Can any one let me know if there is any way of displaying a radio button on the selection screen before the text.

Using radio buttons to populate a text field

Hi
This is my first time creating Adobe Forms and my first time using JavaScript as well. One of the questions on my form asks about Ethnicity and I have about 15 choices for which I created radio buttons. I want the user's choice to populate a textfield, but am not sure how to write the code that will do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you set the export value (aka Button Value, Radio Button Choice) of each radio button to the text you want to show up in the text box, the custom calculate script for the text box, which you should set to read-only, can be simply:

If none of the radio buttons is selected, the text field will be blank. Change "Ethnicity" above to the actial name of the radio button group.

Radio button to determine what text is put into the body of an email

No matter what I try, it always put all of the choices in the body of the email, not just the one I checked. any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks Erick

First off welcome to the group! Livecycle can be an interesting program.
For me I am not very technically proficient in coding so I tend to gravitate to, how you say, less than elegant solutions. What I do is create an Email Submit button for each Radio button. Then I create a dummy Email Submit button (this part will be key later). From the Object Library view on each Email Submit button I set the Email Address and Email Subject that I want. Then I hide all of the Email Submit buttons with the exception of the dummy Email Submit button. From the Action Builder I then create an action on the dummy Email Submit that when the button is clicked to open a dialog box to say "Please Select an Option". I then create an action within the Action Builder on each Radio button to show the corresponding Email Submit button that has the subject line I need while also making sure to hide the dummy Email Submit button (and any other buttons if the user clicks several radio buttons). That worked for me in the past. Then I added a DocuReady event on the dummy Email Submit button to make sure it was visible and the other buttons were hidden once the form was open. Sort of a reset if you will. The downside is if the user changes nothing they still get a prompt to save the changes. I am sure that some of our more advanced coders can offer a fix to your code lines, but that is sort of the non-coder way to go about this.
Edit: Oh I forgot to say that if you want the buttons to appear the same to the user, just overlay them together. To the user there is no change.

Why does disabling radio buttons change my formatted text size?

When I recycle through a multiple choice quiz i have created,
disabling the radio buttons also makes the label of the radio
button resort to a (circa) point 12 font. There doesn't seem to be
a way to get around this. Any advice?

I guess you, like me, are a poor typist. There is a bug, but it only really shows up when you use the mouse to repeatedly position the cursor, or move around with the arrow keys.
My "work around" is to press enter about three times as soon as I get into the typing space. Then if I accidentally go "past the end of the formating" it does not turn to rubbish. I did not realise I was doing the pressing of enter, as I wanted to get my signature out of my face while composing, but it appear to have had side benefits I just was not aware of.
The other formatting hell you can get into is with text pasted from Microsoft Office. Any office suite can make things unpleasant for a while, but but the Microsoft product just stands out with it's references to Microsoft specific data structures and it's magical ability to make the mail ring the anti virus bell..

I just statred Flash CC for the first time and it seems that the text within the pop-up window (dialog box) is mis-aligned and not allowing me access to the command buttons, nor all the text. (ie: the NEW Template Box, can't see but 2/3 of the content)

Using radio buttons to set the value of a text field

I have a set of three radio buttons on a form (a performance evaluation). If I select the "1" button, I want 1 to populate in the text field. The same goes for "2" and "3"
I have not been able to code the buttons correctly for this scenario, and can't figure out how to do it.
From a previous post, I was able to get check boxes to do what I want, but they won't really work because I can't set them so that only one back may be selected.
Can this be done?

The information for this specific case isn't anywhere. The best that you can do is understand what triggers each of the events, then ask yourself which of those triggers are pertinent to your current issue.

The above link contains a great deal of information regarding how to use scripts within Livecycle Designer. The section that you would be most interested in in order to learn about the available events can be found under "Events >> List of Events".
You needed to use the initialize event so that the text field would be updated when the document was opened. This ensure that the text field has the value of the default radio button when it is opened for the first time.
You needed to use the change event so that, when the use selects a different radio button, the text field is updated with the new value.
That's about it. That PDF file that I link to above is a bit long, but it's a great place to get a good grasp of the basics of scripts.

Setting a buttons .value property(the text displayed on the button)

I need a button's display to change based on a condition. I have this javascript code in my page html header:

Why doesn't this work in APEX? It works just fine when I opened notepad and created a quick html page.
Since my button(named CREATE) is a region button(and tied to auto dml process item) does it not have an object id like the ones you can create in the items section? IE: If I create a button called P1_MYBUTTON then the javascript works since P1_MYBUTTON is the id. I thought since the region button is called CREATE that it was some anomoly on the part of oracle design of apex not to have it's name be P1_CREATE.
Are we not allowed to access buttons that are region buttons?

Why not autoskip for radio buttons? and the update_allowed FALSE issue

I would so dearly love there to be autoskip for radio buttons. (forms 11.1.1.4 jre 6...24) There is no autoskip property for the radio group nor for the individual buttons.
I don't find an easy way to emulate it either. Or am I missing something?
Anyone else solve this problem already? When the user selects a radio choice I want the focus to move
to the next enabled item on the form. You can do this with text items but not with radio groups. (In some cases the radio group has a when-radio-changed trigger
that enables/disables following items). This would all be a lot easier if radio groups just had autoskip. I wonder why they don't?
BTW the following has cost me a huge amount of time. In 6i it was the case in my experience that if you
disabled an item like this:

Well right now 11.1.1.4 for autoskip for radio buttons this seems to be working ok. Crossing my fingers!
a block level when-radio-changed trigger with after scope (where item level when-radio-changed triggers
have before scope) with a simple next_item in there.
Where I was having problems before was next_item-ing onto disabled items. There was some kind of issue
with lov's. I'm having less trouble raising the lov programmatically. but also I had the problem that
items were getting set non-update_allowed without my realization.

How to add image as radio button label instead of text

In a pure AS3 project, is there a way to add use an image placed in the library/ Flex/AIR SDK compiler path instead of text as a radio button label?
I've tried substituting character may unicode like:
rb1.label = String.fromCharCode("0x2592");
But how this displays is dependent on the device, font character availability. Displays unpredictably.
Would prefer anyway to use an image that I can create in AI.
Any help appreciated.

(Hopefully, the image will display in the same location, next to the radio button, on different devices.)

How do I make each Radio button appear in the tab order?

When users tab through the form, the tab only highlights the first radio button of a group before moving to the next field or group of fields.
Example: the user is asked for the following information: LastName, Gender (M/F radio buttons), and BirthDate.
When tabbing through the form, users are taken from from the LastName field to the Male radio button, to the Birthdate Field. Never does the tab allow them to select Female unless they click it with the mouse.
It seems like this should be a simple fix, but I can't find it anywhere!

That's the way they work. Think of a radio button group as a dropdown or list box. When any of these types of fields receives the focus, you can use the arrow keys to move through the options and the tab key moves to the next field.
If you set up the group using check boxes instead, giving each in the group the same name but different export value, they will behave as you want. A group of checkboxes will behave a bit different than a group of radio buttons, but it's close.

Radio button column in the tabular report
