Publish a Captivate course with HTML5 and Scorm

This is the scenario.  We have a Captivate 7 module.  One of the slides will have an HTML5 animation on it.  The module also has quiz questions.  We have used Adobe Captivate 7 App Packager to include the HTML5 animation and publish the course.  When we upload the course to our LMS (LearnShare), nothing shows up.  If we upload the HTML5 published course without any Scorm settings, it works.  But we obviously need the Scorm settings on.  Can't figure out how to package this thing to have it include the animation and the Scorm settings and work on the LMS.

You can score any interactions or question slides you want in
Captivate.
If your LMS supports it, you can even have Captivate submit
the user's answers to each scored interaction/question. This is
done through the "Submit interactions and the score" option in the
Quiz preferences, although there seems to be a hard limit to the
amount of data that can be sent to an LMS so you wouldn't want to
submit interactions for a file with a large number of
interactions/questions.
The quickest way to set up all your scoring parameters is to
press F9, which opens the Advanced Interaction dialog that lets you
specify the scoring of each item in your project.
From there, you just need to figure out which combination of
settings in the the Quiz preferences gets the SCORM data to your
LMS in a format that your LMS expects or can handle.

  • Still struggling with Captivate 6, Oracle LMS and SCORM 2004

Still can't get this course tracking with scores.  Herewith the screen shot.  Does anyone know if the settings I have chosen for the quiz are correct.  When I load the published course into the lms and test it, it shows "not attempted" prior to opening it and it gives the final score on the last quiz slide.  There is a slide after the last quiz slide.  It still seems not to transfer the scores to the lms.  I recently found out that we have Scorm 2004 version 4, so I changed the configuration setting as it was defaulted to version 3, but that still hasn't helped with the scores.  Under the start and end settings, I have chosen close project for the end.   I have been through a week of torture with this course!  Please can anyone assist as I'm not sure what to do anymore!

Oh no.  Now I'm panicking!  I will try it.  Thanks

This sounds like you have some major issue in this course project file.
Breaking it up into smaller files might not fix your issue.
I suggest you create a new blank CPTX project file, add one true/false quiz question, set it to report to LMS with the settings you have above, publish as a single SCO package zip file, and upload to both your LMS and SCORM cloud.
If this file doesn't even work, your installation of Captivate would have to be suspect and nothing you do in course module is going to fix that until you work out what the problem is.  If this very simple single-SCO lesson plays OK and reports successfully to the LMS, then we need to figure out what is lacking in your current file.
It could be that your current file has somehow become corrupted.  See the suggestions here for how to debug general corruption issues:

  • Who has successfully created a SCORM compliant captivate course with AS3?

    Hi Everyone,
I would really like to know your experiences with publishing courses using the AS3 settings...
Have your courses successfully been published and used on an LMS?
Is the tracking working for you?
If yes, what settings do you use? (besides the AS3 and flashplayer 9 or 10)
How did you start the file, e.g. using a project or design template, or from scratch?
You would help me a great deal by sharing your experience with this!
    Thanks a lot!
    Greetings from the Bahamas
    Annemarie

I am having a similar issue. I took the update earlier this week and it seemed to be working until a user fails the quiz and exits the course. When they return to the course it sticks on the grey loading screen - infinitely.
Any suggestions would be most helpful!

  • How do I publish a captivate 8 project as a scorm object

I am using Captivate 8 and previously used Captivate 7. It was a simple case to publish projects as SCORM objects but now I can't seem to do the same with the latest version!

I thought it was the same?

  • HTML5 and IE

Ok been playing around with HTML5 and so far I like it. Of course I havent delved into the more advanced tags new to verison5 yet. My question though is this. With my limited understanding and reading on the new standards of how browsers support, or dont support, html5 I was under the impression that all current versions of IE supported even the basics of the new html5 standards.
For a perfect example. In creating a new html5 basic layout using the header, footer, article, and nav tags, I'm still forced to do some hacks for IE to style these tags, since they are not defined as a class or id name I assume.
Personally I hate writing hacks for IE and avoid them like the plague! lol Will this be the norm from now on? Will IE9 change all that? How long, if IE8 doesnt support these tags, will we be forced to write hacks for this browser.

