Query regarding memory upgrade

I have k8mm-v (MS 7142 v1.x) Micro ATX mobo with chipset k8m800-ce and VT8237
memory module required by the system: 184 pin unbuffererd ddr266/333/400 DDR SDRAM and can support upto 2 gb (this is as per motherboard manual)
My questions:
1.  whether I can upgrade system memory with ddr1 1gb ram
2.  do ddr sdram and ddr1 one and same thing........
3.  Now a days in india 512 mb ddr ram are costly and i want to know if there is any other way and i can upgrade my system partially or fully (if so what should i upgrade like mobo etc........) please do help me.
4.  I came across HCL ddr1 ram which seems to be less costly ................i had feeling that they would not fit onto my ram sockets (on motherboard) ..........I want to know if my hunch is real or i am just bit too nervous ...............and whether can I put HCL ram on to my system............please advise..............
your help would be greatly appreciated...............thanks....... .......in advance...............

This needs to be moved to an appropriate section in the forum by one of the moderators.
You would be indeed lucky to still find dealers that sell DDR400. At the same time you may have noticed that the prices for this RAM is way out of line with the current market price of DDR2 and DDR3. DDR3 is now becoming the mainstream standard and it would probably be appropriate to consider a change to this standard. If however you are happy with your set up and need more memory, then please consult the memory support list here : http://www.msi.com/uploads/test_report/TR10_173.pdf
If your mentioned HCL brand conforms to JEDEC standard, then there is no reason it should not work.
Suggest you do some reading on the JEDEC standard here: http://download.micron.com/pdf/misc/JEDEC79R2.pdf
It is always recommended that you use two identical mem modules in the two slots on your board, i.e. do not mix mem module size or mem modules with differing SPD values.
Your board does not support 2Gb modules. Your board supports 2Gb in total, i.e. 2 X 1Gb modules
I trust you will find more members giving you alternative solutions and recommendations.
I would like to be more specific, the "HCL ram" that I was talking about. Well, it happens to be name of company { "HCL  Infosystems Ltd." (http://www.hcl.in/) } which produces assembled computer system and they also produce RAMs and did not meant in terms of HCL compatibility list that Microsoft talks regarding hardware compatibility (I am soo sorry, I did not correctly posted the query correctly)
I am unable to find whether they make RAM according to JEDEC  standards.............
Please can any HCL guy ..................give me this clue to what standard they follow in making DDR 1 RAM
and thank you all for your kindness in providing heap of information..............thank you again and again ...........

  • Query regarding kernel upgrade

    Hi All,
Soon we are going for kernel upgrade, OS is HPUX.
    1) Do we need to download latest version of SAPCAR for extracting the *.SAR files?
Pls have a look on steps involved for kernel upgrade and let me know if i m missing something
    1) Take backup of current kernel directory-:
    cd /sapmnt/PRD/exe

    2) Download latest kernel from service maket place put it in directory latest_kernel
    cd /tmp/latest_kernel
    chown prdadm:sapsys *
    3) Give permissions
    cd /tmp
    chmod 777 latest_kernel
    4) Upgrade the kernel using following commands
    ./SAPCAR -xvf SAPEXE_* -R /sapmnt/PRD/exe
    ./SAPCAR -xvf SAPDB_* -R /sapmnt/PRD/exe
Please suggest me if I m missing something or anything in these steps is wrong.

