Put shortcut to app in startup folder as part of installation.

I want to put a shortcut to my LV executable into the All Users Startup folder so that anytime a user logs in, the application will start up. I know this can be done manually very easily, but I would like this to happen automatically as part of the installation. I tried creating the shortcut and adding it as a support file, but this has the problem that once you select the shortcut to add, you get the target added to your list instead of the shortcut. I worked around this by putting the shortcut inside a folder and adding the folder contents. When I installed the app, the shortcut was placed in the right location but was corrupted.
The logical use for choosing the Destination Setting to be "Startup Di
rectory" is for this very purpose. It seems like it should be straightforward...
It also noticed that you cannot play the game of renaming the file with a different extension such as TXT - Windows still knows it is a shortcut. Any ideas?

I don't know how to create the shortcut, but you can just place a key in the registry to get your executable to run automatically at startup.
You need to create a key with the path to the executable in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SOFTWARE >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> Run
Now to do this automatically in your VI will require more programming. You can create an executable that writes that key and set it to run after the installation or you can set an entrie in your INI file that checks if this is the first time the exe runs; if it is just write the Key and clear the flag in the ini file.
I think you could also use Microsoft's Orca utility to edit the msi file and get it to insert that Key for you (orca comes now with
the windows SDK package).

I tried putting other Applications in the Startup folder, such as IE, and they all work properly. It is only Firefox that will not open up. Firefox is my default browser.

Hi, there and thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I ran a very thorough 'scan and fix' with my Glary's Utilities and afterwards Firefox now opens properly. I'm not sure what the exact problem was but am just glad it is fixed.

Clicking an app inside a folder locks my iPad help!!!

When I put some app in folders and try to start them my iPad gets locked.
One of the app am having hard time with is itunes.
Can someone try this on his iPad and give me a feedback, is it only me

I just put my iTunes app in a folder and I had no issues with opening it - or any of the other apps in the folder.
My suggestion would be to create a new folder - add each one of the apps from that current folder - into the new folder - one at a time - opening each app as you you add it - and see if one of the other apps is causing a problem.
I don't see how a bad app could cause problems with a folder, but it's worth a try.
Try closing iTunes as well - double tap the home button, find the app in the task bar, tap and hold down on the icon until it wiggles then tap the minus sign to close it. Tap the screen above the task bar, launch iTunes again.

Bridge CS5 - Startup folder ?

I want my Bridge CS5 to startup in the same folder each time I launch Bridge. But where in the settings can this be done ?
I have been looking, but just can't find it.

You will need to amend the folderName to suit, save the script as a .jsx file also I noticed that it likes to be the first script called so start the name with an a IE: aStartUpFolder.jsx

Near the right-end of the address bar is a white star which can be difficult to see, but look closely. When you wish to bookmark a shortcut to the toolbar, double click the star. A window will open with the name of the webpage. Under that is the folder box which will probably read 'Unsorted Bookmarks'. Click the drop down arrow and change it to 'Bookmarks Toolbar' then click done.
I have several folders on my toolbar such as Music, Mail, etc. in which I add multiple websites. If you wish to add a folder, click the second drop down arrow next to 'Bookmark Toolbar' and click 'New Folder' and give it a name.
To add a bookmark to a folder, again double click the star, make sure you are in Bookmark Toolbar and click one of the two drop down arrows to find the name of the folder.
For other bookmarks use Bookmark Menu. Whatever is added here can be accessed by Bookmarks on the Menu Bar. If your Menu Bar with Bookmark, File, View, etc. is not visible, click the Alt key and they will become visible. To keep the Menu Bar, click View, Toolbars and check Menu Bar.

I suggest you assume that's how it's supposed to work, and get that to work most efficiently. I have no idea what you were trying to achieve by putting the taglib jar in APP-INF/lib. Perhaps you have multiple webapps and you wanted to avoid multiple instances of the taglib jar? If that's the case, I believe you could use WebLogic "shared application libraries" (I don't think that's the correct term), where you deploy a jar file as an application library, and the weblogic.xml file in each webapp that uses it would specify the name of the application library it uses.

Maximum number of icons/apps in Launchpad folder??

I've just installed OSX Mountain Lion on my system, and I'm not sure if I like it yet. While Launchpad is a great idea, it seems very limited in terms of what it can do. Specifically, I can't put more than 28 items (apps / icons) into a Launchpad folder. I've got a utilities folder created, and I have more than 28 apps that fit into this category which I would like to go into that folder. Is there a preferences or settings for Launchpad that one can use to manage it with?

