Query to insert a row in a table with same values except 1 field.

Suppose I have a table with 100 columns(fields).
I want to insert a row with 99 fileds being the same as previous ones except one fileld being different.
The table doesn't have any constraints.
Kindly suggest a query to solve the above purpose..

And for much more lazy people, a desc of table is shorter to write. :-)
Then copy & paste into any editor, then mode column to add a comma after every column name in one shot.Or have the system do it for you. Be lazy.
SELECT Column_Name || ',' FROM User_Tab_Columns where Table_Name = '';
Indeed, it can be converted to a script called desc(.sql)
SELECT Column_Name || ',' FROM User_Tab_Columns where Table_Name = '&1' ORDER BY Column_Id;
Then desc or @desc.

    Is this with the Travel database or another database?
    If it's another database then make sure your columns
    allow nulls. To check this in the Server Navigator, expand
    your DataSource down to the column.
    Select the column and view the Is Nullable property
    in the Property Sheet
    If still no luck, check out a tutorial, like Performing Inserts, ...

  • Inserting Multiple Rows in a table

    Hello,
    I need to insert multiple rows in a table with the selected items from a list (Multiple select).
    How do i go about it. I'm using ADF-struts-UIX application on Jdeveloper 9.0.5.2
    Thanks.

    Jonas, I've downloaded the sample application from your ADF UIX Editable table tip but have some problems.
    I can't even open the emp.table.uix file - errors are:
    Parsing error. Unable to parse binding.
    javax.servlet.jst.el.ELException:Function ctrl:createSortableHeaderModel was not found.
    and
    javax.servlet.jst.el.ELException:Function ctrl:getSortOrder was not found.
    Also - is there a place in the sample where you define the sample tables? They do not seem to match the standard sample emp table, for instance.
    I've just started using JDeveloper and would like to use the solution.
    Thanks - Linda

  • Populate target table with default value

    I have a query like this:
    SELECT 0 AS ID,
    9999999999 AS CODE
    FROM DUAL
    UNION ALL
    SELECT VEH.TP_ID AS ID,
    VEH.VEH_ID AS CODE
    FROM TB_VEHICLE;
    So I have an interface with two data sets, one for each query.
    The first data set represents the "select from dual" "constant values" and the second represents the "select * from tb_vehicle".
    In the first data set I don´t have a source, then ODI generates a select without a table "select 0 AS ID, 99999 AS CODE FROM".
    Any ideas on how can I achieve my objective? I need to populate one row on target table with constant values.
    Thanks

    Alternatively , try this :
    Duplicate the LKM and IKM you are using, create copies , something like LKM xyz (No Source) , IKM xyz (No Source).
    Then adust the KM steps accordingly, remove the 'FROM' part and replace with VALUES ( ) , keeping the odiref substitution call in the parenthesis.
    So you basically have a knowlede module that accepts no source data, generating :
    insert into C$
    (col 1, col 2, col 3 etc)
    VALUES
    (Target mapping 1, target mapping 2, target mapping 3 etc)
    I've seen it done, nice and tidy, keeps all the lineage in ODI etc.

  • How to identify date & time of insertion of rows in a table

    Hi,
    Is it possible to identify the date & time of insertion of rows in a table?
    for example:
    Table name: emp
    I have rows like this
    emp_code name dept
    pr01 ram edp
    ac05 gowri civil
    pr02 sam pro
    i want to know the date and time of the insertion this( ac05 gowri civil).
    Could you please help me.....
    Thanks in advance....

    sorry for the confusion. I dont want to store date and time. I said that for example only.
    I have table which consists of thousands of rows. I want to know the insertion date & time of a particular row.
    Is it possible?So, if I have a table that stores a load of employee numbers, do you think I could get the database to tell me their names?
    If you don't store the information, you can't query the information.
    Ok, there are some dribbs and drabbs of information available from the back end of the database via the SCN's, Archive Logs etc., but those sort of things disappear or get overwritten as time goes by. The only way to know the information it to ensure you store it in the first place.
    So, in answer to your question, No, there isn't a true and reliable way to get the data/time that rows were inserted into the table, unless you have chosen to store it alongside the data.

  • Insert multiple rows in on table and retreive sequence values

    Hello,
    I'm searching a way to insert several rows in a table that needs a sequence and retreive its.
    For one row i use ExecuteScalar method with the following SQL is :
    INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK)
    VALUES(SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL) RETURNING MY_PK INTO :MY_PARAMETER
    The aim is to insert several rows at one time. Currently I execute this SQL :
    INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK, MY_VALUE)
    SELECT SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL, MY_VALUE
    FROM (
    SELECT 0 MY_VALUE FROM DUAL UNION ALL
    SELECT 1 MY_VALUE FROM DUAL
    This query works well but i'm wondering how to retreive all sequence values generated by this query.
    Is it possible and how ?
    Thank you.
    Sebastien

    I tried this :
    string sql = "INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_PK, MY_VALUE) " +
    "SELECT SEQ_MY_TABLE.NEXTVAL MY_PK, MY_VALUE FROM ( " +
    "SELECT 0 MY_VALUE UNION ALL " +
    "SELECT 1 MY_VALUE) " +
    "RETURNING MY_PK BULL COLLECT INTO : RETURN_IDS";
    using(var manager = myFactory.CreateDbManager()) // Initializes the connection and encapsulates ADO objects
    manager.SetCommand(sql);
    var cmd = (OracleCommand)manager.Command;
    cmd.ArrayBindCount = 2;
    var p = new OracleParameter();
    p.DbType = DbType.Int64;
    p.ParameterName = "RETURN_IDS";
    p.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
    p.CollectionType = OracleCollectionType.PLSQLAssociativeArray;
    p.Size = 2*sizeof (long);
    cmd.Parameters.Add(p);
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    var result = (Oracle.DataAccess.Types.OracleDecimal[])p.Value;
    But I have an error ORA-00933 that indicates that the query is wrong at "RETURNING MY_PK".