  • Report on memory upgrade

A couple of months back, I posted several questions regarding memory upgrade for my Mini 1.5 Core solo. I thought I would take a couple of minutes and report on the results.
With memory prices dropping like they have, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to 2G. Wow! This is now the computer I thought I bought. I run Mail, Firefox, Excel [PPC], Word [PPC] and Quicken [PPC] - plus Norton AV [PPC] - regularly, and Google Earth, iTunes, iPhoto occasionally. Plus an HP printer [PPC driver]. My Page Outs were running 30-40% of Page Ins for my typical use. I waited for program swapping as well as function swapping within a program.
I now wait for virtually nothing! Page Outs are barely above 0%. Programs load faster, though actual processing appears just about the same [as expected].
I purchased Micron memory from Crucial, as I knew it would be "right". It is now selling for $132/2x1G, free shipping, plus tax in many states. In order to insure no problems with validity of my AppleCare Warr, I had it installed by my local [non-Apple] Authorized Service Center for $45. I justified 2G versus 1G by looking at 2x512M costing me about $113 [installed] to double the memory versus 2G costing me about $177 to quadruple the memory.
As I watch Activity Monitor, it is likely that 1G would have accomplished most of the improvement that I see, but I am NOT sorry I went to 2G now when memory is cheap.
Thanks to all who gave me their advice when I first posted.
MacMini 1.5 Intel Core Solo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just got the 2 GB Upgrade Kit from Crucial for $120 /w free shipping. Came to about $130 after tax.
I purchased a 1.83 Mac Mini with 512 MB of ram and an 80 GB hard drive 3 months ago. I decided it was the best solution for a recent computer failure. Although quite fast especially for CPU intensive tasks the system would hang on particular tasks.
    1) Parallels was virtually unusable (even more so if I had anything else running)
    2) iTunes had problems displaying all of my album covers in the jukebox mode
    3) Protoshop / Painter slow to load
    4) Widgets were slow to load
Having the correct tools for the job, installation of the 2 GB kit was rather simple. I didn’t seat the top SO DIMM correctly the first time around but I was smart to test the system before closing the case.
    Improvement was noticed almost immediately.
    1) Boot times increased
    2) The infrequent Beach Balls disappeared
    3) Parallels is not only usable it’s like having a 2nd computer
    4) iTunes has no hang ups
    5) Photoshop and painter can handle large images with many layers without slowing down. (Large brushes in painter kill the system, but that’s CPU related)
    6) Widgets launch faster but not as quick as I would have expected
Over all the upgrade was completely worth it. It is like a whole new computer. Bottom line 512 MB is the bare minimum for OS X 10.4 assuming you do nothing more then Brows the internet, Chat on line or use it as a media device.
I have a hard time justifying the upgrade through Apple’s site. It’s not worth the $120 premium when instillation should be simple for even an above average computer user. Either way I couldn’t recommend any one use a mini with 10.4 with anything less then 1 GB

  • Memory upgrade

    Hi,
    Can I install 2 x Crucial 4GB DDR3 - 1333 SODIMM 1.35V 204 PIN - CT51264BF1339J on a Macbook Pro 13 inch late 2011?
Currently, I have 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) and I want to upgrade to 8 GB. There is a controversial info regarding this particular memory module, some people say it is not compatible.
When I look to the specs I find:
204 PIN form factor = OK
    1,35 V = OK
    DDR3 = OK
    1333 = OK
    SODIMM = OK
    Max 8GB = OK (2 x 4GB)
Latency= 9 cicles (same that stock modules supplied with the laptop) OK
The thing is Crucial, sell an identical specs module that costs quite more. They claim it to be compatible with Mac. The also sell this one I mentioned as being not compatible. The funny thing is that specs for both are identical. I only find a difference on the pricing. So I am really confused.
Do they one to sell me a more expensive one like being specific for Mac or there is a hiden specification that makes the two modules to differ from each other?
Can somebody confirm this info to me, please?
    Many thanks in advance
    Best Regards

