Reading Voltage Drops Across Multiple Resistors

HI,
We are creating a PC interfaced IC tester. To do this we need to be able to monitor and record the behavior of the chip in question. The easiest way we have come up with to do this is to place common resistors on the inputs and outputs of these basic devices. By doing this we will be able to read the voltage drop across each resistor, since we know the resistance we can then figure out the current, we measured the voltage and we know all we need to. The problem we are having is reading in multiple channels of data at once. We are using Labview version 7.0 and DAQ PCI-6024E and have our inputs set up in differential mode. We can get one channel to read but when two are connected we have problems with our readings being affected by each other. I have attached the vi file so if anyone can be of any assistance it would be much appreciated. We are beginners here so please be as specific as possible and dumb it down if necessary.

Hi Rylon-
It sounds like you are seeing ghosting of signals between your channels. KnowledgeBase "How Do I Eliminate Ghosting From My Measurements?" should be helpful in reducing this effect.
KnowledgeBase "Seeing the Same Signal on Several Scanned Channels, Especially when No Signal Is Conn... may also be pertinent if you are leaving the channels you're not testing without connections between testing channels.

Frequent Connection Drops Across Multiple Devices (Macs, PC's, iPhone)

I have the Airport Extreme Base Station, running the latest firmware (v5.7) and across the entire house, across multiple devices (Macbook Pro, iPhone, Dell Laptop), the Airport's signal will drop from 5/5 bars down to 1/5 or to 0. Even while very close to the access point itself.
The Macbook Pro is running the latest version of Leopard with all firmware updates applied. The Dell is running Windows XP SP3, all latest drivers installed. The iPhone (first gen) is running the latest firmware.
What can I do to fix this problem?
Everytime the signal drops from 5/5 to 1/5, sometmes 0, ... if I click on the airport status in the menubar, it says Scanning. Disable Airport, re-enable, and I'm good to go. This is very frustrating especially when using the iChat video chat.
I could have purchased a far lesser expensive generic Linksys or Netgear router, but decided to go with Apple for their trusted name in electronic devices. I paid a pretty penny expecting a better product than the competition, yet it doesn't seem to perform as well as the generic routers out there.
What can I do to fix this problem, or do I need an entirely new Airport altogether? If it's the latter... I learned my lesson and Linksys/Netgear here I come.

I see the base station has a port for an external antenna. Is this a standard jack (like RP-SMA) that I could use any antenna with? Or does that port still pass through the (failing) Airport card inside?
The external antenna would, effectively, bypass the unit's internal antenna. However, as you already surmised, it would still require the internal AirPort Extreme card as well.
And price wise would it make sense to invest in a new antenna or just get a new WAP?
I would go with a new WAP. Either way, I would go with a vendor that has a good return policy just in case this doesn't solve the problem.

Time Machine "read-only" error across multiple drives

I've been having an ongoing problem for more than a year now. I continually get a "read-only" error message from Time Machine. To be specific, the message is: "Time Machine could not complete the backup. Files can’t be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be read-only. You may need to repair or reformat the disk using Disk Utility. If the disk can’t be repaired, you must use a different disk for backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk."
The problem is, this has happened with three separate backup drives. They are all G-Tech 2TB 4th Generation G-Drive external hard drives. So I'm wondering if there may be a Mac OS software problem, or perhaps a hardware problem.
There's a lot to this story, so if you're game, read on.
First, about a year ago, I noticed that my Mac Pro frequently spontaneously ejected the backup drive, for no apparent reason. I didn't deal with the problem right away because I was having other, pressing troubles with my display (which took forever to solve).
In early-mid 2013, I tried a few disk repairs of my backup disk, as well as erasing the disk (and correctly formatting as Mac OS Extended Journaled). The disk was failing to mount at that point, so G-Tech sent me a replacement drive (a refurbished drive of exactly the same type).
With the replacement drive, I was getting the same "read-only" message. So I tried a few times erasing/reformatting/repartitioning this drive. No luck.
So I was sent yet another replacement drive. I experienced the same problems, and in addtion, I once got a message saying the backup drive was full when it actually wasn't. So I tried a) using a different firewire cable, b) using this different cable on a different port. Same problems.
In the meantime, I did some backups with an old Glyph drive, using the same FW800 port, and the same cable (the 2nd cable), and I had no problems. The reason I don't use this Glyph drive as my normal backup drive is that it is only 500 GB and not large enough to back up all three of my MP internal drives.
A couple other items of note: back in August of 2013, one of my MP's internal hard drives had to be replaced (it was determined to be having multiple input/output errors). Also, I've had a intermittent problem with the MP spontaneoulsy ejecting a couple different Lexar USB flash drives, even after I reformatted them repeatedly (but this has never happened with my ADATA flash drives). I suppose these things may be unrelated, but for the sake of completeness, I thought I'd include them.
So it seems like maybe it's a compatibility issue the G-Tech Drives? I'd be surprised...but I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

