Reader X plugin integration with Windows Explorer 8 and Protected Mode

Hello
I am viewing pdfs with Reader 10.1.3 within ie8 on XP
I have a Reader plug-in (WordFinder.api) that works ok with Protected Mode disabled.
Unfortunately I have customers that require Protected Mode enabled and this stops the plugin working.
Within my code, calling DdeConnect returns 0 (fail)
I have populated and enabled the ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt but cannot account for the final access error for DINPUTWINMM
Here is the log...

Hi Fernando,
Here's a statement that hopefully helps or at least solves your mystery:
While Protected Mode can be disabled for PDFs viewed with the product, Adobe continues to protect you when 3rd party software invokes a Reader process; that is, Protected Mode sandboxing cannot be disabled for shell extensions. For example, when you use Windows Explorer to preview a PDF in the Preview Pane, it starts a Reader process to display the preview. In such cases, Task Manager shows that two AcroRd32.exe processes spawn and that the operation is occurring with Protected Mode enabled.

  • Reader X integration with Windows Explorer and protected mode

    Hello all.
I'm having some problems with Adobe Reader X under Windows 7 and it seems that I need to disable protected mode. I disabled it by unchecking the related option in edit-preferences, also I created the registry key for the local user (bProtectedMode = 0).
After doing that, the protected mode seems to be disables when I open pdf documents with Reader X, but it's still enabled when previewing documents thumbnails in windows explorer. The issue is that when I open a folder containing pdf files and left click or right click them, two AcroRd32.exe processes spawn and it seems to me that it's a protected mode behaviour (broker process + sandboxed renderer process).
I'd like to know if it's possible to fully disable protected mode so that it remains disabled even when I'm navigating directories with Windows Explorer and documents are previewed. My current Adobe Reader version is 10.1.3.
    Thank you very much.

  • Flash Player integrated with Windows 8 has stopped working...can't seem to upgrade to newer version Flash Player ?

One day watched videos with no problem.  Next day, can't watch videos!  Site says I need Flash 10.0 or higher.  When I try to check what version I have, it says that Flash player is integrated with Windows 8, no need to install Flash Player.  I am thinking that there are newer versions of Flash Player than what is integrated with Windows 8, but it's like I'm going around in circles, can't seem to upgrade to a newer version.

First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11
If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative.

  • Your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer - related to multiple uploads?

    Hi folks -
I've read through some threads regarding "Your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer" and it seems a lot of folks have a lot of solutions throughout the forum posts.  Is there anything official or semi-official regarding
    this?
I've tried a lot of the fixes including:
checking to see if the WebClient service is on
modifying so-and-so registry (I've since changed them back since they seem to have no effect)
and changing various settings in Internet Options including making sure the site is in the Local intranet zone.
I could live without this functionality but just recently my upload-multiple-files functionality in SharePoint 2010 has also gone away (red x instead of directory UI).  I wonder if it's related somehow and could give us a clue.
If it helps I'm using various browsers but of the IE flavor 8 and 9 32-bit as the base for testing this.

For SharePoint 2013 (so could apply to 2010 as well), my problem was that I was trying to "Open with Explorer"
something that probably can't be opened with Explorer. In my case, I just wanted to open my team's Shared Documents with Explorer. I found that when I first log into SharePoint and view the page, I'm presented with those Shared Documents, but also other things
    as well.
To get "Open with Explorer" to work, I must click "Shared Documents" under the Libraries heading on
the left. Then, all the other stuff (Links, Getting Started, etc.) go away and I'm focused on my team's shared documents. From there, I can go up to the Library Tools section in the ribbon, choose the Library tab in the ribbon, and click Open with Explorer.
    Works like a champ on Windows 7 64-bit, running IE 9 32-bit.
Unfortunately that's not what was going on in my case.  One obvious way to check is to see if other people or other computers can Open with Explorer.  In my case it was just this one machine on my desk that had the issue.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got “Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer” error.
Did you enable the both authentication (Windows and FBA) on default zone.
As far as I remember when FBA is enabled on the same zone when Windows is used, it breaks whole client integration.
So it will be better if you will recheck your architecture and will use different zones for Windows and FBA.
There is also another thing to try: use claims based authentication with authentication provider which will work both with Windows and FBA.
What’s more, you can also check with below steps.
Use compatibility mode to check whether it works.
    Open IE->Tools->Compatibility View Settings
Add the site into Trusted sites to check whether it works..
Open the IE->Internet Options->Security->Sites->add the site into the Websites, then check whether it works.
In addition, you can also try to enable Basic authentication on the client computer, by setting the BasicAuthLevel registry entry of the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

  • Trying to open a sharepoint library in Windows Explorer via IE 8 results in the error "your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer"

I am attempting to connect to a Microsoft Sharepoint library, via the "Actions -> Open in Windows Explorer" option from the Sharepoint page.  When I do so, I get the error message "your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer".  In short, I am trying to get the "drag and drop" functionality of a Sharepoint library.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit and IE8.  The target Sharepoint environment is a MOSS 2007 EE.  My Windows "WebClient" service is running, and I have no problem connecting to this exact library via a Windows XP computer running IE8.