    News on this subject:
A Crucial support representative replied saying:
"Mac compatible memory is guaranteed to work in your specific system.  There may be subtle differences in non specific memory that will cause it not to work for you such as chip solution and the configurations of chips..."
Well, I find it very ambiguous technically speaking. If they sell good quality memory as they claim, I do not see which subtle differences will affect the functionality. The chip configuration is standard and chip solution is about quality. So Crucial should be all right as everyone claims (even if manufactured in China)
So I went a head and both 2 x CT51264BF1339J for a very reasonable Belgian price and installed it into my system just two minutes ago. I am writing this using the mentioned system.
I was on Google after 30 seconds of taping the On button. Although it did not changed a lot as this startup timing is more related to the Hybrid 750GB HDD (SSD + Conventional Drive) I upgraded few months ago.
I upgraded the memory to run Virtual Box and Parallel desktop more easily though it worked quite good with 4GB. I did not upgraded to 16GB because it is not necessary on my usage. Only one virtual machine at once + E-mail + Browser + some PDF opened. Some technical stuff and nothing like Photoshop or similar. Thus the huge money difference would have gone for nothing if I buy the specific Mac modules of 8GB each as "Crucial Memory Upgrade Tool" subjected me.

  • Memory upgrade on NB300-108

Looking to upgrade Ram memory to 2gb on my NB300-108
Have looked at Toshiba website and the cost but there appear to be a plethora of alternative websites with compatible memory upgrades when I put in the part number.
Would welcome any experiences of the forum regarding alternatives etc
    Thank you

According notebook specification you can upgrade your NB to 2GB. I recommend you to use high quality module offered by Kingston. All info about it you can find here .
I have NB520 so I cannot tell you more about NB300.

  • Memory upgrade on Tecra M7

How do you actually upgrade the RAM on a Tecra M7. This is a new laptop and the correct memory card has already been purchased. I just can't find any technical info in the manual or on the website as to how to physically do this.
    Regards
    Marion

    Hi
On the most notebooks the memory slot are placed at the bottom of the unit but it seems that on Tecra M7 the slots are placed under the keyboard.
may I ask why you suggest the user manual does not provide any information about the memory upgrade???
I have downloaded the user manual from the Toshiba site and found a long and detailed instruction how to upgrade and insert the modules!!!
You should check the chapter 3 -> Features, Utilities and Options -> Memory expansion
Please post again after the replacement.
    Greetings and bye

  • MS 7309 Memory Upgrade

I have a question regarding a memory upgrade for the MS 7309 (K9)motherboard;  A60 BIOS, Upgraded to 800Mhz DDR2 memory from 5400, with WinXp OS.   I am experiencing system stability problems with both 2 Gb sticks installed,  the system is stable on one stick, total upgrade 4GB.  There was initially only 2Gb, 5400 installed.
Should I overclock my system or update the BIOS?  And if I need to overclock is there a process or utility to use to do this.  The currently installed overclocking center utility does not work, is there an updated one?

To figure out what bios version you have, >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<. After starting the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher it will automatically detect your board's current bios and save the details in a file on your desktop called MSIHQ_INFO.txt. There you can read up the exact bios version. You can quote this details here to make it easier for others to help you[/b]

