QuicktimeX and Quicktime7 playback problem using Snow Leopard

I have tried playing back a ProRes 1080 QT on multiple SnowLeopard computers, but on all cpus the video stutters as QT drops frame. Using the Info window in QT you can see the Playing FPS rate drop below that actual FPS rate.
That same movie plays on any of these computers running 10.5...I booted them all off of an external drive running 10.5. I have also had the same issue playing H264 with a data rate of 5Mbps.
Stats:
MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz, 10.6.2, playing a QT via a G-Raid firewire drive (via either FW800 or eSata) or internal hard drive, QuicktimeX or Quicktime7. Again, this exact scenario happened on 3 different computers.
Any thoughts?

  • Svg.xml problem using snow leopard

I've always been able to download free svg files. Now that I have installed Snow Leopard, when I download a svg file, it will read svg.xml and I am not able to download. What is this attachment it's adding on so I can't download. I even uploaded a svg picture to share in a website with friends. Just for fun, I pretended to need it and downloaded the picture. Snow Leopard added xml to it and even I couldn't download my own picture. What is going on? Perhaps it is something very simple that you could tell me to do. Thanks so very much. Cely in SC

  • WMV Playback Problems with Snow Leopard

With Leopard, WMV files on my hard drive played almost instantly. I had Quicktime 7 Pro and Flip4Mac (free version). Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard, WMV files go through a tedious load process which often slows down playback. Whereas AVI files play instantly. Why do WMV files take so long to process? What can I do to speed their payback?

Quicktime Snow Leopard is a MAJOR step backwards and causes huge problems when trying to play back WMV files - the files may start to load and play in a reasonable timeframe, but it can take 1/2 hour or more to load large WMV files, and you cannot fast forward to the end of the video until the file has finished "loading". I expect much more when forced to pay for Flip4Mac to see what everyone else on the internet can play for free. This is reminiscent of the old 56k dial up days - WAY TO GO MAC. My new PC is on it's way... ya lost me.

  • Imac problems using Snow Leopard 10.6.1

I have been running my Imac perfectly with no problems at all on 10.5 but having recently installed 10.6.1 it has started playing up.
On startup it sometimes freezes with no key or mouse movement at all which needs a rear button restart to cure it and if the Mac goes into sleep mode it will not be woken by space bar, mouse click or anything but a rear button restart.
Does anyone have the same problem or know of a cure?

I feel your pain, snow leopard is a disaster for many people. Even with a fresh install there are still issues. its best to go back to leopard until apple finally puts out fixes that many are waiting for for 2 months. back up your files and re install 10.5, apple can't be trusted the way they used to.

  • How can I take lion off of my MacBook Pro and go back to using Snow Leopard

How can I take lion off of my MacBook Pro because it has too much problems with the new operating system, I have talked to Apple support for both computers and still nothing happens I think they know that there's something wrong and they don't know how to fix it are there working on fixing it. So how can I put snow leopard Mac on my computer so that it works every time, there's a lot of good features in Lion but there's a lot of bad features and especially when it comes to turning on your computer and the memory that it has held so if one item is missing then it doesn't work and you have to reboot the computer to get it to work but I still like my Mac.

  • How do I uninstall Lion and go back to using Snow Leopard

I installed Lion and it raves havoc with my Epson printer, Microsoft Explorer mouse, and I can't use 2004 MS Word.
I just want to it (Lion) GO AWAY!

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If those don't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of compressed air. Chances are that your drive has failed, join the club it's not all that uncommon. You can either have it replaced or purchase an inexpensive external drive. Don't buy the cute little Apple USB Superdrive, it won't work on macs with internal drives working or not.

I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

  • Trouble reading CDs and DVDs on MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard

My MacBook Pro will not read CDs or DVDs when using snow leopard but will read just fine with windows.  Very frustrating.  It is not an optical reader problem. Anybody suggest a permanent fix?  I tried someone's weird suggestion that works for awhile:  Change the language setting from English to another language in "preferences" restart the computer and then change back to English.  It works for one CD.

  • I currently use Snow Leopard and Microsoft Word, Excel and Entourage o my Mac.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, can I still use those applications?

I currently use Snow Leopard with Microsoft Word, Excel and Entourage on my iMac.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, can I still use those applications?

If the Microsoft Office is 2004 then no.
    Mavericks System requirements.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5842
Note I would recommend a minimum of 4GB RAM.
You need to check all you software and hardware including any peripherlas you use, printers etc that they are compatible with Mavericks.
Any software that is PPC and uses Rossetta will not work with any OS X verson later than 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
If you decide to upgrade have a tested backup of your current system in case of problems and you could return the computer to its previous configuration.

  • When I sync my iPod to my MacBook through iTunes new events do not show up and old events are not deleted. I am using Snow Leopard  and not iSync.

I am using Snow Leopard on a MacBook. I have an iPod touch 3G. I do not use iSync it Mobile Me. When I sync my iPod through iTunes new events on my iPod do not show up on my Mac and old events do not delete. I have read help instructions that include deleting the data on the iPod. The iPod has the correct data and the Mac does not so I have not followed those instructions. I need help as the only reason I bought the Mac was to be able to sync, back up, view and print my calendar. Currently it is useless. If only Apple could have learned from the elegance of the Palm software.

  • We are having old home movies put on DVD's. How do we import them to MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard and iMovie 8.0.6.  Can watch the video, but can't get it to import.

We are having old home movies put on DVD's. How do we import them to MacBook pro using Snow Leopard and iMovie 8.0.6?  Can watch the movies on the laptop, but they will not import.

We took 3 video cassette 8mm that were recorded in the early 90's to a place that burned the videos onto 3 DVDs.  When inserted to our Mac, the DVD player comes on to play the DVD. Opened Quicktime, but can find no way to import. Went to File>Open File>Sony_DVD_Recorder_Volume. Clicked on Sony_DVD-Recorder_Volume and it shows a file named VIDEO_TS.  Clicked on that and 6 files showed VIDEO_TS.BUP,   VTS_01-0.BUP,   VTS_01_0.IFO,  VTS-01_1.VOB,   VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  Where is DVDxDV?

Mail application is still there. All of my emails and folders are gone since iCloud. How can I get them back using Snow Leopard? Or can I? Do I have to wait for Mountain Lion?

I need to check a few other things...
Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
    Click Preferences
    Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
    Incoming Mail Server?
    Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud?
