Reading from an array

Hi everyone,
i have read a .txt file (printed from matlab as table) into labview as array indicator.
i used array index to send the values from the array to their outputs, like some values connected to DAQ as voltage output, some sent to indicators to just show the value on the GUI some are sent to xy graph to be ploted.
however, the DAQ does not really read the value because the intensity of the LEDs dont really change with changing the value.
the second problem for the xy graph i used the buddle to connect two array indices as x and y and when i connected the buddle to the xy graph it shows diconnected line
any solutions or what is that happening?

You definitly currently use a waveform graph (even if you label the axes x and y ) First you need to replace with an xy graph, which is very different in datatype.
Do you want to add one xy point whenever you look at a new spectrum or do you want to graph all points (one for each spectrum) at once? That would be easier. If you want to add one point at a time, the "build xy graph express VI" set to "not clear data between calls" is the easiest solution. Otherwise you need to append the new point to an existing array of points kept in a shift register.
Also note that sliders have a digital display (right-click...show digital display) so you only need one terminal.

    No - you would need to create a SQL type and then use the TABLE operator to unnest the collection.

  • Why does Read from Text file default to array of 9 elements

    I am writing to a text file starting with a type def. cluster (control) of say 15 dbl numeric elements, that works fine I open the tab-delimited text file and all of the elements appear in the file.  However when I read from the same text file back to the same type def. cluster (indicator), the read from text file defaults to 9 elements?? Is there a way to control how many elements are read from the file.  This all works great when I initially use a cluster of 9 elements and read back to a cluster of 9 elements.

    Converts a 1D array to a cluster of elements of the same type as the array elements. Right-click the function and select Cluster Size from the shortcut menu to set the number of elements in the cluster.
    The default is nine. The maximum cluster size for this function is 256.

  • Reading in an array from a text file

    I'm trying to use a text file to load in some configuratin
    data (using actionscript 3) I have it working ok for simple stuff
    like gamename=Chess&gamescore=100 , etc... but some of the data
    needs to be in an array. Can someone please point me in the right
    direction to how I can read in an array from a text file?

    the easiest way is to create a string with the (soon-to-be)
    array elements separated by a delimiter (like a double comma). read
    in your string, then use the split() method of strings to split
    your string into an array.

  • Read from .txt file and output the content as two arrays

    I am using the contoured move to control the x-y stage. The trajectory datas for x and y axis are generated using my interpolation program and it is stored in a .txt file as two columns. What I want to do is read .txt file and output the content of this file as two arrays. Is there anyone has any ideas? Thanks, the .txt file is attached.

    This is quite easy to do, you can merely use the "read from spreadsheet file" function to get a 2D array (2 columns and n rows) and then use the index array function to get whatever row/colums you want..

  • Making the vi faster - read from txt or array or binary reading

    I prepared a vi that reads a table from txt file and find the desired values corresponding independent two variables by interpolation-attached. This via reads the txt file for each calculation. I wonder that is this process slow or enough for me. Becasue I add this via to a daq vi and I send measurement values from this via to the interpolation.vi. I acquired samples once in a sec. Or is this more convenient to read the txt once and after writing values to arrays and use these arrays as a constant (Right click array-->Data Operation-->Make current value default) in the vi? Which one is faster? And also, I wonder that instead of reading from txt file, is it a good way to convert my values in txt to binary data and read this binary values by vi? Last thing, how can I learn a vi program run-spend time?

    Reordering your words a bit... Are you asking how to measure how long it takes to run your VI?  You can do this with a sequence structure (one of the few reasonable uses for them): in the first frame put a "Tick Count" or "Get Date/Time in Seconds" function.  In the next frame put your code.  In the last frame, put the same function that you placed in the first frame.  Subtract the time value in the first frame from the value in the last frame; the difference is the time it took to run your VI in milliseconds or seconds (depending on which time function you used).

    Thank you nathand. I am sorry for usage of wrong order. I tried your suggestion and it works great. The first vi takes 4-6 msec. And the second one takes just 0 msec because it does not calculate anything, including just constant values.

    I need help to build a 1D(string) array from a MS Excel file. I've tried using read from spreaaadsheet/ read from Meaurement file. I'm unable to do this. The excel file contains alpha-numeric data. please suggest with some example vis.

  • How to delete rows from 2D array in this case...

    Hello. I'm just begging adventure with labview so please for patient. I created a program whitch suppose work in following way:
    2D Input array is array created by FOLDER BROWSING subVI. It works in this way,that browse folder and looking for txt files whose contanins measurment data. In my case subVI founds 4 files,and from theirs headers read information about what kind of data are in file also their's path. In this way is created 2D Input Array. subVI named PLOTS FROM PATHS ARRAY make picture with polar/XY plot. It's create only those plots and legends on one picture as many files(their paths) is setted to the program by output array. I made this subVI in that way and I would not like to change it. 
    My problem is that in even loop (witch check for any change by user) program suppose to relay anly those rows(files) for which checkbox are marked, e.g. marking anly 1 and 4 box, program should chose from input array row 1 and 4 only and pass them to output array,then  PLOTS FROM PATHS ARRAY subVI makes a picture only with 1 and 4 plot and legend only for plot 1 and 4. The best solution would be some relay witch is avtivated by logical signal. It lost to me ideas how to solve it, I'm just in blaind corner...
    I tried to use delete from array but I don't know how to do use it properly in this program,becease it can be only before or afeter for loop. Below is scan of front panel and also main problem. Please set me up somehow to solve this problem.

