Raise the price!

Most people who use Lightroom are professional photographers or serious hobbyists that spend thousands of dollars on photography related hardware and software every year. And for most of these folks, Lightroom is the center-piece for most of their post-processing. I think what they really want, certainly what I really want, is better software, not cheaper software. I suggest $500 to get in, and $150 for upgrades. It is my belief that very few customers will be lost due to a couple hundred dollars - provided the extra money is being used by Adobe to fix bugs and hone performance pronto, and hire a few more people to work on (remaining quality issues and) the new features people want. Maybe, instead of (or along with) Lightroom & Lightroom-Lite, we could have Lightroom & Lightroom-Hevy - so people don't feel too burned by the price increase.
Rob

By the same token, most photographers (professional or otherwise) live in houses that cost multi thousands of dollars. Should we raise the price of refrigerators too?
There is a limit to what the market will bear for any software and I believe Lightroom is at that limit. Raising the price may not cause a loss of existing customers but it would no doubt have an impact on new customers. In addition, I believe it would encourage software piracy.
The cost of a piece of software should not dictate how well it works. Lightroom is a fantastic tool for Photographers but clearly not everyone is happy with it. Raising the price will do nothing to improve that, even if all the bugs known were fixed tomorrow.
The features that make Lightroom so useful will quickly be assesed as unnecessary by anyone considering a $500 purchase. Uploading to the web is very easy through Lightroom but not that difficult without it. The Slideshows are basic at best. The Printing it amazing interms of flexibility and speed but once one has a system in place, the print module becomes a luxury. The develop module we all know is Camera Raw, and that will always exist with Photoshop (which a large majority of Photographers have) so no loss there. Even without Photoshop to give us Camera Raw, we can always find other Raw processors for much less.
As for the asset management of the Library. I'll give you $100 for it, and still want improvements.
Really, Photographers spend thousands of dollars on photography related hardware and software every year because that is what they can afford. Ask any of them if they would buy the top of the line camera if they could afford it and I'll bet the answer is yes. If you price Lightroom out of reach, they will find an alternative.

  • Why did Steve decide to eliminate superior products like MobileMe and iWeb and not just raise the price?

I've been looking into moving 3 web sites that I easily created using iWeb and Mobile me and it is unbarably difficult to use what non Apple users have to put up with.   I was so happy that I could throw a site together for someone and it would just work.   Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality.    Why didn't Apple just raise the price if it was unprofitable?     MobileMe and iWeb are a GREAT service to Apple customers.    I feel this discontinuation is very unfortunate for many.

Actually, the discontinuation of MobileMe is an opportunity to move on to more professional website hosting and management.  MMe is just too social networking oriented and lacking in serious webstite hosting capability.
Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality
You've got to be kidding!  Web hosting that has more hosting features that MMe had is readily available for as little as $3.95/mo. That's only $48/year - aboiut 1/2 of what MMe costs.  Included are a domain name, unlimited storage and transfer, subdomains, multiple email addresses, advanced security features and, something MobileMe never had, 24/7 actual ear-to-ear customer support! What a novel idea.  Actually quickly contacting and talking to a real person to get help on a problem.
I moved about 30 websites from MMe to my new host in about an hour once the new server was setup. This describes how I did it: iW13 - Easily Transfer Website Folders From MobileMe to a 3rd Party Server.
This tutorial explains how I host multiple sites with just one domain name: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb. The same can be done with subdomains but the folder method I used was easer in my opinion.
Depending on your website's design and intented use iWeb an still be a viable web builder.  However, for more complex websites and connecting with mobile users one will have to begin using other applications.  Read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
You can move you 3 websites to a new host in no time and save money doing it.

  • Why did Apple raise its prices overnight by $200 on the iMac, including refurbished models.

Other than greed and trying to narrow the spread between the price of the old iMacs and the just-announced new iMac, why did Apple raise its prices overnight by $200 on the iMac, including refurbished models? Their existing product component costs didn't increase overnight.

  • Enter the price for the service item

    Dear Experts,
We are implementing SRM 7.0 and we have upgraded our system with Service pack 7.Created a limit SC and approved at all levels. After approving SC system created PO in SRM but did not replicate to backend ECC system. When I looked PO in edit PO mode and system throws an error message "Enter the price for the service item".
Have any body faced this issue? If yes please guide me how to fix this issue or Suggest me any useful link or OSS messages.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    Umakanth

    Hello,
I assume you are using a Product category configured for Extended Classic scenario.
In this case a limit item in SC creates limit item in PO(in SRM). But when this PO is replicated to R/3, it always creates item with type 'D' for limit item in PO.
Now with respect to error message you get, can you check if you have specified all LImits (Overall value, Expected value etc)?
You can also try creating a PO directly in SRM with limit item (use same Product category as above) and see if it replicates.
If you get the same error, please raise a OSS message for SAP.
    Thanks,
    Sushil

  • How can I delete a condition type or the price in the debit memo

    Hi Friends,
    please help me
I have a query regarding raising a debit memo in SAP 4.7 (transaction VA01)
I have to charge a company Euro 2112.70 and I don't want to add any VAT on it. The customer is a one-off third party customer code and the material is Sundry Sales. After I enter the price condition ZP00 for Euro 2112.70 the system adds 17.5% VAT on top of this. How could I delete the VAT element or change it to zero?
    Raj

So you need to charge a customer without VAT tax.
As there are many ways to do that, including the so no recommended procedure of deleting the tax condition, you firsy have to analyse why the company want to do that.
If its specifically to that customer, you can manage that via TAX determination for that customer. (From customer master).
As I'm not good at TAX conditions, I recomend you to check that on SAP help.
One I was required to do something like that. In last instance you can add in your pricing procedure one new condition in a sequence "bellow" of your MWST condition.
I hope i could help you...
    Best regards,
    demas

  • How to change the price of a material in PO

    Hi,
Please tell me how to change the price of a material while raising a  PO,for example  i am raising a PO and in conditions  the price is 100 and i wanna update it to 110.Please help me

    HI,
If you are using condion record, you can change the value for the required condition type so that it will flow to PO. IF you are not using that, you can change the price at the line item level in PO itself.

  • How to configure for the price master of the configurable item

in my client we have the configurable items like car doors with different colour as per the color
    the price is changing
so how to configure this masterdata for pricing for all the material

    Hi
This kindly of process is done at Variant configuration. so the pricing will define in condition type VA00. and the variant process as follows:
Eg: Ford car.If a sale order is raised for fiesta lxi model the system should choose red colour & for vxi blue colour respectively.
ie you need to define the characteristic and assign the values .
This characteristic need to assigned to class.
class need to be assigned to material master
    1. T.code : CT04(characteristic) FORD_MODEL, Choose single value & entry required tab & give the input as 01 - fiesta_lxi & 02 - fiesta_vxi.( characteristic values)
    2.Tcode: CT04, FORD_BODY( another characteristic)
Choose single value , don't click entry required.
    01 - Red( characteristic values)
    02- Blue
    3. Create class T.code : CL02
    fiesta_class
    type : 300
    4. OBJECT DEPENDENCY:
    T.CODE : CT04
    FORD_MODEL
    CLICK VALUES TAB,
IN FIESTA_LXI CLICK THE 'O' meant for Obj dependency, action & extra.
    Edit the dependecy,
    010 $Self.ford_body = '01'. & save
Repeat the same for FIEST_VXI & instead of '01' give '02' for blue colour.
, then create a ROH as ford_body. & a KMAT material for the car. .
Then create a Super BOM with usage 3 & give component as ford_body
Then use T.code cu41 (Create config profile)
    enter a profile name & class 300 & choose class assignment, choose fiest_class ,
Use T.code cu50 to check the values.
    Then create a sale order.

  • Updating the Price for a PO Line ... What's Wrong?

Both MsgBoxes return the correct values.  So, the B1 Purchase Order object appears to be functioning correctly.  However, the POR1 table is not updated in the database.  What am I doing wrong?
    Dim oPO As SAPbobsCOM.Documents
    Dim oPO_Lines As SAPbobsCOM.Document_Lines
    oPO = oCompany.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oPurchaseOrders)
    oPO.GetByKey(lBaseRef)
    oPO_Lines = oPO.Lines
    oPO_Lines.SetCurrentLine(lBaseLine)
    MsgBox("Before Update: Price = " & oPO_Lines.Price)
    oPO_Lines.Price = dPrice
    MsgBox("After Update: Price = " & oPO_Lines.Price)
    oPO.Update()
    oPO.Close()
lBaseRef and lBaseLine were assigned from a Purchase Invoice before this code was executed.

Ah!  I figured this out.  The Purchase Order is Closed (and unedittable at the database level) once the Purchase Invoice is created for these items.  Therefore, the assignement of dPrice to the Price column is "NOT" updated in the POR1 table.
Too bad that exceptions are not raised for such errors.  Also, it is confusing that the 2nd MsgBox() shows a misleading "updated" value.  Apparently, data validation is being handled at two layers in the application.  Why?  I would assume SAP would implement the validation at the business logic layer, especially given the recommendations to develop all customizations through the SDK.
I can perform the update using a recordset query; but, this direct editting of the table would require modifying several lines in both the POR1 and OPOR tables.  Thus, this solution (my only solution for this project) would be extraordinarily difficult to maintain.  Therefore, I am going to recommend dropping this implementation requirement.

