Question about PCI 7830r

I have a PCI 7830r board. I need to output a sinewave voltage output.I saw several examples using buffered DMA output to do that. But in FPGA Wizard, in the step of choosing time engines, there is only " Buffered DMA input", no "Buffered DMA output" can be chosen. Is that a software problem or something else? My FPGA dirver is Ni-RIO 2.4.1.
Great thanks!

Hi 51high,
There's an example program named "Sine Generator - R Series.lvproj". You could find this at Help>>Find Examples... Once the NI Example Finder is launched, go to the "Search" tab and type "Sine Generator". Double click on the project name to open it.
This example uses the sine wave generator VI in the FPGA library. I think that using this VI is the most straight forward way to generate a sine wave.
Hope this helps,
Cheers!

  • Basic questions about PCI-DIO-96

    Hi
I am trying to write code to control a digital I/O board for the first time.
I have a legacy board, PCI-DIO-96, as the code implies, it is a PCI digital I/O boiard with 96 I/O channels
My first question is, what would be the drivers and development platform I should download for this board?
I am planning to write my code in C++.
The second question is, I am trying to write a very simple application to drive 96 solenoid valves through the board.
Basically I need to use the board in output mode only.  No data gathering here.
The application basically needs to open and close these valves  for a specified number of milliseconds.  So basically,
I would be sending either 0 or 1 through the output channels, that's
it.    If I send a "1" signal through the board, does
    that
"toggle" the channel, meaning the channel will keep sending "1" through the ouput until I send another signal, or do I need
to send the "1" signal every few milliseconds to simulate a constant "1" signal?
Does anyone have code samples or know where I can find code samples illustrating this simple case?
    It would be greatly appreciated.
I realize these are very basic questions, but I am new to hardware programming and I am on a deadline.
    Thank  you
    Kiko

    Hi Kiko,
Great to see that you are asking questions here first, you definitely came to the right place.
Since you are starting with a clean slate as far as knowing how to use this board we can start off on the right foot.
Download the latest version of the drivers for your board.  You can find the drivers here: NI-DAQmx Version 7.5 for Windows 2000/NT/XP
After you have downloaded the drivers, power down the computer,
insert your board, and power it back up.  The board should now be
recognized and the drivers will install similarly to any new hardware
    would in Windows.
Now it's just a matter of learning how to use the commands that you need to get started.
I would recommend starting in the example files.  You can find
some excellent examples that should do almost exactly what you are
trying to do by looking in this path:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\DAQmx ANSI C\Digital\Generate Values
Look for the example that best represents what it is you are trying to
do.  You will notice that all of the examples have a general flow
to how they call the board.
Create a Task and Define what that task is meant to do
Set the configuration for how exactly that task will operate
Read/Write various values until a condition is met
    Close the Task
Error Check all operations to assure that everything is working properly
It's really not all that difficult and should you run into any problems or errors don't forget to search ni.com or the forums to see if others have run into similar issues to what you are facing.
Regarding how the states for digital lines work.  The short answer
is that if you set a digital line to high it will stay high until you
set it back to low and vice versa.  For more details on everything
digital check out our Digital Fundamentals page.
    Best of luck!

As release date of AMD.ATI new videocards with PCI Express 2.0 (2950 serie) gets near then these questions and answers may become important...

    Officially, P35 & ICH9(R) does NOT support PCIe 2.0
But the P35 chipset actually supports the PCI-Express 2.0 specifications ...
Anyway, to be out of troubles, you should consider an upgrade to X38.

  • Question about setup_MITE in the PCI-MIO-16E-1

I have a quick question about setup_MITE in the PCI-MIO-16E-1. In one of the manuals, it states that if you're using Dell Optiplex GX series for our hardware configuration, is it true we need to re-write the MITE functions to correlate with the hardware? Please if you can clarify what this means, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

  • Some questions about configuration in MAX.

    Hello,everyone!
I have some questions about configuration in MAX(I am a jackaroo for motion control development),I hope I can get your help.
    I use PCI-7344+UMI-7764+Servo amplifier+Servo motor,my MAX version is 4.2 and I use NI-Motion7.5
    My question as following:
    1,In Axis Configuration,for motor type,why I must select stepper but not servo?my motor is servo motor!If I select Servo,my motor can't run,I don't know why.
If I select stepper, though motor can work but I can't test encoder in MAX.
    2,In Stepper settings,for stepper loop mode,why I must select open-loop but not close-loop?If I select close-loop,the servo motor doesn't work too.
3,If I want my two servo motors run at different velocity,How shoud I do?It seems I just can set the same velocity in MAX for my two servo motors.
My English is poor,Pls pardon me!I come from China.

