Random Hex File Names Occurring...

Question

Heres the problem.
I use Lightroom for my pictures. I export albums of my pictures to a folder on a shared network drive so that I can point Apple TV to that folder to view my pics.
The shared drive has various shares on it for different media and all works as it should. Apart from the folder with the pictures for Apple TV to use.
Its has randomly changed all the file names to something that resembles a hexadecimal number.
For instance I have set a file to be named --2014/09 - Vacation-- pics and when I open the folder I see its now named 2LQXYL~0
If I log onto the drive from my laptop, also running Yosemite the folder appears with the correct name. So why is it getting changed on my desktop?
If any other user out there can shed some light on this I would be very grateful.

You can use File.createTempFile() and
File.createTempDirectory(), which will create a unique file in the
system temporary file location. You can't use it to put a temp file
on the desktop, though (nor should you be, really.)
It sounds a bit like you need a unique name just to avoid
overwrites, something like if "MyFile.jpg" already exists,
automatically appends an incrementing number or the word "copy" or
something, right?
In that case I don't think there's any built in method, you
have to come up with your own logic and implement it. I started to
create a function to do this for my last project (ended up going a
different direction) and it seemed pretty straight forward: just
create a loop that keeps checking File.exists and break once you
end up with a File that doesn't exist already.