Best structure to measure voltage across 8 resistors in parallel via 8 separate analog channels

Im setting up a simple circuit w/ 8 resistors in parallel. It will be connected to a PCI 6036E DAQ. I need to measure the voltage across each resistor, take x amount of samples, and then automatically move on to the next resistor and so on and also save the values to a file. Im going to connect each resistor to a separate analog channel. I have already setup a vi to read the voltage across one resistor and take X amount of samples, display the waveform, and also save the data to a file.
What would the best structure be to run this test? I am thinking a Sequence structure, but it seems like people tend to avoid using that. Or would a case/while loop be better?
From my understanding, the data will not pass out of a sequence structure until it is finished. this doesnt seem to be that big of a problem for me, as I only want the data at the end....

Use a for loop. Put your code inside the loop, but delete the analog channel number. Make an array constant and poplulate the array with each analog channel number. If you wire the array to the loop (left side), you will see the terminal is a hollow box. This means indexing. The loop will operate on the first array element, then repeat with the second array element, and so on until all array elements have been processed. Wire the hollow box to the point in your code where the analog channel number was deleted. Now the loop will execute the same code using a different channel each time. If you wire the output to the right edge of the for loop, you will again see the hollow box. All of your measurements will be contained in an array at that hollow box. Process the outputs as you like, maybe display the entire array, or index the array to get the individual elements, whatever. The advantage of the for loop is that you have to write your code only once. Everything is seen on one screen making it easier to read. Sequence structures are not good programming practice because a lot of the code is hidden, and you have to go to different sequence frames to see the hidden code. Also, why duplicate the code in each frame when the loop will do it all. Good luck.

Can iTunes read across multiple drives?

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Quicksilver PowerMac with 1x 30Gb (Master) and 1x 80Gb (slave) installed.
I’ve put all my music onto the 80Gb but iTunes will only look at the music I have installed on the master drive. Can iTunes see music across multiple drives and make them all show as one within the iTunes window? As currently I can’t access them.

Does this also work in the opposite direction? I have a startup disk that is full and I want to move my existing library onto a second physical disk in an attempt to free up space on the startup disk.
How do I then have itunes add new media to the itunes library on the startup disk instead of the now virtually full second physical disk?

Filestream Partitioning across multiple drives

I have a SQL 2008 R2 ENT database with the single [PRIMARY] filegroup, and a single FilestreamGroup. The filestream has millions of records, cannot be restored, and is about to exceed the drive space limit.
The table with the single filestream column has a primary key column that is also the Cluster index key. There is a Full Text index and several foreign key constraints to this table's primary key. All must be disabled prior to dropping and rebuilding
the index for partitioning (tried and tested).
The filestream must be spread across multiple drive letters, and have multiple partitions on each drive, to facilitate file-restores within SLA. Due to its size, it may exceed the weekend maintenance window, and therefore must be done ONLINE to allow
the business to save new documents while the rebuild is in operation.
How should I cobble this up into Filegroups / Files? A data filegroup per drive. What is Best Practice for the filestream?

I have never worked with it, but it seems very logical. If you create a partition that says that some data should be in other partition, the data has to be moved to that partition. And, yes, it has to remain in the old partition as well, in case you do a
restore to point-in-time. This is no different than if you just delete a row.
To get rid of the rows in the old partition, you need backup the transaction log, checkpoint and backup the log again, if memory serves.
As for the font issue, the editor in the web UI stinks. That's one reason I stick to the NNTP bridge.

