Question about Run-Time Shortcut Menus example

I am looking at the Run-Time Shortcut Menus.vi that ships with LabVIEW2011. There is an event case "Test List":Mouse Down that does nothing but generate a Val(Sgnl) event for the "Test List" control if the right mouse button was pressed. There is no value change event for that control.
Is there an obscure reason to do that? One thing I have learned about many of the examples is not to strictly use them as examples.

Nevermind - I found the obscure reason. Even though there is not a value change event, generating the value change event is required to change the value on right-click.
At least NI could have documented this in the example

  • Check marks or dynamic items for run-time shortcut menus

    Labview version: 8.0
I'd like to create a run-time shortcut menu for my Xcontrol, that would
allow user to toggle between two states of the control. Is it possible
    to either
    1) dynamically apply check marks to run-time shortcut menus or
    2) dynamically modify the run-time shortcut menu content
    Tomi

    Hi Tomi,
Great question.  Yes, you can do what you want with run-time shortcut menus in LabVIEW 8.0.  If you want to dynamically modify the menu content, you have to do it in the "Shortcut Menu Activation?" event in the facade VI of the XControl.  In the event data for this event is a parameter called "MenuRef" which works with the same menu primitives that have been around since LabVIEW 5 for editing the menu bar at run-time.
With these primitives, you can add/delete/modify menu items to the shortcut menu.  The items that are already in the MenuRef when this event case executes are always the ones that are statically defined, either by LabVIEW or by customizing them.  You do not have control over the state of the items that LabVIEW adds, but you can remove them and add ones with the same text (just with a different tag).  In your case, you would probably want to use the Insert Menu Item primitive to add an item such as "Toggle State".  Give it a tag such as "USER_TOGGLE_STATE".  Then you'll want to use the Set Menu Item Info primitive to set the checkmark for that item based on the state of the XControl.
Then, you'll need to add an event case for the "Shortcut Menu Selection (User)" event so you can handle the item being selected.  Wire the Item Tag parameter from the event data to a case structure and add a case to look for "USER_TOGGLE_STATE".  And in that case, toggle the state of your XControl.  That's all you need to do!
The Dual Mode Thermomter shipping example in <LabVIEW 8.0>\examples\general\xcontrols\Dual Mode Thermometer\Simple Dual Mode Thermometer XControl.lvproj is a simple example of how you can modify the menu and respond to the items selected.  It's a little different than what you want to do, but it might help you to look at it.
Good luck!  Let me know if you have questions.

  • Application's run-time shortcut menus don't work on local drive.

The run-time menus in my application don't work, unless I run the application from the location where it is built.  This project has an application build specification, and an installer build specification.  The installer specification, copies the app to the local drive.  But the run-time shortcut menus do not work when the app runs.  Nothing happens when I right click on the control.  However if I run the same app from the network drive, where the application build spec builds it, it runs fine.  When I have the application build spec build the app directly to the local drive, it works fine.  The exe, ini and aliase files are identical.  Why does this app run differently depending on which drive it's on?  How can I fix it so the run-time shortcut menus work on the target machine?  Any ideas?

Hello, I believe that when you create a custom run-time menu it gets saved to a file.  My guess is that you are not including this file as part of the build specification for the application.  The file likely exists in the build directory but does not on the target directory which is why it no longer works.  If that does not fix the problem, let me know and I will see if I can figure something else out.

are you talking about the checkmark?
Read the help for "Set Menu Item Info" function and you will notice the "checked" input

  • Is it possible to preserve dynamic run-time shortcut menu updates for a control?

    Hello all,
I have a question about getting control run-time shortcut menus to persist after adding new items.  I am hopeful that I'm simply missing something simple here.
    Known Information
I understand the use of the "Shortcut Menu Activation?" event (for the control of interest) which provides the relevant control's menu reference for use with the menu VIs.  No problems there.
    Problem
I start with a control which has an .rtm file assigned as its run-time shortcut menu.
I then generate new items dynamically using the event/menu mechanism noted above.
The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a way to *preserve* those newly added items (ie. I have to re-create the new items everytime the menu is *activated*).
What I observe is that, unless I add all the items every time the right-click event occurs (in the "Shortcut Menu Activation?" event case), it defaults back to the original .rtm menu state.
    Question
Does anyone know how to either:
get dynamically added menu items to "stick"
perhaps dynamically create (new) and load an .rtm for a *control*
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.  I'm working in LabVIEW 8.6 for this particular project.
    VM

Looking at the second post link, it seems like you are trying to populate 10,000+ shortcut items on the Shortcut Menu for the control. I'm guessing these are tiered, since I don't think all of them would fit on the screen. If they are tiered, have you tried populating only the top level short cuts, and then populating more as the user navigates down the tree?