    Hi
The very fact that the still current version of IE(8) doesn't support
the html5 page division names is somewhat confusing to me. I thought
that the whole internet buzz over the new html and how all these browser
companies sent delegates to be part of this team of coders and
developers in order to develope the best most cross browser compliant
    html standard to date.
Believe it or not IE5 and IE6 where the most compliant browsers for html and css when they where released, and it was only when the css specs for css2.1 where candidate recommendations and supported by Safari and Mozilla, (I am talking about V1 of these browsers, released 2-3 years after IE6) that they became noticeably 'broken'.
You only need to read a few of the comments posted in replies on the DW forums relating to using the modules/rules of css3 that are candidate recommendations in order to realize how slow and reluctant many designers/developers are to use anything that is not in general use, (progressive enhancements are not regarded by many as the norm). If many designers/developers will not use the features then why expect clients or browser developers to worry about support and more importantly, if users do not see a better experience in more modern/compliant browsers then why should they update/upgrade?
(for the last point above, join in the discussions in the DW general section and offer support for html5 and css3 usage, as I am getting tired of being 'shot down')
As for Microsoft and IE8, they where not a part of the 'group' that developed html5 as this was not done by the W3C, (they have no such excuse for css3 however). But when you remember that Adobe did not want to support html5/css3 in CS5, (it was not in the initial release) and had to release it as an extension after much criticism from both users, (myself included) and the press, then IE8 not supporting these features is not surprising as it was released a year before CS5.
IE9 does support html5 and some of css3, (though not enough) and the IE developers decided to do so before Adobe decided to support them in Dreamweaver.

  • Possible Bug with Drag-and-Drop Being Published via HTML5 - Getting "Undefined" Error When Dragging Object

    Hello,
I came up with a way to use drag-and-drop interactions that will take advantage of file input so that I may create a drag-and-drop interaction that uses one draggable object over and over allowing multiple scoring/tracking possibilities.  Example use...is having the draggable object be dynamic in that it randomly changes its text so that a learner can drag a term it's possible classification.........thus allowing the possibility of having many terms easily loaded without having to redo a drag-and-drop interaction for each needed terms/classifications updates/changes.
My Issue: When using a variable to represent the text for a draggable Smart Shape object, I'm getting the error message "undefined" when, clicking/pressing on the object, as well as during the drag of the object. This issue occurs when publishing the project in an HTML5 format.  Flash interestingly enough seems to work perfect...but we are not interested in publishing via Flash any longer.
To better help you explore this error message, I've set up a test project so that you can see when and how the "undefined" message shows up during a drag-and-drop interaction.  I've also included the Captivate 8 project file used to make the exploration project I'm sharing in this post.
Link to Captivate project I created for you all to explore "undefined" error message": http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug/
Link to this Captivate 8 Project file: http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug.cptx
It's pretty interesting how things react in this demo, please try the following actions to see some interesting happenings:
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target.
Drag Black Hello square to Drag target and click undo or reset - watch the undefined message come up on the Yellow (or variable drag box).
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target and then use the undo or reset.
Move both draggable boxes to the drag target and use the undo and reset buttons...
Anyhow, I know you all are sharp and will run the demo through its paces.
I'd really be very honored if anyone help me figure out how I could (when publishing out to HTML5) no longer have the "undefined" error message show up when using drag-and-drop with a variable for shape text. This technique has been well received at the college I work at...and I have many future project requests for using such an idea on a variety of similar interactions. I'd love see a solution or see if this might be a bug Adobe may be able to fix!
I tried to find a solution to the issue documented here for quite some time, but I was not able to find anyone with this problem much less attempting the idea I'm sharing in the help request -  save the darn "undefined" message that comes up!
Many thanks in advance for any help and/or direction that you all may be able to provide,
    Paul

    Hello,
I just wanted to supply a minor update related to my drag-and-drop question/issue stated above:
I did another test using Captivate 7, and found that the undefined error (publishing as HTML5) does not appear and the variable data remains visible - except the variable data turns very small and does not honor any font size related settings.
I did go ahead and submit this to Adobe as a possible bug today.
Thanks again for any help related to this issue.  If the issued documented above is solved, it will allow many amazing things to be done using Captivate's drag-and-drop for both regular type projects as well as interaction development for iBooks!
Matter of fact if this issue gets fixed, I'll publish a Blog entry (or video) on way's I've used Captivate's drag-and-drop to create dynamic learning activities for Higher Ed. and for use in iBooks.

