Re-installing only OS X

Hi,
I run the latest OS on my MacMini Intel machine. My installversion on disc that I got with it is 10.4.5.
The OS and programs were already installed when I got the Mac, but since there are some problems with booting up and also with Spotlight, etc. I would like to re-install ONLY the OS (not the programs).
Is it possible to install only the Operating System WITHOUT formatting the HD or changing any of the preferencefiles, programfiles or my own files? If it is, how do I do that?

Re-installing OS X should always be used as a final/last resort.
What are your problems with booting and also with Spotlight and what troubleshooting steps have you already tried to resolve these problems?
You can re-install OS X with the install package that shipped with your Mini via an Archive & Install selecting preserve user and network settings. The OS is installed completely new (v10.4.5) and all user and network settings, user data and 3rd party applications are transferred to the new system. The old system is archived and saved as a Previous System Folder. You can't boot the computer from or use the archived Previous System Folder for any other purpose than to recover existing data or settings that were not successfully transferred to the new system. After confirming everything was successfully transferred to the new system, you can and should safely delete the archived Previous System Folder to free up hard drive space.
Afterwards, you will also need to run Software Update to install all available updates included with 10.4.8.
You should update your backup before re-installing.
Before re-installing, boot from the Tiger install disc that shipped with your Mac, select your language and at the Installer screen, navigate to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar. Select Macintosh HD in the list of drives and volumes and under the First Aid tab, select Repair Disk. If any problems are reported and successfully repaired, run repair again until no problems are reported.
Quit Disk Utility and the focus will return to the Installer.

Install iTunes.
Once install, hold SHIFT and launch iTunes.
When prompted, point iTunes to the correct location for the iTunesLibrary.itl file which should be in the iTunes folder under <user>/Music on the old drive.

Then open Application Support > Adobe folders
Trash AAMUpdater and OOBE folders.
Now click on finder and hold Command + Shift + G keys on your keypad.
This time type /Library and click on Go.
Make sure to remove ~ symbol.
Then open Application Support > Adobe folders.
Trash AAMUpdater, Adobe Application manager, OOBE folders.
Now Click on Finder and then hold Command + Shift + U keys on your keypad.
It will open utilities folder.

Is it possible to 'automatically' select /install only 4 components : Directory Server, Administration Server, Web Server and Access Manager?
Automatic configuration is very good.
Maybe instead of MAINJES=YES we can pass other options.
Or maybe it is possible to have a config file ...
What we try is to have a 'faster' installation and configuration of JES, with less clicks from the user.

You can automate your specific scenario using the 'silent install' mode

Basically you want to run the installer in a 'record' mode and select
the config options and products that you care about. In your case, you would choose, 'Custom -> Configure Automatically -> select the subset of products' you want. once you are done, the response file will be created which you can (edit if needed) use for subsequent installs

Is any way to install only Export utility without installing oracle

how in can install only Export utility in windows server or in windows xp
and if not is it possible to use Export utility in oracle 10g to export data from oracle 9i

The general rule of thumb is
1. To export data from upper version to lower version, you need to export/import using that lower versions of exp and imp utility.
2. To export data from lower version to upper version, you need to export/import using that upper versions of exp and imp utility.

Before you can move the scenario or object selected with Drag&Drop into the Collected Objects window, you can select the grouping function to determine which other Business Content objects need to be considered for the activation.
Groupings gather together all of the objects of a single area:
. Only Necessary Objects: Only those additional objects that are needed to activate the objects that you have selected are included (minimum selection)
. Data Flow Before: All the objects that pass data on to another object are collected
. Data Flow After: All those objects are collected that get data from one object
. Data Flow Before and Afterwards: All the objects that both deliver and receive data are collected
. Security for System Copy: With this setting you can collect only some of the objects for a transport request. This request can be added again after a
system copy has been made.
If the collection mode was selected to start the collection manually, the scenario or object can be selected first. With regard to this, the grouping procedure can be selected manually.

For several reasons I would like to install only the 32bit version of Flash Player AX for IE 8 and Windows 7 64bit.
It was possible to do it when the installers where separated but I see no information how to do that now.
It is very convenient for me to have my 64 bit IE 8 browser without Flash that I use to browse and not get annoyed by the flash on the web and use the 32bit IE 8 on youtube, vimeo, etc when flash is necessary.
I hope the option to choose which version to install will get back if it is not possible now.
Please let me know if such kind of request should be made somewhere else as new feature or whatever.