  • Copy picture of graph to clipboard through run-time shortcut menu

    Hi,
I have following problem. I would like to copy picture of graph to clipboard through graph “run-time shortcut menu”. It’s easy when I want copy exactly what I see. There is an Item Tag: APP_SC_COPY_DATA. That works nice. Try an example1.vi. (Run then right click on the graph...)
But problem is when I want to change the graph appearance before copying (only change the colour of the graph to be more printer-friendly). I have created a subVi with copy of the graph with changed colour. But how to simulate for the graph inside the subVi same runtime shortcut event? How to call APP_SC_COPY_DATA of subVi graph from outside Vi?
I hope I’ve explain it clear.
If you have better method for clipboard copying tell me.

Not sure it is a good idea to be editing VISA resources while the VI is running.  I'm not even sure it's "legal" which might explain why it isn't there.  If all you want to to is be able to change which equipment to talk to, maybe it's best to just to have a VISA resource control and have the user select from there, or maybe a ring control with pre-defined VISA resources.

  • Some questions about a Time Capsule

    Hi!!
I just have a few questions about a Time Capsule, but first let me explain the backgroud to my questions.
I live in a 2 floor house(including a basement) and my bedroom is downstairs. My parents currently have a desktop PC connected to our wireless router and our printer. Me and my step-father both have 13 inch MacBook Pros, and he uses the Mac like a basic computer, so the equipment connected to our PC is good for him. I, on the other hand, use my Mac, iPad and iPhone to their fullest potential. I am a SUPER MEGA NERD when it comes to computers, so I plan on making my bedroom an amazing office at the same time. So I want an AirPrint Enabled printer in my bedroom (Under 100$$) along with a Time Capsule to back up my information, because everyday I look around in the backdoor of my Mac alot, and if I jack anything up (And I cant handle the problem) I would like to restore my Mac to a previous version. So here are my questions:
    1) My bedroom is right underneath our router, so i get GREAT Wi-Fi in my room. If I get a Time Capsule, can I use it in my room to extend my Wi-Fi, and how would that work? Will it extend my wifi under the same name, because I would like my own Wi-Fi (Titled to what I want with my own password)
    2) If I have to create a NEW Wi-Fi network, how would I do that?
    3) Would I need to connect my new printer directly to my ROUTER, or could I connect it to the TIME CAPSULE?
If you don't understand what I'm trying to ask (Even though I feel like it's self-explanatory)
ONE question about the PRINTER: Do any of you have any recommendations for an AirPrint Enabled printer under 100$? Even under-150$ would be okay.
    THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!!

everyday I look around in the backdoor of my Mac alot, and if I jack anything up (And I cant handle the problem) I would like to restore my Mac to a previous version. So here are my questions:
Don't just depend on TM.. use a disk image type utility.. either one of the Mac tools, SuperDuper, CCC, Chronosync or even a linux boot cd (if you have a cd/dvd drive still or via usb can boot) a great tool is Clonezilla.. it will do basically any computer, Mac, Linux, Windows.. and since it boots into its own OS can restore a computer in a flash. Then you can add the incremental changes from TM.
Actually I am surprised you get good wireless as usually directly above or below a router is often the worst spot. Time Capsule cannot extend the wireless of any other router than Apple.. it is a special system and only Apple can join the club. It has bad effect though, if you set the TC to extend wireless it turns off ethernet ports.. which is hugely dumb.
The best arrangement is ethernet to the upstairs.. or EOP adapters. If not then a wireless router that matches the existing unit will generally be better than mixing apple and non-apple.
    2) If I have to create a NEW Wi-Fi network, how would I do that?
    3) Would I need to connect my new printer directly to my ROUTER, or could I connect it to the TIME CAPSULE?
You create a new wireless network by selecting manually the wireless channel and use different wireless name, ssid and security. There are 3 available channels on 2.4ghz.. your existing router will use one or two.. depending on if the setting is 20mhz or 40mhz.. so you need to manually set everything and not use auto.
TC is slow on 2.4ghz cf 5ghz and there are many more channels at 5ghz but not everything can use it.. iphone for instance is 2.4ghz only . whereas ipad can use 5ghz.. most full computers now can use 5ghz.
Buy a wireless network printer. Or alternatively an ethernet network would be also ok but now are more expensive than wireless ones. Network printers are not much more than straight USB and work much better.
I do not use airprint so have nothing to offer.. find the best HP model in your budget.. but others may have had more experience.. I use ethernet connected b/w laser business type HP.. they work great.. but airprint is too recent an innovation for me.

