Question about konception of a application

Hello,
I'd like to make an application, which would have a lot of forms and where I could very easy add new forms. In JSF every form has own JavaBean and information in faces-config.xml.
I'd like to avoid write for every form a bean and writting data info faces-config.xml.
I wanted to write own VariableResolver, which would take form-data and write them into DB.
However, I don't know how to check if the data are already valid - VariableResolver is called a few times.
I could write a Action, which would be called after submit. These Action would be defined in some class (which would be pretending that it's Bean for this form but it'd not have any getters and setters) and it would write the data into DB.
Does anyone made similar application or have idea for a better solution ? ?

Question about update to iphone application database

Is it possible to preserve and update an iphone application's database when i release an update for the application with a more updated database?

My biggest problem to date has happened today after trying to update the Restaurant Nutrition Application. It completely crashed my iphone, and after trying to do a soft reset, NOTHING. I was able to connect to iTunes by pressing the home botton while connecting to iTunes to do a complete system restore. Everything went fine, till I tried to download some of the applications that had not been synced with iTunes with the exception of Restaurant Nutrition App. since this was the App. that crashed it in the first place. But strangely enough, when I just tried to download a simple game that I loved, (Cannon challenge), Restaurant Nutrition popped up on the screen by itself as if it was trying to download without me even requesting to do so.
This application now has a way of attaching itself even after a system restore when you DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE!! Someone really needs to look into this. It has wasted an entire day of total frustration with my iphone, for NOW, having to do the same thing a second time. ***!? I hope come Sept. 7th, that Apple can restore customer confidence, because each time my iphone 3g crashes, which has happened several times in the past, but never to this degree, I really am beginning to hate this new iphone 3G. I can't rely on it being stable enough when I might actually have to use it......for an emergency phone call, etc.
PLEASE update soooner!

Question about JRE and Swing applications

Hi i trying to make a Swing application whit some clients but one of them tell me that he have a lot of troubles whit java, because someone make an applet for his website and when he upgrade the JRE the applet dont work anymore.
In my case i dont want any applets, i want swing, but a im not sure if
swing uses the JRE and if the application im going to make, may have troubles when they upgrade de JRE.

In general, Java maintains upward compatibility (older code runs in newer Java releases.)
Certain exceptions are made, and each major Java release identifies these. The current document can be read here:

Question about the new notes application?

the new notes application is great but is there anyway to transfer the files off the ipod and view them in word or notepad on your computer as that would be a really useful feature.

I just want to know how the user accounts work. I want to free up extra space on my macbook pro and want to know if the application install twice once into my account and once in the guest account?

No, applications go in the Applications folder at the root of your drive, not in the user folder. User folders only store your data (documents, photos, music, settings files, etc).

EBS 12.1.3: a few questions about cloning

We have EBS 12.1.3 on AIX 7.1.
A few questions about cloning from shared application tier environment to non-shared application tier environment. We have been following "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone [ID 406982.1]"
Source environment (shared app tier):
- Two active application nodes and LB
- One active database and one passive database setup with Oracle Data Guard.
- SSL termination at the load balancer
- PCP implemented
Target environment (non-shared app tier):
- One active application node
- One active database node
- No SSL
- No PCP
After the cloning was completed we noticed the following problems in the target system:
1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.
Workaround:
Modify (with text editor) Application Tier $CONTEXT_FILE as follows.

<sslterminator oa_var="s_enable_sslterminator">#</sslterminator>

If it is working from one browser, then it should not be an EM issue. Have you tried from a different client and see if this works? Have you changed any setting in your IE browser? Please make sure you add the EM URL to the trusted sites list.

you create a WAR file and an EAR file and deploy it as described in the JBOSS documentation. This creates a J2EE application context with the name of the project's J2EE context (open the JDeveloper project properties and check the "J2EE Application" node. This shows you the default J2EE context used when deploying the application. You can change the string to something better if you like.
Then, after deployment you request
localhost:<port>/j2ee_context_path/initial_page.jspx

Important conceptual question about Application Module, Maximum Pool Size

Hello everyone,
We have a critical question about the Application Module default settings (taking the DB connections from a DataSource)
I know that on the Web it is generally suggested that each request must end with either a commit or rollback when executing PL/SQL blocks "directly" on the DB without the framework BC/ViewObject/Entity service intervention.
Now, for some reasons, we started to develop our applications with thinking that each Web Session would reference exactly one DB session (opened by any instance taken from the AM pool) for the whole duration of the session, so that the changes made by each Web session to its DB session would never interfere with the changes made by "other" Web Sessions to "other" DB sessions .
In other words, because of that convincement we often implemented sort of "transactions" that open and close (with either commit or rollback) each DB session not in/after a single HTTP request, but during many HTTP Requests.
As a concrete example think of this scenario:
1. the user presses the "Insert" button. An HTTP request is fired. The action listener is executed and ends up with inserting rows in a table via a PL SQL block (not via the ViewObjects API).
2. no commit or rollback after the above PL/SQL block is done yet.
3. finally the user presses a "Commit" or "Rollback" button, firing the call to the appropriate AM methos.
Those three requests consist of what I called "transaction".
From the documentation it's clear that there is no guarantee that the couple AM istance + DB session is the same during all the requests.
This means that, during step 2, it's possible that another user might reference the same "pending" AM/DbSession for his needs and "steal" somehow the work done via PL/SQL after step 1. (This happens because sessions taken by the pool are always rolled back by default.)
Now my question is:
Suppose we set the "Maximum Pool Size" parameter to very a great number (always inferior to the maximum number of concurrent users):
Is there any guarantee that all the requests will be isolated in that case?
I hope the problem is clear.

If I am right, from all your answers about resource avaiability, this means that even supposing the framework is able to always give us the same AM instance back from the AM pool (by following the session-affinity criterias), there is, however, no "connection affinity" with the connections from the DataSource. This means that the "same AM instance" might take the "a new DB connection", if necessary, from the connection pool of the DataSource. If that happens, that could give us the same problems as taking "a new AM instance" (that is, not following session-affinity) from the beginning, since each time an a new connection is taken (either via a new AM instance or via the same AM instance plus a new DB connection), the corresponding DB session is rolle back by default, clearing all the pending transactions we might have performed before with direct PL/SQL calls bypassing the AM services during the life cycle of our application, so that the new HTTP request will have a clean DB session to start to work with.

Question about bundling application in Netbeans

My question is regarding bundling an application in netbeans? At present I have my application all working fine when I build and clean or run the application within Netbeans.
Sweet so far! However the standalone JAR that is created each time when I run or build / clean my app does not work. OK I found the problem why the JAR does not work. But what
I am not sure about is how to do the following in Netbeans?
See the problem is that my application reads in a small file containing core application information for my programme upon start up. How do I get Netbeans to recognise this file and
create the appropiate path under the "dist" folder each time I do a NEW build / clean or run my app within Netbeans? Is there a location where I can perform this setting in Netbeans?
Or do I have to modify some file generated by Netbeans?

I have few questions about application server architecture�
I have a task to build a server application which will do the following: Clients (special java clients) will connect to it and send some data for further processing on server side. Chunks of data will be relatively small but they will take a lot of time for processing (it is ok that it will be quite slow).
Also server will run some sort of �database� where all clients� working data will be stored. So, in case a client loses its data he/she is always able to download it from the server.
For me it seems, like server will consist of the following components:
1. �Reception�. This part will be responsible for all client-communication procedures.
2. �Data storage�. This part will simply store all clients� data and provide some API interface for clients through �reception� to manage it (add/get/delete and so on).
3. �Processor�. Some sort of dummy-sophisticated module. It will take some input data from �data storage� when it receives order for this and process it. �Processor� will have two states: �busy� which means �processor� processing some data and �available� which means �processor� ready to process new data.
4. �Manager�. This part will always check �data storage� for new data and �processor� for availability. When �processor� and new data are available �manager� will make an order for �processor� to take new data from �data storage� and process it.
So, my question is the following: Which technology and approaches I should use to realize my plan?
I think that I can make �reception� as a Session Bean, but I don�t know yet, what are the best for the rest, for example �manager� and �processor�. I was thinking about writing my own application server (and I can do it), but I would like to learn j2ee technologies, so I think it is a perfect chance for me (I read a lot about j2ee before I wrote this post, but all examples have only �account�-�bill�-�money transfer� I think it is quite far away from reality or I am doing something wrong ;-)!
p.s. I am thinking about using JBoss as an Application Server. I tested it and wrote some tests. They work and run fast enough, so I like it. Moreover it has module architecture.

