Pstack from core file with no usable info

One of our applications is coring and the customer is sending a pstack from the core file that looks like:
core 'core' of 16879: /path/to/executable
----------------------------- lwp# 1 --------------
ffffffff7a50711c ???????? (6, 0, ffffffff7dfffff90, 0, 0, 0)
---------------------------- lwp# 2 --------------------------------------
** zombie (exited, not detached, not yet joined) **
------------------------------ lwp# 4 -----------------------------------
ffffffff620db950 ???????? (0, 0, 0, 0, ffffffff70f01ac0, ffffffff6224a240)
----------------------------- lwp# 11 ------------------------------------------
ffffffff620d7410 ???????? (ffffffff63aec0a0, ffffffff6caec080, ffffffff5b1fbba0, 4, 16df10, ffffffff6eb0be00)
The customer says they are generating the pstack from the core on the same computer and OS it was generated on.
Could this be an indication of a corrupted stack?
An incomplete core file?
Can mdb be used to get additional info from the core?
What else can I have the customer do with the core file so they can provide more information?
I cannot get access to the actual core file.
The core is generated from a system running Solaris 10, Studio 11 C++ code.
David.

There is a utility on Solaris, coreadm(9), which provides tremenduous flexibility in controlling
how much stuff gets put into a corefile. Could it be that the customer site has used coreadm
to really throttle down what's in the corefile?

  • Debugging core file with dbx

    I am trying to debug a core file with dbx. My first problem was a core mismatch. I copied the libraries from production to a directory in my development environment, set core_lo_pathmap to on, and used the pathmap command to get the files from the new location. The files I copied include ld.so and ld.so.1 - based on an article I read. I am not getting the core mismatch anymore but this is the result I am getting now:
    Reading libdec.so
    Reading libhpsnls.so
    Reading libc_psr.so.1
    Reading libthread.so.1
    Reading nss_files.so.1
    Reading GMOG1.dll
    Reading vogn2405.dll
    Reading libiiapi.1.so
    detected a multithreaded program
    t@1 (l@1) terminated by signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
    0xff311c5c: fflushu_iops+0x004c: ldub [%i4 + 0xc], %o0
    I am unsure of the next step and any advice would be appreciated.

    If all you're looking for is a stack trace, run pstack on the core file on the
    production system where the core was created.

  • Load data from a file with multiple record types to a single table-sqlldr

    We are using two datastores which refer to the same file. The file has 2 types of records header and detail.
    h011234tyre
    d01rey5679jkj5679
    h011235tyrr
    d01rel5678jul5688
    d01reh5698jll5638
    Can someone help in loading these lines from one file with only two data stores(not 2 separate files) using File to Oracle(SQLLDR) Knowledge Module.

    Hi,
    Unfortunately the IKM SQLDR doesn't have the "when" condition to be wrote at ctl file.
    If you wish a simple solution, just add an option (drop me a email if you want a LKM with this)
    The point is:
    With a single option, you will control the when ctl clause and, for instance, can define:
    1) create 2 datastores (1 for each file)
    2) the first position will be a column at each datastore
    3) write the when condition to this first column at the LKM in the interface.
    Does it help you?

  • Importing From Flat File with Dynamic Columns

    HI
    I am using ssis 2008,i have folder in which I have Four(4) “.txt” files each file will have 2 columns(ID, NAME). I loaded 4
    files in one destination, but today I receive one more “.txt” file here we have 3 columns (ID, NAME, JOB) how can I get a message new column will receive in source. And how can I create in extra column in my destination table dynamically …please help me

    Hi Sasidhar,
    You need a Script Task to read the names and number of columns in the first row of the flat file each time and store it in a variable, then create a staging table dynamically based on this variable and modify the destination table definition if one ore more
    new columns need to be added, and then use the staging table to load the destination table. I am afraid there is no available working script for your scenario, and you need some .NET coding experience to achieve your goal. Here is an example you can refer

  • How to create PDF from text file with specific layout?

    I wanted to create the pdf from text file in specific layout - Landscape orientation and JIS B3 Page size while at Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    In past, I could do a right click on a text file (desktop area) and select print to print out the document into .pdf BUT only if I set the Adobe PDF to Landscape and JIS B3 Page size BEFORE.  And I could only do 15 text documents at once.
    I wanted to see if I could do the create the pdf from text file with specific layout in Adobe Acrobat without having to go to Control Panel to preset the Adobe PDF to specific layout at every time.   I would have to set Adobe PDF back to normal layout after I'm done with these pdf print outs.  I do lots of pdfs in normal layout.  Sometimes I would forget to do that.
    So, How do I do that?

    No such luck.  It would output the contents in letter size even in JIS B3 Page layout at MS word.
    Is there a script or action where I could set the orientation and page size before creating PDF on these text files?

  • How to get string (specified by line and column) from txt file with labview

    Hi everyone
    How to get string (specified by line and column) from txt file with labview
    thx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    As far as I know, a text file has no columns.  Please be more specific.  Do you mean something like the 5th word on line 4, where words are separated by a space, and lines are separated by a newline character?  You could the Read from Spreadsheet String function and set the delimiter to a space.  This will produce a 2D array of strings.  Then use index array and give the line number and column number.

