RAM Alloation in Oracle Applications

Hi all,
We have a R12.1.3 instance with 11.2.0.1 database on Sun Sparc 64 servers. Its a 2 node setup with Applications and DB on separate nodes.
We need to make a perfect RAM allocation for increasing user load.
Application:
We were having 64 GB of RAM in our application server with 8 OACORE JVMs (each 1GB) and 3 forms JVMs with 256 MB each.
Now, HRMS module is going to GO live and thousands of users are going to start using the application. We have got 64GB additional memory added to the App server which makes it 128GB total.
Now, we want to make best and max use of this memory. How do you think we should distribute RAM.
how many OACORE JVMs we should have and how much RAM should we allocate to each JVM
how many FORMS JVMs we should have and how much RAM should we allocate to each JVM
Database:
Database is on another server and it has got 144GB of memory. Right now our SGA_TARGET is 14GB. What changes we should make to SGA_TARGET.
Please help me. Its urgent.
Regards,
Muneer.

• Oracle Application Server 10g on Oracle VirtualBox

Dear All,
I recently almost completed learning OAS 10g, I know 10g is now a past. but it needs to learn various basics of 10g. like Infra, Web, Applications server, database server etc. All this I have learned on single machine with Quad 2 Core+8GB RAM+320 Hdd and 2.4Mhz processor.
Now, I want to install all four products(above) sepretly on Oracle Virtual Box Virtual Machines(VM). Can any one have this experience and share with me step by step and what configuration (like RAM,space etc) is needed on one VMs for each product. Thanks.

Hi Experts,
I have a oracle application server 10.1.3 which is installed on a IBM blade server which has Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) as operating system.
The server has a RAM of 8GB and has 4 processors (Intel XEON 3.8 GHz).
I have deployed an application on this server, the application has been developed in Oracle ADF (ver 10g). The jdeveloper version used for development was 10.1.3.2.0
I want to ask how many concurrent user session this server can handle concurrently. And how can i perform a stree or load testing on this server.
Are there testing tools available for stress testing (pls provide any name).
Using this configuration can this server can it handle around 500 sessions of users.
Thanks in advance .

May be possible but it is probably not tested by Oracle nor is it supported as error correction support for OAS 10g has finished more than a year ago.
A good starting point is My Oracle Support Note [url https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=564174.1]564174.1, "Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) Installation Requirements for Linux OEL 5 and RHEL 5". • How to improve the performance of applications in Oracle Application Server 9i ?

I have my applications deployed to Oracle 8.1.7 database using OSE in Oracle Application Server 9i. My machine has 256 MB RAM. It has both Oracle Application Server and Oracle 8i database server installed on it. When I try running my applications I find they are very slow. Can I get some guidelines using which I can better the performance of my Application? It can be in the form of code, memory ,disk space etc.

The system configuration is more than enough to run java applications.
You are probalbly doing time-consuming operations in the event thread. Which blocks the event thread and the gui seems not to be responding. If you you have a very bad design.
Use a thread for time consuming operations.

• Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2) - Server 2003 64 bit

Hi there,
I want to install oracle application server Forms and Reports Services on 64 bit windows server 2003. I have checked the specification document and it appears to be supported I cannot find a 64 bit installation.
Is there a separate installation or do I install the 32 bit install on my 64 bit server?
Does anyone have any experience using a 64 bit server? Is there any difference in the application server setup?
Thanks,

Edit: I have found an Intel Itanium installation but I'm not installing it on an itanium machine.

We have a 32 bit installation but with only 4gb ram available to the OS we run into performance issues when we have 200+ users logged into the system. This is why we need to move our application server to a 64 bit windows server installation.
If I do install the 32 bit installation on my windows server 2003 64 bit machine is this configuration certified?
From my reading of the certification matrix I thought it was??

What if you stop the CM on both instances, can you access the R12 page then?
I believe 4 GB of RAM is insufficient to run both instances in addition to the OS, so review the following threads for some tips on how to tune your R12 instance (posted by Michael (mdtaylor)):

• Implementing oracle applications 11.5.8 trial version

Hi ALL
Pls, could someone help me. I am implementing the version 11.5.8 Trial version of Oracle applications and I am having problems. I 've a 140GB hard drive and 512 ram stand alone PC. The problems are:
1. I need to install the MKS software I cannot seem to get an evaluation version. The company wants me to pay £349 sterling which nearly $500 licensing fees.
2. The rapid install keeps asking me for a domain name. I have entered system32/drivers/etc/host and it still has not work.
Pls, any help regarding above queries will be deeply appreciated.
Pls, send replies to [email protected]
Many thx
Dorothy

Dorothy,
1. Earlier MKS Toolkit evaluation is available for 30 days. It looks like that they are no more giving the evaluation software. Recently i have visisted the MKS site, but end up getting no evaluation software from there. TRY out on Google, you may found somewhere. MKS is mandatory to install oracle apps on windows.
2. if you put an entry like in the host file as
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 dorothy.imafidon.com
when the rapid install asks for the domain name give the name as imafidon.com
Hope this would solve for you.
Thanks
Krishna

