Question about semi-transparent jpgs

Hello again.
I am trying to display a semi-transparent jpg in the Graphics Layer, having a code that seems to be right but the image is not transparent after all..
I am wondering whether my source *jpg.File is the problem..
Is it possible that all input Graphics that are supposed to be transparent need an
alpha, in order to make the effect happen? I am really stuck..

If you want images to be semi-transparent then you either need to use images that have an alpha channel (e.g. PNGs) or that use a transparent colour.. The only alternative is to use a matte that handles the transparency for you, but this is a more complex solution.

  • Question about RAW to JPG file sizes

    Hello all, I have a question/concern in reference to file size changes when converting from RAW to JPG formats in PSE6. I've recently purchased a CANON 50D, and have started shooting in RAW format (actually RAW2+JPG). I have the CAMERA RAW 5.2 plugin and my workflow process is something akin to this:
    1. Separate all RAW and JPG images into their respective folders.
    2. Open the RAW folder in BRIDGE, and then open up a CR2 file. CR2 file is approx 15MB at this point, as reported in Finder.
    3. Perform various corrections in ACR52 to the file, then do as SAVE AS to a DNG file.
    4. Next step is to OPEN IMAGE, bringing it up in PSE6.
    5. Make any necessary corrections to the picture, and then do a SAVE AS to a new file name and folder, selecting JPG format.
    6. Selection MAX QUALITY from subsequent dialogue box, and SAVE.
    When the file is saved, its now down to a mere 2.1 or 2.2MB, and when viewing its properties (vs. the same file that came from camera in JPG format), its down from a 44x66" format, to somewhere around 4x6" and 240dpi.
    I've been doing some reading on this over the weekend, but cant explain away the severe loss in file size, and whether this is right, or if I'm doing something wrong in the process.
    Appreciate any advice or suggestions to help improve my work processes, and ultimately the final photos!

    Dimensions and resolution are related and multiple combinations can be produced from the same number of pixels. For example, your 50D at maximum image size produces 4,752 by 3,168 pixels. This full-size image could be printed at:
    - 19.8 x 13.2 inches at 240 PPI
    - 47.52 x 31.68 inches at 100 PPI
    - 7.92 x 5.28 inches at 600 PPI
    As you can maybe see, talking about dimensions and resolution doesn't make much sense until you are ready to consider printing. Note also that I used "PPI" or Pixels Per Inch since this is the slightly more correct terminology. DPI or "Dots Per Inch" is usually a reference to how a printer lays down the ink drops onto the paper. Many printers actually put more "dots" on the paper than there are pixels. Many people and companies use DPI when they mean PPI.
    Now in your case you are apparently starting with an SRAW2 raw file. SRAW2 files from the 50D have a reduced number of pixels and are 2,276 pixels wide by 1,584 pixels high. At 240 PPI this would allow you to print the image at 9.9 by 6.6 inches. If you are ending up with something smaller than that, it means you have either re-sampled the image (changed the image so the same image is displayed with fewer pixels) or you have cropped the image.

  • Simple question about .PNG/transparent images

    I had to do a bit of work on a transparent image that will sit on a black background. I noticed that once I put the image on it's background a bit some layer mask editing I did are showing up...this is where I didn't quite mask everything correctly. My question- is there a way to check my image with-in PhotoShop on a black background before I Save As a PNG?

  • General Questions about SEM-BCS Data Transfer

    Please help me guys ! I need a clearer picture as to how exactly the loading of data should be done to SAP SEM-Busines Consolidation
    Q1) Can I specify the Basic Cubes in my Data Basis Streams that I use for FI & CO in BCS-Workbench ? Or do I need to switch these cubes to Transactional, so it can be used in SEM-BCS ?
    Q2) or Do I have to export the data out of my FI & CO cubes in BW to a FLAT FILE, and then load the Flat File into custom Transactional Cubes ?
    Q3) Usually, for SEM-BCS would there be any direct connection to SAP R/3 or it`s via BW ?

