Recognize Special Folder in JFileChooser

Hi, does anyone know how to recognize special project folders like in NETBEANS 5.5 inside a JFileChooser??
I want to create an application to handle "Projects" (which contains configuration files and data files for such project).
What I would like to do is, that when someone opens my application, and they chose the OPEN PROJECT option (like in netbeans) they see their "PROJECT FOLDER" in a different color or icon in the JFileChooser.
Thanx!

  • Itunes will not recognize new folder

    Hi!
I'm trying to get iTunes to recognize a folder on an external hard drive as the main music folder.
I've gone to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and changed the folder to one of my external, but even after repeated attempts it will not recognize this folder.
    Am I doing something wrong?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

< I've gone to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and changed the folder to one of my external, but even after repeated attempts it will not recognize this folder.
It's not supposed to add music from that folder.
It will use that folder for everything in the future you add to iTunes.
You add music to iTunes by File -> Add to library and select the folder where the music is.

  • Special Folder Redirection like in Citrix

We currently run a number of published applications on a Citrix server farm. On of the client options on Citrix is called "Special Folder Redirection, Use My Documents and Desktop folders".
When this is enabled, a user who is using a Citrix app and tries to Open/Save a file, the save or open dialog (or Windows Explorer) shows the My Document or Desktop folders that exist on the local (client) PC. This is completely transparent to the user.
This makes it easy for users in a Citrix published app to use their local files without having to navigate to Client (C:) \users\Theirname\Desktop.
I'm evaluating using RemoteApp under Server 2012 R2 as a possible replacement for Citrix. Is it possible to emulate this feature?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
As I understand your question, you want to place the RemoteApp file on your client local desktop instead of searching the other long way. If misunderstand please clarify. If you want the way which I told, then seems no need to do any special task, just can
open the RD Web URL on local computer, access with username and password and after that check the related RemoteApp. Once you find the RemoteApp we can download the rdp file of that RemoteApp on local system desktop. You can check below snap for detail.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • When using Time Machine to restore some Mac Mails, after clicking restore, a message shows "restoring 480 mesages.  They are supposed to appear on Mac Mail sidebar in a special folder.  They are not there and I have no idea where they are?  Would apprecia

I am having a problem with the Time Machine in restoring Mac Mail back to a certain date. Everything works fine, with Mac Mail the active application and entering Time Machine, and I have found the mail file after the location process is done, then I hit Restore and there is a messages "restoring 480 messages", but I cannot locate them anywhere. What is suppose to happen is that a special file should appear in the sidebar of Mac Mail in the section On My Mac.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    I use Mountain Lion.

Although you can restore messages from a Time Machine snapshot within the Mail application, it generally won't work with messages that were saved by an older version of Mail. In that case, you have to use an alternative method.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Inside that folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use. Decide which ones you want to restore messages from.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then selectRestore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
    File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.

  • Localization and special folder names

    Hi,
I'd previously changed my Mac's language to Spanish, back to English to do some troubleshooting, and most recently back to Spanish. However, I've noticed that, contrary to the first time I'd changed it, several "special" folders in my home folder remain in English. "Pictures," "Library," "Music," "Movies," and "Public" are now in Spanish, but "Desktop," "Documents," and "Web" remain in English. I've been unable to find solutions. Any help?
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

Hey, that solved it. Turns out, Desktop and Documents were lacking the .localized file, and I know exactly why, in retrospect. I'd accidentally deleted the contents of those two folders and had restored them from a backup -- sans the .localized files.
    Thanks so much!

  • How to recognize site folder after formatting HD

I did some search on the forum before posting but didn't find an answer. And my problem is this:
Few weeks back I formatted my HD and re-installed everything back from scratch. I have a backup of my previous site folder that was designed by iWeb09. But now after re-installing iWeb09 I don't know how to make it recognize it.
Thank you for your help in advance.

No... you got me wrong! It is not because of that I rate it as backward!
Backward in the sense of capability, flexibility and professionalism. The only thing that forced me to use iWeb was the shift to Mac early last year. And I started with it out of curiosity to see what it can do.
IMO it's only strength is the ease of use... other than that, it fails. I don't want to promote other softwares here, but I was using one on my PC I think I'll get back to it now through Bootcamp.

  • Iphone does not recognize Notes folder

Have iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.3.  Turn on Notes for a Gmail account, and all is fine.  Notes folder created, new account appears in Notes app.  I do the same for my company hosted IMAP account, and no Notes folder created, no new account appears in Notes app.  With Notes still enabled on the IMAP account, I add the Notes folder manually (from my computer), and my desktop Mail app running OSX 10.6.7 picks up the Notes account under Reminders as it should.  The Notes folder appears in my IMAP folder list on the iPhone, but the Notes app on the phone still doesn't recognize it as a Notes account.  What's really wierd is I go to Setup, open up the Notes app configuration, and I can set my IMAP Notes folder as the default account.  Even when doing so, the account does not appear in the Notes app.
This happen to anyone else?  Any thoughts on how to make the Notes app recognize the Notes folder in my IMAP account?

  • Special folder icons

    Hi!
A cosmetic question: I've been playing around with some of my special folders (namely Pictures, Movies and Music) which I moved outside the Home folder replacing them with symbolic links. Now everything is still working fine, but Finder doesn't show their special icons anymore (just the plain folder ones).
Any hints on how to put back the original special icons? (I've tried creating new folders with the proper names inside my Home but they keep the plain icon).

Finder assigns custom icons to folders with the appropriate names inside the home folder of the current startup drive. You may have to at least restart the Finder if you have been changing things about to see the icons, or perhaps logout/in.
The icns files that are used for these and other items live here:
    "/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources"
Control click on CoreTypes.bundle and select "Show Package Contents" to burrow down into the Resources folder. The icns files can be opened in Preview, make sure the focus is on the full size graphic and not the drawer, and you can copy the icon and paste it in the GetInfo box for whatever you want.

  • How do I change IMAP "special folder" names

For the special folders for "Trash" and "Sent", even though Mail.app displays the names thus, the actual folder names that it creates on the IMAP server are "Deleted Messages" and "Sent Messages". That seems a little absurd to me. If the designers of Mail.app thought that "Trash" and "Sent" were the best names for those folders, why did they make the actual folder names "Deleted Messages" and "Sent Messages"? And why is there not a way in the account settings for me to tell Mail.app which IMAP folders to use for those special folders, a la Thunderbird?
The problem is that, when I'm not on my Mac I have to use either Thunderbird or the Zimbra webmail client--BOTH of which (rationally) use "Trash" and "Sent" for their special trash and sent folders. Thunderbird, of course, lets you choose which IMAP folder to use. But Zimbra doesn't. It would be REALLY nice if Mail.app would allow me to choose which IMAP folders to use for Trash, Sent, Drafts, and Junk, just like Thunderbird does.
(To make matters even worse, if you happen to connect to your IMAP account with MS Outlook, it creates folders called "Deleted Items" and "Sent Items". Now I ask you, WHAT'S WRONG WITH JUST "Trash" and "Sent"???
    --Dan

Subject to names the IMAP server creates, you can often tell Mail to use any folder for these purposes. Open a folder, click on Mailbox in the Menubar, choose Use This Mail For and see if the options are in black type or gray. If black you can choose.
However, Trash is a category in the Sidebar. The name given to standard mailboxes used in account folders (each account has its own set), whether POP or IMAP are set in the application. With IMAP there is some ability to alter, depending upon the standards of the IMAP server, I believe.

  • How do I get OSX to recognize a folder with an extension as a package (it is NOT a folder, but finder thinks it is...)?

I am using a program (RapidWeaver by RealMac Software) which utilizes OSX "bundle" folders to store data as files.  Originally, when I installed the program, double-clicking any of these "sandwich" files would bring up RapidWeaver and open the project for editing.  However, OSX suddenly stopped recognizing these "sandwich" files and when I double-click them, OSX automatically, and erroneously, opens them as a folder to reveal the contents inside which include a Contents.plist file, DefaultPageAttributes folder, Pages folder, and README.txt which advises "This is a RW Sandwich (.rwsw) file, which is designed to be a "bundle" (directory) on Mac OS X.  If you are reading this, it's assumed that you're somewhat curious about the innards of how the program stores its data.".  However, I did not right-click the folder/FILE to access this data; but OSX magically stopped recognizing it as a "bundle" directory, and NOBODY knows why or how this occurred.  I have asked the so-called Apple "experts" with their fancy [toilet-paper] diplomas, but they did not know how to remedy the situation (perhaps Apple already fired the skilled [expensive] labour and re-hire [cheaper] gr12 graduates to follow SOP's--as Antech Diagnostic Labs did shortly after invading Canada--to save money?  How does a multi-trillion dollar company have to save money?  They're selling telephones for $719+ for crying out loud!  That's more than the price of ALL the telephone's I've owned in my LIFETIME bar the iPhone 4 I bought; that would of course double that price... oh, and the iPhone 3GS before that for $900 which I guess would triple or quadruple my previous telephone purchases; silly me, spending $900 on a paper-holder...)
Hopefully, someone in this forum is smarter and more knowledgeable than those "on-paper engineers"?  Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you to any one out there who has the iMac knowledge to solve this conundrum.  Although you may not receive remuneration from Apple Inc., which you should, since being able to answer this question means that you are more knowledgeable about their product than their entire iMac team and CEO!

