Reading XML into a Hashtable

I have the following XML file:
<fields>

<date>21-05-2004</date>
</fields>
I want to put the fields in a Hashtable. Name is the key and "J. Postma" is the value. How can I parse the XML and add the fields into a Hashtable?

Dubwai, me too. But for only a half-day of effort,
you can make a few helper classes that vastly simplify
the day-to-day usage of DOM.Yes. I've done that too. To the OP, if you use DOM, realize that the text value of a single element may be in multiple Text nodes. You can't just grab the first one. You need to loop through all Text node children and concatenate their values.

• Need to Parse or Read XML into a ResultSet

Hi, I see lots of examples of folks reading from a database, populating a ResultSet, and then putting that data into an XML document. I don't see any reference to going the other way, and was hoping some of you might have an insight on how to do this.
We have a huge historical database and want to take the older info, put it into xml format, zip it, and store the zip'd result as a blob. That's the easy part.
We want to be able to go back, to read the blob, unzip it, and then populate a ResultSet and return that to the caller. I don't see any slick methodology to either 1.) instantiate an empty ResultSet or 2.) parse/read an XML structure into a ResultSet.
Any bright ideas?
Thanks, John

@maggie: That is easily done with XPath expressions, for example:
xmlstarlet sel -t -m '//servers[@country_code="us"]' -c '.' -n vpn.xml
xmlstarlet sel -T -t -m '//servers[@country_code="us"]' -v @public_name -o " " -v @bw -n vpn.xml
xmlstarlet sel -t -m '//servers[@country_code="us"]' -v '@public_name' -o ": " -v '@currentload' -n vpn.xml
xmlstarlet sel -t -m '//servers[@country_code="us" and @currentload<15]' -v '@public_name' -o ": " -v '@currentload' -n vpn.xml
xmlstarlet sel -t -m '//servers[@currentload<15]' -v '@public_name' -o ": " -v '@currentload' -n vpn.xml
http://www.w3schools.com/xpath/default.asp
Edit: If you use json and jshon, then you'll have to do the sorting and filtering in the shell
jshon -e servers -a -e country_code -u -p -e public_name -u -p -e bw -u <vpn.json | {
# filter country_code
while read -r country_code && read -r public_name && read -r bw; do
[ x"$country_code" = x"ca" ] && echo "$public_name $bw";
done
} | sort -k2,2nr -k1,1d # sort second field (bw) numeric reverse, if equal use dictionary sort on first (name)

• Issues du read XML into Oracle

Hello all,
I try to insret XML data into Oracle, and I looked on forum for tips. I found (I think) the way to do it, but I have an error :
Here is what I did : I created a table of XMLType (OK) :
CREATE TABLE XML_TAB ( xmlval XMLType);
Then I insert data directly (OK):
INSERT INTO XML_TAB VALUES (
xmltype('<?xml version="1.0"?>
<EMP>
<EMPNO>221</EMPNO>
<ENAME>John</ENAME>
</EMP>'));
Now, I want to import directly from a XML file. I try this :
INSERT INTO Xml_tab
VALUES
xmltype(bfilename('xml_dir','essai2.xml'),nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'))
it fails with ORA-06553: PLS-306: numéro ou types d'arguments erronés dans appel à 'XMLTYPE' (xml_dir is setup)
or this :
INSERT INTO Xml_tab
VALUES
xmltype('D:/TMP/XML/essai2.xml',nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'))
it fails with ORA-06553: PLS-307: trop de déclarations de 'XMLTYPE' correspondent à cet appel
I try with Oracle 9i.
Did I miss something ?
I'm not far to succeed what I want to do. Thank's a lot for your help.
Antoine

Hello,
Thanks for you answer. Oracle version is 9.2.0.4.0.
Thanks also for the BFILENAME information. My problem remains that if I try to read by entering directly the filename, I have the PLS307 error.
I will check the XMLDB FAQ, but I have seen several documentation, and process is always the same, as I do...except for the error.
I will also try in 10g, to see if it works better.

• Read XML into the database

Hi,
If I have a XML file and want to read its attributes into matching columns in a table, what is the best way to map the xml e.g. firstname to a firstname column in the table?

<firstname>Bill</firstname>
<last>Gates</last>

Thanks

Why do you want to do this? (Might help with the answer).

Hi,
Possible solutions will depend on your db version, which you didn't give.
The following example assumes you're using 10gR2 :
CREATE TABLE invoices (
invoice varchar2(20),
invoice_line number,
ship_date date,
country varchar2(100)
DECLARE
xmldoc xmltype := xmltype(
'
<dataset xmlns="http://developer.cognos.com/schemas/xmldata/1/" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<metadata>

</metadata>
<data>
<row>
<value>26623</value>

• Reading XML file from application server and put into internal table-4.6C

Dear All,
Is there any way of reading XML file from application server to SAP? I am using 4.6C. Function module SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING function module is not available. Please suggest.
Thanks and regards,
Atanu

Hi Atanu!
Simply use the XSLT transformation 'ID'.
FIELD-SYMBOLS <ls_result> TYPE ANY.
CREATE DATA lref_data TYPE (your_structure).
ASSIGN lref_data->* TO <ls_result>.
CALL TRANSFORMATION id
SOURCE XML xmlstr
RESULT result = <ls_result>.
"xmlstr" contains your XML file. Just read it into it via standard I/O operations. "<ls_result>" will contain your DDIC formatted content.
Best regards

• Read XML from a hardware sensor file into ODI

Read XML from a hardware sensor file into ODI
Hi,
I am trying to extract xml data from a flowmeter that generates XML data.
The xml file is found in http://ip_address/history.xml
I’ve defined my Topology as such
JDBC Driver: com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.SnpsXmlDriver
JDBC URL: jdbc:snps:xml?f=http://192.168.0.202/history.xml&ro=true
Please note to access the file I have to supply a username and password so I did in the definition But when testing my setup I get an error:
ava.sql.SQLException: The DTD file "http://192.168.0.202/history.dtd" doesn't exist: Server redirected too many times (20)
Please note I cannot write dtd to the device as it is a read only device.
Has anyone came across such an issue, how can I achieve this.
Thanks
Hicham

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply.
I've tried this jdbc url
jdbc:snps:xml?f=http://192.168.0.202/history.xml&d=c:\temp\history.dtd
but when I test the connection i get the following error
java.sql.SQLException: While generating the DTD from the XML file, a java.io.IOException exception occurred saying: Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: http://192.168.0.202/history.xml
If I browse http://192.168.0.202/history.xml and i supply the username and password I get an xml page.
I've supplied the username and password in the definition tab of the Data Server windows but still getting the above error.

we have tested all our transactions to and fro with out any problem. Two days back we faced sudden server shut down due to power issue.
From that day we are facing problem in reading files into XI
We are not facing any problem during outbound transactions from SAP on the same business system, where inbound folder path is also mentioned.
I have checked in Monitoring under communication channel..
it is showing comm channal is correctly configured...
is there any way i can check where it is going wrong..

• Reading XMl file from ABAP

Hi friends,
I am working in SAP 4.6c. Please help me in the following scenario.
I have to read the xml whixjh in the application server.
I have to Make sure each XML only contains 1 IDOC. If 10 idocs are pushed out , there should be 10 XML messages. 1 idoc per XML.
So if the FM receives a message that contains 10 idocs, the routine just needs to split the XML into 10 separate XML's using YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_IDOCNUMBER.XML as the new of each XML.
Convert the XML into UTF-8 compliant
above is my requirement.
Can you guide me how to read a XMl file and findout how many idocs are present in that...
Please guide me...
Thanks in advance,
Sudha

Hi Sudha,

• Reading XML file in a Store App

I have an XML file on the web which I want to read from a C# Store app. This file is actually an Atom feed, but that doesn't matter, I just want to get the XML contained within.
Anyway, I tried several methods but none of them can get me what I want.
My requirements are pretty simple, I want to get each Entry, and from it take the Summary, and from it take the entire text including the tags. The closest I got was being able to get the entire text contained within
, but without the child
tags <short-description> and <tab>, but I want them too.

Take a look at linq to xml to parse the xml
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb387098.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Another option if the xml is always in the same format you can create a class to deserialize the xml into.
