Re. imovie 9.0.4 Viewing a timeline in event browser?
How can I pinpoint specific cues in my event? That is, my event browser contains a 2hr long movie from which I want to pull out excerpts. So for example, how can I find the scene that begins at precisely 24 minutes 18 seconds. I am able to see a timeline on the project side, but not on the event side.
OK, so you have a single clip that is two hours long with no date metadata. Here is what I would suggest.
1) Create a new folder within your iMovie Events folder. Give it a name and copy this clip into it.
2) Change the name of this clip. If you know that date and time this clip was shot, you can use that. If not, today's date will do. Change the name of the clip to clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where: ext is the current file extension
hh is hours in 24 hour time.
If you want to see the actual clock time, e.g. 3:34PM, then use the time it was shot. If you just want to see the time as an offset from zero, use clip-yyyy-mm-dd 00;00;00.ext
3) Restart iMovie and let it generate thumbnails for this new event.
4) Now you can skim and see the time after clicking VIEW/PLAYHEAD INFO.

List view is blank in event browser
I have noticed something strange in Final Cut ProX. If I select an event in the Event Browser while in Film Strip View I can see all of the files that are in that event. If I click on the icon to show clips in List View, none of my files can be seen in the Event Browser. If I then click back on the Film Stip View, the Event Browser stays blank. The only way to get it working again in Film Strip View is to close and re-open Final Cut ProX.
Am i doing something wrong or is there a problem with the program. I purchased the Ripple Training series and it seems that I should be able to just jump back and forth between the two views.
Thanks for the help.Due to the silence, I figured nobody else had this problem so I went ahead and called Apple for assitance. The issue turned out to some sort of corruption in my preferences. I was able to resolve the problem by trashing my preferences file.
In case some else has a similar strange issue, it is very easy to trash your preference file.
1) Close FinalCut Pro X
2) Open a finder window
3) Go to Library\Preferences
4) Find the file "com.apple.finalcut.plist"
5) Delete the file "com.apple.finalcut.plist"
6) Restart your computer
7) Open FinalCut Pro X and it should be like when you first started the program
This does not seem to impact any of your previously imported events or projects -- it just resets the program settings. -
Cant view videos in the event browser
Normally, when you import a videofile into FCPX, and it appears in the Event, you can move over the clip with the mouse and it shows you the clip.
without changing any preferences from one day to another its not possible to do it..when i move the mouse over the clip, nothing happens..
when i click on it and drag the part i want, it works..
if anyone had the same problem it would be nice to hear any soloutions..
sony13fxYou may have accidentally turned skimming off. The keyboard shortcut is just the letter "s", so it is quite easy to hit by accident if, for instance, you were expecting to type something but the text box did not have focus.

New iMovie - A few questions (fav/reject, timeline)
Have some questions on the new iMovie v 10:
1. Is the "new" clip wrapping "vertical" timeline view gone? I actually liked this as opposed the the traditional horizontal timeline. Now all I see is the traditional horizontal timeline.
2. The Favorite and Reject buttons appear to be gone. I have to right-click and then select "favorite" or "reject" . This has gone from one click to two...And I don't feel that I have gained this space in the UI. Can I get fav and reject buttons back?1- View>Wrapping Timeline
2- Fav/Reject specific buttons are gone but can be accessed with a control click. Which will also show you the Keyboard Shortcuts for those options. -
How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline? iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.
Try this:
Select a small portion of the clip in the event (Above the timeline)
Click and hold and drag that section into the timeline, it should snap into place but if you drag it above another clip, it will not replace it but will be placed on top and the sound from the other clip will still play. Also this will allow you to use Blue/Green screen modes as well as picture in picture.
The best way is to drag it to the far right -

