Querying a Supersession Table for an HTML5/Javascript Windows Store App

Hi Guys,
I'm fairly new to SQL and am just setting up a Windows 8 app using an Azure SQL server. The issue I have is looking up a part number supersession and getting the latest number. One part number can have multiple supersessions (ie (oldest number) RTC5756
> STC8572 > STC3765 > STC9150 > STC9191 > SFP500160 (latest number) )
The data I am supplied monthly has both the superseded items and the supersession information in both columns and is not easy to decipher - for example:
Supersessions Table
RTC5756 | STC9191
SFP500160 | STC9191
STC9191 | STC2951
STC3765 | STC9191
STC8572 | STC9191
STC9150 | STC9191
Source Table
SFP500160 | KIT BRAKE LINING | 58.02
The newest part number is kept in a separate table - called "source" - which in this instance is SFP500160.
I need access to the latest part number but also to the part's previous numbers, due to the fact that some people may still be stocking them as an old part number and for them to search by. Is there an easy and efficient way of doing both a lookup for the supersessions
and a join on the two tables to minimize the queries on the database?
What I'm really trying to achieve is, a user inputs a part number, ie STC8572 (the customer does not necessarily have access to or know any of the other part numbers associated with this number), the lookup table then checks for supersessions of that part
number - in this case:
(oldest number) RTC5756 > STC8572
> STC3765 > STC9150 > STC9191 > SFP500160 (newest number)
The query then returns the newest number as the number to be used, along with the part information, which it knows based on the 'source' table, with a message such as 'The part number you have entered has been superseded to SFP500160'.
The query will also return all of the previous numbers associated with that number, to be consumed by the application for cross
reference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If I need to make anything clearer, please let me know.
Thanks

Hi Vishal,
Thanks for your reply.
My two tables are as follows:
supersessions (table)
supersession_a  |  supersession_b
RTC5756
SFP500160
STC9191
STC3765
STC8572
STC9191
STC9191
STC9191
STC2951
STC9191
STC9191
STC9150
source (table)
partnumber
description
price
SFP500160
KIT BRAKE LINING
52.28
(where SFP500160 is the latest part number)
For example, customer enters part number STC8572 in to a search.
The database queries the "source" table, where of course it is not found because the "source" table only stores the latest part number.
(oldest number) RTC5756 > STC8572 >
STC3765 > STC9150 > STC9191 > SFP500160 (newest number)
I would like the database to query the "supersessions" database at the same time, to see if the part number exists in the supersession stream. If it does, then query all of the supersession numbers linked to that part number, until it finds a match in the "source"
table - or if the part number being used to search is the latest part number and therefore the number in the "source" table - in this case SFP500160, then return the "source" data related to that number. In both instances, I need the supersession data linked
to the part and the source data returned with the query.
If a customer enters an old part number, I would like them them to be informed that it has been superseded and that they will therefore be using the latest number to stock their part under. I need the supersession data for a) as a way of pushing the user to
the latest part number and b) being able to consume all of the supersession numbers that the query has returned for a reference in the application as a list for the user.
In the automotive industry, sometimes parts get superseded while they are still stocked under an old part number. Hence needing to eliminate the confusion, say for example, if a part was automatically stocked as an SFP500160 because of a supersession update
(which happens monthly) and was still on the shelf as an STC9191.
This, obviously, is an example using only one part number to demonstrate the supersession chain, when in fact there are 120,000 part numbers to check using this method.
I hope this adds some clarity to what I am trying to achieve.

  • Talking to C# based WinRT components that contain UI features like XAML based user controls from a JavaScript based Windows Store app

Can you create a WinRT component written in C# that consists of a library of XAML based controls and then used those controls within a Windows Store app using WinJS or via a JS Cordova plugin for Windows 8.1 & WP8.1?
Is this possible or can you only use a C# based WinRT component that contains a library of XAML controls in XAML/C# based Windows Store apps?
My understanding is that a C# based WinRT component containing non-UI code (i.e. no XAML controls) can be used in a Windows Store app written C#, VB.NET, JavaScript or VC++, but not sure if that principle would work with XAML controls
wrapped via WinRT types. In theory a XAML control is a C# class, so could work, but not sure how would JS code read that and then launch for example a page or user control from/into its HTML based UI?
    Sandip Ahluwalia

Right. The code in your app is C# code, but the actual Xaml controls (like the rest of the Windows Runtime) are native code. They are projected into each language (C#, VB, C++ in the case of Windows.UI.Xaml) in a way that appears natural for that
language and the interop layer is hidden.
You could expose a Xaml control in a Windows Runtime Component written in any of C#, VB, and C++ to an app written in any of C#, VB, and C++, and the control would appear as a normal C#, VB, or C++ runtime class. This won't
work for Xaml controls in JavaScript, since the HTML window doesn't have the Xaml hosting infrastructure, but for non-UI code you can write a WRC in C#, VB, or C++ and it will appear as a normal JavaScript class to a JavaScript app.