    Hi,Jochen,
Thank you for your kindly help!
The manufacturer of the drive and motor that I am using now is Japan SANYO DENKI,drive type is RS1A01AA,motor type is R2AA06020FXP00.
And I use position control mode, thehe encoder's counts per revolution is 131072.I set the electronic gear ratio to 1:1 for drive.
Now,I can use Close-Loop to control the motor but still has some problems. When I configure it to run in closed loop mode, the motors behave strangely and never move to the target position. When I configure it to run in closed loop mode, the motors behave strangely and never move to the target position. The detail situation is as following
    1,Motor can't run.
2, Or motor moves to a position, then moves in the same direction agian and eventually stops.
Except for the  two points mentioned above,"Following Error" is  occured frequently,I don't know why.
I am still not clear why I must set the motor type be stepper in MAX .
And I have another question:what the relationship between the steps and the counts? They have the proportion relations?I notice that there are a section said like this in help document: For proper closed-loop and p-command operation, steps per revolution/counts per revolution must be in the range of 1/32,767 < steps/counts < 32,767. An incorrect counts to steps ratio can result in failure to reach the target position and erroneous closed-loop stepper operation.
I am verry sorry I have too many questions!
I am very appreciate for your kingly help! Thanks again!

  • [SOLVED] Question about CPU temperature

    Hi everybody,
I just want to ask a question about "standard" CPU temperatures because my laptop (a Dell Vostro 3700) is permanently hot with the fans on even when I am not doing anything special.
I have CPU freq scaling active with the conservative governor, and I use Gnome Shell 3.2 with an nVidia using the nouveau driver.
Here are "stable" temperatures while writing this post:
    # sensors
    acpitz-virtual-0
    Adapter: Virtual device
    temp1: +72.5°C (crit = +103.0°C)
    nouveau-pci-0100
    Adapter: PCI adapter
    temp1: +78.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +110.0°C)
    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Core 0: +73.0°C (high = +95.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
    Core 2: +73.0°C (high = +95.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
And this is the output of mpstat
    # mpstat -P ALL
    Linux 3.1.6-1-ARCH (fm) 01/04/2012 _x86_64_ (4 CPU)
    10:16:50 PM CPU %usr %nice %sys %iowait %irq %soft %steal %guest %idle

The fan, of course, is full speed (very annoying)
I think that these temperatures are quite high, but I don't know what's really causing all this heating because my laptop is basically idle.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks.

  • Quick (and urgent) Question about Intel G5's

Just a quick question about the new intel G5's.
I currently have bunch of software for my PPC G5 which is a Dual 2ghz. Software includes Adobe CS2, Macromedia Studio, Quark 6, etc, etc.
If I purchase the new intel mac, would I be able to use the same software? or would I be forced to purchase a whole new set of everything I currently have?
If the software will work on the intel G5, would it perform at the same rate/better than how it performs now on my PPC g5?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Rosetta:
Most of the time you get a real 'hit' when a program first opens that is PPC. Very sluggish. They will require and use more memory than otherwise, too.

Comparison Mac Models shows scores of all models. So there is 2x as much or more processing power, bandwidth, better video, as well as disk drives. A 'base' configuration would be 4-6GB RAM.
And there are differences, more than between G4 and G5.

    BigBen,
I'll answer your questions here point by point (for clarity).
) No, that won't be possible. A line input is only stereo, so all you'll receive signal-wise is just a stereo stream. You'll need a coaxial or optical input to get that signal to the card (only available on the Platinum dri'ves).
    2) In theory that could work, yes, the connections are there. That isn't something we would have tested (or support), though.

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum - JPW2 connection essential? Also, question about diagLEDs

I've been running a K9N2 SLI Platinum with a Phenom 9950BE and 2 Geforce 9800GT video cards for half a year now, running as stable as any computer could and I couldn't be happier. However, there's one thing that I've always had a question about - the molex connection on the board labeled JPW2. The manual says that JPW2 is "used to provide power to stable the operation of graphics card", but using the PCI-E connectors on the card appears to be adqeuate to running a stable system.
In regards to this though, am I running the risk of an underpowering my motherboard not having JPW2 plugged in? The 24-pin and 8-pin power connectors on the board are of course plugged in and my concern is merely (hopefully!) academic at this point, but I'm just curious if not having power running through JPW2 would cause any problems down the line. My components are power hogs and I believe my power supply is up to it, but I'd love it if someone wiser than I could indulge my curiousity.
Also, my diagnostic LEDS are reading something other than four green solid lights in normal operation (successful POST, Windows loaded and running). If you were to view the motherboard correctly mounted in the case, the order of the lights are: [G][R][R][G]. The manual refers to this as "BIOS Sign On - This will start showing information about logo, processor brand name, etc..." which is as incredibly unhelpful as it can be when it comes to this sort of thing. I state again that this doesn't effect normal operation - it's just another thing that I'm curious about.
Thank you for helping me put my mind to rest!

