Query Regarding Rich Text Editor in Oracle 10G

Hello.
Can anyone let me know is their any privilege in Oracle 10g that we Incorporate the Rich Text Editor functionality. Currently we are working on Laboratory / Radiology Template based Reports in which they are requesting their should be option through which we can simply Cut and Paste our organized TEXT(REPORT) which are formatted in MS WORD with Bold,Underline and in Bullets format, it should simply paste in Editor and we can view a Template based report with formatted REPORT.
We are using Oracle 10G and it's Applet based Application. Any clue how can we Accomplish this? Any Suitable Suggestion?
Thanks

Sorry, I referred this already.. This also returns the HTML text. But i don't want the HTML text. I want Normal Text what i enter in the Editor. But as of now all the editors are returning HTML text. So in the front end also it is showing HTML text only.
I entered the text in Editor as
System Defaulted Note
Quote entered
But editor returns as below and the same way it is showing in the Front end application instead of above text.
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
System Defaulted Note
<p>
Quote entered
</p>
</body>

    However I assume you are using sqlplus
    If this is the case define the _EDITOR variable to one of the following as appropriate ....
    DEFINE _EDITOR=notepad
    DEFINE _EDITOR=vi

  • Rich Text Editor not showing up

    Hi. I've installed OracleAS 10g Rel 2.
    When I try to add text using IE6 the text area is just gray. I have tried to change different attributes in IE but its still gray. I dont know how to debug IE either, I normally use firefox.
    Any ideas how I can debug IE, or what I should change on my IE to make the rich text editor show up.
    (btw, the installation is on my laptop, using XP pro. Not supportet but generally works fine. I know ppl at Oracle have this working on XP so it should not be the issue).

    hi terje,
    i just tested this on my 10.1.2 installation using IE6 and it works fine. so it seems not to be any general issue.
    2 things i would check:
    - does a java scrip error occur on the page when you add/edit a text item. you see this in the left lower corner of the browser.
    - check the log files on the application server mid-tier.
    - but before starting debugging i would go to another pc and try to access your portal from there. this will show you if your client machine is the problem or if the portal installation is the problem.

  • How to upgrade PORTAL 9.0.4.1 – ENHANCED rich text editor

    Hi, we are currently in Oracle 9ias rel 2 environment. The RTE for adding the item is not supporting relative path. PORTAL 9.0.4.1 patch comes with ENHANCED rich text editor which supports the relative path. However, you have to be on 10g to apply this patch. We just want to upgrade this RTE to the enhance version. Does any one know whether there is a patch for this or any ides to resolve this problem. This is a workaround for this by simply disabling the RTE but it is not convinent for our business users.
    Thanks in advance
    Frank

    hi frank,
    the new version of the RTE is only available from 9.0.4.1 onwards. it is not available in 9.0.2.x.
    we have a white paper on OTN:

  • Using rich text editor (RTE) for custom applications

    Our users enter texts on two places:
    1) In Oracle Portal in text-items using the Rich Text Editor.
    2) In text-fields in a custom application using html-tags <textarea>blabla</textarea>. For formatting the users currently have to type in html-tags themselves. Now we want to provide them an html-editor.
    We would prefer to use the Rich Text Editor also for the custom application. However, that is integrated in Portal and the java-scripts are not easy to follow.
    Have you tried something similar? So, did you use the Rich Text Editor for your own application? If yes, how?
    If not, a very good alternative would be the qwebeditor (see http://www.qwebeditor.com). Did anybody replace the standard Portal rich text editor with the qwebeditor? In the Portal guides there are instructions about replacing the Portal rich text editor by another editor, but it is not clear if this will also work with the qwebeditor.
    Thanks for your respons !

    Hi Jan,
    I have configured FCKeditor in a few clients, and the process it's pretty straight forward, you can use the steps in the document (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_rte_1014_features.pdf) .
    Basically you download FCKeditor and put it in your apache server (you can put it unde rthe htdocs folder) after that, all you need to do is modify $ORACLE_HOME/portal/images/webword/buildUIHTML.html to reference the FCKeditor JS and CSS, and you can do the same type of reference for your custom apps.

  • Rich Text Editor with Custom Text Attribute

    Hello All,
    We are using the latest version of Oracle Portal 10G. I have a need to create custom Attributes of the type text to let people enter a lot of text. But when User are in edit mode of an item where this custom attribute is used, the Rich Text Editor is not shown for entering the Text for the Custom Text Attribute. It shows a normal html text area. Has anyone ever used RTE with Custom Attribute?
    I request you guys for help.
    Thanks.

