[Q] Is is possible to disable automatic DB polling during pool shut down?

Hi everybody,
we encounter the problem that when there is a problem with the data base and the JDBC pool is being disabled due to these db outages, every node polls the data base every five seconds to see if it becomes available again. According to the documentation:

"The server instance executes a health check on the database server every 5 seconds. This setting is not configurable."
We encounter massive problems with the already overloaded db server when our six nodes try to connect to the data base resulting in approx. 1.2 server requests every second. To minimize the impact we would like to reduce the polling if at all possible. So perhapt there is some "undocumented" setting or way to reduce this polling despite the Oracle statement of it being "non configurable"?
Please note, this is not a question about problems with the pool. We have it covered already and we are pretty sure what the cause is and are working on it. We only try to relieve the data base server until the real problem is solved.

Hi. There are some things you can try.
1 - If you can manually undeploy the DS in the WLS console, for the duration of the problem, then redeploy it
when the storm has passed, that will stop it trying to reconnect.
I believe it was a mistake of ours to remove the previous ability to configure that reconnect frequency.
2 - We didn't remove the ability to configure a MultiDataSource's reconnect frequency. So you could
configure a MultiDataSource and give it your original DataSource's JNDI name, so your applications tap
the MDS, and then just list your one original DS for the MDS to use (usually an MDS is given multiple
DSes to use, hence 'Multi'). Then you can configure the MDS connection retry seconds to whatever
frequency you like, and that's how frequently the MDS will try to get the DS to reconnect. Note, the
connection retry seconds at the DS level is something else, and has no effect on your issue.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Is it possible to continue downloading OS X Lion after shutting down the computer?

I am downloading the OS X Lion app on my MacBook Pro and is only at 180mb after an hour. I am downloading this app for free because I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. Is there a way I can continue the download even after shutting down the computer? I downloaded OS X Lion over the period of a day or so and what you have to do is pause the download (for a snow leopard user that should be in your dock) and then shut down your machine. When you boot it back up, you should be able to resume the download by clicking the OS X Lion logo and typing in your Apple ID info and the download should resume at the same spot where it was when you left it.

Does PSE 10 save files automatically if my computer crashes/shuts down suddenly?

Hi, I was drawing out the base lines for a painting I am making with Photoshop Elements 10, when I left briefly. I think my computer decided it wanted to do updates suddenly, and it shut down everything. When I rebooted my computer and re-opened PSE 10, I couldn't find the file. Of course, I'm an idiot and neglected to "save as" before I left the room because someone in my house required my immediate attention.
Does PSE 10 save your project at all if suddenly your computer shuts down or crashes? If so, then how to I find those files? Or am I screwed? Because I liked how it was turning out and I had spent a lot of time to get to the point I was at before my computer decided it hated itself. So, I'd really like to get that file back...

Right-click on "My Computer", and choose Manage. Open the "Services and Applications" node on the tree structure on the left, double-click on "Services". Find the service called MAXDB:NSP Right-click on this and change the startup type to "Manual". Click "Apply", then "Ok". Then go to the service labeled as SAPNSP_00 and do the same thing, setting it to manual. That should be it. These services will then be starting only when starting the system via the MMC

Disable automatic updates in Adobe Reader DC?

Is it possible to disable automatic updates in the Adobe Reader DC? It's not under preferences where it used to be.

In an academic environment, the inability to disable updates is unacceptable. We have numerous computers that we intentionally never update. For example, all student computers never update; they are frozen with a program called DeepFreeze.
And even for our employee machines, no users have admin rights, so they cannot update the program themselves.
In addition, registry hacks are an unacceptable alternative to us. If something goes wrong, we have to explain to our CIO that we used a registry hack, and that is not going to go over well.
For now, we are going to hold off upgrading to the DC version until Adobe implements an official way to disable updates. If they refuse to implement an official method in the coming months, we'll just start using the browsers' built-in PDF readers and not install Adobe Reader at all.