    Michal,
iCal Help is a good place to start. Here are a couple of examples:

  • Why does OS X Finder recognize a folder as a file when it counts the number of files?

When I select a folder in Finder and click cmd+i(or cmd+option+i), it shows the number of files in the folder. However, that number is weird for me, because they count a folder itself as a file. For example, when I have a single file in my Download folder and I clicked cmd+i on Download folder, then the number of files in a inspection window is 2, not 1. It is because that number includes not only the file inside the folder, but also the folder itself. (Check the below image)
This is not a big problem if there is no hierarchical structure in my folder. But, if I have thousands of files and folders inside, it is really hard to figure out how many files(not folders) are inside. I cannot understand why Mac OS X counts a folder as a file. In fact, a folder is not an actual file, just a container.
So, is there any philosophy to do like this? Or is there any way to count only the number of actual files?

    Sorry byron1st
there is no way to count only files in a folder.
Finder will count everything inside, folders and files.
Information about a folder will count the same.
If there are no subsubfolders in one folder, maybe a little trick can help:
Select list view for the open folder, close all subfolders.
Type command+# to see the footer of the window, that counts (hopefully) only the closed subfolders (content) in the open folder.
    Remember the amount.
Hold option and click on one triangle in front of one subfolder. All subfolders will be opened!
The difference between amount a and amount b is the number of files (and subsubfolders, if unfortunately inside…).

  • Yosemite doesn't recognize special characters in password when logging in

    Hi everyone,
I installed Yosemite yesterday on my mid-2011 MBA and discovered that after restarting it, I was unable to log into it. First, I'd like to precise that I'm using a French keyboard, it could have an importance afterwards.
The password I use for my account is quite complex and uses a special character. Until now, it worked perfectly, but I discovered that, on Yosemite, I have to type twice the special character and the one after, in order to get it worked. Otherwise, it acts like if I haven't typed these two.
Also, this behavior is kind of weird because if I log out, I don't have the issue: it works perfectly. So the issue is just after a shut down/restart.
The only way I could restart the first time was by using the tool made from Apple when you loose your password (pressing the power button until it shuts down). Once my laptop entered that mode, I could just type my current password and choose a new one. But still, I don't get why it works on every screen, except the one after a shut down/restart.
I hope Apple could bring a quick fix for that because it's really annoying. Also, if someone gets the same issue, try to type twice the special character(s) and maybe the one(s) that is/are just after.
    Bye.

A password is classified as an oracle identifier and must conform to the rules for indentifiers. To include special characters you need to enclose it in double quotes e.g. "vos1s05!"

  • Classic will not recognize system folder

I have installed Classic from the cd that came with my computer. The system folder for os9 shows up in root next to the osx folder, but there is no 9 on the folder. When I try to run classic in system preferences, it says os9 is not installed. I've seen other postings saying to "bless" it by dragging the finder from the os9 system folder to the desktop then back again, but this does nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hello berne04,
Did you try this (from the link that Texas Mac Man posted)? Try it instead of dragging and dropping the Finder.
No "blessed" Mac OS 9 System Folder
If Classic doesn't start, but Mac OS 9 is installed, the System Folder may not be "blessed".
Open System Preferences and choose Classic from the View menu. You may see an alert box with the message:
"No startup volume: There is no volume with a system folder that supports starting Classic. Please install Mac OS 9.1 or later."
It may not be necessary to reinstall Mac OS 9. Try these steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. From the View menu, choose Startup Disk. The Startup Disk pane appears.
    3. Note the current Startup Disk selection, which is a Mac OS X volume.
    4. Click the Mac OS 9 System Folder you want to bless.
    5. From the View menu, choose Show All.
    6. From the View menu, choose Startup Disk.
    7. Reselect the volume you noted in Step 3.
    8. From the View menu, choose Show All.
    9. Quit System Preferences.
    Hope This Helps,
    Jeff

What do you actually want, philscha?
You can use most any graphic for an individual folder icon just by Copying it then Pasting into the icon at the top of that folder's Get Info box…
Alternatively there are various utilities to change overall themes, which I can't advise you about as personally I wouldn't dream of using such a thing to mess up my Mac…
