I have seen above code in some programs. What is the meaning of the above statement. Where can we use the above statement. Can any body explain.

Have you checked the documentation for this statement. Take a look at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/22/0425ac488911d189490000e829fbbd/content.htm.
As it says: <b>Once the called function is completed, the next dialog step in the calling program (such as AT USER-COMMAND) guides the system into the FORM routine that checks for results. </b>
Perhaps some flow logic of your program will be help us to assist you in task at hand.

I actually dont think its Lion (sorry i put that as couldn't remember) as not on that computer at the moment, its at home, I am at work. I know CS2 is compatable with whatever OS I am using because I can using CS2 indesign etc and I was able to use CS2 photoshop until I updated the Camino browser (I believe this is when it stopped working). I have CS5 but it wont work at all on my Powerbook G4.
I can send a message later with the OS I am using and maybe you can suggest other help? They told me in the MAC shop to try and get the installation discs. They also said I would be able to get these via Apple's 'media replacement programme' which I cannot find anyway! To be honest, I am not even sure getting the install discs will work but I'll try whatever I need to try and get Photoshop working on it again!

How to call RFC with STARTING NEW TASK...performing my_form... in a class?

I created a test report for parallel processing and this works perfectly fine but when I try to build this into a class I somehow cannot create the receiving form inside the method of the class...

I tried to place the form before the endmethod but this doesn't work and afterwards is also not an option.
Is ABP OO not supporting parallel processing?

Starting new task task .. performing subroutine .... error

HI.
i used a Perform to call a Function module.
   Perform <form name which contains the Function module>.
I am calling the FM as -
Form
data: done type c value 'X',
          functioncall1(1).
   call function <FM name>
                  starting new task <Taskname>
                  destination in group default
                  performing <subroutine> on end of task
                    Exporting
wait until functioncall1 = done.
Endform
Later -
Form <subroutine> using taskname.
receive results from Function "FM name'
                                   importing
functioncall1 = done.
endform.
i do not get the importing data.. the passing Importing parameter are not recognized in the subroutine form..
can any one check and inform me the problem.

Windows 7 users in my domain are unable to configure or change backup settings. Users are able to open Control Panel > Backup and Restore, but when they click
Change settings, they receive the error: Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).
The same error is received when executing sdclt.exe /configure at the command prompt, regardless of whether the command prompt is launched using "run as administrator".
I've done significant testing, and have been able to determine that the local administrator account is able to configure backups before the computer is joined to the domain. Once the computer is joined to the domain, the local administrator account
and domain users who are in the local administrators group are no longer able to configure backup and restore. Domain administrators are able to configure backups.
This is a new issue, which began occuring sometime in the last 2 months. 3 months ago, users were able to configure backups without issue, and those computers with backups configured are still able to run their backups and do restores; however the
settings can no longer be changed.
Clearly something in the domain is doing this, but Group Policy has not been altered, and I can find no setting that would be doing this in any case. Any help is appreciated.

So you mean you have tried different accounts in the local Administrator group and all of them failed?
If so, please check what group the local Administrator group belongs to? Does it belong to a group with limited privileges, such as the Guests group?

In EP, under the inbox screen there's a 'Tasks' tab where we can create a new Task by clicking the 'Create Task' button.
My question is: Is there any FM or class/method that I can use to perform the same functionality to create that Task?. Thanks

Yes I agree with you. Payloads can vary in time and per task type. I configured flex fields in BPM Workspace -> Administration tab, then I mapped these flex fields in Human Tasks. When I create a custom view, It's only available to select the my custom payload field (flex field) when I select the Task type. In my case the payload field is an Person Id that is available since the start of first business activity til the end of the process. I think that if I really need to display this person id as a column, independent of task type, because this id I have all the time. I really need to build a custom worklist client as described in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/integration.1111/e10224/bp_worklistcust.htm#BABIHDEF . Maybe this worklist sample (HelpDesk UI Sample) can make my development time smaller compared with total time to develop an entire worklist from scratch.

i'm call a function module through
CALL FUNCTION 'Y_WIN' DESTINATION 'rfc_destination' then it's give right result but when i want to call with starting new task then

it does nt provide me any data. i have check in debugger call fm is wkging fine so pls clear me why i'm nt geeting result.

Use of CALL FUNCTION - STARTING NEW TASK parameter_list.

