Question deploying ejbs, possible bug

I am deploying my ejbs with an ear file and I specified for only 3 beans to be created
at start up but I saw it created the Bean more than 3 times when the server is started.
Is this normal?
I'm also having problems with the auto redeploy. It never redeploy in the correct
order forcing me to restart the server. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
Server version? Are you using the latest service pack?

• Is it possible to deploy EJBs onto Tomcat server

Hi all,
Please advice me if it is possible to deploy EJBs on the Tomcat Server.
If so how to go about it?
Thanks
Ranjan

No , it is not possible.Tomcat does not have a
Ejb container. It only has a web container.
Try using free servers like Sun One application server for
deploying your ejb's.

• Question about EJB deployment (NoClassDefFoundError)

I got a "NoClassDefFoundError" when I bring up my servlet which tries
to use a session bean. Can anyone tell me the correct way to deploy
EJB in web logic 6.1?
My case is:
I have a session bean "examples.mysession" packaged in examples.jar
and
stored in "<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications".
In addition, I create an application "testapp" with a number of jsp &
servlets.
("<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications/testapp")
The servlets' classes are stored in
"<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications/testapp/WEB-INF/classes/examples/myservlet.class"
In the servlet, I am trying to use the mysession bean by calling
"create()" on mysession's home object. This is where I got the
"NoClassDefFoundError".

Is there something missing in my deployment procedure?
Thanks in advance

• Problem in deploying EJBs (More than 390) in weblogic-BEA says JDK issue!!!

Our application had 390 EJBs before the current build. It was running fine on Weblogic 6.1-SP4 with JDK 1.3.1_08.
In the current build, 3 EJBs were introduced and the Weblogic server started giving deployment problems. We then came across the Weblogic Bug stating the magic Number of 390 and delegating it to a SUN Bug. But, contrary to the SUN bug which says of a OutofMemory issue, we were not getting any OutOfMemory error.
Then, just to test the 390 number, we cut downed on the number of EJBs reducing the number to 388, in a test environment. EJBs got deployed without problem. Then we added 3 EJBs (increasing the EJB count to 391), and Weblogic server started giving Deployment problem in a EJB which was one of the 388 that were running fine earlier. But, now also there was no OutOfMemory error. Then we removed one of the newly added EJBs to bring the EJB count to 390. The Weblogic deployed the EJBs without error(even the one which was giving problem when EJB count was 391).
So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any OutOfMemory error.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be done to fix it?

So, 390 seems to be the number but, contrary to BEA
problem ID: 035884 which delegates the problem to SUN
Bug ID:4390238 (Incidentally SUN has closed this bug
as Non-reproducable), we are not getting any
OutOfMemory error.Did you check the server logs? There might be an OutOfMemoryError logged.
My questions to the JAVA community are:
1)Is the problem really related to JDK or Weblogic?Apparently, the problem is with the Weblogic. Did you try deploying the same number on some higher version of Weblogic? (7.0 for instance)
2)If it's a problem with JDK, then what should be
done to fix it?Check the bug database for the same bug id. There is a workaround posted. The evaluation comments are also hinting at using the suggested VM options.

• Calling a newly deployed EJB from an EJB gives a NoSuchMethod Exception if the jar of the newly deployed ejb is not in the classpath

Hi ,
I have an EJB A which is already deployed when the server starts. A second ejb
B is deployed at a later time.
EJB A calls methods in EJB B. I use reflection in EJB A to call methods in EJB
B.
I get a NoSuchMethodException when I call the create method in the Home object
of EJB B. If I add the ejb jar file to the classpath before the server starts
then it is able to resolve the method.
The problem is the EJBs which are called from EJB A is not known before the server
is started. New EJBs can be deployed at runtime and EJB A should be able call
the methods in newly deployed EJB's.
I also use the URLClassLoader to load all the classes in the jar file of the newly
deployed EJB in EJB A and it still gives a NoSuchMethodException because it cannot
resolve the stub class.
My error log is shown below.
This is an urgent issue.

Hi,
I am attaching a test case. This test case actually demonstrates a security bug.
Unzip the file and modify the StartWeblogic.cmd in domainA to not refer to the
SampleRemoteEJB.jar in the classpath. If u run the test client under the client
dir u will see a NoSuchMethodException.
The reason is it is not able to load the dynamically generated stub file.
Initially I had the getMethod and it didn't work. You might have to modify the
files to suit ur env. The easier way is to run th edomain wizard and create 2
domains. Run the servers in development mode and place the jars under the applications
dir
Thanks

Hmmmm. That's an interesting problem.
Why is it giving you a NoSuchMethodException instead of a
ClassNotFoundException?
Can you post the code from SampleConctorEJB.java, line 181?
Try changing your call to getDeclaredMethod() to getMethod().
getDeclaredMethod() searches only the class you called it on, whereas
getMethod() traverses to the superclasses and interfaces. You onlyneed
getDeclaredMethod() when you're accessing a nonpublic method.
Not sure if this will help, but it's worth a shot.

• Error while deploying EJB on OAS 4.0.8.1

I have installed OAS 4.0.8.1 on Windows NT 4.0 with Support Pack 6a. The java compiler used is from JDK 1.1.6 provided with OAS.
The following error occurs while deploying EJB on OAS. The error is the same while deploying through the node manager or by using oasdeploy command line utility.
java.lang.NoClassDefFound Error
Code generation for
D:\\orant\\ows\\upload\\425BrowserBean.jar failed!
Creating registration files.....
Unable to expand attribute Unable to load from C:\temp\src425\oasbae.properties
Please let me know the possible causes for non deployment of the bean on OAS.
null

With JDev 3.1, we only support deployment to OAS 4.0.8.2.
JDev 3.0 supported deployment to OAS 4.0.8.1.
I believe most of this restriction is due to internal changes in OAS that we were only able to integrate with 3.1.

• Possible Bug with Drag-and-Drop Being Published via HTML5 - Getting "Undefined" Error When Dragging Object

Hello,
I came up with a way to use drag-and-drop interactions that will take advantage of file input so that I may create a drag-and-drop interaction that uses one draggable object over and over allowing multiple scoring/tracking possibilities.  Example use...is having the draggable object be dynamic in that it randomly changes its text so that a learner can drag a term it's possible classification.........thus allowing the possibility of having many terms easily loaded without having to redo a drag-and-drop interaction for each needed terms/classifications updates/changes.
My Issue: When using a variable to represent the text for a draggable Smart Shape object, I'm getting the error message "undefined" when, clicking/pressing on the object, as well as during the drag of the object. This issue occurs when publishing the project in an HTML5 format.  Flash interestingly enough seems to work perfect...but we are not interested in publishing via Flash any longer.
To better help you explore this error message, I've set up a test project so that you can see when and how the "undefined" message shows up during a drag-and-drop interaction.  I've also included the Captivate 8 project file used to make the exploration project I'm sharing in this post.
Link to Captivate project I created for you all to explore "undefined" error message": http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug/
Link to this Captivate 8 Project file: http://iti.cscc.edu/drag_and_drop_bug.cptx
It's pretty interesting how things react in this demo, please try the following actions to see some interesting happenings:
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target.
Drag Black Hello square to Drag target and click undo or reset - watch the undefined message come up on the Yellow (or variable drag box).
Drag the Yellow (or variable drag box) to the drag target and then use the undo or reset.
Move both draggable boxes to the drag target and use the undo and reset buttons...
Anyhow, I know you all are sharp and will run the demo through its paces.
I'd really be very honored if anyone help me figure out how I could (when publishing out to HTML5) no longer have the "undefined" error message show up when using drag-and-drop with a variable for shape text. This technique has been well received at the college I work at...and I have many future project requests for using such an idea on a variety of similar interactions. I'd love see a solution or see if this might be a bug Adobe may be able to fix!
I tried to find a solution to the issue documented here for quite some time, but I was not able to find anyone with this problem much less attempting the idea I'm sharing in the help request -  save the darn "undefined" message that comes up!
Many thanks in advance for any help and/or direction that you all may be able to provide,
Paul