Preventing Windows 7 From Automatically Shutting Down

I am transferring a large amount of data and need to leave the PC on overnight. I believe I have configured Windows so that automatic restarts for updates are disabled, yet the PC still sometimes shuts down when left on for long periods.
Any advice on how to prevent automatic shutdowns is hugely appreciated.

If your computer is actually shutting down and not going into sleep mode then you probably need to look in task scheduler and see if there is a task that launches "C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe" at some scheduled time.
If the PC is actually just going into sleep mode then use Control Panel to alter your power plan in System and Security, power options.
It may even be possible that the BIOS has a setting for your PC to turn off at some point. Although I doubt that but would check the BIOS settings.

When a port is disabled, an event 'xxx port is shutting down' is written to the event log, Then you can utilize SCOM to watch for the event, then write a script to restart it.

Is there a way to write a script for automatically ejecting or unmounting a drive on shut down?
I have a couple of firewire external drives that need to be unmounted before I shut down the computer and sometimes I forget (running the risk of losing data).
Is it best to do it with Applescript or Automator?

I'm highly confused here.
Part of the clean shutdown process is to
unmount any mounted drives. Adding a logoutHook
script isn't going to change that - it would just do
manually what the OS would do automatically.
Now an unclean shutdown such as a kernel panic
or power outage isn't going to unmount your drives,
but you also don't get an opportunity to unmount the
drives yourself.
What makes you say your drives aren't getting
unmounted?

My macbook pro shuts down automatically

My macbook pro battery condition has been showing that it needs to be replaced soon. Ever since I knew my battery was weak, I started using my macbook by always connection it to the power adapter that way the power source would be from adapter. Since last two days, while in use macbook pro shuts down on me automatically. It never said shutting down or anything like that. The screen just went blank instantly and when i checked the battery indicator lights, all of the battery is drained. When I presses the power button it started and then instantly shut down again. After few mins of repeating, I am finally able to see that my computer is getting turned on. But this issue repeats almost on a daily basis since the last three four days. Even if my battery went bad, I should be able to use my computer by connecting it to the power adapter, right ? or do I have to mandatorily replace battery for my computer to work ? please help.

My Laptop is shutting down automatically at 30% of battery.Shutting down in the sense the screen goes off and gets swtiched off without showing shutdown screen.I experienced less battery life between charges so, I used HP support Assistant software,it asked me to calibrate my battery ..now i couldn't calibrate because of this problem..

Mines started doing exactly the same! Its just 12 months old though and hardly ever gives me a low battery warning. Then it will turn off without shutting down the proper way. When I plug in and turn back on, the battery says its at 20-25%
Is there actually a solution to this and whats causing it?..because if it's the battery then **bleep**..they don't last long.

Cannot disable automatic attachment preview in Mavericks Mail?

I noticed after upgrading to Mavericks that Apple Mail started automatically previewing attachments again... I had disabled this in previous versions of OS X. I tried to disable this again in the terminal using:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
But after re-starting Mail, attachments are being automatically previewed again.
I consider this a security issue so I would like to disable automatic attachment previewing as soon as possible. Has anyone been able to do this with the Mail included with Mavericks yet?

Just a basic examplo: getting an email with an open image, that the 2 people around me can immediately see, can pose a serious security for anything I'm doing with my Mac!

That's a privacy problem, not a security problem.
If you are receiving images in emails that the others arround you are not qualified to see, your office setup is the security problem, not Mail.
Use a different email client that gives you the option. I have no idea what those are, though.

Disable automatic deletion of bindings in pageDef

When I delete a component on a .jsff og .jspx page, the binding in the pageDef file is automatically deleted if no other component on the page points to the binding.
Is it possible to disable this behavior? A lot of our variables are used in beans, and this results in a null pointer exception.
It would be really nice to have a dialog when a component is deleted, asking if you wan't to delete the binding or not.

If you delete the component in the source mode the bindings are not deleted.
