Read/Parse file in PL/SQL

How can I read and parse the text file (fixed length, csv or comma-delimited) in a PL/SQL procedure:

  • How to read .mdmp files generated by sql server ?

    Hello Everyone!!
    As we all know that the SQL Server creates STACK DUMP (.mdmp) files on SQL Server crashes. In an attempt to postmortem the issue, how to open these .mdmp files. Tried to open with Notepad/wordpad, no luck. They are not supporting the formats.
    Do we have any Microsoft's or Microsoft recommended tools to debug this file for elevating the root problem.
    In my case, I got mini dump files which of size some 40 MB.
    Appreciate your help and time greatly on this! Thanks!!

    You need to install windows debugger tools inorder to analyze dump files. Its not an easy task and different types of dumps have different way of debugging.
    Depending on your interest and skill in dump analysis (with the help of public symbols), you might be able to get to some conclusions but for a wide variety of cases you might have to go to microsoft support for help.
    Check these links
    http://mssqlwiki.com/2012/10/16/sql-server-exception_access_violation-and-sql-server-assertion/
    http://troubleshootingsql.com/tag/stack-dump/
    http://curah.microsoft.com/74209/sql-server-dump-analysis
    If the dumps are frequent and causing issues I would recommend you to open a case with microsoft support.

  • XML Parsing error in PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I have some problem in parsing Mircrosoft OpenXML file using Oracle 10g Release2 XML Parser for PL/SQL.
    I use dbms_xmlparser, dbms_xmldom, dbms_xslprocessor packages
    OpenXML file use "w:" as namespace, so every element has prefix "w:" like
    <w:wordDocument ..>
    <w:body..>
    <w:p..>
    <w:r..>
    <w:t..>
    My job is to read OpenXML file inside PL/SQL code, parse it, and load it into the corresponding table.
    Here is my PL/SQL code.
    DECLARE
    doc dbms_xmldom.DOMDocument;
    node_list dbms_xmldom.DOMNodeList;
    l_node dbms_xmldom.DOMNode;
    one_element dbms_xmldom.DOMElement;
    PROCEDURE p (msg VARCHAR2, nl BOOLEAN := TRUE) IS
    BEGIN
    dbms_output.put_line (msg);
    IF nl THEN dbms_output.put(CHR(10)); END IF;
    END:
    BEGIN
    doc := xml.parse(BFileName('XML_DIR','OpenXMLFile.xml'));
    node_list := xpath.selectNodes(doc, '/w:wordDocument/w:body/w:p/w:r/w:t');
    FOR j IN 0..dbms_xmldom.getLength(node_list)-1
    LOOP
    p( xpath.valueOf(dbms_xmldom.item(node_list, j), '.'), nl=>FALSE );
    END LOOP;
    Here is the error message.
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
    ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
    LPX-00601: Invalid token in: '/w:wordDocument/w:body/w:p/w:r/w:t

    ORA-06512: at line 38
    I really don't know why I got this error message nor how to solve it. If I remove "w:" manually within open xml file, then parsing works well. I guess XML parser for PL/SQL doesn't recognize ":" or maybe doesn't support namespace?
    My question is
    1. In oracle 10g release2, XML Parser for PL/SQL can recognize ":" in the element name? or does it support namespace? If not, is there any workaround for solving this problem?
    2. How can I make XML Parser recognize ":" in the element name in the xml file or How can I declare namespace in the PL/SQL code so that PL/SQL xml parser can recognize namespace like "w:"?
    In fact, I don't use XML DB and what I want to do is just to load XML file into the relational table and some parts of whole XML file will be inserted into the CLOB in the table.
    Should I really use XML DB to do the above job?
    Any comment or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    This works correctly. I added prefixes to your extract path. (I had to add the xmlns:xsi to your root node also.)
    declare
      -- Local variables here
       doc_in       dbms_xmldom.DOMDocument;
       aNodeList    dbms_xmldom.DOMNodeList;
    begin
      -- Test statements here
      doc_in := dbms_xmldom.newdomdocument(
    '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>' ||
    '<ap:Collection xmlns:ap="http://www.abc.com/ap" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.abc.com/ap template.xsd"> ' ||
    '<ap:info>' ||
    '<ap:data name="Barbie" age="3">' ||
    '</ap:data>' ||
    '</ap:info>' ||
    '</ap:Collection>');
      aNodeList := dbms_xslprocessor.selectNodes(dbms_xmldom.makeNode(doc_in),
                                                 '/ap:Collection/ap:info',
                                                 'xmlns:ap="http://www.abc.com/ap"');
      dbms_output.put_line('length of aNodeList = '|| dbms_xmldom.getLength(aNodeList) );
    end;

    Hi Foreverduy,
    Before you run SQL Server 2008 express setup, make sure that you have installed Windows installer 4.5 and.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 manually. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.100).aspx. Moreover, please turn off all the third-party softwares which could prohibit the installation process.
    According to your error message, the issue could be due to that your account has no rights to install SQL Server, or the corruption on the media.
    Firstly, please ensure that your account has admin rights. Also make sure that you right-click the setup.exe and choose “Run as administrator” to complete the installation.
    Secondly, please check if "msdbdata.mdf" file exists at d:\8268cd7b247d294de359c9\x86\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\MSSQL.X\MSSQL\Binn\Template. If it exists, please make sure that your account has read permission to the extracted
    folder.
    However, if the file doesn't exist in the extraction, the media could be corrupt. Please download the
    media
    again and check if the issue still occurs.

