Quicktime getting rid of Subtitles
Hi. I have recently downloaded many mkv files. When I play them in quicktime, I automatically get subtitles and cannot get rid of them. When I play the same files in vlc, I do not get subtitles immediately but it comes on when I put it on. Does anyone know how to get rid of subtitles in mkv files when playing in quicktime?
THANKS a lot for helping me out. However I have one more question you may be able to answer. When I took out the subtitles like you told me to, it asked me to save it. So I did. It saved it as a mov file instead of a mkv file. The size of both files are about exactly the same as well. I was just wondering if the mov file is a little lower quality than the mkv file. THANKS in advance

How do i get rid of subtitles on a movie
I have downloaded Captain America from iTunes and it has subtitles - how di i get rid of them?
If the movie allows it, there should be a way to reveal the settings while playing the movie. But I'm guessing there might be another version of the movie to purchase without subtitles.
I know you can change this on itunes on a computer in itunes prefernces. -
How to get rid of title bar of a quicktime window?
The main problem:
I want to display the title info etc about each track as they play in iTunes. How can I do that on an otherwise black screen (desktop) (I don't want to use the visualizer with its psychedelic patterns).
Background:
I want to play music from iTunes (many pieces in a row - for like a full day). While this is happening I want the title etc of the tune to be displayed on the screen, like white smallish text against a black background in the lower right hand corner. At the same time I want slides to be displayed on the screen.
So, with iPhoto I can run a slide show but only while one piece of music is playing.
Instead I can have the desktop slowly change (from system preferences) with images from a folder every 5 seconds. That's not too bad. Looks good, actually, except for that annoying menu bar at the top! Well, black tape can hide that one (or a second display and move it over there). Now iTunes can play away all day.
As to how to get the title etc of the song playing displayed I was thinking about somehow extracting it from iTunes with applescript, then paste it into the text track of a quicktime movie, and display that little movie in a small window. I have figured out how to get rid of the controller from the window. But, I can not figure out how to get the title bar of the quicktime window to go away - that is I want a window with nothing around it, neither controllers nor title bar nor anything. How do I create such a window. Any good ideas out there?
Or is there a totally different way of obtaining the same effect?
Thanks.
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)Hi,
You could try posting at the QuickTime discussion area. There might be an iTunes visualizer that allows you to make a slideshow with track info. It has been a while since I tried making a SMIL file, but I think you could do what you want with that. Not sure how you create a streaming text of track information. I would have to do some reviewing.

How do I get rid of the "white banner" that reads "cut" when in Quicktime?
I've cut a piece in FCP and exported it as a QT movie....when I view it in QT, stream it on the internet, or view it on my iPod, it has a white banner that reads "cut" how do I get rid of this? And do I need to re-export it?
Thankswhile not exporting markers is one way to cure this, it's not very effective if you do want to place your chapter markers in fcp and also maybe place some compression markers. i usually place chapter markers in fcp and don't have an issue with the quicktime text track rearing it's head. do a search in the dvd sp forum, this comes up a lot. here's one thread. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1088176􉪰

Quicktime Pro - get rid of excess file size
Hi,
I have FCS2 on some computers, but not on others (licensing) so I want to use Qt Pro to do simple editing on those.. mainly to cut off extra blank footage when I capture too much from an analog source.
I know how to edit the footage in QT Pro, but even though the finder shows the new duration, and if I import it into FCP it shows the new duration, the finder shows the file size as the original huge size..
Eg. I capture a 30 min tape, but let the capture run for 2 hrs say.. So the DV codec file I have is 25 Gb or so.. I edit it down to the 30 mins, and it shows in Finder as having this new 30 min duration, but the Finder also says the 30 min file is still 25GB.
I understand non-destructive editing in FCP, and one can use Media Management to get rid of the excess footage.. (to kinda make it destructive..?)
Is Quicktime Pro a non-destructive editor only? I'd love it if someone could tell em that it's not... that with a certain quick action or two I could scuttle the excess footage without having to go through an export scenario..
PeteIs Quicktime Pro a non-destructive editor only?
No, not as long as you trim the content to your selection and then saved the result as a separate, independent file. (Most use the "standalone" option here and either archive or delete the original content.)
I know how to edit the footage in QT Pro, but even though the finder shows the new duration, and if I import it into FCP it shows the new duration, the finder shows the file size as the original huge size..
Just ran a quick test on my system (G5 2.0 PPC under Leopard 10.5.8 using QT Pro 7.6.4 and FCP v6.0.6) with the result that the Finder Info, QT 7 Inspector, and FCP Properties windows all agreed that the trimmed content file was indeed smaller (in my case about half the size) than my original file. -
How to get rid of Quicktime "image" on top right of converted file
I just converted a WMV file to both MOV and MP4 formats. There is a Quicktime graphic on the top right now that looks like a circular button with the play icon in it. I have a fully licensed version of Quicktime Pro v.7. How can I get rid of that image (which comes across kind of like a watermark)?
If you're converting WMV, you're probably using Flip4Mac as part of the QuickTime conversion process. The graphic is likely a Flip4Mac watermark. See: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6418932.