    Hi all
    Hope to get some help with Elements Organizer.
    I have 12-15 years of digital photos that I now want to import into my newly aquirede Adobe Elements Organizer / Photoshop. Since my Nikon names the files with continous numbers from 0001 to 9999 I have multiple files with the same name although they are not alike at all. My previous software had no problems with that since I keep the photos in separate file folders based on import date. I generally import photos after each event and so name the folder with the date and some event info (e.g. 2014.12.24 - Christmas at grandparents).
    That is a common situation, I have the same limitation for files not going over 9999 on my Canons...
    Now - when I import my photos into Elements Organizer I get a lot of error messages with "same name exist .....) Hmmmmmmm
    Please sate the exact wording of the error message, I have never seen a message stating 'same name exist...' or equivalent; only messages about files already in the catalog. Files already in the catalog mean that some files have the same 'date taken' and file size in Kb.
    Any suggestions. I'm using a mac and tried to rename files based on date taken. The mac can do that but it takes ages to go into each folder and run the renaming script there.
    I also use a similar folder creation scheme (such a date naming is the default for the downloader). That way I never get a message about duplicates for the same file names.
    However - I can't be the first or only person with this problem so I figure that some workaround must be known out there. Maybe the import action can recognize date taken or - well. Thank you very much in advance if you can help me out here.
    You can alsways set the downloader to rename the imported files with a unique new name, there are many options in the 'advanced' dialog of the downloader. I don't know about Macs, but I don't thing there is a difference.

    How do I get information on these questions?

    -- prasad

    which version of dbx are you using?
    A message about "size 0" can sometimes mean that
    your core file was truncated by a core limit that is set
    too low. That can cause missing information.
    1. Why is where on thread 5 not reporting the SEGV?I don't know. This seems like a bug, but not a serious one.
    You know there is a seg fault from the "threads" command.
    2. Why is thread 1 in the exit handle when some threads have not yet exited?The program can call exit() whenever it wants to. At that
    point the cleanup handlers will be called. If you want the
    system to wait for all threads to exit, then call thr_exit() instead
    of exit().
    3. Why is thread 1 not showing any stack above the exit call?I don't know the answer. Sometimes stack trace information
    in the process is a little but unreliable. It's only 100% reliable if you
    compile with -g and do not use the optimizer. Even in those cases,
    it is 99% reliable.

  • How to import data from CSV file with columns separated by semicolon?

    I migrate database from MS SQL 2008 to ORACLE 11g
    I export data to CSV file from MS SQL
    then I try to import it to Oracle
    several tables goes fine using Import data option in the SQL Developer
    Standard CSV files with data separated by comma were imported.
    chars, date (with format string), and integer data are imported via import wizard without problems
    the problems were when I try to import table with noninteger numbers with modal part separated by comma not by dot
    comma is the standard separator for columns in CSV file
    so I must change the standard separator to semicolon
    then the import wizard have problem to correct recognize the columns data because it use only standard CSV comma separator :-/
    In SQL Developer 1.5.3 Tools -> Preferences -> Migration -> Data Move Options
    I change "End of Column Delimiter" to ; but it doens't work
    Is this possible to change the standard column separator for import data wizzard in SQL Developer 1.5.3?
    Or maybe someone know how to import data in SQL Developer 1.5.3 from CSV when CSV colunn separator is set to semicolon?

    A new preference has been added to customize the import delimiter in main code line. This should be available as part of future release.

  • PDF from PostScript file with hyperlinks/bookmarks

    Is there a way to include hyperlinks and bookmarks when printing to Postscript file.
    Direct Export to PDF creates a huge file size so I need to go the PostScript/Distiller route.

    Would it not be possible to use the famous Acrobat Replace Pages featurebug/bugfeature here? (Hyperlinks on, and bookmarks to pages do not get replaced when you replace those.)
    Something like:
    1. Export to PDF.
    2. Print and Distill.
    3. Replace all pages in the document from step 1 with those from step 2.
    4. Done.

    ...If that's all you want (and since a valid xml file has to start with at least <?xml version="1.0"?> so XML is irrelevant to this discussion) then this will generate the output you specify from the imput you provided:import java.io.*;
    import java.util.StringTokenizer;
    public class SimpleAngleBracketEliminator {
      public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception {
        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(args[0]));
        String line;
        while ((line=in.readLine())!=null) {
          StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(line, "<>");
          while (st.hasMoreTokens()) {
            st.nextToken();
            if (st.hasMoreTokens()) {
              System.out.print(st.nextToken().trim());
          System.out.println();
    }But if you actually want the benefits of real XML, then use a real XML parser.

  • How to get InputStream from a file with absolute path?

    Hi, guys:

    Don't use resource as stream if you have an absolute path, use FileInputStream.

    Is there a way to specify multiple delimitors in the read from spreadsheet file vi? I have a file that i need to read in that contains both space and comma delimitors and would like to read that data into an array using both delimitors (or not and). Below is the data I'm trying to read.

        END
    I'm looking to just read in the data adjust the hex values and then save the data in the exact form which I read it in. If read from spreadsheet file can not recognize multiple delimiters that is all I need to know. I do not want to spend time reading it in using a single delimitor and doing a bunch of string manipulation. I'm also working with LabView 8.5 if that makes a difference.

    You should use "scan string for tokens", and wire an array of delimiters.
    One nice behavior is the fact that consecutive delimiters are contracted into one (by default), so e.g. if your delimiters is an array containing a space and a comma, a sequence of three spaces and a comma would still count as one delimiter.
    For some ideas, have a look at my old example here:
