Question Related to table or view privilages ?????

Hi,
I have written a stored procedure under my schema, it queries data from production table or view. when i run this Stored procedure(SP) it gives me error saying "table or view does not exist".
But when i try to query(i,e select * from XYZ(prod.table)) from this prod table or view outside the SP it runs fine and queries the data.
My intial question was i didnt had privilage to access the table, but when i query outside the SP it runs fine. So there is permission for my ID to access the table. But why m i getting this error, Any idea please ???
Your help is greatly appriciated!!!! Thank you so much!!!

Using the default "definer rights" model, the owner of the stored SQL (view, procedure, trigger, method, etc) must have the required privileges granted directly to them and not obtain them via a role.
The reason is that a role can be disabled in one session while enabled in a different session (for the same user). The database only relies on a privs that are consistent across all sessions. Those privs granted directly WILL be consistent across all sessions.
Using the "invoker rights" model (AUTHID CURRENT_USER), this direct grant restriction does not apply.
So, either declare AUTHID CURRENT_USER in your stored SQL header, or grant the privs directly to the owner of the SQL.

    Welcome to the world of complicated Oracle Application queries. Didn't fully understand your question, so a few guesses -
    I think that you are asking how to make your query faster? I would reference the FAQ section on how to post a question regarding performance.
    Your title indicates you want to understand the relationship between tables and views. In general, Oracle Applications uses views for 2 reasons - to join data from multiple tables for display, and to differentiate data from different organizations. (I am still on 11i and have heard organizations are handled differently in 12 so I can't speak to that for sure).
    To understand the relationship between tables in a view, you can access the view's source code, either through a development tool such as PL/SQL Developer or TOAD (I'm guessing Oracle's tool does this also, but have never used it), or by querying the source from the dba_source table.
    select * from dba_source where name = (name of view) and type = 'VIEW' order by line;without the ( ) just the view name, in all capital letters i.e. , 'GL_JE_LINES_V'
    Good luck!

  • Question related to table partitioning

    Dear Friends,
    I have two tables:
    Table 1.

    VERSIONNO NOT NULL FLOAT(126)
    VARCHAR_VALUE VARCHAR2(255)
    NUMERIC_VALUE FLOAT(126)
    DATE_VALUE DATE
    BOOLEAN_VALUE VARCHAR2(10)
    REPORTINGDATE_ID NOT NULL NUMBER
    SYSTEMDEAL_ID NUMBER
    OUTPUT_TEMPLATE_ID NUMBER
    SECTION_ID NUMBER
    DATAPOINT_ID NUMBER
    PROCESSDATA_ID NOT NULL NUMBER
    ROW_ID NUMBER
    USER_ID NUMBER
    ROLE_ID NUMBER
    IS_STORE NOT NULL NUMBER
    Table 2.
    SQL> desc Reporting_Date
    Name Null? Type
    REPORTINGDATE_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    REPORTINGDATE DATE
    CURRENTPERIOD NUMBER(38)
    Both tables are joined using 'REPORTINGDATE_ID'. Now I've to partition Table 1 based on the column 'REPORTINGDATE' of Table 2. How can it be done?

    updates to the status column is frequent, considering data inflow.
    status has dfferent values like new,active,inactive etc.
    for the entity record, workflow, has different states.
    table can be partitioned on status field,
    for a new state of a workflow record, there will be a new row and the old record is updated with a different status, hence row movement across paritions
    for eg:
    workflow_id=100 (internal id
    workflow_parent=WF_XXXX01
    status=new
    next time, if there is a status change for the workflow, WF_XXXX01
    workflow_id=101
    workflow_parent=WF_XXXX01
    status=active
    etc
    if PK to be a local index, then it will be workflow_id+status
    possible query patterns,
    select * from workflow where workflow_id=id_val and status='new'
    select * from workflow where <some_other_criteria>
    select * from workflow where status='new'
    select * from workflow where status='active'
    the only advantage i see here is to keep separate partitions for each status to group records, for eg. instead of keeping a separate entity to keep the inactive records.
    if the predicate includes the status field, it needs to touch only the corresponding partition, if local index is there, then there can be performance benefits.
    but global index will be ok, if there are limited number of partitions and query retrieves only small number of rows and response time is critical
    may be after some time, as part of puring, the inactive paritions can be dropped, if there are only local indexes, then there is no parition maintenance overhead
    but considering overall overhead, in terms of row contention related issues,
    for an OLTP, would you suggest partitioning?
    thanks,
    charles

  • Questions relate to table "cache"??

    We plan to "cache" some tables to SGA or DB_keep_cache_size. some questions need to clarify:
    1. what different between:
    alter table user.table_name cache;
    alter TABLE USER.TABLE_NAME storage (buffer_pool keep);
    2. if I using either way to cache table, how to check table already "cache"?
    Thanks.

    Thanks.In Oracle, starting with I suppose Release 8, they have three types of data buffer pool, or say they have divided data buffer pool, in three part,
    1) Default pool -- This is the normal data pool.
    2) Keep Pool -- This is a data pool where you want your table/object to remain in memory for longer time.
    3) Recycle Pool -- This is a data pool where you want your table/object to remain till the time it is needed i.e. very short duration.
    So when you use second command with storage option, you are saying to keep that data in Keep Pool.
    Now, in all the three pools data gets aged out based on an algorithim known as LRU (Least recently used) i.e. to keep the data in front of the queue if it is accessed.
    When you say cache using your first query, you are saying oracle to keep it in the front of the queue when full table scan is done. It can be in any buffer (Default/Keep/Recycle)

  • Question related to tables

    hi friends...................
    Is it possible to find out changes made in "screen or in a table  or in a rept type object "  ..................
    if it is possible so plz tell me how is it possible????? ................................
    what to get changes in it ?????............................
    thanks .....

    HI ,
    Is it standard table, and standard screen, tcodes..
    check the table CDHDR and CDPOS table which captures the changes.
    search SDN for more on CDHDR and CDPOS.
    eg: change the values on the screen, table now and execute the tables CDHDR and CDPOS in se16 for todays date
    the values will be captured and you can fetch them.

  • Errors in the high-level relational engine. The data source view does not contain a definition for the table or view. The Source property may not have been set.

    Hi All,
    I have a cube in which i'm using the TIME DIM that i created in the warehouse. But now i wanted a new measure in the cube which is Average over time and when i wanted to created the new measure i got a message that no time dim was defined, so i created a
    new time dimension in the SSAS using wizard. But when i tried to process the new time dimension i'm getting the follwoing error message
    "Errors in the high-level relational engine. The data source view does not contain a definition for "SSASTIMEDIM" the table or view. The Source property may not have been set."
    Can anyone please tell me why i cannot create a new measure average over the time using my time dimension? Also what am i doing wrong with the SSASTIMEDIM, that i'm getting the error.
    Thanks

    Hi PMunshi,
    According to your description, you get the above error when processing the time dimension. Right?
    In this scenario, since you have updated the DSV, it should have no problem on the table existence. One possibility is that table has been specified for tracking in the notifications for proactive caching, but isn't available any more for some
    reason. Please change the setting in Proactive Caching into "MOLAP".

    i have question.i have created a z table related to pp module.the requirement is to maintain {table maintenance view} for this z table.how could this be done.can any one suggest me the code for this?

    Hi ,
    We have a lots of queries on table maintainance creation in the forum posted and replied to.Pls have a look at it first.
    In se11 -> change mode of the ztable -> goto -> utilities -> table maintainance generator -> click on it...
    it will give a new screen-> enter the required details like function group , authorisation(use &NC& or leave it blank if you dont know)  and screens
    2 step and 1 step means=> number of screens displayed in maintainace
    if step1 is selected then we have a screen which will be like a table control for data entry.........
    for step2 we have a table control screen and a more detailed individual field display as second screen
    click on the button 'find screen numbers' so that system automatically proposes the screen numbers
    after which click on the "create" button and follow the required instructions/messages
    once done go to SM30 enter the table name to check if maintainance has been created properly
    Hope it helps,Pls check and revert

  • A newbie problem - Why 'ORA-00942: table or view does not exist'

    Hi,
    I am a newbie having a very basic problem.
    I have just created a table by reading in a CSV file.
    However when I try to SELECT from it, I get an error message saying :-
    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    How can this be when I can see the table name ?
    I have tried a couple of things that I found in the Discussion Forum, like 'ALTER SCHEMA' and 'GRANT SELECT'.
    Neither seemed sensible because I have just created a table, and sure enough, neither helped.
    It's disappointing that something so basic can go wrong.
    I will be very grateful for any advice.

    This tool and forum is awesome. I'm a developer that was never touched HTMLDB and now with in a month I'm developing applications quickly and when I have a question I have this active forum to ask my sometimes stupid and othertimes valid questions! This is great! I don't know where you all find the time to help out so much!
    It is a little addicting though... I find myself sitting down Saturday morning just to spend a couple of minutes reading the posts and next thing I know hours have gone by as I use what I read because I can't wait until Monday...
    Thank you all for everything!!!! HTMLDB, APEX, Javascript and now in another post I'm learning about "Fine Grained Access Control" or "Virtual Private Database".

  • Using an event in table maintenance view to populate a field

    I have a table maintenance view, and I would like to populate one field of the table with derived data. I am trying to do this by coding a routine for one of the events, but so far no luck. I have been able to chege the data in the TOTAL table, but still it does not populate the field on the screen.
    Note this is not for one row as it is entered, but I want all rows of the table displayed to show this field with derived data.
    So the question is: what is the correct event to use, and what is the correct internal table to update? Can I make changes to EXTRACT or TOTAL to do this?
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

    Hi Rob,
    Sorry for being lazy; I'll close this and off and search :-}

  • Table maintenance view - tcode

    Hi experts,
    We have a tcode (already in production) created for table maintenace view of z-table.
    Everything is working fine.
    Now I added one new field to the z-table and changed the table maintenance view accordingly. In SM30 I can maintain the table without difficulties - the new field is visible and maintenable. However, when I call the transaction code created for this view, it doesn't have the new field yet.  I tried a lot but without success to update the tcode accordingly.
    How can I get the tcode adjusted with the new field?
    Thanks for your advise and help in advance!

    It's about one week you asked the question, but I answer in case you didn't understand what happened:
    First, screens 1000-1010 can't be used in a table maintenance dialog (an error is mentioned by SAP when you try to use these numbers). So, I really don't understand how you can get 1000 in your table view!
    So, I think that your transaction is linked to a custom program (not the SM30 view). So you just need to adapt manually the custom program. Note: maybe the program is a partial copy of the SM30 function group, so maybe you may just copy the dynpro 1000 of the SM30 function group  to the dynpro 1001 of your custom program...
    Note: when you want to create a transaction which is linked to a table maintenance view (SM30), you must define a Z* transaction of type parameter, with reference to SM30 transaction, select "skip initial screen", do not choose any dynpro, and choose VIEWNAME = your view and UPDATE = X as parameter values.

  • Why Table or View does not exist???

    Hi to all. I have an issue with my Business Objects. I have a relationship between two entities with the following cardinality:
    EntityA 1......* Entity B, the relation is a composition and the IDs for them are DB Sequence.
    I have created the corresponding views and the view link and they all work fine in the Application Module. Also, in the View Object for the EntityA ( ViewObjectA ), I have created a View Criteria, a nested one, with two attributes: the first one is an att from the*ViewObjectA* and use a value from a bind variable (Integer), and the second one is an attribute from the Entity B son and it's value is static (1). I tested with the query button and says OK. When I run the AppModule for test the ViewCriteria, I got this error: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist . And for my sorprise, I checked the query resultant and it's wrong!! Please see an example below:
    SELECT Att1,Att2 FROM EntityA WHERE ( ( ( (EntityA.att1 = :id ) AND (EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM EntityBNQ1 EntityBNQ1 WHERE ( (*EntityBDNQ1.att1 = :id*) ) AND ( EntityA.att1 = EntityBDNQ1.att1 ))) ) ) ) AND (EntityA.att1 = EntityBDNQ1.Att1))) ) ) )
    As can be seen, the name of the tabla for the EntityB has NQ1 attached, and I don't know why. The view link works perfectly, as also the create operation for both ViewsObjects.
    Please can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, if I have a mistake? What should I do??
    Thanks in advance.
    PS: In a new application, I created a Business Components from DataBase, and it works my WiewCriteria. I just can't believe that I should start all over again.
    Thanks in advance again.