  • How to use offline map for windows store app using c# and xaml

    Hi friends,
I want to integrate offline map in my windows store app but I am not able to achieve that.
    Below is my requirement:
When a user wants to go somewhere where she/he doesn't want to use wi-fi or mobile data but wants to use map to assist her/him to roam around. For this I want to give an option to download the map for that region/area before leaving for that place and there
she/he can use map even in offline.
Is it possible that I can achieve this using Bing maps?
If yes then tell me the processes to follow.
If no then can I achieve this using "Here" or by using any other API or by tweaking any way?
Note: I am showing maps in case of online and user can search for directions or any places in that. I am using Bing maps for that.
    Thanks,
    S.Sandeep

    Hi Sandeepmsandy,
There is no available code sample for this scenario. You may write your own.
Step 1: Get pdf URL from sqlite database. Please refer to the following MSDN blog and see a code sample.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robertgreen/archive/2012/11/13/using-sqlite-in-windows-store-apps.aspx. Note, you need to retarget the project to 8.1 and then get two sqlite packages from NuGet before building this sample.
Step 2: Use some special classes to get file from serer.
HttpWebRequest can help download small pdf files. For more information to see
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/de96a61c-e089-4595-8349-612be5d23ee6/download-file-with-httpwebrequest?forum=winappswithcsharp. It’s easy for use, but if you want to download the larger or many files, it’s recommend to use
BackgroundTransfer namespace. The classes in this namespace provide a power way to transfer files in the background. See a code sample from MSND.
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Background-Transfer-Sample-d7833f61.

  • How can we get a url for a "Meet Now" conference call from within the Windows Store App?

    Hi,
Is it possible to get the url for the current meeting / new "Meet Now" call from within the Windows Store app?
You have the option of inviting your current Lync contacts, but I don't see a way of giving a URL to clients that would launch Lync on their device, or take them to the web app.
I can see how to get the link using the Outlook plugin, for pre-scheduled meetings. Is this link always the same and the one that should be used for an impromptu "Meet Now" meeting? It would still be good to know how to get this URL from within
the store app so I can tell clients where to get it.
Some people may be on Windows RT devices and not have access to the plugin in Outlook, and want to start a meeting at short notice and then invite others via email or pasting a link to them elsewhere.
    Any help appreciated.
If I have answered your question, please mark it as the correct answer. If I have provided helpful information, please mark it as so.

    Hi,
Agree with Holger, I check on my Lync Windows Store app and can't find the meeting URL as well.

Im searching for a calendar control for windows store apps
something like this, that when i select a day i get to see information about that day , like meetings and such
is there anything of sorts ? , free if possible.

    Hi Thought2,
Sorry, as far as I know currently there is no in-build calendar control, but there are quite lot of third party calendar control developed by communities also companies, try to search with key words: "windows store app calendar control", you would
    be able to find some.

  • Windows Store App can't verify the server is trusted for your sign in address

I am aware this is (or was) an issue for the Lync 2013 client as well, as per
    http://terenceluk.blogspot.ie/2013/04/signing-into-lync-2013-client-presents.html
This does seem to be fixed at this stage though, because after adding lyncdiscoverinternal.SIPdomain.com the Lync 2013 client does not prompt about the certificate.
However, the Windows Store app does prompt "Lync can't verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?" This presumably boils down to the same issue where our Lync 2013 Frontend is lyncfrontend.internal.domain.com which
    does not match the SIPdomain.com.
Is there a fix for this other than forcing lyncdiscoverinternal to the reverse proxy? The TrustModelData registry key only applies to the Lync 2013 full client so does not affect the Windows Store app.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi wagenveld,
Create the DNS records as below:
    Internal SIPdomain.com zone:
    DNS A record:
    lyncdiscoverinternal.SIPdomain.com-> sip.SIPdomain.com
    DNS A record:

  • Which Nuget Package for Azure Service Bus can I use for Windows Store apps?