Have 1 POP3 email account I want to work like IMAP email in icloud. Apple suggested created a new Apple ID just for POP3. Has anyone tried this to see if it works and will delete across multiple devises?

Would mean keeping up with two Apple ID accounts but only other alternative I know of is paying for monthly service for Microsoft 365.

Not easily, no. There's no direct transfer option between POP and IMAP, especially across email providers. The best you could do would be to forward all of your emails to your new address, although it's not clear that you need to - dropping your sbcglobal.net account doesn't instantly render all your existing mail void - it'll still be in your Mail client, you can still read it, search it, etc., it just won't be on your provider's server.
I have toyed with the idea of getting a MobileMe account. Would that solve my issue/question above?
MobileMe would be viable, especially if you're interested in synching your various iOS devices. It's not free, of course, unlike Yahoo and Gmail, although you've already discounted them...
I have also toyed with purchasing my own URL, but it's hard to tell from the sites (1and1, Namecheap, etc.) if they come with IMAP email accounts included.
Some registrars offer email hosting bundles with a domain registration. This could be a good way to go. GoDaddy, for example, have a email hosting option for domains you register with them.

NI 9264 Voltage Drop

Hi all,
I have a CompactRIO with NI 9264 module, connected to this Mass Flow Controller: http://www.omega.com/pptst/FMA2600_FVL2600.html. Acquiring the flowrate from the MFC is not a problem. However, I'm having problem in controlling the MFC using NI 9264 module. Basically, when the module is not connected to anything, I'm reading the correct voltage out from the module - correct means, the same as what the program gives. However, it is connected to the MFC, the voltage drops down to 0.4V and this is regardless of what voltage command that I give. I was told that this may be due to impedance mismatch between the module. Is this true? If yes, can anybody please elaborate further? More importantly, how do I resolve this? Will putting an additional resistor in series or in parallel to the circuit work?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've attached the datasheet to my previous reply and I'm attaching the manual in this reply, for other people's reference. We are using FMA-2600 the standard version (no optional selection selected). On wiring, based from our understanding of the explanation, we just need to connect the positive pin of the 9264 to pin 4 of the connector and the COM on 9264 to pin 8 (Ground). Voltage input is being connected to another C-Series module and using the same method (Pin 6 Output signal to positive on the module and Pin 8 ground to COM). Can you please help to clarify what do you mean when you say "250Ohm resistor to ground..."?
I agree that ideally, RS-232 is the way to go. However, the only serial port on the cRIO is connected to another instrument and we do not plan to buy another 232 module.

