Read Only Display Settings Help

Hello,
I am trying to control what some users can see in a page. Right now I have an item field (Roles) display as checkbox. Roles is a field in my table that I created with RolesA, RolesB, RolesC. Note: these are not htmldb roles.
In my Edit Page Item --> Read Only Display Settings --> Read Only Condition Type --> PL/SQL Function Body Returning a Boolean. Under Expression 1, I coded:
return not htmldb_util.current_user_in_group(p_group_name => 'APP Admin')
I want this item to read-only unless the user happens to be a member of group 'APP Admin'.
The expression is not working. It seems that no matter what user is logged in they can modify this item. Is there another way I can do this for controlling what my RolesA, RolesB, and RolesC can modify? BTW, this item is a checkbox.

That API seems to have a bug, it returns true/false/null, so you could use 'return not nvl(htmldb_util.current_user_in_group(p_group_name => 'APP Admin'),false)' to get a false value.
Unfortunately there's another problem: using the read-only attributes for checkbox or radiogroup item makes them hidden. My suggestion would be to create another item that has disabled="disabled" in the HTML Form Element attribute in the item definition and display that item or the non-disabled item alternately, using conditions based on the current_user_in_group logic.

Problem with Read Only Display settings

Hi Guys,
When you use the "Read only display setting" for a field (bgcolor="#FF0000") it actually makes the whole cell red. The cell is longer then the field. Is there a way to just adjust the color of the display-only field. Firefox displays the read-only fields with the grey background (good). IE displays them as a normal text field (stupid).

Sorry, found it. You set it in HTML Form Element Attributes.
Would it not be better to have an option in the "Read Only Display setting" to set the HTML Form element aswell or instead of the cell?

Hi.
Having various problems with a USB stick that is formatted in EX-FAT.
It was working fine for a long period.
Yesterday I lent it to a friend to put some things on it.
Now when I try and work on it, I get messages like this.
Mac OS X can’t repair the disk “Disk Name"
You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can’t save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can.
It will also randomly eject the drive.
I have tried to reformat it multiple times, in mac and windows.
[I have never used it in windows previous to this occasion of needing to reformat].
In windows, it crashes the disk when I attempt to format with disk manager [I attempted this due to advice in an internet article].
In Mac , I cannot even try to reformat it, because for some reason the permissions on the USB stick have been set to "read only" and I cannot find any way to change them to read-write, or full permissions, or whatever is appropriate.
I have tried "erase" disk in disk utility. I know how to do a full reformat, but it simply will not allow me to do so.
All the options are greyed out.
Does anybody have any information or links they can point me to?
I've been searching around.

Start over:
select the drive > select the Partition tab > select 1 Partition
select Option > select GUID Partition Table > select OK
name it > click the Apply button > then lastly click Partition

Read Only Display of Radio group and Text area with counter not working

Hello,
I am using Apex 3.2, with 10g for the database
I have this form, with fields that will set to read only when status = 'closed'
All of the fields display as read only except for 2. I cannot figure out why this is not working correctly.
1st field is Issues that is a text area with character counter, with a sql query behind it, that is set to null unless the query is pulling in the data.
2nd field is Status which is a radio group that will not display as read only when status = 'closed'
I have other fields on the form with the same format and they change to read only when the status = 'closed', I have even copied the pl/sql expression from one field to these fields and it still doesn't work correctly. I have also tried javascript for an on load event, which works, but once I click on the save button, it disables all of the page items, which works correctly, but I purposely forget to enter information, to make sure the validations are firing correctly, which it does, but the script disables everything, not allowing me to correct the errors. The javascript is firing on the on page load event.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Tried to backup iCal now it's a READ-ONLY calendar! Help!!!

