Quicktime Pop-up videos on my webpage

Forgive me for my inexperience - first time on a forum...
I am using FrontPage to design my webpage and working in Windows Internet Explorer.
*WHAT I'M TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH:*
On my webpage I want to have a selection of photos that link to (.mp4) videos. Clicking on a photo should open a smaller pop-up window (preferably without the blue browser border) with just the Quicktime player and the associated video, where the user can move the new window anywhere he wants while still viewing my webpage AND he can manipulate the video using the Quicktime buttons.
*HERE'S WHAT I HAVE SO FAR (BESIDES GREY HAIR):*
I have small photos (meant to be like links) and have created a "behavior" to "Open Browser Window" and play the associated video for each photo.
*WHAT I DESPERATELY NEED HELP WITH:*
1) I am not using a hyperlink on the photos to open the video (which I've tried) because they take the user to another browser window from which they have to hit the back key to return the the previous web page. If the user tries to close the window, he exits from my webpage completely. Consequently, by not using a hyperlink, there's no "hand" to indicate there's a video or a link to something else.
2) When in FrontPage and I Preview using Internet Explorer everything seems to work perfect (except the "hand" indicating a link is not there). However, when I publish, only the first photo opens and runs in the small pop-up window. When I click on the other photos a pop-up appears with a white background, looks like it's downloading and then nothing happens.
3) For the one video that plays, the player doesn't display much functionality and doesn't look anywhere near as nice as the Quicktime player that opens when I just click on the video from Explorer... that player doesn't have a browser box around it and it has a Quicktime menu at the top and at the botton it has large navigation buttons to select for Play, Rewind, Forward etc. It's much more professional looking. But first things first... gotta get those videos to play however I can.

Look at the Poster Movie example code. A poster movie acts as a "placeholder" for your QuickTime file or it can also call the QuickTime Player (bypassing the plug-in).
The poster can be a still image file saved as a QuickTime .mov file (requires the Pro upgrade) and the extra html code to target="quicktimeplayer" in the object and embed tags.

You have clarify whether you're creating an interactive PDF or a SWF export. (If you're doing this for the Adobe Digital Publishing platform for the iPad, you need to ask in the DPS forum.)
I would place a button on the map (probably with a label). Set the action for the button to play the video. The video won't be able to be placed over the map in a PDF file. (In a SWF file, you might be able to animate it onto the page.). Give the movie no poster, but give it a controller.
The movie will be embedded in the page, and will play when you click the button in the PDF or SWF file. If you want it to float above the page in a PDF, you can edit it in Acrobat. Choose the Select Object tool in Acrobat X (Tools > Content > Select Object). Select the movie. Right-click and choose Properties. In the Properties dialog box, choose Playback Style > Play Content in Floating Window. Save the PDF file.

How do I insert video into my webpage?

I am using Dreamweaver 8. I have taken my camcorder video and uploaded it to youtube and copied the mp4 file to my hard drive.
I have created a page with several videos on the page. I created a screenshot of the video and sized it to the appropriate size. I then created a link to the video mp4 file. However it opens in a separate page.
I want to have the video open on the same page in the same location as the screenshot. Click on the image and it just starts playing.
I notice that I can get it to do this if it is a flash (.flv) file but since all of my videos are mp4 that won't work.
How do I insert video into my webpage? Do I convert the mp4 files to flash? How? What do I do?

Making Quicktime slide shows (videos) with Windows

Hello. With the Mac platform, I am able to use my photo program, iPhoto, export photos from it and make a Quicktime slide show (video, with accompanying music from my music program, iTunes. Is this also possible with Windows, ie: where would the 'Export' command be and how would music be integrated into it? Any other helpful comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can open many different audio and image formats with the Windows version of QuickTime Pro. To assemble a slide show of still images you could open a folder of liked sized, sequentially named images and add that new file "scaled" to the audio track.
You could also open the audio track and "add scaled to selection" your individual image files. This method would allow you set the duration of each slide to different values but would limit your show to 98 images (99 track limit).
This method could also use different image dimensions, different "offsets", transparency "blends" and mask layers. Depending on your intended distribution format you could make HD sized QuickTime movies with multiple images displaying simultaneously (Brady Bunch style).

But be prepared for the learning curve on Motion. After several years, I find it opaque and insanely frustrating compared to After Effects.
Creating the bubble effect isn't all that difficult, there may even be several elements in the Library that will adapt easily. The hard parts, the parts that will make you animation elegant and cool, are tweaking the keyframes or behaviors so the movements are non-linear and have some Looney Tunes-like class and personality to them. That is a far more difficult thing to do.

In this case, it looks like Quicktime wasn't very efficient in managing memory, leading to a slowdown in playback. If QT has a lag and VLC doesn't, that's more evidence.
I couldn't say why your friend's windows computer plays the media fine, while your Mac doesn't. The only thing I could suggest is to disable QT streaming video - which has been known to slow down performance.

