Question about Steaming Live Video...

I am developing an app that streams a live video feed from one of our basic webcams... Would this work well if the other user was on a dial-up connection, or a slower connection?
How is the video buffering and loading supported in flex... ??

The streaming process is handled your the streaming server, usually
the streaming server has several algorithms to detect bandwith and
lower the packages or increase the packages that are send to the user.
Sincerely,
Michael

  • Capacity question for participant live video

The marketing for Adobe Connect shows 15 people online with video at the same time. However, an administrator at my institution says that having more than 5 or 6 people can become problematic. What are your experiences with capacity, clarity of voice, noise in background, etc.? How many people can I expect to have live at the same time on video?
    thanks
    lisaanne100

It all comes down to bandwidth. Since there is no limit on how many individuals can be sharing their camera and audio, you should be able to share as many as the internet connection can handle. However, there is a line between possible and reasonable.
You should be able to accommodate more concurrent live videos than concurrent live audio streams.
When breaking the 5-6 number for live video, I'd switch down to the lowest quality video, so that I have a better chance of getting the clean videos delivered to everyone. Consider whether or not everyone needs to be on a live video stream. Do you need to see people sitting there drinking water, picking their nose, or looking bored? Usually only the individuals that are actively speaking justify a live video.
Audio through VoIP is like audio through radios. There is a single audio stream and everyone's audio gets compressed into that single stream. So if you have more than 3-5 individuals talking, it will just sound like noise with no easy way to distinguish one person from another. If the group is well behaved you can get more people to have hot mics at once, but only one or two people should be talking at any given time. Additionally, multiple hot mics will increase the likelihood of an echo or a feedback loop. Like the video, only the individuals who are speaking should have their mic on and broadcasting. This is why the raise hand feature is in Connect, so other individuals can indicate that they have something to say, and the host can give them the ability to do so at the appropriate time.

  • Probably a stupid question about cropping a video..

OK, so I shot an interview with a black background and once I went to edit it, I noticed a red object in the far right corner. Is there a way I can add black over this object or crop it out? I know this is a stupid question, but I'm new to video and editing in general so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

There are several ways to accomplish what you want.
KGCW has talked about the Crop Effect.
Depending on exactly where the object is, and whether the camera was locked down, it might be possible to duplicate your Clip, place it above your initial Clip, then offset it a bit (Motion>Position), with the Fixed Effect>Motion>Position, and then apply the Garbage Matte to that offset duplicate, effectively Cropping out everything, but a small "patch" from the existing background. Note: if the edges of that Garbage Matte are too hard for you, you could create a soft-edged Track Matte, and use that to hold out the rest of the offset duplicate.
Another method, and depending on where, and how large the offending item is, would be to go to the Fixed Effect>Motion, and use Motion>Scale to increase the size of the Clip (do not do too much Scale, or quality will suffer). You might also need to do a bit of Motion>Position, to get that red object behind the Video's Frame Size. This will effectively Crop the object.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Question about Print to Video

I am using a Sony HC1 HDV camera. I captured some HDV video (using the camera to downconvert) in DV. I edited the sequence and now I want to output a copy of my finished version onto tape in standard definition. The camera is connected via firewire.
I tried to do this playing with the video/audio settings and could not get it to work. I am using Print to Video. I seem to have no problem when I print to video in HDV, but I can't get it to work in DV. Does anyone have any suggestions about settings or anything else that would make this work?

I thought I put the camera in the correct mode, but if I hear you accurately you are saying that you think it is one of my camera settings that is incorrect not my settings within FCP?
Just to verfiy what should all of my Audio/Video settings for Print to Video be for outputting DV to the camcorder? (Both video and audio)
    Thanks Jerry-

  • IMovie problem re: converted files. Also question about rotating a video.

    1. I convereted a .avi file to .mp4 and I still cannot open the file in iMovie, is it because i converted the file? What can I do about this?
    2. Can I rotate a video clip using iMovie? I can't seem to find any software to do this, any help would be appreciated.

    Hi John
    to no: 2
In iMovie as standard - NO
    1. Cxf - Turn Clip - think it is a free plug-in there
    2. QT-pro (in 90-deg steps) but about $20 extra
    3. FCE/P - expencive - but very interesting solution
    4. there's a 4th, free option to rotate video:
goo' ol' Streamclip allows opening of dv-file,
    rotate & shrink (75%) ...

  • Simple questions about the Live! Ultra for Notebooks webcam

    Hi there,
I don't have a notebook, but I have an LCD display and I'm thinking of getting a webcam. Does anyone know if the Live! Ultra for Notebooks can be clipped on something as thick as 3cm?
Also, does it have an in-built microphone, or is that all in the headset?
    Thanks in advance.
    Charlie

    Charlie,
The clip of the webcam can be stretch to approximately about .5cm only. Also, the microphone is not inbuilt into the webcam. It's on another seperate headset.

  • Question About Importing DVD Video to iMovie 9

I have some home DVDs with 3 types of files on them (.BUP, .IFO, and .VOB), and they are all grayed out when I try to import them in iMovie. iMovie help says the format has to be in MPEG-4, DV, or .mov files
What's the recommended converter/process to get the DVD video into iMovie?
All I really want to do with the video is capture clips from the DVDs

    Hi Appleman1958,
Here's situation: I have several DVDs that were burned from home videos (high school football games, etc.). I don't know whether they were burned using iMovie/iDVD or some other program. I need to pull clips from the individual DVDs and combine them into a new DVD. I've edited movies that were recorded on my digital camera with iMovie and burned the project to a DVD using iDVD, so that part isn't a problem.
    My questions are as follows:
    1. I downloaded the QuickTime component and Streamclip, per the instructions in your post dated 12/5/09. After I installed each application (or thought I did), I dragged the files from the "download" folder to the trash. Now I don't see the applications in the Finder. Did I uninstall the applications when I dragged the downloaded files to the trash? Also, the file types in the trash are "Disk Images" (.dmg). Is that correct?
    1. Will the QuickTime MPEG2 Component/Streamclip process work for DVDs that weren't created using Apple software?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Yet another question about exporting and video quality

    Kind people,
I know this question has been asked many, many times, and I have searched and read up of the topic, but I would also like to ask it.
I shot my video on a Canon Vixia HF10, downloaded it to Final Cut Express to edit, exported it as Quick Time Movie, dropped it in iDVD, then played it on my TV and the quality was…..not good. The video was a little fuzzy and there were ghosts. Are there any settings I should go back and check in iDVD.
    Wolfgang

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the format recorded by this camera?
How did you capture/ingest your video material in FCE?
What was your sequence format in timeline?
How did you export your sequence (specify exact steps, menus and command)?
What was your iDVD project settings?
What was the iDVD quality setting?
Did you monitor your DVD on computer screen or TV set?

  • Question about backing up video files!

Is it possible for me to put videos I bought on iTunes onto a CD? I want to back them up, but I don't have a DVD burner/blank DVDs.
Basically, I'm asking if I could use the files in iTunes after putting them on a CD.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I just looked a the individual file sizes on a couple of my music videos, they seem to run between 30-40mb approximately. Based on that type of file size, it looks like you could burn approximately 25 videos to a data CD, keeping mind that CD's can hold 700 mb worth of data. Hope this helps.

  • Question about reusing "into" videos in multiple projects

I have a short "into" animation that I want to start all my videos with. Is there a good place to put it so that I can access it in any new project I create? What is the best procedure for doing this. I assume it is a common thing to do.
    Thanks,

If you had Motion you could create a Motion Effect or Generator for FCP X. Othewise you could just place it into an Event as you'll always have access to that Event and just drag it over.

  • Question about editing / modifying video

Is it possible to blur out a logo in the one of my clips? Are there any tools in iMovie to do this?
    imac G5

Ok, I tried the plugin you recommend and unfortunately it didn't work out quite the way I wanted it to. I purchased and it (I should have just tried it first before I bought it) and tried to use it and all it did was pixellate the entire clip, it did not allow me to select the logo that needs to be blurred out in the clip. I need to be able to select the area in the clip, not just the whole clip. Even if it's not a blur, maybe even a black bar that I can resize and move around to black out the logo in the video.
I sent an e-mail to CFX support and they told me that their pluggins don't work at all with Intel based macs like mine. This is what I'm running, and this is what he wrote back to me and said....
    Mac OS X Version 10.4.4
Processor 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    iMovie Version = HD 6.0.2 (267)

    Dear Sir,
thank you for your messages, and the additional information you
provided. From your second mail (below), we see that you have now correctly
installed the plug-in (as you correctly deducted, the plug-in had to be
installed manually by dragging it into the corect location).
Unfortunately, you are using an Intel-based Mac. Because we are still
waiting for a compiler that can produce the required shared libraries for
Intel-based Macs, our plug-ins are not yet Intel compatible. This means that
you did nothing wrong installing the plug-in. iMovie simply refuses to run
    it.
    Sincerely,
    Cf/x
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated beause I really need to finish this video

  • Question about SB Live 5.1 platinum speaker set

I was just wondering if it is possible with the SB Li've 5. platinum card to have a game using the SPDIF output and set up another set of speakers on the line out channel for use with a teamspeak type program?

You mean you get audio at all??Heh. I did hear of Windows Update giving some sort of 2. sound so maybe that's what you have. Since Creative isn't going to do any work on the old Li've series (non-24bit), I suggest you try the latest beta kXProject drivers from the driverheaven.net kXProject forum. 3538l is Windows Vista compatible. Just install it with UAC turned off. Don't know how much is working, but it's possible that your Li'veDri've is one of the things. See for yourself. Better than the basic Microsoft implementation, especially for your 5. speaker support.