If you still have your iMovie 6 project, you can import it using FILE/IMPORT/iMovieHD Project.
If all you have is the finished movie, you can FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.
If your movie is in DV Stream format, it is advisable to convert it to QuickTime MOV container containing DV codec. Otherwise, the import will be chronological by the date and time the clip was shot, rather than in edited order. -
I am facing a problem that
due to big footage I first extracted the seemingly fine clips in chunks in one timeline in various layers which is still enormous for my RAM
now I have to take out smaller and more appropriate bits from this timeline
I have opened another timeline where I just copy paste the best shots from my previous enormous timeline and this works fine due to less media for 6gb RAM mac pro
but it is really tedious to go back and forth to copy paste
it would be so wonderful if I could extract those bits from the clips just like we do with any other new footage from the browser window with all the clips visible
I think one way can be to export these compound clips seperately and import them as events into the browser but that would be a generation loss
is there any other way.....? to view these compound clips infront of my eyes all at once or keeping all that footage on the timeline besides the finalising layer is the only option...?
I am facing this rare problem because I'm editing a music video and no shot is more than 2 seconds and that too from several groups of footage that has to be mixed.....so all the data has to be visible to decide if a bit of guitar piece would look good here or drums or close up or long shot.....so everything has to be seen....can you suggest me a smarter workaround please ?Thank you.Ok say for e.g.
500 video files imported in fcpx
800 clips extracted from these obviously on the timeline and joined/compounded according to their content in say 15 layers according to 15 instruments used ,so now just to see the entire usable footage ....
now one 7 minute song sequence has to be made where bits would be simultaneously taken from these 15 layers as all instruments are playing simultaneously
these shots are not more than 2 secs each according to the beat........
when I try to work with these 15 layers as well as the Final primary layer that I'm making in the same timeline my fcpx becomes slow
but when I drag individual layer to individual timelines it is fine so that is the only option
but now for every 2 second bit I have to go back to the 15 layered timeline and find one single suitable shot
So I was wondering is there a way to be able to see these layers and clips on the timeline in the browser in a systematic fashion like the way we get with keywords ?
and keywords can only be used in the imported clips already in the browser ,and not after we drag it on the timeline.....
Till now I think exporting and importing back is the only option ...but is there another work around ? -
How to view iCal all day events in notifications tab?
First of all I really don't like the new iCal app in ios7 but for now I am dealing with it and am contemplating getting a new app to use for my calendar. However I am trying to make this one work first. One of the problems I have is if I have iCal events that are scheduled as "all day" events, and when I swipe down to view my notifications tab it says I have no events even when I have an event for that day. However it shows up if I have a time for that event, ex: 8:00 am to 10:00am.
Is this a bug or is there a way to get them to show up? I have everything turned on in settings for the notifications tab settings.
My other issue with iCal is I have two calendars (one for work and one for home) and when I view my month, I want to be able to see the color of the event i have planned on certain days, instead it just shows me a grey dot for the days i have something planned. My ipad with ios7 shows me the view I want my iphone doesn't, just grey dots. This forces me to actually click on the day and then try to scroll through the day timeline to find my event.....any help?Did you ever get an answer on this? I can see everything in the DAY view but need to see the all day events in the week view. I have events that start on say the 15th and run to the 21st. I've started putting the end date in the location field but it was so much nicer when the all day even portion expanded to allow you to see all of them without having to scroll. Having to use the DAY view makes it really hard to schedule. Any chance this will change in the new version?

Clip appearance not displaying in event browser in filmstrip view
Some of the clips in the event browser don't display a visual in the filmstrip view until I skim over it. Any clue?
Here is a solution to the problem:
In the Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder,
enter /Users/Your user name//Movies/iMovie Library.imovielibrary/Name of Event/
(Name of Event is exactly as it appears in the Event Browser)
Select Go
This takes you to the folder in iMovie Library for that event, and you will see the contents of that folder as several folders and perhaps a file. One of the folders is Original Media. Open that folder and you will see individual files of the individual clips contained in that Event. Delete the file of choice in the usual OS X way. iI will then appear in the Trash folder. Empty the trash and it is gone.

I would like to display a Thunderbird email folder as a timeline of events. How can i do this?
The view of a particular folder is controllable but I have not found the ability to display the emails as a timeline of events (sends/receives). I read that an extension exists but cannot find it. How do I do this?
Outlook has this ability.That looks similar to the display offered by the [http://threadvis.github.io/ ThreadVis] add-on mentioned above. For calendars, there is also [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/timeline/ Timeline].

List View in the event browser stopped working.
Recently I was using Final Cut pro X when it crashed, when I re-opened the application I found that List View in my event browser no longer displayed any content, filmstrip view appears to work but I had gotten quite fond of list view.
Is there a way to get it running again? I've already tried Restarting, shutting down and booting up again, taking out my external hard disk before opening FCPX then putting it back in again..We have the same FCP X issue. Filmstrip view works, switch to List view and it shows nothing. We even tried closing in List view, then reopening, it reopens in Filmstrip. We have rebooted as well, with no effect. Anyone find a work around?

I just got Windows 7 and have been having problems since loading it. Most of my drivers only go to Vista and don't recognize 7.
I have trying to download some manuals from their website
and keep getting this message; Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in Web Browser.Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
In your Adobe application(s), go to:
Edit > Preferences > Internet
Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
(There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.) -

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images. In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides. How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto? Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
Thanks!I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) . I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha! I should have paid attention and read between the lines! My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do! I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy. I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events) ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update! -
How do I expand the view of all day events in iCal?