  • Captivate Scorm 1.2 with Moodle and max. apptempts

    Dear all,
I am the person who pushed Captivate in our company and now everyone is looking at me because its not doing as we are used by Articulate.
    The setting:
Moodle allows three tries to see if someone passed or failed a lesson.
After the third try the user can redo the course in Articulate, but all questions are greyed and no new try is reported back to Moodle.
That way the user stays always with three tries and is displayed as in review mode in Moodle.
    My problem:
Captivate is set to 3 tries and reports back to Moodle.
In Moodle the user has three tries and after these three tries the user is shown passed or failed.
If the user starts the test a forth time (Moodle shows review mode) captivate will 'crash'.
If started a fifth time, captivate will work and report back.
So if you try it a fifth time and pass, Moodle shows passed.
Where is my logical error. What setting did I set wrong?
Can Captivate not do the same as Articulate?
Can Captivate receive a variable to disable the questions (Could be done via Widget)?
    Any ideas?
    Best TD

You mention that you have the quiz inside Captivate set to three tries as well as Moodle giving the user three tries.  I make that a total possible 9 attempts at the same quiz.  If the idea is to only give the person three opportunities to pass a test then you should set Captivate to only one attempt each time launched and let Moodle handle the number of attempts.  Or give Captivate 3 attempts and 1 in Moodle.  Either way, the limit should be three, if that's what you're after.
However, that won't change the bigger issue that Captivate is crashing for some reason and Moodle doesn't prevent a fourth or fifth scoring attempt.  It appears to me like when Captivate crashes, it's because something has happened in Moodle, because theoretically Moodle shouldn't be allowing any fourth or fifth scoring attempt.  So I wouldn't immediately be blaming Captivate for the issue here.
By definition, a SCORM doesn't actually know how many times it gets loaded because it doesn't store any data after the session is closed. The SCORM standard states that the SCO should not require anything outside itself to function. It's the LMS's job to record data about the user interaction with the SCORM.  So if the LMS (Moodle in your case) allows the user to open the same SCORM after they've exceeded the maximum permissible number of attempts, then the LMS is supposed to disable further scoring capability somehow, either by only allowing the course to open in Review Mode (which allows the user to do the quiz but not get any credit for it recorded) or by not allowing the user to open the course modules at all, usually giving them a message that says so.
I think your problem is somewhere in Moodle, not Captivate, and you may need to find out why Moodle is still recording scoring attempts AFTER the maximum number permitted.  This sounds like a Moodle bug to me and it might also explain why Captivate is crashing.  (If by crashing you mean that the Captivate lesson seems to go unresponsive, this is most likely because it's SCORM API is waiting in vain for the proper response to come back from Moodle.)
I'm not familiar with how Articulate interacts with LMSs, so I'll have to take your word for the fact that it can read the fact that the LMS has exceeded permissible attempts and disable the quiz components.  That sounds like quite a cool feature, but Captivate doesn't have it (that I'm aware of).  I know of no widget that will do it for you either, though in theory it could be developed.

  • Exit button not working Captivate 7 output to HTML5 and SWF

I have several courses developed in Cp 6.5 that do not have this issue and are currently running on Taleo LMS.
I've built a test course with 6 (mostly blank) slides, including two quiz questions. On the final slide I have placed a Finish Course button with On Success: Exit action. The project end options are set to close project and I've included an On Exit: Exit action on the final slide. The Finish Course button successfully closes the browser window in Preview in Browser (IE9) and Preview HTML5 output modes.
I then published the course to both HTML5 and SWF output formats with scalable HTML selected. Once I uploaded the course to the LMS and tested it, the Finish Course button does not close the browser window. I've tested in IE9, Firefox, and iPad, and it doesn't work on any of these. I've also tried including the built in exit button on the playbar, and it doesn't close the window either. At the final slide, after clicking the Finish Course button, the slide fades to white and then stops.
The LMS reports that the course is complete; I thought maybe it was an issue with the settings in the LMS course, however I have several other courses that were developed in Cp 6.5, published to the same LMS with the same "Exit" button on the final slide, and I have mirrored every course setting that has worked in the past.
Any suggestions as to what could be keeping the window from closing?
    Thanks,
    PV

Why does there need to be a button used now when in CP 6 and 6.5 it worked seamlessly? Will this be fixed by Adobe and when?

  • Can you change flash player window size for a published Captivate course?

