RE: width of TreeCellRenderer

Hi All,
I've finally got a JTextPane to appear as nodes in my JTree by implementing a TreeCellRenderer. I add my text, set the styles and add them to the JTextPane which is then added to a JPanel which is returned by getTreeCellRendererComponent.
My JTree is inside a JScrollPane and the problem that I have now is that the text in the JTextPane completely ignores the size of my JScrollPane and the words no longer wrap.
How would do I set up my TreeCellRenderer so that it is aware of the width of the JScrollPane and when someone resizes the JScrollPane, all the text wraps appropriately ?
I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to Java so code postings and/or URLs help enormously !

I believe the problem is that the width of the JTree is calculated at a later point. When you create your JTextPane, the scroll pane knows nothing about the size of the JTree.
... but this is a hypothesis only. You should post some of your own code, so that we could peek into the specific details.

TreeCellRenderer width update

It seems to be a recurrent issues here according to the numerous thread I read. But I did not find any answer.
I have a JTree and a cell renderer extending the DefaultTreeCellRenderer. This custom renderer customizes some colors (background, text...) and sets the node font to bold when selected. As the label content is wider the node name ends with trailling dots ('...').
I know that I can solve the problem if I invoke model.nodeChanged(theSelectedNode) but my custom tree has to work fine with any TreeModel and not only DefaultTreeModel subclasses (well actually I would prefer). Moreover I know the node content didn't change therefore it's useless to reload it from the model.
I tried to compute the new label width (and set the preferred size) with a:
int width = SwingUtilities.computeStringWidth(getFontMetrics(getFont()), getText())
+ getIcon().getIconWidth()
+ getIconTextGap();The label is wider than previously but still to short. Does I do something wrong or miss something ?

JTree cell width

Hiya
I'm trying to make my jtree's cell width be equal to the width of the entire JTree it is in so that when selected, a highlight bar stretches across the entire jtree rather than just around the text of that node?
I've created a DefaultTreeCellRenderer and attached it to the jtree, and tried overriding the getWidth, getPreferredSize, getBounds, but I can't get it working.
How can I do this?

I've written a TreeCellRenderer called TreeCellSpanner for general JTree's based on the TreeList implementation that will span the tree cells to fill the width of the tree.
It is slightly different because I wanted it to work with any JTree, so I couldn't subclass JTree itself to take advantage of some of the hackish things I did with TreeList. So this version has to rely on a much worse hack, but it works for the general case and can be changed by subclassing and overriding the fireTreePathChanged(TreePath) method.

Caveat: it leaves the root node alone to avoid creating an infinite loop of updating. So all nodes, except for the root node will expand the width of the tree. If you need a root node and want it to expand the width of the tree, then create a dummy root node with the child as the real root node and set root node invisible on the tree.

Spry menu bar woes (add submenu levels and edit width)

So i need some spry menu bar help. Apparently as a graphic designer i'm also expected to webdesign, and while i can solve most problems with a good googling, i seem to be at my wit's end fo this one. So the site i'm doing has a header ith a horizontal spry pop-up menubar (in Dreamweaver CS4). But some problems arise: when i manually add another submenu level, they don't show up in chrome or FF, they do werk perfectly in IE6. I just add the following code to the codepage:

Field width in ALV report

Hi,
How to increase the field width of a field in ALV report.
I mean, in a ALV report, the field description of a field is not showing correctly. IF i try to extend the field width by the mouse/coursor, it displays the correct description.
IS there any way where for displaying the field description correctly?

Print the report on page has width larger than height and not landscape mode

Hi,
I'm trying to print report on page (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) which the width larger than the height.
The problem is windows keeps changing the page oreintation to landscape and when I change it back to portrait its changing the width to 13cm and height to 18cm.
I'm using dot matrix printer to print the report, if i put Landscape , printer is printing the text in horizontal.
Already i have tried to setup the custom for on printer, and used custom page size but it is changing to landscape.
I need to print the report with out preview, direct print top printer, NO PDF....

After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it. When I set (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) as the Report Page size, it would automatically convert Orientation from Portrait to Landscape. Because the Orientation displayed is dependent on the page
width and page height of the report.
But in my scenario, the Orientation option just change the Width and Height sizes, it couldn’t affect the text rotation. I guess this issue can be caused by the printer and printer driver, please try to update them. Reference:

Hi,
The column width of the Document will be defaulted to the same size at which the user has saved the last document.
So, if a user has saved the Sales Order with a big column width for the 'Item Description' then after saving and re-entering into the Sales Order, the user can see the same column width for all the Sales Order's.

