Purchased song iphone how to get on IMac Itunes?

I just purchased a song on my iphone in itunes. How do I get this on my IMac in Itunes? I hooked it up and synced but it did not work. I also checked for new available downloads in teh store and there was nothing any help would be great!

"Syncing Purchased Content
iTunes automatically syncs everything you’ve downloaded or purchased on iPhone to
your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. This lets you access
the downloads on your computer and provides a backup if you delete purchased
content from iPhone.
Purchased content is synced to the “Purchased on <name of your iPhone>” playlist.
iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. iTunes also copies your purchases to the
Purchased playlist that iTunes uses for purchases you make on your computer, if that
playlist exists and is set to sync with iPhone.
Downloaded podcasts are synced to the Podcast list in your iTunes library. "

When I purchase ITunes music, and it is a song from a Greatest Hits album, the Year of the song shows the year the CD was released and not the year the song was released (i.e. a song may be from 1986, but the Greatest Hits album was released in 1999, so my songs in ITunes show 1999). So, I go into each of those songs and change it to the year that I want to be displayed. As long as I don't exit out of ITunes, it will show the year that I changed it to (i.e. the 1986 year in this case). But if I exit out of ITunes and then return to ITunes, the year reverts back to 1999. The same happens if I change the genre of a song from, say 'Pop' to 'Alternative', it will revert back the next time I log in.
Oddly enough, as soon as I right-click on that song to change it back, the year/genre that I had entered returns.
How can I make it so my changes are permanently displayed as I want them? This is pretty annoying when I try to find a song on my Ipod under a certain genre, but it doesn't appear in that genre because the incorrect information gets synched to the Ipod.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:

Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match). If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID. So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account. Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

Depending on which country that you are in then you might be able to re-download your purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . Otherwise, have you not got a backup of your purchases and content on, for example, an external drive ?

Exactly. The transfer job starts, collects the information on new purchases ans finishes without any error messages. New files are shown in itunes with the 'sync' icon on the left and are greyed out ... it is the same with puchases (movies and tv shows only!) on my iphone 4 and ipad2.

That is correct if there is a similar application made for the computer. It will not be sold through iTunes. Either you get it from the developer's website or look for it in the App Store or look for it at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads .

I literally just figured out how to fix this a second ago, and believe me I thought I was hopeless, but it's relatively simple and I really hope it works for you.
Okay, so open up your iTunes on your computer (make sure your iPhone is already connected to your computer), and under Library, click on Music.
Now, go through your entire music library, and delete every single greyed-out song.
Once you're finished that, under devices, you'll see your iPhone's name or whatever. Right-click that. And go down to Transfer Purchases.
Basically, because you deleted all the greyed-out songs, it'll completely re-do the process. And hopefully, do it correctly this time.
I really hope this helps. This has been bugging me forever, and I'm pretty Mac-savvy, so I can't believe it took me this long to figure this out!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the options at the bottom of the Music application may have been edited. You can click the More section on the far right, then choose Edit in the top right. You can then drag any options you want to that bottom bar and rearrange them.