       Anyways, I still am struggling to understand the Intergration from SEM-BCS with BW and/or R/3. If you have any material that can help me understand the intergration would be helpful.
       So, I had a look into the SAP Note 689229
       It says, all changes of master data nad hierarchies have to be made via the application layer by means of application SEM-BCS :-
      a) By Flexible Upload
      b) Manually in Consolidation Workbench
      c) In Subordinate systems from transports
      Hence, am I correct to assume that the only 2 options are permitted: Option (a) Flat File (b) Manually define the master data in BCS-Workbench ?
        So, now assuming that I need to define Consolidation Items into SEM-BCS.
      Because  there's too many, I would go with option (b) Flat File.
      So, I create a Flat File containing the Consolidation Items. Next, how do I get this loaded into BCS-Console ?
      Do I have to create a Transactional Info Cube and then load this Consolidation Items Flat File into it? Then following from there, I specify this Transactional Info Cube in my Data Stream ? or
      Is there a way, I can directly read the Flat File from SEM-BCS ?
      I use the following Info Cubes as source to my Data Basis:-

  • Hello, Question about flatting transparency and 1.3

    Hi,
    I have to output a job for print in a magazine...an ad...how exotic for me...I tend to work with after effects. Anyhow, I spent alot of time reading the specs i need on the PPA website and downloading a pdf pre-set that I can use to export my document from Indesign.
    However when I export as 1.3 I get strange lines turning up throughout my document no matter what I view it in (although not photoshop). What are these lines, and do i need to get rid of them? If so how????

    One thing I do to reassure myself that the stitching lines won't show up is zoom in on them.  When they don't get any wider, no matter how far you zoom in, you know that they won't print.  The reason you can see them is Adobe Reader or whatever you're viewing them in thinks 'hey there's a white line here but it's so fine that you won't be able to see it, I'd better magnify it so you notice it', not realising the grief it causes everyone.  Not a very technical way to explain it but it makes sense to me!

  • An Image JPanel, A semi-transparent JPanel, and non-opaque components

    I have a class called ImagePane, which is basically a JPanel with an image background. The code is much like the ImagePanel posted by camickr, discussed in this topic: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=316074 (except mine only draws the image, it does not tile or scale it).
    On top of my ImagePane, I can place another component, TransparentContainer. This again extends JPanel, only a color is specified in the constructor, and it is drawn at about 70% opacity. This component is meant to help increase the readability of text components that blend with the background image, without blocking out the background image completely.
    This works very well, until I need to add a component, like, say, a non-opaque JRadioButton in a ButtonGroup. When you select a new JRadioButton at runtime, the semi-transparent JPanel fills with a combination of a completely opaque color (the one specifies to the TransparentContainer) and garbage from the non-opaque component being redrawn.
    I have noticed that the UI is restored to being non-messed up if you place another application window on top of it and then move it. So apparently, one solution is to redraw the entire UI, or just the part that has the JRadioButton on it, every time the radio button is clicked. However, this seems unnecessarily complicated. It seems to me that I am missing something in my TransparentContainer's paintComponent() method. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Can anyone tell me why games are semi transparent in Pogo? I only have this problem with Firefox but not with IE9 or Chrome

    When I click on a game, the game window opens and is solid, but when it's fully loaded, it becomes semi transparent and washed out. I can post a screen shot of what I'm talking about if this forum supports it.

  • Having a JPanel 'float' semi-transparently over another component

    I am a programmer of a java project for our company.
    Managemnt decided that when a certain event happens, we need to 'semi-disable' a certain text area (in a JScrollPane), and have a floating message with a progress bar on top of this text area, but be semi-transparent, so you can still read the text under it.
    (Basically, they want it to look like a html page with a floating, semi-transparent DIV, because that is how another group mocked it up).
    I am trying to implement this, but am running into problems.
    Here is what I have, below I'll tell you what is wrong with it.
         * The purpose of this class is to have a scroll pane that can have it's contents partially covered by another panel
         * while still being able to read both the original panel and the new covering content, and still being able to scroll