You can't. Margins apply to the entire document.
What you can do is set the margins to their max width and then use left and right indents for the sections you want narrower.

If you're going for a 800px wide window browser, then it would need to be 760-780px wide, not 800px - need to take into account the scrollbar / chrome area of the browser :-)
If you are looking at a 1024px wide window, then 980px wide is recommended.
As to the original question - the link Kath provided is a good one.
What you need to consider is the demographics of your viewing/browsing audience. For example if the site is aimed at the more technically minded, then they are more likely to be using the latest computer equipment which means larger monitors, so your design can be created using a wider width.
If the client base is more mom and pop type customers - who may not update their computer hardware very often, then you may need to consider the narrower window size. If you are targetting people who are located in areas where the internet connection is slower, then that has to bve taken into consideration as well. Best place to check is your site statistics to access this type of data, which may help yo determine what may be the optimum size for your website.

How to make a JPanel containing buttons take up the width of the window?

I'm creating a GUI and I have a button group that I want to be the width of the window. I have another JPanel on the same window that doesn't have a button group in it and it takes up the width of the window. I don't think I'm doing anything differently creating the two, but I need consistency.
The best way I can explain this is with code, so I created an example of what I am doing here:

It can get confusing when using the BoxLayout. The box layout takes into consideration the X alignment of the components as well as the minimum and maximum lengths.
So I suggest you read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/box.html]How to Use Box Layout for examples and explanations on how these values are used in the layout process.
It may be easier to use a BorderLayout for the high level layout manger, since it will resize a components width when added to the NORTH, CENTER or SOUTH.

I cannot use the cloud as my data plan has a limited band width cap ( I live in rural Alberta , northern).My library may be on my tera drive, but then how do i delete this library once I transfer the files, that is if i am able to locate them ? this is a question for all itunes lovers, I love it when i know how to use it, so far not computer literate to loving it! thanks so very much for considering this problem.

Text wrap for a paragraph: How to define the width of a Text box / active text area? I simply need a longish text to wrap within the frame!

Hello, I've been searching for a good while in the forums now, but have found no solution or real mention of the problem – I hope some of you can help.
I want to very simply layout a text between scenes, a slightly longer text that wraps within the frame margins. Here's an example of how I want it to look:
Now, I couldn't for the life of me get the Custom Text to behave like that, as there are no parameters to set for the width of the text area. The Text Size, yes, along with the Tracking, Baseline and all that, but the width of the text box, no. The above was created by customizing one of the other Text Generator presets that happened to be left aligned.
However, this preset has a fade in/fade out transition, which I do not want. There's no way to remove this transition as it seems integrated into the Text Generator (meaning they are not really presets, but separate kinds of Text objects? Very silly.)
So I am asking you: Is there any way to get the Custom Text generator to behave like that? Just a text paragraph as above. Below you'll see all I can manage with the diffferent Custom Text parameters. Any kind of repositioning and resizing of the text just changes the position and size of the frame – but the actual text items are just cropped off where they extend out of that frame. Apparently the bounding box for the text is just some default length, and I can't find any way to adjust the width. See below my different attempts.
The same text pasted into a Custom Text generator clearly extends outside the frame:
Here Transform just moves – or resizes – the video frame that the Text Box exists inside:
The Crop gives similar results, and of course Distort doesn't get me closer to what I need, either. There should be simply a Text Box Width parameter to set somewhere, but if it exists they have hidden it very well. How do you do it?
Thanks for any help, this is a silly problem, but one of now many trivial problems that amount to me growing quite dissatisfied with FCPX. Hopefully I've just overlooked something.

Thomas...same kind of crap here.
I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
Set to 72 pt.
The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
Using Transform will not sort it!

Hi,
What ever text you are sending in the email, create a standard text for it using tcode SO10. In the program use the FM READ_TEXT to get the data into internal table which will be of length 132 char. If you want line widht of 255 chars convert using FM SX_TABLE_LINE_WIDTH_CHANGE as below,

How do I make an oam file to be 100% width in browser?

I animated the edge file so that it's responsive to the width of the browser. It works in Edge when I preview & published, but when I placed the oam file into Muse it doesn't have that ability.

Try to put your animations inside the new frame, and the frame to stretch the entire width of the template in Adobe Muse (until the red line). In addition, test page only in browsers, since I've noticed that myself Adobe Muse is not properly display such content. Unfortunately, I do not have an example of solutions to your problem, but maybe you'll find something interesting in the pages of adobe muse market! Thank you!
