Reconstruct .mov from AV files

Hello experts.
I had a problem with compressor recently and lost a .mov file somehow. I have three-part AV files. I would like to save my self the time of re exporting. is it possible to use these to work with in compressor?

Your account names are probably different on the two Macs. If you know the UNIX command line, open a terminal window and run:
$ id
You should see a line that starts with something like this:
uid=501(your_user_id_here)
now check the owner of the folder you copied over:
$ ls -ld Music
drwx------+ 8 some_user_id_here staff 272 May 14 16:08 Music
Do the IDs match? If not, you could change the ownership. Say your id is "johnsmith"
$ chown -R johnsmith Music
Now try and access it with iTunes.

Movie from image files jerky playback

I'm making movies which have to be rendered out as an image sequence but when I play back the footage in Quicktime it is totally jerky and is skipping massively only using about 8 frames in a 250 frame sequence as far as I can see. It is totally unusable which is heartbreaking after so much work.
Quicktime movies other than image sequence ones play fine.
All the frames are there and numbered correctly.
This is a problem that started a few weeks ago and gradually got worse and worse.
It was suggested elsewhere that there wasn't enough hard drive space so I freed up a load and if anything it's now much worse.
Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong and how to fix it? Is there yet another obscure setting somewhere no one tells you about?

ti book 1 gig mhrz, 1 gig RAM, 60 gig HD Mac OS X (10.4.8) rendering image sequences from Artlantis and Poser. Both have same playback issue in Quicktime.

"Small files and big ones" is not really enough to go on. What codec are you using? A small 10 second clip in H264 at 640X480 and 10 mb/sec might choke all but the mightiest macs.

One USB HD with Multiple AEBS, Move from NAS/File Server

Okay to explain my question I'll describe what i want to do. If this is possible i would buy 2 airport extremes, and one USB HD. I would then use the USB HD to do TimeMachine backups to an Airdisk. I would like to then be able to take the USB HD with me when i go to work, and be able to do Airdisk backups there, having connected the same USB drive to different TC or AEBS, and afterwards, obviously bring it home and continue doing backups there. Is this at all possible? Has anyone tried? Can i at least browse my backups after having connected them to a different AEBS?
Another question is, up until now i have been using an "unsupported" backup to my Linux File Server over netatalk. I did this, mainly because i have raid, and my data can't really be lost this way. Is there anyway to move this backup to an Airdisk? I read something here about different formats being used to save data on different types of backups. The share is on a partition that is formated ext3, if that helps at all. Oh and the backup itself is a sparseimage.

It should work fine, but you may run out of space quickly if you back up multiple computers to the disk.

Importing a VLC movies from .avi files into iMovie

I have a camera that records in .avi and I watch them on my Mac with VLC.
Is there a way to import these video clips into iMovie. I do not seem to be doing it correctly.

You may need to convert the .avi clips to another format. The free program MPEG Streamclip can convert most formats. It's downloadable from this site: http://www.squared5.com/
It's best to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). This is the format that iMovie automatically converts compressed files to when importing from cameras or camera archives, for example, AVCHD .mts files. The conversion process expands the compressed files into full frames suitable for editing by iMovie. MPEG Streamclip will do this conversion for you, allowing the exported AIC file to be easily imported to iMovie without further conversion.
MPEG Streamclip can also convert files to the H.264 format, which also works nicely with iMovie '09.

Can not import movies from a file folder into iPhoto 11 on my iMac

I have movies in Iphoto on Macbook but when i try to import the movies into Iphoto 11 on my IMAC i get a message that says format unrecognized.

Download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later on your iMac and see if they will play with that.
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Trfy to Import the folder of videos into that library. Can you?

Magic Movie from file not camera

Is there anyway to make a Magic Movie from a file already on the computer?
Every time I try it wants to read it from the tape on a camcorder.

To get it straight in - I doubt it.
Way around:
• Figure out how to get it into iMovie - may be by converting to streamingDV and import
• Copy back to Camera and a new miniDV tape
∆ Use this with MagicMovie. Probably You have to put in transitions manually by doing it this way

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
cd /
(cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
ls means list files/directories
so:
cd /Users
ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose)) this flag is very optional.
you will see
fred
user2
for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
for example:
cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
cd /
cd Users
cd user2
cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
/Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
so in your case.
sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character / it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
so
cd /Users/fred
is not the same as
cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\ on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\ (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
pwd
it will tell you where you are.
for example:
cd /
pwd
this shows /
cd Users
pwd
this now shows /Users
cd /System/Library
pwd will show /System/Library
cd /
cd /Users
cd fred
cd Library
pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
whatever pwd returned / myfile
I hope that makes sense.