How to use Quicktime to record video chats (Skype, Google Hangouts)?

I'm making a movie that includes an interview of someone who lives out of state. Thanks to modern technology, I can interview her without either of us having to travel farther than our computers. But, thanks to modern technology, shouldn't there also be a way for me to record this interview for my movie?
I've figured out how to use QuickTime Player to take a screen recording that includes the audio from the computer, but there are several problems with this.
I downloaded Soundflower, set the Sound Output to "Soundflower (2ch)" in my System Preferences, then went to QuickTIme, where I started a screen recording and set the Microphone to "Soundflower (2ch)". With a test run using music, I was able to capture the moving playhead and the audio. The audio was pretty good, but not quite as good as if I were just listening to the music normally.
However, this process won't work for an interview setting. While I was recording, I wasn't able to hear the music on my headphones. Only afterwards was I able to hear the music. This means that if I were interviewing someone, Quicktime would be recording her voice but I wouldn't be able to hear what she was saying until after I replayed the video. Also, I have no idea if the person on the other end of the video chat would be able to hear me (I did leave the sound Input to "Internal microphone" with no trouble from Quicktime).
Is there a way to have Quicktime record the video and audio and for me to hear what's going on at the same time?
If not, what [free] software does this?

10.6, new quicktime and blank video

I have a Samsung SC-MX20 digital video camera, in records h.264 format files. Worked fine in quicktime 7 (and still works fine with version 7 after install of 10.6) but when I play the files out of the camera in the new 10.6 quicktime player, the video is blank, have a black screen. Audio works but no picture.
Why would this be?

Ok, just tried on my imac, 10.6.2 (same as my macbook) and the mp4 videos play fine in the quicktime 10.0 player but don't play on my macbook.

What is the best pop-up video player for flash?

I am looking for the best way to create/find a pop-up video player for my flash site.
Meaning, clicking on thumbnails on a site and a new window/video player pops up.
I would love to use Vimeo, but I can work with YourTube if that is all there is.
Any suggestions?

The big blue button in the middle of the page is a Flash .swf which communicates to javascript to show/hide a <div> containing a Flash video player. In this case it's not a separate pop-up window but an overlay. the important thing is that you can communicate between Flash and javascript, which will do the pop-up.
So yes, you can create pretty much any type of pop-up you want. You'll be using actionscript in your tumbnails to communicate with javascript which will pop-open the window.
In AS2 you use getURL or ExternalInterface to communicate with javascript.

For a pop-up window, you still need to create a second, actual html web page to hold the video player... embed Vimeo or whatever player you want.

If you are looking for more of the overlay type, like the link I posted above, the layout is a little different, you'll just be displaying a <div> which will hold your player instead of a whole separate page. Then you can use javascript show/hide:

So in your Flash, you use a thumbnail as a button which communicates to the javascript in the HTML section of your Web page (remember, there is no such thing as a Flash Web page, only HTML, PHP, ASP, etc pages which may happen to have some Flash content). The javascript then responds by opening a pop-up window which displays another HTML web page that you have created and has the Vimeo player displayed on that second, popup page.

most of these solutions usually require you to click on a thumbnail image before you see something but I would like to think the javascript would allow for mouseOver events as well.

VH1 pop up video plugin?

I'm an amature imovie user, looking for a way to add an plugin to imovie similar to that seen in VH1's pop up video. Trying to add the "pop up" information bubbles for a wedding video under production. Has anyone seen anything like this or know where one could go about finding one?

I think your question is too vague to get an answer.
You're asking for a 'Universal Binary component' for your 'Intel-based Macintosh'. Why universal binary?
universal binaries are designed to work on both PowerPC and Intel machines. If you're using an Intel machine why do you need PowerPC support?
Also, you want something that 'allows QuickTime to show video'. Well, not to be glib, but QuickTIme does video - that's it's raison d'etre. Therefore I think your question is more about how to get QuickTime to show a specific (non-standard?) video format. Without knowing what that format is, it's impossible to answer your question directly.
That said, maybe the place to start is Apple's QuickTime Components index.

You're right. It wasn't QuickTime itself. I solved all the problems myself.
The main reason why QuickTime files weren't working was because the newest audio driver from Creative released July 2007 (using their autoupdate) is apparently for Windows Vista (it has the name Vista in the update title). Why that update showed up on my Windows XP Pro system, I have no idea. So, I went to Creative's site and got the driver before the latest release, and all works well.
The Microsoft update (from June 2007, I noticed today, not July) is another issue. It's based around the file P17RunE.dll, which is something from Microsoft for the SoundBlaster. Not sure what it does, but I don't need it.
Sorry for wasting all your time on a non QuickTime issue, but thanks for the help.