Sharing an iTunes Music Library across multiple user accounts.
Hello Everybody!
Firstly, this was designed to be run in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. It will not work with earlier versions of Mac OS X! Sorry.
Here's a handy tip for keeping your hard drive neat and tidy, it also saves space, what in effect will be done is an iTunes music library will be shared amongst multiple users on the same machine. There are advantages and disadvantages to using this method.
• Firstly I think it might be worthwhile to state the advantages and disadvantages to using this approach.
The advantages include:
- Space will be saved, as no duplicate files will occur.
- The administrator will be able to have complete control over the content of the iTunes library, this may be useful for restricting the content of the Library; particularly for example if computer is being used at and education institution, business or any other sort of institution where things such as explicit content would be less favorable.
- The machine will not be slowed by the fact that every user has lots of files.
The disadvantages to this system include.
- The fact that the account storing the music will have to be logged in, and iTunes will have to be active in that account.
- If the account housing the music is not active then nobody can use the iTunes library.
- There is a certain degree of risk present when an administrator account must be continually active.
- Fast User Switching must be enabled.
Overview:
A central account controls all music on the machine/network, this is achieved by storing iTunes files in a public location as opposed to in the user's directory. In effect the system will give all users across the machine/network access to the same music/files without the possibility of files 'doubling up' because two different users like the same types of music. This approach saves valuable disk space in this regard and may therefore prove to be useful in some situations.
This is a hearty process to undertake, so only follow this tutorial if you're willing to go all the way to the end of it.
Process:
Step 1:
Firstly, we need to organize the host library, I tidied mine up, removing excess playlists, random files, things like that. this will make thing a bit easier in the later stages of this process.
Once the library is tidied up, move the entire "iTunes" folder from your Home directory to the "//localhost" directory (The Macintosh HD) and ensure that files are on the same level as the "Applications", "Users", "Library" and "System" directories; this will ensure that the files in the library are available to all users on the machine (this also works for networks)
Optionally you can set the ownership of the folder to the 'administrator' account (the user who will be hosting the library.), you may also like to set the permissions of 'you can' to "Read & Write" (assuming that you are doing this through the user who will host the library); secondly you should set the "Owner" to the administrator who will be hosting the library and set their "access" to "Read & Write" (this will ensure that the administrator has full access to the folder). The final part of this step involves setting access for the "Others" tab to "Read Only" this will ensure that the other users can view but not modify the contents on the folder.
Overview:
So far we have done the following steps:
1. Organized the host library.
2. Placed the iTunes directory into a 'public' directory so that other users may use it. (this step is essential if you plan on sharing the library across multiple accounts on the same machine. NOTE: this step is only necessary if you are wanting to share you library across multiple accounts on the same machine, if you simply want to share the music across a network, use the iTunes sharing facility.
3. set ownership and permissions for the iTunes music folder.
Step 2:
Currently the administrator is the only user who can use this library, however we will address this soon. In this step we will enable iTunes music sharing in the administrator's account, this will enable other users to access the files in the library.
If you are not logged in as the administrator, do so; secondly, open iTunes and select "Preferences" from the "iTunes" menu, now click the "Sharing" tab, if "share my library on my local network" is not checked, the radio buttons below this will now become active, you may choose to share the entire libraries contents, or share only selected content.
Sharing only selected content may be useful if their is explicit content in the library and minors use the network or machine that the library is connected to.
If you have selected "share entire library" go to Step 3, if you have selected share "share selected playlists" read on.
After clicking "share selected playlists" you must then select the playlists that you intend to share across your accounts and network. Once you have finished selecting the playlists, click "OK" to save the settings.
Overview:
In this step we:
1. Enabled iTunes sharing in the administrator's account, now, users on the local network may access the iTunes library, however, users on the same machine may not.
Step 3:
Now we will enable users on the same machine to access the library on the machine. This is achieved by logging in as each user, opening iTunes, opening iTunes preferences, and clicking "look for shared music". now all users on the machine may also access the library that the administrator controls.
This in effect will mean that the user will not need to use their user library, it will be provided to them via a pseudo network connection.
As a secondary measure, I have chosen to write a generic login script that will move any content from the user's "Music/iTunes/iTunes Music" directory to the trash and then empties the user's trash.
This is done through the use of an Automator Application: this application does the following actions.
1. Uses the "Finder" action "Get Specified Finder Items"
1a. The user's "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music" folder
2. Uses the "Finder" action "Get Folder Contents"
3. Uses the "Finder" action "Move to Trash"
4. Uses the "Automator" action "Run AppleScript"
4a. with the following:

IMPORTANT: Once the script is adapted to the user account it must be set as a login item. in order to keep the script out of the way i have placed it in the user's "Library" directory, in "Application Support" under "iTunes".
Overview:
Here we:
1. Enabled iTunes sharing in the user accounts on the host machine, in effect allowing all users of the machine to view a single iTunes library.
2. (Optional) I have created a login application that will remove any content that has been added to user iTunes libraries, this in effect stops other users of the machine from adding music and files to iTunes.
Step 4:
If it is not already enabled, open system preferences and enable Fast User Switching in Accounts Options.
Summary:
We have shared a single iTunes library across multiple user account, while still allowing for network sharing. This method is designed to save space on machines, particularly those with smaller hard drives.
I hope that this hint proves to be helpful and I hope everybody will give me feedback on my process.

how to share music between different accounts on a single computer

How can I display selected tags across multiple e-mail addresses?

I receive email on a specific topic but via several e-mail addresses. How can I view selected tags where the resulting e-mails span several (7) email addresses. They are all active on my Thunderbird, but as far as I know, I can only display the selected tag on one of them at a time.
Any assistance greatly appreciated as this is a very big problem for me.