  • Image Run-Time Shortcut Menu

OK, more on the non-standard behavior of Image Controls (in LV 2009 SP1 at least)...
Having had to deal with the fact that one cannot detect a user right click in an Image Control, I figured that maybe I could at least build my own shortcut menu (the one that pops up when you right-click on an object). Not such luck without loosing some functionalities.
If you do so, you loose most items that are available by default at runtime (these are called the application items for any other controls):
    - Palette
    - Save Image...
    - Clear ROI
    - Zoom to Fit
I could rebuild all these functionalities in my custom menu, but:
    1) why should I have to do that?
    2) why do the items above not appear when one opens the default run-time shortcut menu? They do appear at run-time!
    3) why do ALL other shortcut menu items available at edit time (some of which could be handy at run-time) not appear when one opens the default run-time shortcut menu?
    4) At run-time, none of the menu items listed above are returned in the event structure when polling the Shortcut Menu Selection events (either App or User). Why????
    Thanks for reading.

Greg, neither of those lists contain references to issues within Vision Development Module...
If you are looking for a similar style list for Vision, the only location these are currently published is in the release notes for each release, such as here:

  • Question about running explain plan

I tried to run explain plan for a simple query, just to familiarize myself with how to do it. (I have another query that's taking a long time, and I've never run explain plan before). I got an error, googled it, and discovered I had to run the file at @%ORACLE_HOME%\rdbms\admin\utlxplan.sql first, to create the Plan_Table. Well, I tried to run that file and I get the error that I don't have priveleges on the tablespace. This really doesn't surprise me, as my access is read-only. Is there any way around this? I don't know a whole lot about databases, so forgive me if these following questions are dumb, but...
    1) is that file basically trying to create a table (called Plan_Table) within the schema I'm in (the only schema I have access to)?
    2) can my company's DBA run that file for me to create the Plan_Table?

What version of the database are you on?
You can get run-time execution plans from V$SQL_PLAN. You will need permission to read the V$ views. First find your query in V$SQL_PLAN (you can do a text search; putting a comment in like '--my_query' can help), then join to V$SQL_PLAN to find the query plan that that query used - join by the ADDRESS and HASH_VALUE columns.
Otherwise, see if you can get insert/update/delete access on just that one table when your DBA creates it
    Good luck.

  • Two question about running speed in Labiview RT and FPGA

    hi All
Right now I am working on a project, which need to be developed on Labview RT and FPGA
Here I have two quick question.
    1. Why sampling rates of RTD (9217) module is very slow, it is just aroud 1/sec? even I just tried to run Labview example.
    2. We would like to develop another HMI, which can be used for monitoring the program running in CompactRIO.  In my project, i want to use network publish varible to implement this function. but the running speed become very slow, when I put these variable into my codes. (Shown in attachment)

Nope, those modes can be selected when using 9217. Drop an I/O property node to your FPGA block diagram and select correct module from the list and you should be able to set conversion time.
Answer to your second question is that your shared variables update only when there's data available from FPGA. This means that if you use high resolution mode (800ms/4ch) they update once every ~800ms. Changing your conversion time to high speed should give you a faster update rate.

  • Question about "run application once" semantics...

