Rebuild folio for local development vs. cloud-based development

Now that the 'Preview on Device not working for iOS devices' issue is behind us how do I make my folio available locally versus being on the cloud?  Do I import all 100+ articles from the cloud and recreate a local folio version?  Or is there a better approach?
Tidbit:
Prior to the issue I built my folio locally and when the issues occurred I ended up uploading to the cloud to continue development as an interim solution.  Working on the cloud is not practical since it consumes unecessary data usage especially for folks with a capped monthly data plan with local internet service provider.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks John.  That makes sense.
One thing that I noticed since the recent fix though is when I plug in my iPad version1 via USB, the Folio Builder menu panel recognizes my iPad.  However, on the iPad/ACV screen it does not show the USB blue strip on the top left corner on my app.  Instead I see the lightning bolt blue strip.  On the other hand if I plug my iPad mini via USB, iPad Mini/ACV shows the USB blue strip which is the expected behaviour.  See attached photo.

  • [SOLVED] Recommendations needed - Arch + Apache for local development

    Hello,
I'm a new Arch user, and relatively new with Linux. I'm getting to like Arch very much.
I do web development, and I do most of my programming in PERL.
I have already installed perl and some tools, and I'm about to install apache. The Idea is to have the apache server just for local development and testing.
So the question is: Do you recommend me to install some firewall?
What security measurements should I take?
Is there any easy way to enable and disable Internet access to the apache server?
    Thank you!

    Thank you friends.
Yes, my Internet is via router. I like the Idea to set the server to listen at local address, I will try that.
Now, as I'm new to Linux and Arch, I will like to know if I should take any extra security measurements. In windows I used anti-virus + firewall all the time, and I blocked apache to access the Internet with the firewall.
I have set a strong root password, but the "normal user" has sudo. Is that secure enough?
Is there any "must have" security tools or measurements to set is a box like mine (Desktop usage + local network (3 machines) + apache for local usage and testing only)?
Is it common to get some malware, worm, trojan, spyware or some kind of phishing just by surfing the web without user "action" to install it?
I know Linux is much safer because users and permissions. I like that very much, It feels a lot safer.
Now, I have used Arch for a week or so with no firewall (router firewall is disabled also) and no anti-virus. Absolutely no special security measurements and there seems to be no log-in attempts in logfiles .. and no problems at all. Windows without firewall and anti-virus will die in a few hours just by leaving it connected to Internet....
I just wanted to ask you all (Arch users) if you normally use Firewall, and if you take some special measurement to stay free of  trojans, spyware, etc...
    I will appreciate your comments.
    Thank you!

8.0.2 - problem 1 - unable to scroll screen down or up when the keyboard is present. When typing text, I am unable to see the text I am writing due to this problem. Huge problem for emails and other cloud based providers that allow for data text entry. While the keyboard is present, I am unable to scroll down to see the text, the screen automatically scrolls back up to the top of the screen. We need a fix ASAP!

Have you tried resetting your iPad? You will not lose any data. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Where can we get GP APIs for local development?

I just realized that my local GP APIs (sap.comcafeugpapi.sda and sap.comcafeugpapi~wd.sda) are not longer valid as of SP7 due to some interface naming changes.
it'd be better if the IDE group finally incorporate the GP APIs in their build because this is a know problem for quite some time already (the missing GP APIs in NWDS).
But i'd appreciate any other ways to get them asap. Thanks, Andre

useful note Jan. thank you but only if i can get a hold of the gp apis in my local eclipse environment to reference as used Development Components for local development. Gave you the points anyway

  • Configure NWDI for local development Server only.

    Hello Gurus,
I have a Netweaver 7.0 AS JAVA + ABAP installed in my local machine.
I wanted to create a Development Track for NWDI based development, but when i go to Change Management Service for to create a track I see that CMS domain is not setup!
Can anyone help me in configuring my AS JAVA's NWDI to use only one DEV server(for practice purposes)
    regards,

    Hi,
    you have 2 options.
Either you run the DI-All-in one configuration wizard from the NWA which helps you amongs others to configure the NWDI domain,

  • Local development for APEX Cloud

I would like to develop an APEX cloud app locally and offline (my PC). Later, I'll deploy it to the cloud for testing when finished. I understand that the APEX/DB in the cloud only provides a sub-set of the features of a local APEX/DB installation. To make sure I develop a solution that will run in the cloud and not depending on features not supported, I would like to set up my local PC with the same limitations as the cloud instance. Is there a script/patch etc. that can be run to limit local features (or privs to them) to mimic the same premises and enviroment as when running in the cloud? (I think such exists for MS Azure local development).

    Hi,
Here you can find what privileges are granted to application schema when you create new workspace and you do not Re-use existing schema for parsing schema.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37097_01/doc/doc.42/e35125/priv_db_user.htm#sthref2982
If you stick with those I'm 100% sure you will not encounter problem related privileges in any hosted APEX environment.

  • Cloud based computing for beginners?

The first thing you need to figure out is WHICH cloud skill set are they looking for?  Do they want you to know how to use public cloud offerings like Amazon, Azure and Rackspace?  If so, make an account and start working with them, it's that easy.  There is no way to learn except to do it.
If they are looking for building and supporting cloud computing itself, then you do the same thing that you do with any field.... download the software and build yourself a lab at home.  OpenStack is far and away the dominant cloud platform and it is completely free.  You can do cloud computing at home pretty easily to get yourself started.
Cloud isn't a skill on its own.  That's like says "computers" as a skill.  What specific skill set are they seeking?

This link should introduce you to basics and then acquiring some knowledge, you should contact your local CLOUD SOLUTIONS SMBs to find out more about what they are offering, what they mean by cloud based app solutions, pricing ideas, hosting, reliability & stability, cost effectiveness comparing to your local hosted server, security of your hosted data. Before all that, just go through the basics and then get some consultation as practical knowledge and experiences are better than theories over the internet everywhere.

  • Are web/cloud-based dev and apps dist the future for LV?

The direction of software companies such as Microsoft and Adobe is that they are no longer distributing media for standalone PCs.  (we all know that if we didn't need to dist the hefty LV RTE life would be a bit easier)
You no longer purchase specific versions of their software instead you subcribe and login to have access to the latest versions from any location.
Examples are Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.  Presumably the subscription arrangement for them is more profitable.
Will this (a) be the future for LV development environment; and (b) will this make it possible for developers to adopt similar strategies for distributing their own apps?
Currently is this something that the webservices features of LV can deal with to some degree?  I understand this is limited to a small number of concurrent users at a time?  I also understand that web-based are not exactly the same as cloud-based applications.
Is this something NI is not moving toward since LV has traditionally been tied to fixed hardware (i.e. data acquisition) applications?
Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions..

I can't speak for NI's future plans.  But I don't think a move like this would benefit much of the LabVIEW community.  I'm sure there are some that would fine a clound or web based distribution system convinient but for me many of the system I install LabVIEW, TestStand, DAQmx, XNET, and many other NI tools are offline perminently.  These computers don't get future Windows updates, or NI updates unless I make an effort to put them on the network, or bring over DVDs and external drives with updates on them.
So as for distributing NI applications I don't think this is a good move.  They already have a subscription based approach with things like the VLA, Enterprise solutions, and SSP.  Having the user go NI.com and download the tools you want has worked, and moving to a cloud application won't really work because NI users are quite diverse.  Office 365 works because if you use office, you use the same office.  But with LabVIEW there are so many 3rd party tools and libraries that the LabVIEW you use can be very different from the one I use.
As for distributing your own built applications I think this would be neat, but again not right for me.

  • Cloud based storage for Ovi Store?

I just read about the Ovi Store keeping purchases for only 12 months? Seems unbelievable that it
would be that way. How about Nokia giving us Nokia users a minimum of 2GB of cloud storage so that the purchases can be backed up to and restored when necessary. At this point I can only back it up locally into my hard disk as a .nbu file.
The Ovi Store stopped allowing me to send a app (download to PC is broken) to my hard disk for later install. What options do we Nokia users have at this point?

Google drive.   However dont consider vital data or archives for use IN cloud based storage.
There is no such thing as a "cloud" reductively, its just anonymous server farms.
    Cloud based storage
    Drawbacks:
    1. Cloud storage can only be quasi-possessed.
    2. No genuine true security and privacy of data.
    3. Should never be considered for vital data storage or especially long-term.
    4. *Level-0 security of your vital data.
    Advantages:
    1. Quick, easy and cheap storage location for simplex files for transfer to keep on hand and yet off the computer.
    2. Easy source for small-file data sharing.

Since Office 365 is a Microsoft product and not an Apple product, it doubtful you'll get an answer here. Suggest you post in a M$ Office 365 forum, like this one http://support.microsoft.com/ph/15834/en  Google for others.

  • I am looking for a cloud based photo management solution

I have thousands of photos that I need to organize online so that they can be found easily (via search/tagging) and downloaded from any computer. Essentially I need a cloud-based version of Bridge. Does Bridge work like this? Does Adobe have another solution that does? I am currently a CC member. Thanks for your help. - Jake

No, adobe bridge does not work like that. Just that you might ceate several folders on Adobe Creative Cloud and manage them(if possible).

  • AD sync service account for cloud based application

i have a cloud based application that i am setting up AD sync with. in their directions below i have bolded the ones i need answers too. my domain functional level is windows server 2003
The active directory synchronization requires the following:
A domain user which has the following properties:
The password is known and does not expire - completed
The domain user account has read permissions to all objects in the entire domain within active directory
Confirm that if the domain has been upgraded to Windows 200x functional level from Windows NT4, 2000 or 2003 that we have the appropriate Group permissions below available to the domain user account for the synchronization in addition
to read permissions to the entire domain:
    Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access
    Pre-Windows 2003 Compatible Access
The username and password are passed using the appropriate communication channels - completed
i have created a service account in my AD called myappldap. does a domain user have read permissions to all objects in the entire domain within active directory without adding the to any other security groups except domain users? Or do i have to click on
the top level domain object in AD>go to properties>security>and give them read permission and proprogate down those premissions? Also i do not see Pre-windows 2003 compatible access as a security object i can give this service account read permissions
to. i just wanted to confirm that this is because i am still running a functional domain of windows server 2003?

A domain user has complete Read on everything in the forest.
As for the Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible group, that's a reduced security group to allow NULL password for pre-Windows 2000 DCs, such as the way NT4 RRAS (VPN servers) used. In Windows 2000 and newer, we can eliminate that group, since it's a security concern.
More info to read up on it, here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/e8dfacba-985f-4042-abeb-f341bf37522f/prewindows-2000-compatible-access-group?forum=winserverDS
Everyone group does not include anonymous security identifier
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278259
As for Pre-Windows 2003, I haven't come across anything that would say
pre-2003.  It almost appears that the software is using NULL or some other kind of reduces security on the password. Then again, I could totally be wrong. Is that specifically how the third party software specifies it in the docs?

  • How do I create a UDL for a Cloud-based Database like Amazon ?

I have been using UDL connections to SQL Server without any issues.
I was just asked to look in to Cloud-based databases, but I'm not sure ho to create a connection to the databases once they have been created.
Has anyone done anything like this?
If so, do you have an example the you can share?
    Keith

Unless the cloud based database you are interested in does provide an ODBC and/or OLE/ADO driver there is no way to connect to this database through the LabVIEW Database Toolkit or any other of the Database Toolkits out there that can use an UDL.
However if you talk specifically about a service like Amazon RDS then this is based on a database engine of MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle SQL or PostgreSQL depending what the client chose when setting up the DB in the Amazon cloud and as such you simply would have to use the according database driver and get the correct internet address to connect to. What address that would need to be should be most likely visible in the setup console program or as Amazon calls it the AWS Management Console.