  • Memory Upgrade for T61

    Hi friends,
I have a T61 7663-xxx system, with 1 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz RAM. My Front Side Bus is 800 MHz ( I think so!), Everest software reports my memory controller is dual channel capable, and ~ 85% physical utilization of RAM. I have a nVidia Quadro NVS 140M 128 MB graphics card, but Everest reports 512 MB ?
I would like to upgrade my RAM, and buy some online.
    a) Should I buy a similar 2 GB PC2-5300 RAM for my system for performance boost, running Windows XP 32 bit? If so, should I buy Lenovo RAM only, for maintaining my 3 year warranty intact?
Only ThinkPad and Lenovo memory will assume ThinkPad and Lenovo notebook systems limited warranty
    b) What are the other best alternatives for good quality, reliable laptop memory,  besides Lenovo?
    c) Would it be better if I am able to buy RAM which can match my FSB? Will this have any performance benefit? Do these similar FSB speed RAM exist?
Kindly suggest top memory makers, if any.
I could not find any Lenovo 800 MHz memory from their website.
Kindly help me solve my memory upgrade problem.
I am a mechanical engineering student, hence I don't have any idea about FSB and the like, so I request the learned members to cast light on this area.
Info about reputed online sites in US, with fast delivery will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hmm.  As far as I know, the internal graphics card can't be upgraded.  There's some dock you can buy that lets you add a graphics card for use with an external monitor, but I don't know much about it.  The cpu is more likely to be upgradeable, but don't attempt unless you know a decent amount about hardware servicing.  Also, make sure the cpu will be supported by the motherboard!  Best not to buy one with a clockspeed higher than what Lenovo sold (core 2 duo at 2.6 ghz).
Why do you want to upgrade so much?  I run 2.1ghz with discrete graphics and 2gb ram under Vista, and it runs beautifully.  If you have integrated graphics, then that might be a bit of a pain, but hey, you've got better battery life!
Anyway, I'd look more into de-cluttering your computer to speed stuff up.  Remove anything you don't need, especially Lenovo tools that run in the background and you may not need.  Turn off search indexing (slower searches, but faster overall performance).  There are some nice guides online, if you google "vista tuneup."
Good luck!  Enjoy your T61 as it is!  It's a lovely laptop

I feel the best way to get the parameters which needs to be adjusted is to go for EarlyWatch Check after increasing the Physical Memory of your SAP system, as we cannot say how and which parameters needs to be checked and changed.. as there is some dependiblity also between the parameters...
    All the best !

  • Macbook Pro late 2008 Memory upgrade Issue

    Dear Gurus,
I have a late 2008 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz  with 2 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 installed, I just brought a pair of corsair (2*4GB) DDR3 (CMSO4GX3M2A1333C9) memory upgrade and installed it in my macbook pro. I'm running OS-X Lion 10.7.1 before the upgrade now in About This Mac menu show that I have 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and everything seem to be ok only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen. Question: Is the Ram upgrade is OK or I need to return the Ram and get the 1066 Mhz to replace my 2 Gb Ram. How can my mac report that I have 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram while the system only at 1066 Mhz bus
    Best regards,

RAM will clock back to match the system bus as long as it's otherwise compatible. Reporting utilities tend to read the RAMs design speed.
    It it works, ignore it.
As for this part of your question:
only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen.
that's normal. The OS does a "power-in self test" or "POST" at startup that includes RAM checking. The more RAM installed, the longer the test takes. You quadrupled you RAM, so the increase in start time does not surprise me.

  • WS-SUP720-BASE memory upgrade

    Hi,
We have WS-SUP720-BASE, both the RP & SP memory is 512MB. We want to upgrade it to both 1GB. Can you tell me which part number and how many QTY we must be order for both RP & SP memory upgrade?
    Best Regards,
    Jackson Ku

The description of the line item,MEM-MSFC3-1GB says
    "1GB Mem for Sup720, Sup720-3B and MSFC2A"
So that should take care of the SP (sup engine) but doesnt look like MSFC3 is supported.
At the same time, MEM-MSFC2-512MB=, the description shows, MSFC3.
    "Catalyst 6500 512MB DRAM on the MSFC2 or SUP720 MSFC3, Spare"

  • Frequent kernel panic due to memory upgrade?

My 3.5 year-old MacBook Pro started to have increasingly frequent kernel panics a while ago, sometimes even several times per week. The Apple Store said it must be connected to the memory upgrade (from 2 to 4 GB). However, having the modules replaced with new Samsung ones provided little relief. Could both memory upgrades have compatibility issues or is something wrong with the mainboard? Right now, I am mostly running Win 7 in Bootcamp. The cursor will just freeze following an action such as trying to open a web site or formatting a row in Excel.
BTW, the most battery life the machine ever  gave me was two and a half hours, regardless of whether I was running Snow Leopard (with Parallels) or Windows.
    Thanks!
    Kind regards,
    Hans Christian, Oldenburg, Germany

well... the first time i got the kernel panic. it was text overlay on my screensaver that was running. The second time the computer just froze. I wonder though if the kernel panic would have eventually happened.
i keep noticing now that this iChat Agent slowly creeps up during the day to about 2GB Real Memory and 2.4 Virtual Memory. is this normal or causing the freeze??