Hi to anyone still out there. We're still using ZfD 3.0SP1a with the
latest NAL patch (10.4.2002). Things basically are working but we're
redoing our software distribution strategy to try and streamline things
and squeeze a bit more life out of the platform. As part of the process, I
moved away from force run MSI installs by user for basic stuff to force
runs which call msiexec /i some.msi (or setup or whatever...) and
associating these to OUs. I was planning to use the app version number to
force redistribution whenever I put up newer MSIs or installer files. In
testing, I noticed that msiexec was running on each login for each package
and that wasn't what I wanted. I want the installers to fire off once,
then again whenever I bump the version number. So I checked off "Run
application once". Now the apps run only once but do not redistribute when
I up the version number. If I use nlist to query eDir, I can see the
attribute "zenappDisconnectedVersionNumber" has been incremented in the
directory but looking at HKLMSoftwareNetWareNAL1.0Distribute*, the version
number for that app never moves and the software isn't redistributed. The
apps are all set to "wait on force run".
Am I misunderstanding the use of this attribute? I suppose I could leave
"run application once" off and set up some registry flags to control
distribution or even just let them run on each login but I want to do this
in the cleanest fashion. Any suggestion about what I might be doing wrong
or how to work around/troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance!
    Michael

Thanks, guys. I have a follow up question/issue related to this
environment. I am pushing out a handful of apps associated with
workstations via OUs (force runs which call msiexec or a setup). I've
tested this a hundred or more times in my own OU but in several other OUs,
I've now run into this issue when NAL kicks off the first app install. I
get a WMRUNDLL.EXE error and no software distribution occurs. The text of
    the Dr Watson error is:
The application, WMRUNDLL.exe, generated an application error The error
occurred on 11/07/2007 @ 12:54:26.495 The exception generated was c0000005
    at address 004AED14 (NWAPPCreateFullObjectName)
In setting up a few machines today, the first ran fine, the next 3 got
this error. I've synched up everything in PUBLIC across all servers; all
NAL related files that I'm aware of (that show via NAL's "more" button)
are from the last update for ZfD 3, dated 10-04.2002.
I did some searching and the little I was able to find seemed to point at
a particular version of wsreg.dll. Wasn't able to find any particulars
though. Fwiw, wsreg32.exe and wsreg.dll in PUBLIC were dated 6.26.2001. I
swapped in a wsreg.dll from 10.22.2002 which I believe was part of the
49SP2 client. That apparently hasn't helped. Worst of all, it seems
intermittent or arbitrary - I can't really see what's different between
the environment I'm currently in that is experiencing the error and the
one in which it's working. It's the exact same base image, exact same
PUBLIC dir... the only difference is that it's not my home OU. I checked
workstation policies in the other OU and they appear to be the same as in
    mine.
I thought I was past this as the PUBLIC sync seemed to clear things up at
another location but now I'm seeing it again. Have you seen this before?
    Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

  • Question about running EverQuest on a Boot Camp MacMini

    Hey all,
I'm trying to get EverQuest working on my MacMini running Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Browsing through the archives of the internet, I've found many posts from 2007-2010 of people having success with this on a MacBook Pro (a few posts of which I found in these community archives), and I'm 99% certain that my MacMini hardware is more than sufficient. Anyway, I haven't even got to loading the game yet so performance my question isn't about performance.
My issue is that I'm trying to run the EverQuest LaunchPad to start patching the game, and it won't connect right from the outset. I've followed all of SoE's EQ LaunchPad Troubleshooting tips (here: http://help.soe.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29017 ) and I've also gone in to my router settings and opened/forwarded all of the necessary EQ ports to this computer's IP address. I was hoping that would do it but no luck.
I also contacted the SOE Support staff and they were categorically unhelpful as usual. I used to play EQ a decade ago and I wasn't surprised to see that their customer service hasn't changed one bit. Well, here's to hoping that the Mac community is much more positive and helpful than SOE Support.
Has anyone experienced similar problems getting EverQuest to run on a Windows Boot Camp machine like this? How did people get their LaunchPad client to connect? I'm hoping there's some really dumb, obvious fix that I'm missing here because it really does seem like many have gotten this to work successfully and I'm a bit stumped at the moment..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the hardware of macs today and windows computer is pretty much the same
so when one use bootcamp it's really just a bootloaded which collects the windows partition from the harddisk and then let it take over and apart from one having to install the apple drivers and software to get it running well
it's the same as any windows computer
I do all my my gaming on windows on my imac and face no different challenges then I did when I had a windows computer really
so If I were you I would broaden my googling for solutions not just to include bootcamp but all windows issues with newer windows versions and everquest could as easy be a issue there with newer video card drivers and the likes