  • Requisitioners do not know the price of the items - Work Around Required

    Hi,
The users who raise the Requisions at my company, they do not know the price of the items to be procured at that time. To get the prices you need to go through RFQ and quotation cycle which comes after raising the Requisition
So the requests are raised to the Procurement department via emails and consequently the RFQ and Quotation flows are handled manually outside the system. Once the prices are finalized they are placed on the Requisition and the PO Autocreated.
We would like to go through the whole flow in PO Module. Can you one suggest a work around or solution to the problem
    Thanks

at one of my clients, implementation was going on
and they had the same issue
the workaround sandeep gave is practicable but if you see the standard way, a requisition is made first followed by an RFQ, quote and finally a PO
But some ppl dont want to go into RFQ to quote cycle
so what we did at that company was that the users raising requisitions unaware of the price entered a zero amount, and some used the list price that defaults from item master.
The buyer who is actually aware of the market enters the price there for that item ..If he is not sure about the price due to any reason, suppose due to unstable market or high fluctuations in price than he negotiated price on phone with thier routine suppliers for years and got the best price.
if purchasing history is seen, it is based on PO
If item price history or average trend is seen, its based on PO
all of the baove is justa work around since you asked for one
well there are other workarounds too
    hope this helps youu

  • What is the price model?

I am very hesitant to spend time learning a new software
    without knowing the price model.
I checked the FAQ and it basically says FREE for now...
    Any ideas?

    Corey,
I'm a little late finding this forum.
    1. Adobe have sold this CS4 on the back of a helpful
webmaster benefit (ICE), but have failed to communicate in their
literature that the service is provided at an additional cost, or
publishing the pricing up front so prospective CS4 buyers can make
a decision on the value of buying the product. They are laying
themselves open to some mis-selling accusations and can expect
demands for refunds by recent buyers.
    2. When asked, they have failed to elaborate on the pricing
policy or detail or timing of its implementation
    3. The range of pricing being planned as appropriate is said
to be between $120 and $240 for up to 5 domains. This translates to
a revenue to Adobe of at least $120 and up to $240 with additonal
revenue for extra domains. Nice earner if you can get it and
potentially more than the total charged for buying the CS4 upgrade
    software.
    4. However when viewed by a one-man webmaster with a
portfolio of 20 clients of which 3 might be willing to pay for ICE,
    the economics look like:
1 Domain costs Min $120 Max $ 240 per annum
    2 Domains cost Min $ 60 Max $ 120
    3 Domains cost Min $ 40 Max $ 80
    4 Domains cost Min $ 30 Max $ 60
    5 Domains cost Min $ 24 Max $ 48
    (a) He has no idea what to charge as he doesn't know how many
of his clients will (a) want it (b) pay for it (c) pay the
appropriate amount (d) how long it will take to bring them on
    stream.
    (b) He bears the burden of risk that he might end up paying
the full subscription but not get the clients to pay
    (c) He may have a time lag in bringing on 5 clients to
maximise the value of his subscription.
    6. Wouldn't it be nice if Adobe would share the risk, the
stress and the rewards with its client webmasters by having exactly
the same interests as them, and address many of the concerns raised
in recent days on this forum by setting A SINGLE PRICE PER DOMAIN
ADDED - say $30 per domain per annum
    (a) The webmaster will add the service as and when he needs
    it.
    (b) The revenue to Adobe and cost to the webmaster is the
same. This ensures transparency and consistency across all clients.
(Transparency seems to be sorely lacking from this product/service
    so far)
    (c) the marginal cost and marginal revenue are the same for
all clients of Adobe and for clients of the webmasters. Those
clients will get a fair deal, rather than the early ones being
stung and the later ones getting a cheaper service.
    (d) In the end the final client (the webmaster's client) will
determine the success of this product. If they like it they'll ask
their webmasters for it and recommend it to others. If they
discover they're all getting differing prices for the same service
they will not be endorsing it. Let's look after the end customer
here which will be good for Adobe and the webmasters too. Good,
simple, fair services will result in maket share, not the
ill-conceived and complex pricing model proposed in your message.
In summary folks, isn't a "Pay-as-You-Go" service fairer and
    more transparent all round?
The CS4 buyers and webmaster users in this and other forums
will ultimately determine whether you make the right decision, or
whether the many alternative offerings mentioned in this form are
    the most sensible option.

