offline activation sailed along smoothly!
This is a little long, but I wanted to include lots of screen shots so you'll know what to expect.
Here's how I did it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop (or select Tools > Internet Options in IE)
2. Click Properties.
3. Select the Connections card.
4. Click LAN Settings.
5. Uncheck any boxes (you might want to write down what was in the boxes or grab a screen shot as you'll have to put this back to how you found it later to restore your Internet access). Click OK and OK again. You've now shut off IE's ability to hit your proxy server and therefore the Internet.
6. Click Install I have a serial number
7. Accept the license agreement.
8. Enter your license key.
9. Click Next. At this point the installer will attempt to validate your license, but since you haven't got Internet access, it will give you an error. This is where the process broke down on me, when the installer could detect the Internet but not navigate my proxy.
10. But, now beacuse you do not have Internet Access, you'll get this error. Click Connect Later.
11. Select your customizations (if any) and click Install.
12. When installation is complete, click Launch Now.
13. You'll get an error since you don't have Internet, click "Having Trouble Connecting to the internet?"
14. Click Offline Activation.
15. Click Generate Request Code.
16. Go to http://www.adobe.com/go/getactivated, sign in, put in your request code and serial number and generate the response code.*
17. Enter the response code.
18. Click Activate.
19. Click Launch when you get the Offline Activation Complete dialog.
* if you are installing more than one product, generate the response codes for each at the same time. I ran into an issue where once I created a response code, no other response codes I created for subsequent installs were accepted. I had to wait 24 hours for a newly generated code to work.

Just want to point out--after many hours of attempting to activate CS6 software (stumping two Adobe techs in the process)--that there is one important bit of information left out of the directions given above (and it's not in the video either):
These instructions work only if you are starting the installation from scratch. If you (mistakenly) think that your inability to connect to Adobe's activation server is temporary and go ahead and install the software, you will not be able to get back to the screen to generate a request code (which you need to be able to activate the application). This is in spite of Adobe's assurance to the contrary that if you don't activate during installation, you can do it later when the application starts. If you try to activate later, you are taken to an online screen that asks for the "request code"--but you have not been given an opportunity to get that request code.
The only solution I could find: I had to uninstall Photoshop CS6, then unplug my internet connection, then reinstall the software, watching carefully for the screen that provides the button to generate a request code. If Adobe is going to require the activation/validation procedure, then it really needs to make it work and correct the error in the software, namely, the failure to provide for offline activation once the software has been installed.

How to configure SharePoint HNSC with a reverse proxy server so that HNSC Share Point URLs are not exposed to end users.

In normal path based site collections/web applications, reverse proxy configuration can be done using alternate access mappings with Public URL = "proxy URL", internal = "HNSC Share Point URL" so that share point sends response back
to Public URL = "proxy URL".
In Host Named Site Collections, alternate access mappings are not supported. Each HNSC is designed to have only one URL in each zone. Zone is one of the five zones(Default,Intranet,Internet,Custom,Extranet) with each of which only one alternate
URL is associated. This is what we are able to get using power shell command "Set-SPSiteUrl", but this will not help us to get the response back to proxy URL after a request sent to share point because we could not find any mechanism in share
point HNSC to respond to a different URL(proxy URL). Consequently, Share Point URLs are exposed to external users.
Below share point article in MSDN blog is symmetrical to what we are observing with Share Point 2013 and Proxy Server. It mentions that internal HNSC URLs can’t be hidden using any proxy server. If hiding the internal Share Point URLS is a requirement,
it suggests to use a web application instead of host named site collections.
Though I’m also observing the same behavior with Share Point 2013 HNSC, Could you please confirm my understanding is correct.

You are right that only one URL is allowed for each zone of the host-name site collections in both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
It is by design that each host-name site collection only support one URL for each zone.
The article below is about RTM version of SharePoint, and it is the same for SharePoint 2013 with the latest CU.

So to make the URL of HNSC not exposed to external users is not supported, you need to use path-based sites instead.

Mobile me/icloud find my iphone through a proxy server?

Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so if it's not please let me know where is best.
I have a fleet of 600 ipads who are forced to run through a proxy server via a 3g connection. Up untill last week I could trace all these iPads via mobile me or icloud and use the find my iPhone feature. In this last week I seem to have lost this ability. All iPads are coming up with "no location". Mixture of iOS5 and variations of iOS4
If I turn off the proxy on the iPad I can trace the iPad.
me.com, apple.com amd icloud.com are all allowed through the proxy.
I cannot see anoy other banned traffic with a web address I can unblock.
I really just need to know what else I need to allow out via the proxy to get this working again? I'm guessing something has changed in Apple world as the proxy hasn't changed.

Hi - did you have any luck with this? I have a similar problem, but only on a private APN through our proxy. I've managed to allow all the URLs to get the iCloud account registered for each device via the APN/proxy, but they do not appear on my icloud.com device view. If I remove the APN, therefore our network proxy is not used, it works fine.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Firewall/Proxy Server Issue

I'm testing a new Flex/CF app. From my location it runs well
on the production server. But from another location that is behind
a Symantec firewall/proxy server, it runs unusably slowly. I'm
using Flex remote object calls (Flash remoting) to communicate with
CF. I don't know if the problem is related to that or simply
something to do with Flash Player. Has anyone experienced this
problem? I'm not a network administrator and am not familiar with
Symantec firewalls so I'm not sure what to ask their network admin
to try. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you add a new library in the project to include weblogic.jar from the WebLogic 6.1?
What kind of a client is it?
You can also try using the setting in the menu
Tools | Preferences | Web Browser/Proxy
to enable disable the proxy.