That was the first thing I tried. It either works on both or disables on both versions. Something is messed with the settings as well, or has been made that way on purpose. Also the next thing I tried was to uninstall only the part residing in System 32 (leaving the one in SysWOW64) but the result was both not working after the uninstall. It remained in Programs but wasn't working anymore in both versions of IE 8. So I just put back the latest 32bit version which is not security wise..

There is no disc of Mountain Lion, and if there were it would not contain drivers, those are on your original OSX disc (the one that came with the machine) or you can download them using Boot Camp Assistant.
You will need a 64 bit copy of Windows, OEM or retail.

Hi. I recently got a new Mac with OS 10.6.2. It came with the iLife Apps installed.For reasons I won't get into ......I had to try to install the older iMovie 08 (which I believe had some sound files connected to Garageband).After attempting that install.....I noticed that garageband had dissappeared.......the icon both in the dock and in applications had dissappeared.
So I believe I need to reinstall Garageband.........but not sure if its on install disc 1 or 2 and how I install only Garageband and not the other iApps? Thanks for any help.

i want a stable distro. but i also dont want leave arch and its aur. so i want to install only stable version for all packages. the version number can be know from http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ … CKAGES.TXT or http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpa … mat=txt.gz or own expieriance. so it would make my arch more stable.
right now i can think of one way to achive this, by create another repositery and disabling all others including core extra community etc.
so which one is more feasible different repositery or different, stable distro (may be slack).

How do you measure that stability?
in infinitely stable system, binary will only do what they are supposed to do. thats what is desirable. one way to find out the stability is testing for a period of time. and i heard slackware and debian stable are most tested distro so thats why i chose their packages.txt.
i am ignoring their interference with upstream packages and assuming it has zero effect on stability. however feel free to shatter my assumption.
Arch is a rolling release; it is predicated on moving with upstream.
it does not matter the only requirement is that the required version of the pacages should exist somewhere. with the proposed changes it would not be rolling anymore, at least apparantly.
Depends how much work you want to put into it. I expect that in turn depends on the issues you believe have been caused by arch's alleged lack of stability, and you haven't said anything about them.
Given your apparent determination to stay with Arch, it's odd that you included the option to change distro in your question, but it's the option I would recommend to you. If you decide to persist with Arch, here's a previous attempt to inspire you.
the point is i dont have to do much work. most of the work is testing, which is already done by big distros like slack, debian. i am just using their knowledge of most stable packages and applying that in arch. the only work i have to do is to automate the whole process of changing the database file.
yes i am facing issue with my current arch, xfce-panel is crashing. there is fixed bitmap in my top left corner etc. but i dont want to spend my time debugging these problems. but i do want them dissappeared, hopefully the proposed change would do that.
i think i am moving to slackware but without leaving arch. the only difference between them that matters is slackware is well tested distro and i think i am bringing that quality in my arch.
the difference between archserver and arch is archserver provides more stability but not more than slackware. so i think i am not intrested in archserver.

So i decided to modify the cd and made a FTP install only cd.
i dont know if someone did it before .. whatever
its nothing big just a really tiny modification in the installer.

How can I install only OS on SSD and have the HDD only for apps?

I am looking to buy an SSD and install it in my CD area of the macbook pro with an adapter. But I wanted to know if it's possible to instal only my OS on the SSD and have the HDD only for Apps/Software....Is this possible and if so how can I do this?

I suppose you could do this by just installing Mountain Lion onto your SSD, and then move your applications folder and documents to the HDD.
But I would be wary of doing this because:
It seems like it would defeat the purpose of having a SSD, that is to make your computer fast. The computer would have to switch back and forth between the SSD and the HDD. Sounds like that would unnecessarily complicate things.
I like to keep things simple. I think the software engineers at Apple know what they are doing and I just keep things installed simply and the way they intend them. Then they seem to work. I put a SSD in my laptop about a year ago and it works perfectly. I haven't had a problem with my computer in a very, very long time.
This doesn't mean that you can't have a lot of files stored on a secondary drive somewhere, whether it is on an internal or external drive. But I'd keep the system software and apps where they belong, on the drive where the installer puts them.
And this doesn't mean that you can't try your plan and see how it works.

And cloned only datadase from running ERP instance to another server keeping same directory structure and rman duplicate command. Now i would like install only application technology.Is it possible to install application technology and link it to this cloned database?

What does it mean? I mean, you when use "rapidwiz -techstack", it will install 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOME on the node where $RDBMS_ORACLE_HOME is installed and the database is already running. But, we still need to have $APPL_TOP and $COMMON_TOP on this machine, correct?
Why do not you simply clone the application tier?
I think, will go for this.I believe this is the best practice!