I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”… If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often! Several questions about Application Security

I have several questions about Application Security and perhaps I need a few tips...
I have a lot of users in a few groups which have access to my application! And the different groups should have only access to their pages.
In my application I use trees to navigate through the application.
So my idea is that i display different trees for the different user groups and restrict the user to access the URL....so the user can only see and contact "their" pages.
I know how to create the logic behind the trees, but how can I create the restricted URL access...
The "No URL Access" in the Session State Protection can not be used, because I use a lot of links in reports and HTML regions.
Is there another way to solve that?
But I am unsure if that is a "good" solution for my problem!
What do you think about that?
Am I going to do that too complicated?
Could that be done by authentication or authorization?
(By the way, I do not understand the differences between authentication and authorization. Can anyone help?)

I try the Access Control List and I think that is a very nice feature! Really good!
But now I am wondering, how I can create more privileges?
So that I have a few "end-user-roles" and then I can choose who have access to a page and who not!
Does anybody know how to do that?

Question about managing application licenses together with netboot

So far I had made no experience with an MacOSX Server netboot configuration but we plan to introduce it in some weeks. Therefore we are "wondering" how management/assignment of application licenses is working in a netboot configuration. Normally in a local MacOSX configuration licenses for application are in generally assigned on the application (some are bound to a certain user name, others to the CPU ID) and is valid for all users login to the same computer. How and at which time are application licenses (for example MS Office 2004, Adobe Acrobat etc.) assigned in a netboot environment?

I have 15 individual Photoshop serials. I want to run Photoshop off a NetBoot image for 15 simultaneous users. Can I install one serial on the image, and allow 15 users to open Photoshop simultaneously. What if I want to install the image on 20 machines, but only 15 users will ever use Photoshop simultaneously.
There is a technical answer and a legal answer to the question. I don't know if there is a 'right' answer since multi-user installations of titles that are technically possible under NetBoot may not be allowed legally under the user license agreement you committed to on breaking the seal on the software. And these agreements are different for different countries.
Here's the technial answer. Sometime before OSX server 10.0, when Apple introduced netboot technology, developers were advised not to perform network scans checking for duplicate serial numbers when aps start up.
In practice this means you can install software title on your image, activate with a serial number, and it will not conflict with the other identical versions of the same application on other images on the network.
FileMaker Pro is the only software I am aware of that doesn't play by these rules, altthough it no longer checks when the applicaton starts, but when any FMPro network activity is started.
Here's the leagl answer. It depends on the title and the country you are in. The legality is definded under the eulas for the titles concerned. I don't know if the leaglity has ever been tested in a court of law in any country in this context.
The easy way to do the right thing for some titles it to purchase a multi-user serial number, ie. a single number which will work for 5 or 10, 20, 50... etc. users. Fore example, FileMaker has a volume licensing serial number which I beleieve can be purchased in increments of 10 users. However, not all titles offer this option, though, and it's difficult if you need 12 copies and have to buy 20.
Sassafras software http://www.sassafras.com/ sells Keyserver, which may be an appropriate solution. Keyserver tracks installations and authenticates serial numbers to ensure no more than the licensed number of copies can be run at the same time.