    Michelle Li

  • How can I read a file with ASCII Special Character into a SQL table using SSIS 2008?

    I've tried everything to read this file and am getting no where.   Help how can I read this file and load a SQL table?
    RS - AscII - 30  (Record Separator)
    GS - AscII - 29 (Group Separator)
    Thank you for your assistance - Covi
    Mark Covian

    We can use script component as source/transformation to read the text file and assign the contains to a string. Split the string by chr(30)  i.e RS and finally stored into an array or write to the output buffer of the script component.
    For example on how to use script component refer this link

  • How to read a text file through pl/sql

    How to read a text file through pl/sql

    pl/sql runs inside the database. so your file also should be on the database server file system for you to be able to read.
    check out UTL_FILE package. This is the database package to read/write files on the database server.

  • Reading a file and parsing the data for a calculation method

    i am trying to read a file with 3 feilds double double and int . am able to read the file but i am getting an exception right befor i parse the data ...code
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    import java.io.FileReader;
    import java.io.*;
    //import com.sun.java.util.jar.pack.Package.File;
    public class FileTester {

         public static void main(String[] args) {
              BufferedReader in = null;
              try{
              File f = new File ("loan.txt.txt");
              in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(f));
              catch(FileNotFoundException e)
                   System.out.println("file does not exist");
                   System.exit(0);
              try{
              String mLine = in.readLine();
              while (mLine != null){
                   System.out.println(mLine);
                   mLine = in.readLine();
              }}catch(Exception e)
              {System.out.println(e.getMessage());
              String []data = mLine.split("\t");
              double loan = Double.parseDouble(data[0]);
              double interest = Double.parseDouble(data[1]);
              int term = Integer.parseInt(data[2]);
              System.out.println(loan+interest+term);
    afterwards i would like to break this up into three methods to feed the values to a calculation class

    Take a look at your while loop. It continues to loop as long as mLine != null. Therefore it stops looping when mLine IS = null. So can you now see why the following line of code would cause problems?
    String []data = mLine.split("\t");How is the data stored in your file? Is it a single line with the three values separated by a tab? If so you can do away with the while loop and just call readLine() once. Otherwise you will have to process each line you read inside the while loop.
    P.S. use the code button when posting code. There is a button above the textfield when use post a reply.

  • Reading/Parsing a CSV file in UTF-16 ?

    Hello everyone,
    I'm in rush to modify my current CSV file parser that works fine for files in UTF-8 , to be able to parse the UTF-16 as well, as far as I checked the sample plugins, didn't find any code,
    Also how could have support for both encodings? to do this I need to recognize the encoding by reading the file first then decide how to read from stream, any advice/ snippet will greatly appreciated.
    P.S. I'm using this code to read a file
    stream = StreamUtils::CreateFileStreamRead()
    stream ->XferByte(aChar) // in a loop till find a eol char
    I need to use to read the 2 bytes, i had some experiment with XferInt16 but seems it doesn't do what i want...
    Regards,
    Kamran

    I had forgotten to skip the first two bytes in this case, Now I can read the file properly with XferInt16, also you may consider Byte Swapping for BigEndian in parsing process.

    I intend to use this library because I want to run a script on my machine to treat an excel file without having to make changes on the server.
    Thank you.

    Ranit's links are useful, you should read them.
    Also check out the FAQ on this forum:Re: 5. How do I read or write an Excel file?
    UTL_FILE is not the best choice for reading data from Excel files.
    It also will not be able to read an Excel file located on your client computer.  As with any PL/SQL code on the database, it can only access things that the server itself can see, so that doesn't include hacking across the network, bypassing network security, and hacking into the client computers operating system to read files directly from it's hard disk.  This isn't how client server architecture is intended to work.

  • SQL Loader reads Data file Sequentially or Randomly?

    Will SQL Loader loads the data read from file Sequentially or Randomly?
    I have the data file like the below
    one
    two
    three
    four
    and my control file is
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    TRUNCATE
    INTO TABLE T TRAILING NULLCOLS
    x RECNUM,
    y POSITION (1:4000)
    so my table will be polulated like
    X Y
    1 one
    2 Two
    3 Three
    4 Four
    Will this happend sequentially even for the large data sets? say i have from one to one million datas in my data files.
    Please clarify.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh.

    SQL Loader may read the file sequentially, but you should not rely on the physical ordering of the rows in the table.
    It looks like that's what you were hinting at.

  • Reading a CSV file with PL/SQL

    Hello:
    I have a CSV file provided to me by a client. We want to insert the data from this file into a table and perform other processing.
    Is it possible to call a CSV file within PL/SQL? If so, how do I begin?
    Thanks.

    SQL*Loader doesn't work very well in PL/SQL.
    Better is External Tables:
