QuickTime can't play stream

I've tried everything? to play the apple webcast with no luck.
*Changin port in preferences
*Deleting .plist
*Creating a new user
*Deleting QT and reinnstalling
Nothing seems to work, it plays fine with a windows computer on the same internet connection.
Any ideas of what i can do next??

I experienced this same problem and tried most of the ideas presented to you so far. I experimented with my router, firewall, various speed of streaming settings, etc. After reading your post and the associated ones, I felt that I was chasing the problem the wrong way and that what I was seeing was some sort of basic configuration problem. So, I had Quicktime player open with the Apple webcast attempting to play. I hit "pause" and changed the quicktime transport settings under the advanced tab of the quicktime preferences control panel. Each time I changed the setting, I pressed "play" on the viewer to see if the movie would play properly. It didn't (I pressed "pause" after each failure}, but I went through all of the choices and eventually set it back to "automatic". Then I went to the streaming tab and, with streaming speed set to "Automatic", deselected the "Enable Instant On" check box. I tried the player again and it still wouldn't play properly. I quit the Quicktime player and on a hunch relaunched the player and selected the webcast from "recent files". It played flawlessly! I have tried quitting and re-launching several times. It seems permanently "fixed". Whatever misconfiguration was happening seems to be cleared. I have given you all of the annoying detail because I'm not sure which setting, when combined with quitting the player, is the magic combination. I have since turned "Instant On" back on and streaming still works. I think if you try the same procedure it may clear your problem.

  • My quicktime can't play avi file

HI everyone does someone know why my latest quicktime can't play avi file?

Let me tell you what are you doing wrong...
you just followed the wrong road try this one instead and you will love it.
*1st of all*: Dont pay attention to QuickTime, no matter what movie you want to view
just download and install VLC Media Player and your worries about formats, video codecs, audio codecs, multi zone dvd reproduction will be over in a sec!
just "open as" > VLC Media Player and you will see everything and if you have a subtitle file, just drag it into the movie

  • QuickTime can't play H264+AAC file??

    I have a H264+AAC file,
it played on VLC player is ok,
but it can't play on QuickTime,
have any tool can detect what's wrong?
    is it incorrect file format?

Maybe you can learn a bit more about this mysterious movie. In quicktime (and probably VLC too) there is an Inspector (in Quicktime it's invoked by Window->Inspector or Command-I. It may provide more information about the nature of the video even if it's not playing normally.
If you can post a screen shot of an Inspector window maybe we can be more helpful.

  • Latest version of itunes does not support Quicktime can not play movie from library

Latest version of Itunes does not support Quicktime.  I can not play movies out of my itunes.  Please fix

I don't usually download video from the iTunes store. I had a couple of long plane rides coming up and thought I might have time to watch the Stanford IOS7 programming class. On the plane I discovered this issue which has gone unaddressed since 2011 and has been worsened in Mavericks. in 2011 the advice was to open iTunes' get info pane and click run in 32 bit. That worked at least for some people. In Mavericks, iTunes will not launch in 32 bit.
For the files you can locate in the finder ( mine are at
    /Users/raine001/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Media/iTunes\ U/Developing\ iOS\ 7\ Apps\ for\ iPhone\ and\ iPad/1.\ Class\ Logistics\,\ Overview\ of\ iOS\,\ MVC\,\ Objective-C.mp4
) you can click on the file in the finder and it will launch in QuickTime. For some reason on the plane I could see the first lecture in the iTunes view but, although I could see all the other lectures in the finder, I could not see the first one.
Ah well, maybe some other year I'll think about getting up to speed on ios7. Heck, maybe by then they will design a decent user experience.

  • Can't play Mpeg-1 in Quicktime; Can't play MPEG-1 on MPEG Streamclip

This is happening on new 15" MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. I am preparing to edit the converted MPEGs in FCP 5.14. In Quicktime, when I click to open the MPEG-1 file in Finder, I get the error message:
"The document “M2U00090.MPG” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands."
In MPEG Streamclip on the otherhand, when you drag the video on to app, it doesn't appear as an image. Just a status bar. The disclaimer in Mpeg Streeamclip says you should be able work with MPEG-1's without the MPEG2 component, which it recognized as being absent.

When I loaded the MPEG file into MPEG Streamclip, it prompted me to go to Apple's website and purchase the MPEG-2 component for $19.99. I went ahead and did this and I am set now on MPEG Streamclip. However, Quicktime still can't play them But what I really want to do is convert the files right away to DV on MPSTRMCLP. So I'm good. Unless anyone can answer the QT side of this problem.

  • Quicktime can't play xvid and I have no library/quicktime folder

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a codec for xvid on my new macbook pro and instructions tell me to drop the xvid codec file in the library/quicktime folder off my home folder.
    There is none.
I tried creating one and dropping it in there but the video still doesn't play so I'm thinking it has to do with the folder not being there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Jody

on the mac there are two different Library folders (one for each user, and one for the system). the Quick Time folder you are looking for is probably in the system library folder, which you can get to by going through Macintosh HD>Library>Quicktime.

