It seems you lack the rights to change the file, so you may want to repair permissions.
Do you have administrator rights?

  • Elements 11 "Unable to save because write access was not granted."

I previously organized and tagged a batch of raw photos using viewNX on my PC.  The PC crashed and I am now trying to edit that same batch of photos with Elements 11 on my iMac.  I am able to access the photos, but when I try to save my edits I receive the message, "Unable to save because write access was not granted."  I am not on a networked computer, no one else has access to the photos, and the photos are not open in any other program.  Forgive the ingorance, but the the iMac and Elements 11 are new to me; can anyone help me troubleshoot?
    Thank you,
    Heidi

You are wonderful!!!  You nailed it:)  I need to reformat my hard drive for my Mac and meanwhile save my edited photos elsewhere.  I can't tell you how grateful I am for your input...I have over 200 portraits to edit for a non-profit fundraiser in two weeks.  Thank you!!!

  • Could not save because write access was not granted (Mac OS)

I keep getting the above error when working off of my xserve in photoshop. It is new in CS5 which we have recently upgraded to. Several people at my office are getting it. Sometimes it displays a random name with afp in front of it (I assume it is the temp name when photoshop is swapping out the new file for the old file.) It only seems to happen with psd and psb files. I have write access to the volume in question and it doesn't matter if I am the only one accessing the folder or not. I can save as and it seems to work; but it does delete the file.
Very frustrating. Anybody have any ideas? My IT guys are struggling with it, and one of them used to work on the Flash team as well as at Apple.

The following shots are of test files from a production server running Xinet Fullpress, I mention the extremeZIP article because it is the only seemingly solidly documented article on an issue that quite a few people seem to be having.
So I ran some tests to recreate the problem, because if it can't be recreated it's not a problem in the IT world I know because I am in the IT Dept at an advertising agency here in Chicago administrating over a 130 Macs… so that aside, here's a long winded run down of the tests
    I've posted screenshots at:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/116782194976328390062/PhotoshopFileSavingIssue?authkey=Gv1sRgC MK3xpaVrIfFgAE
And a movie of a Save action stuck attempting to save to .afpDeleted file while the source file is not on the server:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FgmaaPamvc
These are unlisted galleries and videos and will be removed when no longer needed
2 machines are used for the test
Machine #1 is running OS X 10.6.4 and is browsing the folder with Finder
machine #2 also 10.6.4 with CS5 is saving to the same file at the moment computer #1 is browsing it with Finder and generating a preview
Most times, the file is deleted and replaced, Finder will "kick you out" of the folder when the file is resaved, or other times show no preview, the timing needs to be precise (yet we have users who aren't trying this on purpose at all and manage to have this happen to them!).
When a write error does occur sometimes it says:
    A)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the correct name used and the files remains.
    B)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the correct name used and the original file is gone but a .afpDeletedxxxxxxxx file is found in the directory via Terminal
    C)
"Could not save "name" because write access was not granted" with the name .afpDeletedxxxxxxxxxx used and the original file is gone although the .afpDeleted file is found via terminal, it can be copied to a name that Finder will not hide, but it's hidden flags are set and 'chflags nohidden' needs to be run for it to appear in Finder
In scenario C, Photoshop will attempt to save to the .afpDeleted name with using Save even though the document name is being displayed properly in the Photoshop window. Using lsof it can be seen that Photoshop have the resource fork in use (only after the 2nd save attempt though), closing all open documents will still have this file in use, only upon quitting will it not be.
I wish I had taken a look at the .afpDeleted flags to see if it was locked or not during this, but lsof results of it being in use is pretty weird!
So here's some more puzzling evidence, thanks for your help.

  • Could not save  because write access was not granted.

    Hi
I use lightroom 4 whit photoshop CS6 when I send any file from my NAS server whit LR4 to PS6 when I want save it take "Could not save  because write access was not granted" .
But I didn't have this problem whit LR3.6 and PS5.
    I use mac os x 10.7.4

This always happens to me on the NAS on LR3 and LR4.  If the file is local, no problem.  But on the NAS it has issues with permissions.  For me it says the file is in use and can't be overwritten.  I'm trying a new drive today with a differnet filesystem (HFS+).  Maybe that will work better.

  • 10.7.2 Photoshop Could not save because write access was not granted. (To a server)

After MacOS 10.7.2 update Photoshop CS5 files are not saving when opened directly from an Apple AFP Server (10.5.8). Error dialog: Could not save "file name" because write access was not granted. If canceled, the file disappears from the server. Worked fine in 10.7.1. Anyone else have this problem? Help.

I have been working on this for the last few days. I'm getting the Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. error when I open a file from my Leopard server.
I have a variety of machines in the office that I have been using to test with. It seems that the server understands who the files 'owner' is, not only by visually getting info, but with the command line, manually checking permissions. The workstations connecting to the server are in various states of confusion based on their OS. Some show the owner correctly (Leopard OS), while others (Snow Leopard and Lion) show (_unknown) as the owner. The lack of understanding of sho the file owner is seems to be the culprit, but I can't fogire out how to address it, as it's not a permission issue in my thought, rather an issue with the workstations and their OS.
I will say that intil about 2 weeks ago, we didn't have this problem. So I wonder if there has been an Apple pdate that changes something that could be causing this.
How this manifests itself, and is a real nightmare waiting to happen is when working on files from the server.  I open Photoshop to edit and save a file on a Leopard machine, the files saves fine. When I do the exact same thing on Snow Leopard or Lion machine, I get Could not save "file.psd" because write access was not granted. The files disappears and I have to save again to save it. When I go back to the Leopard machine to open the file, it opens and saves just fine.
As a test, I cleared my keychains on the Lion and Snow Leopard machines, but that didn't help.
Has anyone been able to figure out anything on this so far?