This solution does not appear to work across multiple e-mail addresses.
Perhaps I should have said "work across multiple e-mail address at the same time. I get e-mail on specific topics via several email addresses and wish to view all the tagged emails regardless of which email account in which they reside.
I could not get this solution to select more than one email account at a time.

Sharing one iTunes library across multiple accounts on the same Mac

Hello, I've poked around at some of the posts dealing with sharing one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac but it seems like this can only be done if the libary is moved to a shared folder. I realize this can be done but I was trying to share it the way it is described in a post on Apple support (See link below.). That post seemed to imply that you don't have to move the library from its original location (owned by account A, e.g.), rather just make a couple preference changes in the accounts, use fast user switching and voila. That doesn't seem to work. So my question is this: Is the only way to share one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac to move it to a shared folder? I'm running 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac. Thanks in advance!

After reading this and several other related threads, I am becoming thoroughly confused about all of this. I have a situation similar to the one that pokerpal described in the post dated January 7 at 8:06 pm, except that the music files on my system are located on an external hard drive. Everything else is pretty much the same though - I am the admin user (and the main iTunes user and maintainer) and my girlfriend is a standard user who has no music in her own iTunes library. She can see and listen to and make playlists from and sync her iPod with the music in this library from her account, and I can do the same thing, independent of her, from my account. And if I make a change to information within a song, she doesn't see it, and vice versa, and I understand that. What I don't understand is why when I add a song or an album to the music files by importing a CD or downloading something from the iTunes Music Store, she has no way of knowing that unless I tell her, and then she can add it to her library by using the "Add to Library" function. Is there no way of automatically updating her library files to add the new song(s)? We have almost 15,000 songs and videos in that library, and I don't even want to think about what might have to happen if the answer to my question is "no." Interestingly enough, if I put an update to a Word document in the same exact location (on the hard drive), we can update that and pass it back and forth all day - why is that such a difficult task for iTunes to accomplish?
Sorry I went on so long, but this has been building up for some time, and none of the solutions I've read about here have really been of any help, so I'm a bit frustrated and, as I said at the beginning, confused.

Newbie question about setting up iTunes to sync across multiple computers

Right now I am using iTunes primarily for listening to streaming radio. However in about 2-3 weeks after I move, I am considering importing all my CDs into iTunes.
So my question is this. What can I do before I start that will make my life easier for syncing my iTunes across multiple computers.
I don't expect the computers to connect to each via internet but I do have a 4 GB flash disk and 230 GB firewire drive that could be used. And since one of the computers is MacBook Pro, I could use it in target mode I think.

Authorization only applies to computers. When you update a device any protected content on the device for which the library is not authorised will be removed. Otherwise no attempt is made to remove content that was added by a now deauthorised library.
There is a separate scheme permitting up to 10 devices (computers, iPhones, iPad or iPod touches) to be registered for automatic downloads of your purchases with a different mechanism for deregistering devices.
Once you have a file on your computer you can physically copy it to any other computer in the same way that you would copy any other file like a Word document, put it on a disk, email it if not too large, burn it to DVD, stick it on an external hard drive or move it over a network. You can use Get Info. To tell you where it is now and you can drop it into the library at the other end.
The user tip shows how to backup the whole library and then update that backup efficiently. Such a backup to a portable drive also provides a possible tool for transporting any content to another computer.

How can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans?

I'm sure this simple and a pretty common operation but how can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans? Right now I keep cut, coping and pasting the same source file between multiple projects to re-use the same code. But I could I make this source file a library file or something like that so that I could access it from any project. I assume this would be a generic operation but I mentioned NetBeans for clarity. Thanks.

Create a class library.
Write your code, compile it to .class files, put those class files in a .jar file and include the jar file in the classpath whenever you want to compile a project against it.

You will need to find a third party solution for online storage in order to share things like photos with others. Some popular solutions to this are dropbox and sugarsync.
You cannot sync non-iCloud email accounts across your iOS devices and computers unless they are IMAP accounts like iCloud. If they are IMAP accounts, you will do it in the same way as you have always done.