I tried to backup my calendar before I attempt to install the Missing Sync to link my iCal to my Blackberry..I ended up getting a calendar with Most of my entries duplicated and now my calendar says its "read-only" so I can't modify it..I TOTALLY depend on my calendar for my livelihood and can't afford to lose my calendar data for the last 3 years....Can I undo what I've done?????? How did you backup your calendar, i.e. what do you have for an iCal backup.
How many calendars do you have?
Are any of them subscribed/birthdays?
iCal Help Topic "If you can't change an event or calendar" says:
If you can’t change an event or calendar, check the following:
If it’s a calendar to which you’ve subscribed, you can change the calendar name but you can’t change its events or to-do items.
If you were invited to an event, you can change only your status for the event, the calendar where the event appears, and the event alarm.
You can’t change or delete events on the Birthdays calendar. (To show the Birthdays calendar, select “Show Birthdays calendar” in iCal preferences.) To change the birthdays that appear, open Address Book (in your Applications folder) and make your changes there. For more information, in Address Book choose Help > Address Book Help.

Textarea formatting for read-only display

I currently have a textarea field that is on a data entry screen, which can be displayed as editable or read-only, based on certain criteria. I noticed that when text with line breaks is entered into the textarea, it keeps these line breaks as expected when viewing the record again in edit mode. However, when the record is read-only, and the textarea is showing as read-only text, the formatting has been an issue -- all of the text is run together as if it were one continuous line. In the Label area of properties for the textarea, I added in <PRE> in the Pre Element Text value, and </PRE> for the Post Element Text, to retain formatting of the text. The good news is that now the text formats properly in edit or read-only mode; however, if a long amount of text was entered before a line break, when viewing the textarea as read-only, the text goes on and on far past the right edge of the screen so a lot of scrolling must be done to read the text.
Is there some property or workaround I can use to restrict the width of the text showing when read-only, so the text will wrap but also maintain line breaks? I don't want to change any properties that will cause the edit view of of this textarea to function any differently. In a nutshell, I'd like to be able to have the text wrap, but still show the line breaks.

Yes, I had the same issue.
Read only with textarea .
It is not fixed in 3.0 version I don't know if it is in 3.0.1.
My workaround was to use javascript to change the property of the textarea to readonly on page load event upon certain condition, something like :
if ('&P8_EMP_TYPE.' != 'EMP' || '&P8_DATE.' != ''){
document.getElementById('P8_EMP_COMMENTS').readOnly = true}
You should be able to do something similar with most conditions, if you find a better workaround pls let me know.

Increasing Crashes "Read Only Memory Exception" HELP please!

Over the past month and a half I'm starting to get regular and increasing crashes, mostly in my Adobe CS3 programs with this error:
Read-only memory exception. A memory reference was made to an address that cannot be written to.

I am starting to get towards my wit's end and want to rule out hard drive or logic board problems. Today after I got this crash in Dreamweaver and Fireworks (for the first time in FW), all my programs stopped opening and responding. I am noticing in Activity monitor 2 continuous stalls:

I am having a very similar problem with Dreamweaver 8 running
on OS X10.4.11.
If I choose passive FTP, Dreamweaver appears to upload a
file, when in fact the error logs reports that the file could not
be upload because it was not found, or because of permission
problems.
If I do not upload with passive FTP , Dreamweaver 8 crashes
& Dreamweaver 8 loses the site's root folder, informing me that
it cannot be found and I must use the manage sites feature to
recreate the cache for the site that was there.
If I use FETCH, no problem... all files are uploaded
successfully.
I recently had a hard drive failure on my Mac, had a new HD
installed by the folks at the Genius Bar, and thought perhaps my
new HD was buggy... however, now it seems there must a a
permissions problem built into the Dreamweaver FTP protocols.
I have not seen a patch for this, although when I reinstalled
the software, I did download all updates.
I know my reply offers no solutions, but I do thank you for
your post.

Read only table, need help

I have an read only table with a check box(updatable) for each row which is the first column and it is part of the table field. The value for the
checkbox field is Y/N in the database. I replaced the first column with a Select Boolean Checkbox, I can able to see the unchecked check box for each
row in the browser. But, it doesn't allow me to check/uncheck. How do I make it work and how do I collect checked rows, so that I can update db. Thanks.

you need to use the converter for Y / N value
To make custom converter, implement javax.faces.Converter and implement following two methods

External Hard Drive Read Only. Please Help!