• Oracle Application Server On Linux Problem

Our client's application server has been live for 6 months now and currently there is an issue.
This server is a Dell 6850 running Red Hat Linux ES 3.4 (Taroon Update 5) and kernel 2.4.21-32 with 2 CPUs and 8Gb of ram. Our J2EE web application runs in Oracle Application Server and currently 5 OC4Js are up and running.
The issue we are facing is the server has frequently gone to a hang state. When this happened, we won't be able to telnet into the server but there are ping responses. So the only thing to do then would be to reboot the server.
Now I have setup nmon for linux to run 24 hours in the server taking snap shots of the server's performance every 10 minutes. From the nmon output, I could see free memory is always around 20Mb - 50 Mb and sometimes would shoot up to 1Gb and then in 3 hours back down to 20Mb - 50Mb. Is this a normal pattern for a linux server?
From the Oracle console under memory usage, I saw that around 1.5Gb is being used by the Application Server, 36Mb free and 6.5Gb used by other processes. Now, I am curious as what this other processes are and why are they using 6.5Gb.
I am not sure if this is caused by a faulty hardware, OS/kernel bug, or our web application.
What I have done:
i) monitor /var/log/messages but no suspicious error being logged not even before or during the server hang.
ii) monitor Oracle Application Sever log files but no suspicious errors logged.
iii) monitor nmon output daily
iv) searched for similar cases using Google and Oracle's Metalink but found nothing.
Thanks.

As a followup ---
We believe that we have found the culprit finally based on two lucky catches during lockups. Last seven days we have been testing various combinations of centennial agent and enterprise agent running and have successfully tracked issue down to these two products not wanting to run together.
We have 32 machines with centennial running and no emctl and there has been no issues for last 18 months. The machines we have had problem with are the ones that use enterprise agent also. We disabled centennial agent on 8 machines and left it running on 6 machines that had emctl agent. We were still experiencing failures on the 6 machines but no failures on 8 machines.
We turned off centennial software on the remaining 6 and have had no lockups since. Based on this we are concluding that "emctl agent" and "centennial agent" dont play well together and so plan to discontinue using both of these together on any machines.
Did not reseach exactly why these two were causing a system panic but since these are production and vital we will live with workaround.

• Deploying Web services written in C to Oracle Application Server

Hello,
Has anybody got information on deploying a web service written using C & gSoap into Oracle Application Server. I have a web service written in C using the example provided by gSoap and would like to deploy this on Oracle Application Server 10g, and am not sure on how to proceed further.
Regards,
Santhosh

Hi San :)
I think you need to use mod_soap module in Oracle HTTP server. or you can compile gSOAP web service as CGI-based or FastCGI application and copy the executable to cgi-bin directory in OHS.

• Minimum system requirements for installing Oracle Application Testing Suite

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what are the minimum system requirements for intalling Oracle Application Testing Suite?
Thanks in Advance