    The Problem with the Custom Attribute is not solved, but I have now compromised with the Situation and now I am not using a Custom attribute.
    Rather, Now I am creating a Custom Item Type using Base Text Type (earlier i wanted to create custom item type at my own without any base item type). In this case now I will not be able to change the Lable of the RTE (that is "Text", when the Custom Item is in Edit Mode), but I hope that my users can understand that much.
    I have created a template for portal pages. In the Template I can edit the Region Properties. When I edit the Region property of the region where I want to display my Custom Items. I get two Tabs on the top, Main and Attributes/Style. ON the main tab I can tell what type of region it should be, width etc, in my case it is item type region. And on the Attributes/Style tab, I can select from the availabe Attributes as which all Attributes I want to display. Here if i select only "Associated Functions" Attribute then normally portal should not render anything by default on the Page. It should rather make a call to the procedure which is associated with the Custom Item and as when I was creating the custom item type, I had clicked on "Display Procedure Results With Item", so portal should now display the result of my Procedure. So far it works without problem.
    But the problem is that the Portal displays the text at its own also. As i have written that Portal should not display anything at its own, this doesn't work in this version of Portal for a Custom Item Type that is made using Base Text Item Type. For all others it has worked till now (I have create 50s of Custom item types).
    You can better understand by going to the following URL. Just have a look between the two dotted lines (Dotted line is also a seperate Custom Item Type). Between the two Dotted Lines is a custom item, in general it would be a Custom News Item having title, image and so on.
    http://sunnode1.edvz.sbg.ac.at:7778/portal/page?_pageid=79,56047&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
    I have really programmed a lot with portal but now at this stage where I am near to end, I am getting problems which are coming from Product. I request you for help.

  • Display instantly the length of the text entered in the rich text editor

    Hi everybody,
    I'm developing an apex application with apex 4.1.1 and Oracle 11.2.
    I have a page in which I have a form that allows to create a new message on the database.
    A message has a title, description, text and date.
    For the text I use the item "rich editor text". The problem is that item doesn't show the length of characters entered (character counter for the textarea). In the database the corresponding column is varchar2(2000). What I do is a validation after submit that checks if the limit 2000 was exceeded or not.
    But what I want to do more is to display instantly the length of the text entered in the editor. I have tried to do that through a dynamic action. But the event "onChange" for the item "rich text editor" didn't work.
    Has anyone any idea about that issue?
    Thanks for helping.
    Kind regards,

    sorry about that, I missed that tidbit in your OP... well I think there is a good reason why there isn't a count character option -- due to the hidden "html" characters responsible for the "richness" (bold/color, etc) applied to the text would be difficult to count true characters.. if I was bent on doing this, I'd continue using the item you are using, but have a HIDDEN text area that is updated via javascript onkeyup for each keystroke (again, keeping in mind you'd have to filter certain keys) and then that intelligence could be used. I would probably dig through the javascript responsible for the rich text editor (is it still fckeditor??) -- there might already be code in there that isn't clearly visible to you that does this already.. alas, I see now the validity of your challenge.

  • Broken links because of the Rich Text Editor

    Hi.
    We are actually using the item type "text" to insert sorts of HTML code into our pages, specially when we need to create tables. Since we are using Internet Explorer we have enabled the rich text editor to use in item types text; it has a check box that allows the user to view the text in HTML format, so that is the way we build tables and also "href" links to other pages inside our site.
    The problem is this: when I write the path for the HREF links I don't specify the COMPLETE path (that is, without the server name and the portnumber), but when I open the item for edit, the Rich Text Editor seems to be including the server name and the port number in my href path, even when I didn't specify it when creating it.
    I need help with this, please. We are using this server for trial purposes, but what would happen when we move the entire site to another server? I guess Portal won't resolve the URLs, but we will have too many broken lists.
    Thank you all.

    hi guillermo,
    with the release of the 9.0.4.1 patchset we now support a new enhanced rich text editor that has very good table support as well as support for relative URLs.
    for detailed information please have a look at the following technote that we published recently on OTN:
    http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/OTN_CONTENT/MAINPAGE/PUBLISH_CONTMGMT/RICH_TEXT_EDITOR_TECH_NOTE.PDF
    this new rich text editor should adress your requirements.

  • Make changes to the rich text-editor toolbar

    I need to add and remove some functionality of the rich text-editor toolbar. Based on the documentation: "Oracle Portal 10g release 2 - enhanced rich text editor", I can modified the Rich Text Editor (RTE) by modifying a file located in http://<host>:<port>/images/buildUIembed.html. To remove or rearrange a button within the RTE toolbar, I need to modify the drawEditor() function. I was able to do this; however, now I need to add one functionality: add the header format. I want to add the functionality of having "h1", "h2", and "h3" in some type of combo box. I know how to remove, but I am not sure how to go ahead and add this functionality. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marcelo

    I need exactly this feature too...
    Have you find some information?
    I plan to change to other rich editors (as TinyMCE) but I have no documentation about how to do it...