Hello,
I just wanted to supply a minor update related to my drag-and-drop question/issue stated above:
I did another test using Captivate 7, and found that the undefined error (publishing as HTML5) does not appear and the variable data remains visible - except the variable data turns very small and does not honor any font size related settings.
I did go ahead and submit this to Adobe as a possible bug today.
Thanks again for any help related to this issue.  If the issued documented above is solved, it will allow many amazing things to be done using Captivate's drag-and-drop for both regular type projects as well as interaction development for iBooks!
Matter of fact if this issue gets fixed, I'll publish a Blog entry (or video) on way's I've used Captivate's drag-and-drop to create dynamic learning activities for Higher Ed. and for use in iBooks.
~ Paul

BTW, if I change the @Remote to @Local, I can deploy the ejb successfully.
In addition, Who knows how to access the ejb3.0 from a standalone client just like access the EJB2.0:
properties = new Properties();
properties.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
properties.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://localhost:7001");

Obj ref = cont.lookup("???"); //--------------------> What should I write here???
Thanks!

Hi,
It's not easy to tell what's wrong with your example.
Maybe you could send me a zip and I'll check when I have some time.
By the way, you're asking a question about the lookup of an EJB3, I wrote an article that covers that topic.
It should give you some interesting input.

• Where can I find the deployed EJB files in Oracle 10g AS(904)

Hello All,
Where can I find the deployed ejb files, stubs and skels in the Oracle 10g (904)
When I try to run my ejb application I m getting following exception:
com.evermind.server.rmi.OrionRemoteException: Error (de-)serializing object: org.apache.log4j.Logger
I am not sure what is causing this error. I am not using any logging in my EJB. But the logging framework is configured in the application server.
Your input would be a great help to me
Thank you

Thanks Carty,
I am not creating Connection from EJB. I have a POJO called DBManager that looks for the DB Connection and return that to either EJB or other POJO that requests for Connection.
I am having a private method that get the connection from the DBManager because while writing UnitTest cases I can mockup getting Connection as my Unit test case will be a POJO again..
I have a question here regarding making DBManager as Singleton class. In my current project, I have configured my database in the application server as getting the connection by lookup for datasource through JNDI. It internally maintains all logical connection and always have one physical connection. In such scenario how implementing singleton will be beneficial?
Thank you for answering all my questions.

• Some questions on EJBs

hi, i am an intermediate javaee developer but i have some questions on EJBs. sometimes i wonder why do i want to use EJBs in an application. if possible please use some illustrations.
1) What problems do EJBs both session bean and message driven bean solve respectively. like what was the motivation behind creating ejbs.
for ex, someone complained to me once that an app his company wrote took time to load large sets of data, and he asked if he should use EJBs, and i am like, does an EJB load data faster? though i think i said it could help, not because i was sure, but because u know the "Biig EJB", it has to solve it.
2) why do people compare spring and ejbs, and sometimes prefer spring over ejbs.
3) in what situations could an EJB be neccessary/advantageous, and what are the disadvantages if any.
thanks.

For example, you get integrated JMS support through message driven beans, no extra work needed there. You get container managed transactions, which made my life a whole lot easier once I got over that phase of thinking the server is responsible for everything (it is not, you are still in the driver seat when it comes to transaction management). As part of that transaction management you get out of the box ORM support through the JPA specification. You can take advantage of the load balancing features of the server for heavy weight applications. etc. etc.
In essence you shouldn't think in terms of what EJB technology gives you; what does the entire JEE platform give you, of which EJB technology is only a component?
>
2) why do people compare spring and ejbs, and sometimes prefer spring over ejbs.A real world example: when putting together Ikea furniture you can usually get very far with only using those little tools they give you in the package. However, sometimes you are forced to use a screwdriver, a hammer or a drill. And sometimes you use a screwdriver to keep something in place while using the little Ikea tool to put in a screw. Combining the screwdriver and the Ikea tool usually stems from experience where using only one of them took so much longer and was so much more frustrating to get the things done.
Interesting how real world examples usually translate to software development as well. Why would you limit yourself to using only one tool when combining tools could give you more flexibility and could solve a problem easier because you use the strengths of both to compliment each other?
3) in what situations could an EJB be neccessary/advantageous, and what are the disadvantages if any.All technology exists because there was some need for it. Need rises from requirements, so this question is not answered right here and now - it should be asked on a per project basis. I have this project with these requirements, how could EJB technology help here? How could Spring help? How could Struts 2.0 help? etc. etc.

• Possible bug? formatted number 0 displays as  4,294,967,295

This is really two questions in one. First, I have a routine
that sometimes provides a result of 0, which is *sometimes*
displayed in an AdvancedDataGrid column as 4,294,967,295, which I'm
assuming is somehow a meaningful number (largest int?). Anyway, I
have an ADG with a column defined as:
<mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="Remaining work"
labelFunction="rem_work_fmt" textAlign="right" />
The labelFunction called is shown below:
private function rem_work_fmt(item:Object,
column:AdvancedDataGridColumn):String
var num:String =
numberFormatter.format(item.get_remaining_work());
trace ("result: " + num);
return num;
The trace output prints: "result: 0" as expected, but the
number displayed in the grid is sometimes 0 and sometimes
4,294,967,295.
More weirdness, this only happens to the last column in the
ADG. I call the same format logic on a different column and have
never seen the wrong result. Also, the same underlying function
"get_remaining_work()" is called elsewhere on the same data and the
result is correctly displayed in a text field as 0.
Second question, I've run into some other possible bugs,
which I haven't reported because I found a work around. How does
one do that in the beta program?

lw1001,
Bugs can be filed in the public bug base at
http://bugs.adobe.com/flex/
You'll need to sign up before you can submit bugs.
Also, if you can attach the bug files to the bug report, it
makes it a lot easier for Adobe to investigate.
Let me know if you have any further questions/problems.
Peter

• Deploying EJBs not in an EAR

Is it possible to deploy EJBs in 9.0.3 without the EJB jars belonging to an EAR? It looks like the deployment tools can handle deploying EARs and WARs only. The reason I ask is that I'm looking into porting a large component based EJB/web service application that currently runs in JBoss. Under JBoss, the EJBs are deployed in jars and the web services in WARs. Shared classes are deployed into the lib directory. I realize this is non-standard, but it facilitates development and administration since individual components (EJBs) can be added or redeployed without redeploying the whole EAR. Our business model is to build solutions (application) out of components and it would be somewhat painful to have to create and maintain very large EAR files for each solution.

Hi Jeff,
I believe the recommended way to do this in OC4J is to build a hierarchy of parent (and child) applications. Make an EAR (i.e. application) that only contains EJBs, and make it the parent application of your web services application. You can find more details in the documentation.
Good Luck,
Avi.

• How to build and deploy ejb in j2ee!!

HI there!!
Newbie Question. I know this is very rude to ask a question "How to build and deploy ejb in j2ee server??", but please help me. I just learned some servlets worked with tomcat. Now I want to learn more about ejb, could anyone suggest me any online tutorial or book where in it is explained step by step builiding and deploying ejb's in j2ee server, please help me. I would be grateful to you.

A good book to start with is Enterprise JavaBeans by Monson-Haefel (O'Reilly press). It covers deployment of EJBs on J2EE servers. Also check out sites specific to your server, sometimes they have specific requirements (like Weblogic).

• Hi questions on ejb??????

hi everybody.... can you give my questions answers.........................
if we write abstract class in case of home and object interface? and all the methods needed put in the Abstract class is the ejb code is working..... if yes...so why.... if no then why........

Hi,
I have the following two questions on EJB while I am working a project based
on EJB:
(1) What is the guideline to implement a cluster-wise exclusive on EJB? In
another word, I want to have only one EJB instance for a DB record to be
created among all the cluster nodes. As far as I know, the EXCLUSIVE
concurrent control setting in EJB deployment descriptor only works in the
single node. Is that right?Yes.
(2) Giving the RObean cachel invalidation process, if I use cacheHome
interface to invaliate the corresponding RO beans, does this gurantee the
ROBean will not read any out-of-date data? Or there are still a small window
the ROBean may have the old data?Yes, there is a small window when RO bean can have the old data. If you invalidate
beans manually (using CachingHome) make sure you do this after update transaction
commits - that way RO bean will not read old data.
Thanks!