  • Could not Save As because write access was not granted

I get an Error Message every time I try to Save As my Image after working with them on my iMac why?
here the Message I get it: Could not Save As because write access was not granted,I try both JPG & PSD.Thanks

You could start by repairing permissions with Disk Utility and go over the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance etc.)?
Edit: Of course you could also manually check the permissions for the file, the folder, the folder the folder resides in etc. (File > Get Info in the Finder).
And just to make sure: You are saving to a local volume and not across a network?

  • Could not save "IMG_5116.psd" because write access was not granted.

"Could not save “IMG_5116.psd” because write access was not granted." i keep on getting this error message     why/?????

    nimrod levy,
It seems like a permission issue. Grant 'write and read' permission to the file.
MAC : Right click on the file > click on "Get Info"
scroll to the bottom "Permissions" >  unlock it > set permission as "Write and read" to all the users.
Win: Right click on the file > "Properties".
    Uncheck "Attributes: Read only".
Go to 'Security' tab >  'Edit'
Give full control check all in "Alloy" column; uncheck all from deny column if any to all the users.

  • Error of "Could not save (file name) because write access was not granted

Error of "Could not save (file name) because write access was not granted. The users are pulling the files from a Mountain Lion server. They all have read\write access. If they try to save the file in the same directory they get that error but they can save it anywhere else on the sharepoint. If they save it in another directory then reopen it make a change and do a save as they can save it back to the original directory. Has anyone else come across this same issues

It is an enterprise solution. I just do not see why you cant save directly to the server. It seems to get weird errors. Some Adobe stuff saves fine on the server and some of it doesnt. It seems Adobe related. The permissions on the server are set correctly so it isnt a permission error

  • Anybody Knows how to fix "Could not save file because write access was not granted?

I need a help how to fix message "Could not save file because write access was not granted"

    Hi Silkrooster,
The operating System that I am using is an Imac Os x10.8.5.

  • Keep getting this when trying to save a photo... Could not save "DTP_0006.JPG" because write access was not granted.

Need to know how to fix this to be able to save edited portraits again.

I am having the same problem with Photoshop CS5Extended.  I am using a MAC, and a NAS (Synology drive).  I only have problems saving onto the drive.  I can copy files to the drive just fine, but trying to save with Photoshop I get the same "write access not granted" message.  Here below are my steps:
    1.  Open .NEF file in Adobe Lightroom
    2.  Right click, say "open in Photoshop" (file moves over to Photoshop)
    3.  Edit file in Photoshop and save.  I get error "write access not granted."  If I try to save as, I get the same error.  It will not save the file in Photoshop to my Synology drive.
    4.  I can save this same file on my Mac Hard Drive without any problems.  I can copy and paste and image using the finder into my Synology drive and it works.  But trying to save an image onto the drive using Photoshop creates errors.

  • Adobe Photoshop - "Could not save "filename.psd" because write access was not granted."

    Good Afternoon,
We have been working through this issue for the past year pretty much and over that time we've migrated to a new Mac OS X 10.9.5 Server and up to CC14 and we are still experiencing this error randomly with our Photoshop users. We have users that use Dreamweaver very heavily on the same server and have never seen this issue, therefor we are pretty certain it is isolated to Photoshop. We've also been able to test back to CS6 also having this issue.
Here is a screenshot of the error users will get after opening of file off the server (doesn't matter if its AFP or SMB) and trying to save any changes they have made:
We initially thought this was an issue on one of our older Windows servers that utilized ExtremeZIP, but since we've moved completed over to a Mac server we have been able to rule that out. We've also opened up a case with Apple Engineering have been able to show that all our permissions are set correctly and that it doesn't appear to be an Apple issue.
When our users get the above error they basically have to save the file as a new version and then go back and TRY to delete the old version, as they usually get the following error:
This has been a very long on-going issue and our users are really getting fed up as it is causing a lot of setbacks and reduction of being able to fully utilize their time. We've been able to duplicate this issue on all the OS's we have on campus including Mac OS X 10.8.5, 10.9.5 and 10.10.2.
If an email is provided I can send a sysdiagnose file over and ls -lae0 output of the server if needed.
    Thank you,

  • Could not save ".afpDeleted1354638" because write access was not granted.

Running Cs5.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I got this message.
i get 'this file has been altered ...' messages quite a lot when saving, but have not seen an “.afpDeleted1354638” message before.
    Anybody else come across it?

Any chance you have a Finder window open on the folder where you're trying to save to?  If so, does the problem occur if you close it?
I'm no Mac expert but I've heard that Finder can interfere with file operations under some conditions.

  • Could not save as "8.jpg" because write access was not granted.

I cannot save images with my new photoshop cc. How do I get rid of this error message?

Fix the permissions on the folder/volume where you are attempting to save the file -- because you don't have permission to write files there.