I am working on publishing a course with a FMR and, during testing, a lot of scrolling was required so I wanted to resize the window.  Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it? Similar to Flash where you can publish to dimension %???

you can adjust the movie size in the html, with varying levels of success based on how much you scale.
edit the swf associated .htm file with a text editor and look for this line:  var so = new SWFObject("project_name.swf", "Captivate", "641", "516", "10", "#CCCCCC");  In this case the 641 and 516 are the pixel dimensions.  you can also change it to a %
I've never done it with FMR so I won't attest to how well it'll work.

  • Publishing as HTML5 and SWF loses scaling

    Good day,
I am having trouble with publishing my Captivate 6 projects to use both the SWF and HTML5. When I just post it as a HTML5, the scaling works fine. However, when I use the multiscreen.html, the HTML5 loses the scaling when it opens on the iPad. Everything else works as it should (correct file type chosen for device, etc.), but the scaling in the HTML5 file fails.
    Any ideas?
I am posting these files to an LMS if that matters. Otherwise - Cap 6, Windows 7/iPad version 6.0.1.
    Thanks!
    Jenn

Anybody? Our new LMS went live today and I still haven't found a solution for this.

  • Publishing in Captivate 3, SCORM 1.2, no manifest file...

I’m using Captivate 3, publishing to FLASH/SWF with SCORM 1.2 enabled. I’m only getting a zip with two swf files and nothing else.
I’ve selected Quiz Results only, Score to LMS as Percent, Report Pass/Fail with Reporting level as Interactions and score.
I’ve required Answer all – the user must answer every question to continue
Selected Allow user to review quiz, show score at end of quiz and show progress
In LMS Customization settings, nothing is selected.
When I access Advanced Interaction there are nothing but blank spaces in the Track Score column for the Quiz slides.
I believe this is why when I publish I’m not getting a manifest file, but I have run out of ideas.

    On your Quiz Settings select:
    Status Representation
    Incomplete-->Complete
    Success/Completion Criteria
    Report slides viewed = 100%
    Uncheck Quiz
    Uncheck Data to Report/Interation Data
Click the Advanced button and select "Set extit to normal after completion".

  • Difference between published Captivate 5.5 swf and Captivate 7 swf?

I have a custom SCORM framework built in Flash that handles all of the calls to an LMS, and I simply insert published SWFs from Captivate; everything has been working great for a few years now.  The problem I am experiencing now is that content that I have published from Captivate 5.5 shows up just fine, but I upgraded to Captivate 7 and now the SWF files hang during loading, or simply show a black screen.   My client uses SumTotal LMS, so I first thought it might be an issue with the LMS, but this is the case in every single LMS I have tested in, so it is definitely some anomaly in the different versions of the published files.
So I guess I am trying to figure out what is different between the two SWFs published in different versions?

I don't think so that it is the soulotion for this problem , but you in publish setting/ start and end part (something like this, I don't remember the name completely ) /  you can turn off the preloader and fade in at start checkbox and turn on the autoplay.
this can solve the problem temporary till adobe find better way for it .

  • Adobe Connect 9 Training Course Video gets resized after being published from Captivate 6

    Hello!
I have an FLV that I have published to Adobe Connect 9 from Adobe Captivate 6.
I have set the size of the video to the dimensions that best display the FLV with player controls.
However, when I publish to Adobe Connect 9, the video is resized to a smaller size and looks heavily pixelated.
Is there a way to keep the dimensions and quality without Adobe Connect 9 resizing it?
Here are the settings in Captivate 6:
Here is the first screen for the preferences:
Here is the second screen in Preferences:
Here is what it looks like when viewed from Captivate 6 in a web browser:
Here is what it looks like after it has been published and uploaded into the training in Adobe Acrobat 9:
If you notice in the image above the video is smaller and the CMS logo is very pixelated due to Adobe Connect 9 resizing it.
I am not sure how to keep the dimensions that I have from Captivate 6 and have it reflect after it has been published to Adobe Connect 9.
And is there more functionality that I am not able to access since I am using a 30-Day trial.
Thanks for taking the time to read and assist!
    Angelo

You are correct that this is a known issue.  There was a fundamental change to the way objects are added to the timeline that came in with Cp6.  The result is that objects such as your SWF animations are only loaded at the time they are added to the timeline, and this causes the slide flickering you witness.  There's not really a lot you can do to get rid of it other than rebuilding all of your animations to be a single animation that once loaded will continue unabated until finished.