Usually not. The lane configuration is generally always the primary 16X by itself, the other slot is 8X regardless if the primary slot is not used. Not that big a performance hit anyway with the 8X.

  • A simple question about DAQ data sampling

    Hi all:
Now I meet a very basic question about DAQ sampling.  I am using NI PCI-6040E DAQ card, SCXI-1001 chasis, SCXI-1102, SCXI1300 terminal block, and SCXI1160 relay module.
I am not sure , is it possible if I want to test a voltage (1 volt) on a resistor. Now I am connecting the Ch0+ to resistor+ (24 volt), and connecting Ch0- to resistor-(23 volt). So the voltage between resistor+ and resistor- should be 1volt.  Actually, It is working at the first, but after I want to test 9 channels based on this connection. The Measurement & Automation can't read data from the DAQ card. (when I test it by multimeter, I can get the voltage data on the Ch0+ and Ch0- of SCXI1300 terminal block).
That's strange, does anybody know what' s wrong about it?/
    Thanks a lot

    Hi hanwei,
According to the specifications of the PCI 6040E (page 3), the input signal and common mode voltage should never exceed 11V from ground.  I believe this is the reason you are able to measure the potential of a battery but not the 24V signal (even though the differential value is only 1V).

  • Questions about installing a large internal hard drive

    Hello all,
I recently bought a Seagate 250GB internal hard drive for my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics). I intend to install it alongside my old 20GB drive. I have a couple of questions about installing it:
    • What kind of PCI card do I need in order to use the full capacity of the drive?
    • I'm considering partitioning the drive and installing Debian Linux on one partition. Is it possible that Debian won't recognize the PCI card?
    • Is it possible to connect (RAID?) the old and new drives together so that they appear as one big 270GB drive? Is this a good idea?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my old drive onto the new one? I'd like an exact copy so that I don't have to reinstall the system and everything else; can Carbon Copy Cloner do that?
Thanks for any help and advice!
Power Mac G4 - AGP graphics   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   768 MB RAM

    • What kind of PCI card do I need in order to use the
    full capacity of the drive?
If the drive is an SATA drive you need an SATA controller. If an IDE/ATA drive you need an IDE controller.
    • I'm considering partitioning the drive and
installing Debian Linux on one partition. Is it
possible that Debian won't recognize the PCI card?
You should check the Hardware Compatibility List for Debian against your potential mac compatible purchases. You might also get some good information from Yellow Dog Linux compatibility lists.
    • Is it possible to connect (RAID?) the old and new
drives together so that they appear as one big 270GB
drive? Is this a good idea?
If you want to stripe the 2 dives together your overall performance will be slowed down by the slower of the two drives. For example, If you have one 5400rpm drive and another 7200rpm drive, the RAID will be bogged down by the slower drive so you wont get the full benefit of the lower latencies of the 7200. You will still get some of the faster transfer times, just not the lower latencies.
Wether or not it's a good idea depends on your personal needs. Do you need a drive that can can move very large files to and from memory quickly (bandwidth) or a drive that can locate and serve up the files quickly (latency)?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my
old drive onto the new one? I'd like an exact copy
so that I don't have to reinstall the system and
everything else; can Carbon Copy Cloner do that?
CCC should work fine for you. You could also use the command line asr utility.

My HP, purchased in June 2012, died on Saturday.  I was working in recently installed Photoshop, walked away from my computer to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was blank.  When I turned it on, I got a Windows Error Recovery message.  The computer was locked and wouldn't let me move the arrow keys up or down and hitting f8 didn't do anything.
I'm not happy with HP.  Any suggestions?

  • Questions about using the Voice Memos app

I'm currently an Android user, but will be getting an iPhone 6 soon. My most used app is the voice memos app on my Android phone. I have a couple questions about the iPhone's built-in voice memos app.
-Am I able to transfer my voice memos from my Android phone to my iPhone, so my recordings from my Android app will show up in the iPhone's voice memos app?
-When exporting voice memos from the iPhone to computer, are recordings in MP3 format? If not, what format are they in?
-In your opinion, how is the recording quality of the voice memos app?

You cannot import your Android voice memos to your iPhone's voice memo app.  You might be able to play the Android memos and have the iPhone pick up the audio and record it.
Here is the writeup about sending voice memos from the iPhone to your computer (from the iPhone User Guide):
    App quality is excellent.