  • Replacing the Rich Text Editor with FCKeditor

    Hi,
    I've seen a few people mention that they've replaced Portals RTE with FCKeditor in the Portal 10.1.2 release. As ever Oracles documentation is scant (that's being generous) as to how to do this. If anyone has, can you give me an example of how you have modified your buildUIembed.html file.
    I've currently got this partially working, the new RTE is displaying, but the page won't submit. Portals JS is trying to .save() the RTE content, a method which it apparently doesn't support!
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    Per the OracleAS Portal User's Guide (available at http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver1012.html)
    Possibility of extending or replacing the seeded rich text editor
    You can customize the OracleAS Portal rich text editor to support your needs: from simple changes, for example, replacement of buttons on the editor's toolbar, to more complex changes, for example, replacement of the seeded editor with one of your own.
    Such changes involve altering the files that comprise the user interface and functions of the seeded rich text editor. This being the case, this feature is intended for advanced OracleAS Portal administrators. Additionally, you should be aware that future upgrades of OracleAS Portal may impact any modifications made to these files. Support for this feature is offered through the Portal Content Area discussion forum and not through Oracle Support;
    You may want to pose this question in that forum.

  • Using a different Rich Text Editor ?

    Hi,
    I'd like to know if you're using a different Rich Text Editor other than the one provided by Oracle ?
    Are you satisfied with it ? Especially in the management of images ?
    Thanks
    Max.

    there is a textflow component
    http://blog.flexexamples.com/2009/07/25/exporting-a-textflow-object-in-flex-4/
    still exports to font tags unfortunately, but its closer than the richtexteditor. Its basically at the point where you could even write your own small parser and adapt the output to the format you desire.

  • Using the Document Manager Rich Text Editor

    I'm wondering whether there is a reasonable way we can use the Rich Text Editor (based on CKEditor) that is contained within the Document Manager task flow (primarily for editing Wiki pages) outside of the Document Manager itself? We have another type of content we need a Rich Text Editor for, but it would be great if we could use the inline image links, tables, links to documents in the content repository, etc.

    Have you consider use Site Studio + Content Presenter?

  • Portal Rich Text Editor in Firefox 3.5 Not Working

    I'm using Oracle Portal Version: 10.1.4.0.0 (Build: 594)
    The text item Rich Text editor works fine in IE 6 and has reduced functionality in Firefox 3.0 (scroll doesn't work). I've just updated to Firefox 3.5 and the text editor doesn't work at all now.

    Update :
    There is a patch available to potentially fix the Rich Text Editor issues in Firefox
    "The Rich Text Editor Does Not Work Correctly In FireFox" - Metalink Doc ID: 456512.1
    or you can replace the RTE completely with a 3rd party editor :
    "How to integrate third party RTE (FCKeditor) with Oracle Portal" - Metalink Doc ID: 352796.1
    Using FCKEditor may well solve the issues but I only use Firefox for development. Our users use IE6 so I don't want to replace the interface unless I have to.

    This is a known issue in both Portal 10.1.4.x and Portal 11.x :
    Bug 8708210 (11) NOT ABLE TO RENDER RICH TEXT EDITOR WITH FIREFOX 3.5 BROWSER
    This bug is not published on Metalink.
    There is no solution yet. Consider to use IE Tab (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419) for editing file items until this bug is solved.

  • Oracle Text in installing Oracle 10g without licence!!

    Hi. Everyone.
    I've read some thread , but I am still confused about "oracle text".
    Now, I am testing oracle10g database.
    I downloaded 10g software from www.oracle.com, and installed it sucessfully
    on windows xp.
    When I was trying to import a dump file from oracle9i to
    the unlicenced oracle10g database, I got the error , IMP-00017, which
    is related to "Oracle Text".
    I checked "dba_users" dictionary, but ctxsys user is locked and expired.
    I read some thread on this site, and according to the advice, I tried to
    enable oracle text, using "DBCA".
    However, every database option on DBCA is disabled, I was not able to
    check oracle text.
    Lastly, how can I enable "Oracle Text" with unlicenced oracle 10g ?
    Is this possible without licence?
    I am very confused about this.
    I am looking forward to hear your experience and advices.
    Have a nice day.
    Best Regards.
    Ho.

    Well, instead of being confused, you could go to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 and look at
    1) the licensing document, which would tell you whether you need a separate license, and
    2) under the 'Books' tab, look at the Text Application Developer's Guide or the Text Reference manuals for details.
    You could also look for the Oracle Text forum (from the http://forums.oracle.com page, under Database - More, or Text and ask the people who concentrate on that set of features.
    In general, Oracle Text is a set of extensions, the definitions for which are stored under user ctxsys. You would use these extensions by creating your own objects that are based on the extensions.
    For example, suppose your tables contain varchar2 columns. Create indexes that are based on ctxsys's 'context index type' and your application can then use the 'CONTAINS' keyword search capability (which is effectively a ctxsys-owned extension to the select)
    However, you would never log on to ctxsys and do anythibng with that as you risk changing the template code that Oracle has supplied.

    PS: Yes, Oracle Text is included as part of the base database. Most of it is even included in the free Oracle XE database.