    The first version didn't have the paintStuff() method (it just called paint). This just drew a big grey box, now of the sub-components of the passed in JPanel were drawing. I added the do layout and validate calls, without success.
    Then I added the paintStuff call, and all the subcomponents now, draw, but they all draw at 0,0.
    Questions
    1. Is the the correct approach to do this, or sould I be playing with the glass pane or some other approach?
    2. It seems that the overlay panel isn't being layed out / doens't paint it's children correctly. Is this because it isn't really part of the layout (i.e. it has no parent / is never added to a container) or am I just missing a step in 'faking' adding it to a layout?
    3. I'm sure I could just override paint and paint my own stuff (hand draw the text and a progress bar), but I would really like to put everything on one JPanel as what we want to display my be different in the future. I know that I manually ahve to call repaint on this scrollpane if one of the components on the overlay JPanel change in appearence (the progress bar especailly), and that they won't get events (I don't care about this as they are all non-interactive for now). Is this a viable approach, or is there a better way to do this?

  • Semi-transparent box that can execute php commands?

    I am trying to find out if it is possible to a) create a semi transparent box in flash, b) motion tween that box into place, c) subsequently use it to run forms and PHP scripts (connect to a MySQL instance, ect).
    I know that an exact answer to c) will be long and complex, so a simple (general) yes or no will suffice... but if someone could point me in more detailed direction with a) and b), I would greatly apreciate it!
    Any responses are very much apreciated!!! If you need to see the actual project I'm working on, or if I need to clarify my questions, please let me know.

  • Two questions about the new iWeb

    Hi
    I've got two questions about the new iWeb.
    1. Is it possible to blog online now? Meaning adding a new blog entry without having to be on your own Mac? This is a feature I've been waiting for since iWeb first was released.
    2. Is it possible to choose the format of images? Earlier editions had the option to "optimize" images but that meant it changed it into .png meaning the site got a lot heavier than if .jpg was used. And since I have relatives who still only have an isdn connection I need to be able to have the website as light as possible.

    Question about Aperture slide shows. How can I eliminate banding in a blue sky when photos are displayed in Aperture Slide shows?

    What kind of banding? Do you have a screenshot?
    It could be jpg compression related, I think the previews are all jpgs.

    is there a way to let the ruler and straighten like cs5 ? i gave a look to my friend cs6 and cs6 ruler and straighten leave transparent image around the corner
    and is there a way to set for each adjustament layer a size ? for example i like a big curve window but for example have a smaller level windows

    The feature is there, where Christoph described it, though I would have liked it if they'd left an option for the Ruler Tool button to allow people to add "and crop" as well.  But Adobe have confirmed they moved it out of there on purpose, presumably because new users would expect to crop their image using the Crop Tool, not the Ruler Tool.

    You MUST be talking about the Properties panel, where adjustment layer info is shown, because the dialogs you get when you do things like Image - Adjust - Levels or Image - Adjust - Curves is not resizeable in any way I can see.  At least not on a PC.
    No, there's no special option that allows dialog sizes to be saved separately.  It's just one panel, and the size of the panel itself defines the size of the contents up to each of their max sizes.

  • How to make a semi-transparent layer?

    I am making my own website with Dreamwaver. I am a totally
    new user and have no IT background. So could anyone here kindly
    help me with my question:
    In the main page I would like to use two layers with images
    inserted. The second one will be a semi-transparent image which is
    made in Fireworks. I would like to let this layer cover the first
    one. Because it's semi-transparent, so i should still be able to
    see the underlying image... I did all this, but finally in the IE
    the second layer is NOT transparent at all.
    I don't know where the problem is. Please, if anyone knows
    the solutions or have any suggestion, let me know!

    I'll show it to you my way:
    1. Type the text and click the layer mask icon. The layer mask should be all white and have a small border. That indicates the mask ist active.
    The foreground color should be black and the background color white.
    2. Choose the gradient tool. Open the gradient window. Choose the first gradient, "foreground to background" = black to white.
    Change the white color to gray.
    3. Check the layer mask > is it active?
    Apply the gradient from right to left over your text.
    See the thin line in the screenshot.
    4. On your layer mask appears the gradient, left starting with gray and right ending with black.
    The advantage of this method is that you can change your text without  modifying the gradient.
    The black color on the layer mask hides the text, the gray color makes the text more or less visible and white color means full visible.