Verify that the Webclient is started automatically from the Services.msc
Verify that your Portal is in the Intranet local security zone (You can reach it from Your Internet Explorer Browser Security Tag) if not add it to the list
restart the WebClient service if it's work good
If not you have to create a network share to your portal URL directly not your documents library.
Open Windows Explorer or My Computer from the Windows Start Menu.
From the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive…. A new Map Network Drive window opens.
In the Map Network Drive window, choose an available drive letter from the dropdown list located next to the "Drive:" option. Any drives already mapped will have a shared folder name displayed inside the dropdown list, next to the drive letter.
Type the name of the folder to map wich is in this case your SharePoint Portal URL (Don't include the documents libraries)
Click the "Reconnect at login" checkbox if this network drive should be mapped permanently. Otherwise, this drive will un-map when the user logs out of this computer.
If the remote computer that contains the shared folder requires a different username and password to log in, click the "different user name" hyperlink to enter this information.
    Click Finish.
I am looking for a suite method :)

  • Explorer View - Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer MOSS 2007 '

We recently had a major deployement, after which Explorer View started giving error message.
Before deployement, all was working fine.
Error: Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer
    Webclient service is already enabled.
The site has been added to trusted site lists.
All Active-x controls have been enabled.
    Browser: Internet Explorer 8 - 32 bit.
Microsoft Office 32 bit is also installed.
    Thanx in advance.

You could try updating the following registry key on a client PC as a test: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Paramenters\AuthForwardServerList to include the URL of your sharpoint site. Add the root site and it might enable this functionality.

    Hi Dollie,
I am wondering whether you want to upload multiple documents into SharePoint library once.
If yes, you can try to use Drag and drop feature in SharePoint 2013 to upload multiple documents into SharePoint library.
More information about Drag and drop feature, you can refer to:

  • Open With Windows Explorer very slow

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where some users of our SharePoint environment have problems using the open with windows explorer option in a document library.
For some users this works fine...  the explorer opens quickly and they can manage the documents.
For other users it takes up to 5 minutes before the explorer view opens.  During this time the browser becomes completly unresponsive.
As part of the troubleshooting process I tried taking the UNC path that is shown in the explorer view and tried using the Start -> Run and then entering in the path.   This seems to cause the complete desktop to freeze until the explorer window displays.
This is occuring on Windows XP SP Pro SP2 with both IE6 and IE7.   The desktops are on the same domain as the SharePoint servers.
    Any thoughts on next steps?

I had similar issues with WSS 3 and MOSS 2007.  Some users would experience slow load times when using IE8.
    A. The authentication fix for Microsoft included the following:
    In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > WebClient > Parameters, add a new Multi-String Value named "AuthForwardServerList".
In the Value data field, add one URL you visit, following by the SharePoint server FQDN on the next line.  Repeat for each URL you are having long wait times for.  In the end, you'll have something like:
    https://*.yourdomain.com
    sharepointservername.yourdomain.com
    https://otherspsite.yourdomain.com
    otherspservername.yourdomain.com
The idea behind this is to explicitly tell WebDAV where to first go for authentication.  This cleared up the majority of access speed issues with SP and we were back to sub-second access.
    B. Occasionally that access would degrade for some reason for certain users.  Turns out to be MS updates that make changes to IE settings.  We go to IE Options > Advanced Settings tab and hit RESET.  Whatever RESET does fixed the speed
    issues with Explorer View.
    C.  Users who installed IE9 had major problems where access would take more than one minute to access these document libraries via Explorer View.  And that's one minute for every navigation click.  Double-click on a folder, wait a minute.
IE9 must have changed the authentication methodology for WebDAV since this was universally experienced for all IE9 users.  MS couldn't provide a resolution on this.  Our fix was to remove the IE9 update and revert back to IE8.  Everything
went back to normal without having to make any changes to the Registry or IE settings.  Doh!

If you're using the 32-bit version and still having issues, you may need to repair or reinstall Office so that the underlying Office DLLs (on which those browser features rely) are clean.
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/27319/how-do-i-enable-open-in-explorer
You might be using 64-bit Internet Explorer. Switching to 32-bit IE caused the featured to become enabled. There was absolutely no indication in the application that this could possible be the cause. It was a shot in the dark.
    Mind: blown.
The Plan Browser Support article on TechNet lists the supported browsers and limitations in "non- or partially supported browsers".
It states the following among the limitations for 64bit IE 7, 8 and 9:
    Explorer view
Removed in SharePoint Foundation 2010. Libraries that have been upgraded from earlier versions of SharePoint Foundation 2010 may still have Explorer views and these may not work.