  • Quicktime can´t play .mov files

Iphoto doesn´t recognize movies from iphone (.mov files)
When I attach my iphone to import movies I made with my iphone 4 into iphoto, Iphoto tell´s me it can´t read the format (.mov files).
Quicktime cannot play .mov files either. I reinstalles ILife´11, that didn´t help. Importing the files into imovie doesn´t work either, because imovie always crashes. I can´t drag and drop the movies from my iphone via iphoto to my desktop - does anyone know how to do that?
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Been to the Genius Bar, but they couldn´t help.

In case anyone has the same problem, this was my solution:
    1. install Quicktime 7 from your old snow leopard CD, don´t download from the internet
    2. then follow the instructions that Neutronjon gave in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3211124?start=0&tstart=0, if you have the same error message
I have had this problem for a year now, tried all sorts of things, and this finally worked!

  • Safari can't play streamed video properly.

    Hello everyone.
The problem I am dealing with deals with any sort of video streamed from the internet from places like youtube. The video will not play UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MOUSE MOVING WITHIN THE VIDEO'S WINDOW. That includes both sound and video. I've tried IE and Firefox and they work without problems. If I need to give for info just leave a post asking what you need.
    Thanks in advance, Blake.

Yes. It is kinda a bit of a joke. I believe Apple has to put those videos in HTML5 for it to be viewable on the iPhone. They have been raving about HTML5 all along so it's a bit of a joke that this keynote stream is not available. If you watch their other videos on the site, it's perfectly ok. But to not be able to watch even ONE video from APPLE.COM on an Apple product is embarassing.

  • Quicktime can't play avi or mpg files!?!?!

    Hello all,
quicktime is telling me it cannot open files with avi and mpg. I tried to open a movie clip i was downloading and it gave me that message. When I try to do the same in windows partition I can but with windows media player, haven't tried quicktime for windows....what gives??

Howdy, there are at least two Quicktime add ons that most Mac users download to watch videos on the web. One is flip4mac and the other is Perian.org. Check those out. If that doesn't fix it post back.

  • Quicktime doesn't play streaming

Using Lion, I have a website that has embedded quicktime content.  It won't play and I just get a black box.   So I did some searching and found nothing.  I suspected the browser, but I tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox and none would work.
I then went to Apple's website for movie trailers (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/)  and when I select any trailer to play I get a popup that says "Get Quicktime.  Download Quicktime to view this video".  If I click it a webpage loads that says "Quicktime is built into Mac OS X".
This works on my Snow Leopard machine and my Mac Pro running Lion, but not on my Macbook Pro.
I've exhausted ideas to resolve.    Anyone?  Very frustrated.

  • Can't play streaming video on macbook pro

have been sent a video taken 4 days ago, but when I press on the 'play' icon the screen just goes blank !

    Hi
    Sorry to hear about that.
When you say "died" you mean there is no video output?
Does your Mac pass POST? (makes chime noise on boot), and does the Capslock key LED go green if you press it? If not, then you may have a power related issue, not video.
Also, what model do you have (year/processor/GPU)
Please try an SMC & PRAM reset.
    Cheers

  • QuickTime Won't Play Streams

I've been trying to watch the keynote but my player just seems to buffer for ever, is there a port I need to open up on my router?

Have you tried to change the QuickTime Transport Setup to Custom: HTTP?

  • After win7 updates today (May 12) can't play videos, ie iplayer, in Firefox, but can play them in IE

Using 64-bit Windows 7; after several MS updates installed today can't play streaming vidoes (eg. bbc iplayer) in Firefox. Can play them in IE7 though but want to solve this as Firefox is my primary browser. On the streaming page I just get a blank instead of the video screen box part of the page.

Sorry I don't. It just happens at random and usually most YouTube videos and other similar styled videos. I'm not really a tech guy but it just seems like there is something else going on. Everything else on my PC works fine except when I want to open a video using flash. It isn't just one site or one video it is nearly every flash video and it's almost like they're loading one at a time except in no order if there is more than one tab. Even if it is just one video, it takes a long time to load.
Imagine going to YouTube to load up a vid and the controls or progrss bar never load, it just stops and only a solid black box is displayed. Eventually the controls load and it seems like it's about to play at any moment.. only the waiting lasts 5 minutes. Even if you refresh it still has to do this all over again.

  • Playing streaming video

Can you play streaming video or is there the possibilty of an update that will allow you to play streaming video from a web site?

Sorry for not posting the solution guys. Here it is.
Follow the link in the error message we get when we try to watch the sportsline video without the necessary plug-in.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/WindowsMedia_Player#Missingplugin
Then scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a bunch of links to plug-ins for Mac users. I don't remember which one I clicked on, but I know it was pretty easy to figure out, given the fact that I did. Good luck. I hope this helps.