I am talking about folders, NOT pages. When you create a folder in Launchpad, it seems you can only put 28 apps into a folder...MAXIMUM!

Variation on a theme, roybens: The only place the folder named Desktop 'is', is in your very own Home folder, which bears your shortname and is found under Users. If there's a folder called simply "Desktop" (spelling counts) in that place, AND if it contains each and every one of the items that are littered about your screen, then that IS your Desktop folder—it's just got a wee icon malfunction. Typical of Finder, not to worry.
Finder cannot work w/o a Desktop for every user, and creates a new folder when you trash the old. Sometimes, OK often, Finder's gets outta sync a bit, and it takes the new folder awhile to show up, or you may try to make one. Finder then adds numbers if it finds there's already an item named Desktop there.
More critically, what's still in that Desktop in the trash that you still want? Whatever it is get it out and into a safe place. Likewise, make sure using Get Info… that the items you see on the desktop are in Users/roybens/Desktop and not in Users/roybens/Trash/Desktop. Move'em or copy them.
Perhaps you found no Desktop in your home folder? Then make one and call that the safe place. Or maybe you found a folder called "Desktop 21-34-76" or the like; strip off the numbers and do as above. You may have to open and close the Home window a coupla times to nudge Finder along. As long as you have the stuff, it's up to you whether you put everything back into the folder called Desktop now or later. While you're tidying,you can poof the Sidebar and Dock DTs if you hav'em.
Once you're confident that nothing's missing. Log out and back in or Restart, and do your maintenance. What you should see is that the new Desktop has been blessed w/ the Desktop icon, while the one in the Trash is generic. Create a couple of new empty folders called Desktop and chuck 'em in to the trash to see the numbering thing, if you're feeling giddy. Or just reset your Sidebar and Dock and get back to business.

I purschased a new app via the App-Store.
In its describtion is stated that it should run under 10.9.
When I tried to run it for the first time, I've got the following message:
"it is not possible to start screenflow outside the folder application
- you have to start screenflow from the folder '/Application'
and it is not possible to start it from its current storage location under: "/Applications/ScreenFlow.localized" "
I opened the folder application and tried to start the app from there.
However I got the same message as described above.
I hope you can help me.

The app was installed in the application folder - but with its own folder.
Could this be the problem?
Should I remove it from its own folder and put it direktly in the application folder?

Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine: e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window. Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly Thanks anyway!

Can no longer put full screen apps to the left of 1st desktop in 10.9.3

I was a huge fan of the Spaces feature back in OS 10.5 Leopard, but conceded to the change with Mission Control replacing Expose.
I had a particular setup that I liked with the old expose, and had to change that due to Lion and ML not supporting it.
Then Mavericks came along and fixed it. Until 10.9.3.
My setup was having Mail on the left, main desktop in the middle, and iTunes on the right.
Sorry for the storytelling (bad habit), so does anyone know how to restore the ability to put a fullscreen app to the left of the first desktop in 10.9.3?

I just made Safari full screen, by click on the arrows in the upper right corner.
Did a 4 finger swipe up, to gain access to Mission Control.
Then dragged the Safari way over to the left.
So now I have a full screen Safari on the left, an empty desktop in the second position (labeled as Desktop 1), Desktop 2 in the 3rd position with Calendar opened, Desktop 3 with Mail and Desktop 4 with Notes, Stickies and Reminders.

I don't have them saved to my computer... the pictures are important and I really really need them back. Is there a way for me to get the pictures back from what I believed at the time was a smart way to backup when i made a duplicate of that main mac file to my google drive? When I send an email, it won't put a copy in my "Sent" folder, can I fix this?

I have selected to put a copy in my "Sent" folder, and occasionally it will do it just, blip, blip, almost instantly.
Then most of the time it spends a minute or two trying to put a copy in the sent folder, says there was an error in doing so do I want to "try again", but trying again doesn't work. Only way to get rid of the "write" page is to say don't try. I hope somebody knows how to fix that. I'd sure like to. It seems to have actually
sent the message, but no copy in the sent folder to assure me of that. If I put my own address with another email handler and the Bcc checked, I get the sent message, but still no copy in my sent folder. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, D.Fox

No you're not doing anything wrong. Thunderbird looses the ability to move messages to folders on some random schedule. For me it usually only happens once every 10 days or so though I did go through a period where it was happening daily. Others have it happen all the time. There have been lots of threads spread out over months. Many people post that they did "something" and "something" it fixed it, but a few days later they come back and say "Whoops - spoke too soon!".
I think all we can do is hope someone finds it and fixes it someday.