What Neetu suggests is great.  However, you will run into problems if your users have deleted a price list.  Perform the following query as suggested:
    SELECT T0.[ListNum], T0.[ListName] FROM OPLN T0
Copy this to excel and create a further column called 'RealNumber' or something
Start numbering cells in this new column from 0 to whatever you need to cover all the lists from the database.
The number in the 'Real Number' column is the one you should insert into the LineNum field in the prices spreadsheet.
Hope this helps.  Reply if you need more guidance.

  • PLEASE help me squeeze the price of this build!!

    Hi everyone-
I have been working on a new computer build with heavy CS5 usage in mind, particularly After Effects and Premiere.  I have regular access to free cameras and gear, and I need an editing machine to facilitate a few personal projects  This machine will be the kernel of a home studio, but will also be used for more ordinary internet / bill-paying types of work as well.
The help I need from you:
The price on my build right now is $3,956.00.    Yikes!!  I need help squeezing the total pricetag of this rig to a more manageable number, hopefully under $3,000.  However, I know that I am purchasing literally everything in the system brand new, including things like monitors, speakers, the keyboard, etc, so my pricetag will be a bit higher than most builders in this forum.
As you'll see, I just mostly went on Newegg and selected the highest-rated component that was in a comfortable price range for me.  I'm pretty sure that everything in my list will be able to play together nicely, but if there are ways that I can take steps down in price without affecting the quality of the system too drastically, those are the changes I want to know about.
TO SUM UP:  After reading this forum for awhile, I've put together the computer I think I WANT.  But I barely know what I'm doing with this stuff!  Can you help me build the computer I NEED?

A little about me /my needs and usage:
I went to film school.  I'm not an editor per se, but I did a number of experimental compositing and animation projects, things that I'd like to resurrect, polish up, and put in my reel.  I also plan to use this machine to digest projects that are not yet shot.  With this machine, I'll be making the switch from Apple systems to PC.
Formats I'd like to be working with in the future:
    -Sony SxS cards (XDCAM EX)
-Many flavors of DV video (DVCPROHD, DV, AVCHD, HDV)
    -HDSLR footage (native H.264-based streams)
    -Maybe RED footage?
I've never built a computer by myself before, but I have friends that have, who can help me.  The components I've selected for this build were based mostly on advice I'd read in this forum, particularly Haarm's many guides for newbies like me
I do NOT need to be the fastest kid on the block, but I do want to build a reliable system the RIGHT WAY.  I don't want to be cheap about cooling.  For the HDD system, I want optimized data throughput that is structured in a sensible way.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who bothers to read even 1/2 of all that stuff, let alone anyone who makes helpful suggestions on how I can bring down the price of this system.
    Talk soon!!
    -Leo K

Thanks to everyone for their helpful advice.  I've taken all of it into account, and I was able to shave almost $700 off of the price of my build!
This is the result of my first major revision to my list.  Does anyone see major conflicts or poor decisions here?

  • How to block an order if the price is too low?

    Hello,
    My problem is :
How to block an order if the price is too low?
I created a new type of condition ZMIN and an access by material.
When the net price is below the minimum price the system must position the order on incomplete document for error of price.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
you can enter a lower limit in the condition record:
Lower limit of the condition rate/amount
Indicates whether, during document processing, the system checks if manual changes fall short of the lower limit allowed for the corresponding condition record.
    Use
When you maintain the scales in a condition record, the system checks whether the scale value falls below the lower limit.
Or you can use the flag 'conditon update'.
    Condition update
Controls whether limit values are relevant for pricing.
E.g.: you can make the use of a particular condition record in the document dependent on a specified total value.
This total value can be specified in the condition record.
I hope that the information are helpful.
    With best regards

  • Issue of: the price is diff in invoice than in PO after goods issue

    Dear All,
in my company there are some vendors sending the invoice after the goods reciept by one month or more, i know when i make MIRO the new price is update and post the diff into GL account but the problem here there are some materials has been issued to a production order with the old price (PO) and i cant reverse this materials , how can i update this materials with the new price ?

Correct me if i am wrong.....
    ur requirement is-
U recieve material lets say for RS: 100 INR
U did GR for the same price and ur material is also consumed against production order.
now u need to do the Invoice verification for the same GR for 110 INR or 90 INR is it ?
    Solution-
1)i Suggest u to do the IV for 100 INR first then.
2)then  do the price change in PO back dated.
3)Run transaction MRNB . and settele the difference of +-10 INR.
    regards,
    sujit borse