  • How to delete string from an array

    I just want to know that what changes i can do to delete the string if contains any extra characters like digits and punctuation marks in the middle or begining of the string but not at the end of the string, i've already tried to delete only the punctuation marks at the end of the string and keep that word. Please dont forget that i m a beginer

    The code that you pasted does not seem like written by a beginner. So, did you write the code?
    If so, you should have no problem solving this simple thing.
    If not, then copy and pasting a block of program that you don't understand will keep you as a beginner all the time, so can't help you if you are willing to stay at beginner.

  • Problem with ArrayLists and writing and reading from a .dat file (I think)

    I'm brand new to this forum, but I'm sure hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having with ArrayLists. This program was originally created with an array of objects that were displayed on a GUI with jtextFields, then cycling thru them via jButtons: First, Next, Previous, Last. Now I need to add the ability to modify, delete and add records. Both iterations of this program needed to write to and read from a .dat file.
    It worked just like it was suppose to when I used just the array, but now I need to use a "dynamic array" that will grow or shrink as needed: i.e. an ArrayList.
    When I aded the ArrayList I had the ArrayList use toArray() to fill my original array so I could continue to use all the methods I'd created for using with my array. Now I'm getting a nullPointerException every time I try to run my program, which means somewhere I'm NOT filling my array ???? But, I'm writing just fine to my .dat file, which is confusing me to no end!
    It's a long program, and I apologize for the length, but here it is. There are also 2 class files, a parent and 1 child below Inventory6. This was written in NetBeans IDE 5.5.1.

    BalusC -- The line that gives me my NullPointerException is when I call the "DisplayProduct()" method. Its a dumb question, but with NetBeans how do I find out which reference could be null? I'm not very familiar with how NetBeans works with finding out how to debug. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.The IDE is com-plete-ly irrelevant. It's all about the source code.
    Do you understand anyway when and why a NullPointerException is been thrown? It is a subclass of RuntimeException and those kind of exceptions are very trival and generally indicate an design/logic/thinking fault in your code.

  • How to open saved files using 'read from text file' function

    Hi everyone, I am having a hard time trying to solve the this particular problem ( probably because I am a newb to lanbview ). Anyway , I am able to save the acquired waveforms by using the 'Write to text file' icon. I did manually modify the block diagram of the 'Write to text file' icon and create the correct number of connector so as to make my program work. But now I have no idea on how to modify the block diagram of the 'Read from text file' block diagram to make my program 'open' my saved waveforms. Or i do not have to modify anything from the block diagram of the 'Read from text file'? Can anyone teach/help me connect up? Do i need the build array on the "open" page?

    Ohmy, thanks altenbach. oh yeah i forgot about those sub VIs. will upload them now. Was rather demoralized after reading the comments and really struck me on how weak i'm at on labview really hope to get this done. But of course i have to study through and see how it works. Actually i am going to replace those 'signal generators sub vi' with ThoughtTechonology's sample code so i can obtain data waveforms real-time using Electrocardiography (ECG) ,Electromyography (EMG ) and Electroencephalography (EEG) hopefully i can find out how to connect the sample code.
    ( ps . cant connect it now unless my program is working otherwise labview will crash ) 
    ( p.s.s the encoder of my biofeedback trainer already acts as an DAQ so i wont need to place an DAQ assistant in my block diagram i suppose )

  • LabVIEW for ARM 2009 Read from text file bug

    Hello,
    If you use the read from text file vi for reading text files from a sdcard there is a bug when you select the option "read lines"
    you cannot select how many lines you want to read, it always reads the whole file, which cause a memory fault if you read big files!
    I fixed this in the code (but the software doesn't recognize a EOF anymore..) in CCGByteStreamFileSupport.c
    at row 709 the memory is allocated but it tries to allocate to much (since u only want to read lines).
    looking at the codes it looks like it supposed to allocated 256 for a string:

    but cnt is never false since if you select read lines this is the size of the file!
    the variable linemode is also the size of the file.. STRANGE!

      cnt = BUFINCR;
    and now the read line option does work, and reads one line until he sees CR or LF or if the count of 256 is done.
    maybe the code is good but the data link of the vi's to the variables may be not, (cnt and linemode are the size of the file!)
    count should be the number of lines, like chars in char mode.
    linemode should be 0 or 1.
    Hope someone can fix this in the new version!

    I have another solution, the EOF works with this one.
    the cnt is the bytes that are not read yet, so the first time it tries to read (and allocate 4 MB).
    you only want to say that if it's in line mode and cnt > 256 (BUFINCR) cnt = BUFINCR
    the next time cnt is the value of the bytes that are not read yet, so the old value minus the line (until CR LF) or if cnt (256) is reached.
    with this solution the program does not try to allocate the whole file but for the max of 256.

    don't use the count input when using the vi in line mode. count does not make sense, cnt will be the total file size. also the output will be an array.