How to get rid of Quicktime logo
Hello folks,
thanks to James and his advice I had managed to post my videoclip on the website the way I wanted. (make it start to play right away as a loop without controller being attached to it)
But there is one little problem, which I did not notice until now. Before the clip starts to play, Quicktime logo appears for about 2-3 seconds. Than it dissapears and clip shows up and starts to play. Does anyone know how to get rid of that logo?
Thanks for any tip or advice.
videomanI think this has to do with another setting that is available in QuickTime Pro....something like faststart or something like that. Basically, I think the QuickTime logo is being displayed while your movie is downloaded and your movie doesn't start until it is fully downloaded.
I think you may be able to run your QT movie through iSquint and get the faststart thing activated if you don't have access to QTpro...
http://www.isquint.org
Just push the quality slider to FULL and in the advanced panel enter in your movie dimensions. I don't know if this will do the trick, but it's worth a try. Otherwise, you should be able to enable faststart in QuickTime pro. -

Can't get rid of horizontal lines bordering quicktime
I am putting a movie slideshow over a white background and the las clip is white to give it a "dissappearing" affect. However there are horizontal black lines bordering the player. How do I get rid of? -paul
No, I'm just plugging a HDMI cable into my macbook to see how it looks on a tv screen. I want to put it on youtube and show it at some places later on, if the lines dissappear.
Here are 2 screenshots, where the first one is without 'show both fields' and the second one with 'show both fields'.
You see the blurriness especially on the persons on the right. -
I downloaded a bad file. How do I get rid of it?
I downloaded a program which was supposed to provide subtitles to un-subtitled torrents. It was a bad file since it has screwed up my computer. I mean in a way that it shows pop-up ads in places that should not have pop-up ads (for example, Facebook, Netflix, shopping sites, and anywhere else), sometimes an ad will pop up in another tab if I click on something unsuspecting, and it also turns un-linked words into links (but I haven't clicked on them ever). I've tried throwing away the program in the trash and I've even emptied my trash but it's done nothing. I figured looking for the files to the program and throwing them out will get rid of them. The thing is, I don't wanna throw out files that I need and I don't even know where to look for the files to the program to trash them. I'm not an expert in knowing what files this program has and what files my computer needs.
I currently have the latest OS X (Mavericks) installed. I've known new OS X to erase old bad stuff and basically start fresh. Should I wait until Yosemite comes out to think about doing anything? Would a cleaning program even get rid of it? I've had it for 2 weeks and it's driving me nuts. There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine item from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

Can't get rid of thin outline around embedded movie?
...even after setting it to "Invisible Rectangle" in the settings box.
I'm trying to get a flash animation, converted to quicktime movie (imported with legacy format option), embedded into the PDF, and then playing as the page becomes visible (i.e. the look you'd get if you were using powerpoint)
test file attached...
This is my 2nd preference as I was trying to get my flash animation embedded into my InDesign file which then was to be exported to PDF... but when I tried both quicktime movie and SWF it caused my Acrobat to "unexpectedly quit"... again and again... so after much frustration have given up and was trying to embed the quicktime movie into the PDF - which will be take up much more time as it's a 150 pg presentation in InDesign and every time I send the PDF for approval I will need to reimport the movies into the PDF... but at least it doesn't crash out... BUT just can't get rid of the thin black line around the movie.
I convinced the client to do the 150pg presentation in InDesign not powerpoint (as has been done previously) but need to offer them the same offering as powerpoint with all the animation - which I thought would be no problem with importing flash files into InDesign - but I'm finding it fraught with difficulties!
They'll be wishing they used Powerpoint!
Any help would be so much appreciated
PS using Adobe CS4, Mac OSX 10.4, Acrobat 9Thanks very much for the response Sandee. I tried your suggestion of the Annotation option and this worked! - wonderful.. altho this test now works for me I'd still love to get it working from InDesign.
What I'm trying to achieve... my client had 5 powerpoint presentations that need updating with new branding (totally about 160 pages - with about 20 basic animations - i.e. flashing lights on products etc).
I sold him on the idea of using InDesign/PDF rather than powerpoint - but am needing to find an easy solution for the animations. So I've been working on this test file. Have self taught myself on a basic flash animation (from Lynda.com)... and tried importing both SWF and QT .MOV into InDesign and then exporting to PDF and when it loaded up in Acrobat it would always "unexpectedly quit" upon opening... even after trying different versions of PDF compatibility and restarting etc.
Is there something obvious that I'm not doing right?
Also if I get it to work, does that mean that my client and all their staff around the world will need to be Acrobat Reader 9?
Thanks again for your time and help

I have a big problem: how do I get rid of a persistent keylogger?
I did a reinstall of OS Snow Leopard and that totally solved my keylogger problem:
1. My computer was no longer slow, it didn't keep making constant noises as if there was a process in the background when I wasn't using my computer
2. All websites loaded super quickly and there wasn't this horrible 5 second lag when I typed something or a skip in videos when I watched something...
but then,,,,,2 days later....
as I was in gmail, MY SCREEN WENT TOTALLY WHITE
and I had to restart my computer...and now THIS ANNOYING KEYLOGGER problem has returned.
How do I get rid of the a*hole who is targeting my computer? I don't have time to reinstall Snow Leopard again and again. How can I get rid of this annoying keylogger that is making my computer SUPER SLOW?I have to note here that when I launch Activity Monitor- for some reason this computer has loads of inactive processes running ALL THE TIME, when my other computers do not have this problem.

How do I get rid of the start-up window?
I've just installed QuickTime, but when it started I was presented with a window full of advertising. I cannot find anything on the menu allowing me to disable that gross display. How can I get rid of this start-up headache? Thank you for any helpful advice you can render.
That does not work, actually. I've ben using QT PRo for ages, and ever since version 0, it NEVER saved or remembered my preferences. Once I set my preferences up, it does remember it for the current windows session. But once I restart my machine everything is back to square one. It's been like that for years, actually. This is very annoying sometimes. Makes you wonder if apple "engineers" know how to write code?
Windows XP Pro SP3 (long time ago SP1, SP2 currently SP3)
But years ago I used WinXP Home as well
QT Pro preferences were never saved or remembered.