  • Memory upgrade on iMac G3 700, help with system crashes

I tried to do a memory upgrade on my iMac, so I bought two kingston 256 MB PC133 modules, but none will work, the system starts, but hangs in about two minutes after loading the desktop. I went back to use the older memory module wich is an spectek, but I need the upgrade, any ideas?
    Thanks!
    FedericoMG.
Ps: Sorry about my english... I'm from Argentina... :-P

    Hi Federicomg
The iMac 700 G3 should have been supplied with 1 stick of 256mb ram. However which is the correct type i am not sure as the Apple specifications for this model state PC100 whereas my iMac G3 700 graphite was supplied with 256 MB PC133-333 SDRAM
    http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMacSummer2001.html
Apple profiler from my iMac this is the original supplied RAM from Apple:-
    DIMM0/J13: Size: 256 MB
    Type: SDRAM
    Speed: PC133-333
    1) I would re-instal the original ram and open system profiler to see what type the ram is.
    2) Keeping the original stick in place add another stick of the new ram and look again in profiler to see if its recognised and again try the second stick to see if there's a problem with one of the sticks.
I am currently running my iMac with a small upgrade of RAM and the additional RAM is 128MB of PC100 and i have noticed the performance improvement since adding the PC100 so it's working and i have suffered no ill effects doing this..

  • MS-6195 memory upgrade

    Hi,
My system is based on Ms-6195 K7 pro and Athlon 700 mhz. 192 Mb Ram (128Mb module + 64Mb module)
    Problem:
when I try to upgrade memory with a sdram 256Mb PC100 module, the memory test can't finish and my system don't boot.
Please can you tell me how configure coreectly the BIOS or tell how to do.

    MS-6195 memory upgrade.
I have also tried using new PC100 256Mb memory and am getting nowhere.
The ones that I have bought are single sided, [8 chips on only one side]
and do not work with my motherboard, however, if I put them into another,
older PC, it shows up as 128Mb.
So I assume that the DIMM is working OK, and that the 'old' PC has a memory size limitation??
I have tried the same things as wbs and Grommit and got the same results.
So I assume that the answer is in getting older DIMMs, double sided with 8 chips on either side.
Does this seem to be about right???

I People, this is my first post here and unfortunately is to report a problem, not to help friends.
I did an memory upgrade last weekend. After this, he will not boot normally, only in safe mode.
I discovered that they sent me 1333Mhz memories, and my mac (mid 2009) supports only 1066Mhz.
I put the old memories again, however I believe that the system did not recognize.
As you can see below, the system recognizes two modules:
    Memory Module: BANK 0/DIMM0, 4 GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz, 0x80CE, 0x4D34373142353237334448302D4348392020
    Memory Module: BANK 1/DIMM0, 4 GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz, 0x80CE, 0x4D34373142353637334648302D4346382020
    It is not true, I' using now 2 x 2GB, DDR3, 1067 Mhz (stock)
I tried to reinstall the system, but when I try, I got crash again.
how can I solve this issue?

    Hi BGreg,
I already reset the PRAM as you said.
I've cleaned the memory modules as indicated by Linc above.
Today I formatted my harddrive to try a clean install, but system crashs after 5%, 10%.
There is something making me worried:
In one of my tries, I opened the system view to check my actual hardware configuration, and to my surprise, the system shows me 8GB installed. Cannot be. I have 2 x 2GB.
Where my system stores this information? There is a way to reset it? I tried last hour install the snow leopard, that cames with my mac, by DVD, but does not worked too.
    Thank you all so far.
    Giuliano
