Query the value of the environment ORACLE_HOME

I have this problem where I have to call CTX_DDL.OPTIMIZE_INDEX and log the results using CTX_OUTPUT.START_LOG, and I have to tell the user where the log file is. The problem is that I don't know where the log file is being written to.
According to the documentation on START_LOG [1], the file is written to the value of the LOG_DIRECTORY, which I can get with the query:
SELECT PAR_VALUE FROM CTXSYS.CTX_PARAMETERS WHERE UPPER(PAR_NAME)=UPPER('LOG_DIRECTORY')
But this value is NULL in our case, so the log file is written to +%ORACLE_HOME%/ctx/log+. All well and good if you know what the value of %ORACLE_HOME% will be on the server. But I don't know. I would have liked a query such as
SELECT VAR_VALUE FROM V$ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLES WHERE VAR_NAME='ORACLE_HOME'
But I can't find any table or view to query or any PL/SQL function that will give me this value. Does anyone know of a way to get this value?
This is Oracle 10g.2 running on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

But I can't find any table or view to query or any PL/SQL function that will give me this value. In some blogs, I've seen this done by calling the package DBMS_SYSTEM.
Unfortunately, it's an undocumented package so I would never use it in production code.
Can you derive the value somehow by querying v$parameter? Maybe background_dump_dest? Of course, this isn't guaranteed.

Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
(or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

explain the exact problem..? as you mentioned you want to create query to show values for current month and last 12 months.. so I think you want to show values for 12 months from current data.. you can achive this by multiple way..
you can have selection screen and field with date .. and restrict based on system current date and 12 months before or you can handle this at your target.. .. I mean there are multiple ways to restrict data by date range..

How to retrieve query string value from the URL in my portlet

Hi,
When user clicks on "Advance Search", i am redirecting to page in the community. At the same i am adding some more values to the query string (to the URL).
My URL will look like this.
http://ctp-mc0149/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&parentname=CommunityPage&parentid=0&in_hi_userid=200&cached=true&control=SetCommunity&PageID=202&CommunityID=200&searchType=2
Now in one of my portlet in that page, i want to retrieve the query string values from the URL.
Please help me regarding this.

Not able to view the values on the report viewed using Query Report Viewer

There seems to be some unknown problem with the Report Template I have prepared and uploaded on PIA XML Publisher. When I run it with some ID set, it doesn't seem to show the values from the Data I give. In the above code, m able to fetch the records in the table it_stpo2. but the data is not gettin populated in the final internal table it_stpo. Both the internal tables it_stpo & it_stpo2 are same.
The data is gettin moved from it_stpo2 to it_stpo but only upto the header level. its not gettin appended in the table it_stpo even after using append stmt.
Plz help me to resolve this issue. its urgent.

BTW, first of all, try to execute the query removing the parenthesis
of the two select statement. I know that there are some problem
with the oracle jdbc driver about them.

How to get all the values of the SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY of a Oriented Point

I'm trying to get the values of a Geometry wich is an Oriented Point. To that, i'm using SDO_UTIL.GETVERTICES, but this utility only obtains the point X,Y, it doesn't obtain the values of the orientation vector.
The Geometry is this:

As you can see, it only obtains the X,Y values but not the values of the orientation vector, how can I get the values?.

How can can i subtract the value of the column in each row ?

I want to subtract the value of the column in each row if the row is not enough then continue to next row.
For example
ID QTY
A 20
B 40
C 60
I want to update this table by subtract the value of the column (QTY) out 70 so the result i want will be
ID QTY
A 20 - 70 = -50 --> 0 this row will be updated to 0 and 50 will continue to next row
B 40 - 50 = -10 --> 0   this row will be updated to 0 and 10 will continue to next row
C 60 - 10 = 50 --> Stop loop

This makes no sense. Rows have no ordering; that is a spreadsheet. There is no such thing as a generic “id” in RDBMS. And an identifier is not a sequence which would have an ordering.

I think it is how the current user information is stored based on your logic.
You might be quering current value again when loading the form (Form load Rule).
you have to tweak your logic, after the user submits the form you can set the username to the one who saved it.
or in form load, write a logic to see if the form was not saved before and then query the username( by using internal field like "formstatue")

How to set the value of the column as the value of other table coulmn.

dear friends
i have a table SO_D having coulm (so_no,item_cd,qty,rate,unit)
and anather table so_tax(so_no,tax_code,tax_percent,tax_amt,item_cd,flag)
now i have ALL VALUES in the first table i.e so_d
but in table so_tax i have all values except item_cd.
the values in the so_tax table comes from so_d by the formula ((qty*rate)*percent(which in so_tax table))/100) corresponding to each item_cd
here so_no and item_cd are primary key in so_d and foreign key in the so_tax.
and for each so_no the item_Cd is unique and my repeat for new so_no in the table so_d.
now i have the problem that in the table so_tax the value in the coulmn item_cd is blank .
but the tax amount is calculated for each item_cd .
now i want to update the table with the item_Cd values ad they are in the so_d table according to the tax amount calculated by using above formula.
please suggest the solution..
any query please ask

Why can't i detect the value of the first column ??

I need to retreive a list of values from the database.
But everytime i can only retreive the values from the second rows onwards.

there is supposed to be three columns that matches the query but only two are returned.

1. right after String sQuery = "....."; use the
System.out.println(sQuery);
2. cut and paste the query string that was output to the console.
3. paste it into SQL*Plus or whatever you database utility program is, and run it.
4. These results won't lie.
Probably...
5. You will realize the error in your SQL. The query you are sending to the database is actually correct, but not what you thought. You will slap yourself in the face in disgust, fix the query and continue programming...and pretend it wasn't your fault! :>)

Manually input ( or type ) the value of the node in hierarchy

Dear all,
I have the following requirement :
In the query, I am using a hierarchy node variable. Now, by default, on the selection screen the valued can be passed to this hierarchy node var. by a drill down on the hierarchy on which the variable is created and selecting one of the nodes.
Now, I would like to manually input ( or type ) the value of the node instead of performing the drilldown on the hierarchy and selecting the node..
It is this possible for a hierarchy node variable ?

You create a Variable with following selections
Type of variable : Hierarchy node
processing : Manual Input/Default value
Reference Char : Mention the CHAR that contain this hierarchy
Define it as SIngle value & Mandatory entry.user can see all the nodes in F4 help and selects the node as he wants

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.