So I have looked for answers and I can't find one. I need help ASAP cause I have to edit pictures and I have no space.
Ive read that I have to format my ED but it was working just fine. I don't want to erase none of the backups in there. Theres about 900GB already used.

Looks like your HD is full. When something is full, the only way to make room is to delete stuff.
Formatting will wipe it clean by removing everything in it.
For alternatives, go into the HD and delete stuff selectively you no longer need to make room.
The only other option is to buy a new HD.
With that said, I see no indication the drive is failing. Only that it is full. Unless you know for a fact there should not be enough data in it to have only 88GB left. I don't see anything overtly wrong with it.

Kingston 1600 mhz Ram Reading only 1333 Mhz Help?

My system is a pavilion G6 with the A6 AmD Processor. HP says it can go to 8GB Ram to 1600 mhz. I tried everything and CPU-Z says only 667 x2. It should be 800x2 Any ideas. Reccomendations Thanks

F4 / Value Help on a Read-Only Field in a WD app

Hi friends,
I am struggling to put up a F4 help on an input field which has been set up as read-only. The idea is to have the field as read-only, and allow the user to select any value from the predefined values using F4/value help.
Now, I get the F4 help working if the field is NOT in a read only mode, However, the moment I set it to READ ONLY , the F4 help vanishes.
Is there a way to have the F4 help associated with the field even when the field is a read-only ?

Great Solution ! This works.
However, there is a small problem with the usage of browsers. If you use Mozilaa/ Chrome, then even the 1 px width of dummy field show up. However with IE the 1 px does now not show up, so the F4 help comes up right next to the original field. But that is not something significant !

Input Help for Read Only Inputfield

I have a requirement where an inputfield should be grayed-out so the user can't simply type whatever they want into the field. However, the user should still be able to change the value of the inputfield via the input help (F4). After searching around in the forums, I see that the only way to do this is to use a custom input help (as opposed to DDIC or OVS). I've done that, and it works fine when the inputfield is open. However, as soon as I set the inputfield to "Read Only", the input help button goes away.
How do I get the input help button to stay even though the field is set to "Read Only"?

I have a requirement where an inputfield should be grayed-out so the user can't simply type whatever they want into the field.
If the user shouldnot enter the data what ever he wants in input field ,you can use foreign key check ,
So that it throws an error message, when use enters the data other than the values in F4 help.
So with out making the field read only you can solve the problem.

External Hard Drive showing as Read Only

I have an external hard drive I've been using on Windows XP for the longest time. I never set any permission settings on it, and I even made it a freely shared network drive on XP. Any other Windows computer I plug the drive into, I can freely read and write. I can't write to it in Mac. I used to not even be able to view the drive at all under Tiger, but now in Leopard I can read but I can't write.
How can I change the permissions? If I try it through Windows XP there's nothing to change since there's no permission settings on it, it's freely readable and writable to all.

How can I change the permissions on a read only external HD

I have a WD external HD and I am transferring a file more than 4GB in size. The current partition scheme supported by Ma, being FAT 32, supports only up to 4GB in file transfer size. If I format the external HD on my PC in a NTFS file format it is supposed to handle file transfers bigger than 4GB. Which is true, but it only goes one way, so for example if I am transferring a file from PC to HD to Mac it works just fine, with a few minor hickups, but the other way it does not work at all. So if I want to add anything onto the external HD being hooked up to my Mac, and still being in NTFS format I get a message saying that I do not have sufficient privileges, and under drive info it says that it is read only. Any help on the topic, please.......All the best

Basically, this is not a privileges problem, it is a limitation of the formats. OS X can read NTFS, but not write it. See How to transfer data from a PC to a Macintosh:
Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 work with local NTFS-formatted volumes. The volume will be read-only.

Read only field in data manager

if we set a field permission as read only in console.
in data manager this field will be read only.
in import manager during process of import will this field be receiving value or it will be read only

I tested (MDM 5.5 sp6) and if you import data, and for a read-only fied mapped, data can be created and updated ( import done with same role/user than the one with read/only rules)
I haven't see this behaviour on documentation, but don't look as a trouble for me.
If this role/user try to update from the data manager, it is not possible to update a read-only fied