    Hi,
I want to use the Azure Service Bus Topics. I have an app that needs to subscribe to the Service bus Topic. The Nuget-Package for Azure Service Bus is not applicable for Windows Store Apps (I get an error during install), thats why I used the Windows Azure
Service Bus managed for Windows Store. Unfortunatelly this API throws a Serialization Exception when I create a subscription. What can I do to use the Service bus in Windows store apps?
Thats how I try to create the subscription:
    await Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Messaging.Subscription.CreateAsync(TOPIC_NAME, SUBSCRIPTION_NAME, CONNECTION_STRING);

Yes this is the one I used.
But creating a subscription with the code above throws the SerializationException mentioned in this question:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/de-DE/1acb887e-d5f1-4bfb-8eb9-f8ce7390ae7b/microsoftwindowsazuremessagingsubscriptioncreateasync-throws-an?forum=servbus&prof=required.
Maybe I do something wrong? Do I Need to do something before creating the subscription?
I haven't found any sample that shows how you can subscribe to a Topic and receive Messages using the restricted Api for winrt :(
    Any suggestions?

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined

  • Local Database Options for Windows Store Apps

I am looking to create an application that will allow for entry of data from a user and write it to a database file system locally within the application.
I am new to Windows Store type app development and are a senior developer for ERP systems for the enterprise which have rich databases and client apps that are built with a MVC type configuration. The app communicates with the database which is on the DB
server (Oracle, IBM DB2, or SQL Server) and writes to the file system.
For my startup applications I would like to have a simple CRUD type interface that writes to a DB that is part of the application and does not require a connection to a file server or DB server.  Internally I would like something with a few tables,
etc.. that I can write to and then report from locally.
In the Windows 8x development world, what is the best method and technology to use for Store Apps for this scenario?  What is the best approach?

There is SQLite for Windows RT and Windows Phone.
Search "SQLite" in vs extensions and updates

  • Solution for Windows Store app "projectname.exe" does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point . Error.

    Hi,
I'm developed a blog reader for windows 8 store app. It was perfectly worked before. But suddenly it started to miss behave and I got an
error. No other errors were there other than that.
    Error
Program c:\Users\.........\Desktop\Blog_Reader\Blog_Reader\obj\Release\intermediatexaml\Blog_Reader.exe' does not contain a static 'Main'
method suitable for an entry point.
    C:\Users\..........\Desktop\Blog_Reader\Blog_Reader\CSC    Blog_Reader
But I found the solution while I fixing it.
Solution for that is like below.
Go to your App.Xaml and Right-Click thenGo to Properties
Check whether the Build Action is
    ApplicationDefinition
If not change it to ApplicationDefinition.
Clean the code (solution) and Deploy
    Now the error is fiexed.

  • Best place for images outside of MS Store App?

Newbie question? If multiple Apps share many images, where is the best place to keep them?
There will be hundreds of images in each App - some of them duplicate between Apps. I do not want to house them in the Images folder of the C# source code because they may change as time goes on. I would like to locate them "outside" the App and
retrieve them when necessary if possible.
I tried parking them in a website and accessing them this way:
ImagePath="http://mywebsite.com/Cookbooks/Receipts/English/Pages/Receipt1.1.1.png". But Go Daddy says I cannot house them that way for a MS store App.
So, where is the *best* place to put these images? Website, Web server, OneDrive, Azure, etc. Any other directions for building a scalable and flexible App would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
I think that's depend on your scenario.
you could also use Windows Azure Mobile Services. There's a good Todo app sample on the following site -
    http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/develop/mobile/tutorials/get-started/
Or you can use web service, we can use httpClient to communicate with it.

  • Best Authentication Library for Windows Phone 8.1 & Windows Desktop 8.1 Windows Store apps using Open Connect 1.0

What's the best go forward framework (Web Authentication Broker, WPF, other) to use when authenticating against an Open Connect 1.0 authentication server (that's OpenID + oAuth v2.0)?  My developer says that Web Authentication Broker is not supported
in Windows Desktop 8.1 (so if you can confirm this that would be great also).
We've created a universal app to support Windows Destkop, Tablet, Phone (8.1 and up) and plan to add support for iOS and Android via Xamarin later.
    Your feedback is appreciated.