      WHERE strt_code EQ gt_street_district-strt_code.
To optimize the performance of teh above query I am planning to use call function CALL FUNCTION - STARTING NEW TASK .....
by spliting the above internal table gt_street_district into two internal tables and use the value of each internal table into two different queries and these queries will be put in call function - start new task ....so that these queries are run in different workprocess and thus improve the performance of the program.
Can you please let me know if this would be a good option and also how to implement the same.

nonsense! You should not try parallel processing for a non-optimized SELECT statement.
Better add the first key field of the WHERE condition as said above and check
+ whether the driver table is empfty
+ and whether there are duplicated entries
... And it is also a good idea to really use the SINGLE RECORD BUFFER, therefore you must write
field-symbol: <fs> type ...
LOOP AT gt_street_district ASSIGNING <fs>
   SELECT *

                WHERE counrty =

Calling function in NEW TASK

Hi,
I am creating a program which calls a function, becuse the function gets list of 2000 employess and run for long time over the amount of employees i wrote "call function zxxxxx starting new task p_task_number...."
My question is - how many tasks can i create ? can i run the function in 10 tasks (20 employees in each task)????

try CALL FUNCTION func STARTING NEW TASK task1 DESTINATION dest IN GROUP DEFAULT, this will enable to run FM in groups (parallel processing) and might help in performance as will itself take care of available Application server.
Not true, you can call an FM(which needs to be RFC of course) just like below, and you would still achieve parallel processing, read IN GROUP for more details on when and where to use it.

DO 5 TIMES.
l_task = sy-index.
CONDENSE l_task.
CONCATENATE 'TASK' l_task INTO l_task.

Call function starting new task:

I am trying to create a program in which few database update are mentioned.
after database updates , I am calling a function module using starting new task
in which I want to commit database updates inside in function module.
Problem is I want to commit only database updates if function module , not of main program. For that I tried using COMMIT WORK in function module and rollback statement after calling FM. But it is not working.COMMIT statement in FM also commiting database updates of main program also that is not required.
Can anybody help me in solving this problem.

I think this may be caused by an implicit database commit performed by the system at the moment of calling a fm with "starting new task".
Try the following test:
- Put "rollback work" statement inside your fm which you call "starting new task" (instead of "commit") and check if the updates performed by the code executed before the call to this fm are stored in db - inspite of the rollback. If they are (as I suppose) this means that the commit effect you observe is not due to the "commit work" statement executed inside your fm but due to an implicit commit issued automatically at the time of calling the fm. If this is the case the solution could be placing the code which you now execute before "call function...starting new task" into a seperate fm called "in update task" - then the final commit or rollback statement in your main program should have the expected effect.

ABAP Dump when calling Function Module Starting New Task

Hi all. I have a tricky situation now, I am doing a POC on parallel processing.
I am getting an ABAP dump on the following Call Function line which is in class lcl_steer_114numc (See below for full program):

    CALL FUNCTION 'Z_ZZCLS_STEER_114NUMC'
      STARTING NEW TASK me->id
      CALLING me->finish ON END OF TASK.
ENDMETHOD.                    "start
However I get the following ABAP dump:

The function module only contains a wait statement to simulate parallel processing. It is strange that it dumps here, because when I change the FM call to another call that has been triggered successfully from other classes, it still produces the same ABAP dump.
The background of the Proof Of Concept is to see if I can get an event to trigger the next process that depends on the outcome of the previous process. Parallel processes are run in the start methods by calling RFC.

Well, the thing is I did manage to run 3 other Function Modules asynchronously succeesfully prior to that function call, with the same exact function call syntax. Further more, I have tried editing it with your suggestion but I get the exact same dump.

What should be the approach to perform these tasks?

I am working on an AIR Desktop application (With Flex) which reads data from some XML Feeds, this data is feed for a Discussion Forum.
1. I need to store the records from XML Feed into local Database.
2. Need to check periodically (every 15 minutes) for updates in XML Feed.
3. Compare XML with Database, and:
     1. Add new forum Threads (Items) to database,
     2. Mark closed on the threads (Items) removed from XML.
     3. Update database if Threads has been updated/modified.
I hope my requirement is clear, now my question is: What should be the approch to perform these tasks?

Question on parallel processing using the STARTING NEW TASK keyword

I have the following code in a program on my development system:
call function 'FUNCTION_NAME'
    starting new task ld_taskname
    performing collect_output on end of task
      exporting
        pd_param1       = ld_param1
      tables
        pt_packet       = lt_packet.
You'll notice in the code above I left out the following part of the function call:
DESTINATION IN GROUP group
In my one-server development system the topmost code executes fine, but I'm getting a 'REMOTE FUNCTION CALL ERROR' when I execute this in a multi-server Q&A system.
My question: Is the missing 'DESTINATION' keyword required in order for this technique to work in a multi-server environment or is it optional keyword? I made the assumption that since it worked in my development environment that without the 'DESTINATION' addition the system simply used the current logged on system to start the new processes.
Any input appreciated.

CALL FUNCTION func STARTING NEW TASK task

This gives you very clear information about this Key word.