From the release notes (12.1.0.2).
System Requirements
Oracle Application Testing Suite has the following system requirements:
4
3.1 Oracle Functional Testing/OpenScript
Oracle Functional Testing’s OpenScript scripting platform has the following system
requirements:
■ Operating System (32-bit and 64-bit versions): Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 2003, Windows 7, Windows 2008
■ Memory: Minimum 1 GB
■ System: x86, 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 2.6 GHz or faster
■ Disk Space: 4 GB minimum
■ Browser: Internet Explorer 7.x, 8.x., 9.x and Firefox 3.5/3.6, 6.x
3.2 Oracle Load Testing
Oracle Load Testing has the following system requirements:
■ Operating System (32-bit and 64-bit versions): Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 2003, Windows 7, Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2. Oracle Enterprise
Linux 5.1, 5.2 64, 4u8.
■ Memory: Minimum 2 GB.
■ System: x86, 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 2.6 GHz or faster
■ Disk Space: 10 GB minimum free (at least 3 GB free on the system drive)
■ Browser: Internet Explorer 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, Firefox 3.5/3.6, 6.x
■ Database: Oracle EE 10g or 11g, XE 10g
■ Application Server: Oracle WebLogic 11g (10.3.5.0). Oracle Application Testing
Suite requires the standard WebLogic Server installation (which includes jrocket
jdk.). It does not support generic versions of WebLogic Server installation (such as
those that use wls1035_generic.jar).
■ Oracle Load Testing Agent also supported on Linux 32-bit & 64-bit, in addition to
Windows 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems listed above
Note: These are minimum requirements only and actual
requirements for the Oracle Load Testing Server will vary depending
on the size and configuration of your load test. If you are running
larger load tests, of greater than 1000 Virtual Users, you should
consider deploying Oracle Load Testing on a faster server class
machine with additional RAM recommended.
Note: Oracle recommends running the Oracle Load Testing Server
and Agents on separate systems for production load testing. The
amount of memory required on the Oracle Load Testing Agent
systems may increase based on the number of Virtual Users that will
be assigned to run on each Agent. For more information, visit the
QA/Testing Technology Center on Oracle Technology Network or
contact your Oracle representative.
5
3.3 Oracle Test Manager
Oracle Test Manager has the following system requirements:
■ Operating System (32-bit and 64-bit versions): Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 2003, Windows 7, Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2. Oracle Enterprise
Linux 5.1, 5.2, 4u8.
■ Memory: Minimum 2 GB.
■ System: x86, 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 2.6 GHz or faster
■ Disk Space: 10 GB minimum free (at least 3 GB free on the system drive)
■ Browser: Internet Explorer 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, Firefox 3.5/3.6, 6.x
■ Database: Oracle EE 10g or 11g, XE 10g
■ Application Server: Oracle WebLogic 11g (10.3.5.0). Oracle Application Testing
Suite requires the standard WebLogic Server installation (which includes jrocket
jdk.). It does not support generic versions of WebLogic Server installation (such as
those that use wls1035_generic.jar).
3.4 Additional Notes
The following are additional notes about system requirements:
■ The ATS installer can automatically install and configure an Oracle 10g Express
Edition (XE) database for use with Oracle Load Testing and Oracle Test Manager.
Although this is useful for demos, for production usage switching to Oracle's 11g
Enterprise Edition database is highly recommended. Oracle 11g Standard Edition
and Oracle 10g EE or SE are also supported.
■ System memory requirements do not take into account other processes that may
be running and using memory on your system, reducing free uncommitted
memory available.
■ When installed on the same machine, Oracle Load Testing and Oracle Test
Manager will run on the same server and use shared system resources. Oracle
Functional Test/OpenScript is a separate application that have its own memory
and CPU requirements.
■ The ATS products will run in 32-bit compatibility mode when installed on 64-bit
operating systems. It is possible for Oracle Application Testing Suite to be installed
on an existing WebLogic server. However, if the pre-installed WebLogic server is
JRockit plus WebLogic (64-bit) environment, some functions in Oracle Application
Testing Suite will not work properly. Oracle Application Testing Suite can be
installed on a 32-bit WebLogic, but not a 64-bit.
■ The legacy Oracle Functional Testing, VB-based scripting platform and associated
components (such as Job Scheduler) are no longer included with the ATS installer
Note: These are minimum requirements only and actual
requirements for Oracle Test Manager will vary depending on the
quantity of test assets stored and number of concurrent users
accessing the application. If you have a large quantity of test cases,
requirements or issues stored and/or are deploying Oracle Test
Manager for a team greater than 10 users, you should consider
deploying Oracle Test Manager on a faster server class machine with
additional RAM recommended.

• Report does not display data in Oracle Applications

I created a custom report and registered the same under Oracle Order Entry. The report uses 1 parameter and whereas everything is registered in Oracle apps. correctly, the report draws a blank upon completion. The only visible thing is the header part.
This report though works fine if run directly from Reports Designer.
Anybody know what specific setting (if required) needs to be made in Oracle Applications? Further in order that you can know the picture, whatever is enclosed in the Repeating Frame does not show up in App. but as pointed earlier works just fine from Reports Designer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using a browser (FireFox v2) based InfoView so I guess it is the DHTML viewer.
On the server it is java (Tomcat). The report uses a custom driver (crdb_ado).
Currently all the servers (RAS, page, cache etc) are running under LocalSystem account. I don't understand what a domain account is, is it administrator?
The interesting part is, I was able to upload and run 8 other reports before I experienced this problem. Have I hit some limit?
I appreciate your help. Please share any other ideas/insights on this issue.
Regards

• Emulating Oracle Applications Environment in BI Publisher Enterprise Server

Hi there,
I think I know what the answer is going to be to this post but for reasons outwith my control I'm trying to understand if there is a workaround to achieve the resultant report output I require.
Background
Oracle E-Business on Demand 11.5.10.2
Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.2
My client has Oracle E-Biz on Demand but rather than utilising the integrated XML Publisher engine they have gone down the path of installing BI Publisher Standalone Enterprise Server for their report generation.
Now this works to an extent but I am experiencing problems trying to emulate the setting of an Apps context when I run a report so that I can utilise the Apps security within the Stanalone Enterprise Server. Is this even possible?
Example, basing a data model on PO_VENDOR_SITES (multi-org view) returns 0 (zero) rows but basing it on PO_VENDOR_SITES_ALL returns all rows (for all Orgs).
I can hear you all now yelling, "Use the Oracle Applications XML Publisher" version but in this "On Demand" arena that practice hasn't been adopted so i am raising this post in the hope that someone may be able to suggest a workaround or solution.
Actually, no BI Publisher security model has been adopted and all users use the GUEST account to run reports.
All comments and suggestions are appreciated :-)
Kind Regards,
Gary.

Gary, create a data template and call your own db function to initialise these. The beforeReport trigger will fire and set the enviro prior to the query being executed (as in Reports) Something like this below:
<dataTemplate name="BasicQueryDT" description="Simple query data template" defaultPackage="xxbi_setenviro">
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="basicQuery">
<![CDATA[
select max(last_update_date) today from apps.pa_projects_v]]>
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataTrigger name="beforeReport" source="xxbi_setenviro.before_rep"/>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_Main" source="basicQuery">
<element name="TheDate" value="today"/>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