  • Row chaining in table with more than 255 columns

    Hi,
    I have a table with 1000 columns.
    I saw the following citation: "Any table with more then 255 columns will have chained
    rows (we break really wide tables up)."
    If I insert a row populated with only the first 3 columns (the others are null), is a row chaining occurred?
    I tried to insert a row described above and no row chaining occurred.
    As I understand, a row chaining occurs in a table with 1000 columns only when the populated data increases
    the block size OR when more than 255 columns are populated. Am I right?
    Thanks

    dyahavYesterday, I stated this on the forum "Tables with more than 255 columns will always have chained rows." My statement needs clarification. It was based on the following:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28318/schema.htm#i4383
    "Oracle Database can only store 255 columns in a row piece. Thus, if you insert a row into a table that has 1000 columns, then the database creates 4 row pieces, typically chained over multiple blocks."
    And this paraphrase from "Practical Oracle 8i":
    V$SYSSTAT will show increasing values for CONTINUED ROW FETCH as table rows are read for tables containing more than 255 columns.
    Related information may also be found here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96524/c11schem.htm
    "When a table has more than 255 columns, rows that have data after the 255th column are likely to be chained within the same block. This is called intra-block chaining. A chained row's pieces are chained together using the rowids of the pieces. With intra-block chaining, users receive all the data in the same block. If the row fits in the block, users do not see an effect in I/O performance, because no extra I/O operation is required to retrieve the rest of the row."
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B14340_01/data.htm
    "For a table with several columns, the key question to consider is the (average) row length, not the number of columns. Having more than 255 columns in a table built with a smaller block size typically results in intrablock chaining.
    Oracle stores multiple row pieces in the same block, but the overhead to maintain the column information is minimal as long as all row pieces fit in a single data block. If the rows don't fit in a single data block, you may consider using a larger database block size (or use multiple block sizes in the same database). "
    Why not a test case?
    Create a test table named T4 with 1000 columns.
    With the table created, insert 1,000 rows into the table, populating the first 257 columns each with a random 3 byte string which should result in an average row length of about 771 bytes.

    "Tables with more than 255 columns will always have chained rows +(row pieces)+ if a column beyond column 255 is used, but the 'table fetch continued row' statistic +may+ only increase in value if the remaining row pieces are found in a different block."

    Paraphrase misspelled the view name "V$SYSSTAT", corrected a couple minor typos, and changed "will" to "may" in the closing paragraph as this appears to be the behavior based on the test case.

  • Display all the rows in the table with Varray

    I created two Varrays
    CREATE TYPE phone_varray AS VARRAY(3) OF NUMBER(10);
    CREATE TYPE email_varray AS VARRAY(3) OF varchar2(30);
    CREATE TABLE ee
    (id number(2),
    phone phone_varray);
    now i inserted some rows into ee table and displayed it as:
    SELECT e1.id,e2.COLUMN_VALUE"PHONE NO" FROM ee e1,TABLE(e1.phone) e2;
    ID PHONE NO
    1 1111111111
    1 2222222222
    1 3333333333
    1 1111111111
    1 2222222222
    1 4444444444
    4 1111
    4 2222
    4 33334
    5 1111
    5 2222
    5 33334
    Then i altered the table with email_varray
    desc ee;
    Name Null? Type
    ID NUMBER(2)
    PHONE PHONE_VARRAY
    EMAIL EMAIL_VARRAY
    I updated some rows:
    update ee e1 set email=email_varray('aasda') where id=4;
    and when i try to display the table data by:
    SELECT id,e2.*,e3.* from ee e1,TABLE(e1.phone) e2,TABLE(e1.email) e3;
    it only displays the rows that contain all the details like
    ID COLUMN_VALUE COLUMN_VALUE
    4 1111 aasda
    4 2222 aasda
    4 33334 aasda
    and not all the rows that are in the table which have id and phone and email as NULL
    need help to display all the rows in the table.

    will this work for you ?
    SELECT e1.id,e2.COLUMN_VALUE as PHONE_NO, null as email FROM ee e1,TABLE(e1.phone) e2
    union
    SELECT e1.id,null,e3.column_value as email from ee e1, TABLE(e1.email) e3;

  • DB Adapters inserting data into 2 diff tables of same database giving issue

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle soa suite 11g BPEL.
    I need to insert data in 4 different tables of same Oracle database with the requirement of rollback all data if error occurs anywhere.
    I have configured the DB adapater as XA enabled on console .
    In code:-
    I am using 2 DBAdapters to insert data one by one in 2 diff tables of same DB (using INSERT ONLY operations). Before each invoke activity i am using a transformation activity to prepare the input variable of the DBAdapter.
    When i run this code i get below error:-
    Exception occured when binding was invoked. Exception occured during invocation of JCA binding: "JCA Binding execute of Reference operation 'insert' failed due to: DBWriteInteractionSpec Execute Failed Exception. insert failed. Descriptor name: [DBINS_DIANA.XxontPoiHdrsIface]. Caused by java.sql.BatchUpdateException: ORA-02049: timeout: distributed transaction waiting for lock . ". The invoked JCA adapter raised a resource exception. Please examine the above error message carefully to determine a resolution. </summary>
    If i use a wait activity between the 2 invokes i get the data inserted fine , but that means the transactions between inserts would be committed which i want to be rollback fully in case of any errors.
    Can anyone have a clue what is wrong here?
    Thanks
    Shivani
