Recording commentary track for video clip

I have recorded and edited some video clips and now i want to record an audio commentary to layer onto the audio of the video clip, like how directors do the alternate commentary track for a lot of dvds. It would be a recording of 2-6 people sitting viewing the video together with it's original audio.
Ideally,
1)I would mic each person and feed the mic into the computer to record them each as seperate tracks. I think stp can't do that, but garageband might?
2)I don't want the mics picking up the original audio of the scene they are watching, but I want the people giving the commentary to hear the original audio, as well as what they are saying and what the other people that are sitting in and recording are saying. So the only way I can see that working is to somehow have the original audio of the scene piped into headphones, along with the audio of all the other tracks being recorded.
So how is this all possible, either through my method or another method you could think of. And what equipment would i need, like a mixer or audio interface. If I can't do this natively in stp, than what can I use, like garageband, that i can import into stp for final mixing.

1) STP 1 can't do multi-track recording but STP 2 will be able to do it. In the meantime, yes, you can use GarageBand.
2) You're right, you'll need headphones.
If you want dedicated audio tracks for each one, you'll need an audio interface with multiple preamps like MOTU 8pre. You could also use only a stereo mic to record the whole room. That way, you could use an interface with only two mic pres and you'll need less mics too. And since it would be only one track, you'll be able to use STP. For this kind of recording, you'll want to use condenser mics.

  • No volume adjustment for video clips

    Hi there!
I have noticed that the volume adjustment for video clips, set in the options pane of the clip itself, will not be respected by iTunes while playing the video.
Is there someone else with a similar issue or already with a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I've tested all versions since 10.0.1 (for PC) and none work. Versions 10.0.1 and below will allow you to change the volume adjustmant and the equalizer setting for individual videos. No answer from apple!  You can try an older version like I did.

  • Custom Library section - For Video Clips

Hey I was wondering if there is away to make a custom itunes library section for video clips?
I have a bunch of funny, racing, and youtube clips I downloaded a long time ago. They are the only thing I dont have in my iTunes library but they dont fit in the Music or Tv section.
Any suggestion? or scripts in order to be able to add a custom section, I dont care if it doesnt sync with my iphone, ipod, or apple tv. I just want them to be in iTunes.
    Thanks

Bump, even if there isn't a way to have a custom section, is there a way to submit a suggestion to Apple support. It would be great to have other sections that relate to what kind of Media. Since I dont read Audio books I would put them in that section but it doesnt read video files. I really hate having them under the movie section and music video section.
I really hope apple / iTunes team will allow custom sections that will allow any video files to be added.

  • A tip how to make iMovie '08 rescan the iPhoto library for video clips

I could not figure out how to easily force iMovie '08 to rescan all iPhoto library video clips. My problem was that my Casio S880 videos had the audio format DVI ADPCM which is not supported by iMovie '08. I made a script which transcoded all my iPhoto library videos' audio track to AAC. But after this was done, the iMovie didn't still show them in iPhoto videos. iMovie checks only for NEW entries in iPhoto Library after last scan.
One simple workaround is to duplicate the transcoded video in iPhoto and then delete the original. But if you have a lot of clips here is a better way to do this:
NOTE: This trick does not reimport already imported clips. This trick is useful only if you want to force iMovie '08 to recheck old iPhoto movie clips if they are now valid for iMovie '08 or not.
    1. Close iMovie '08
    2. Open file HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie7.plist with the Property List Editor application (I think the application is part of Apple Developer Tools, I'm not sure if included in default installation). You may want to take a backup of the property file before opening it!
    3. Find "lastiPhotoXMLDate" property and change the date value to be some older date, for example if you want to scan all files just change the year part to 1980 or similar.
    4. Save the property file
    5. Open iMovie '08, it should now check all iPhoto movie clips again if they are valid for iMovie '08.
The same thing can be achieved by just deleting the HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie7.plist file, but then you lose all your other settings.

I apologize for my confusion on your question.  I find that depending on the principal of each photo and my target audience to determine the time frame for each photo.  It seems most people get impatient with viewing one photo for more than 1-2 seconds if the photo is not complex.
If there are several things that interests the viewers in any one image, they want to look at it a second or two longer.  If the movie of images is a training aid, the images may need to be more than 3 seconds.  For intro's, or a trailer for a training movie, no longer than 1-2 seconds.
That was a long answer to say, generally speaking, I find 3 seconds to be an average time length.

  • How do I record multiple tracks while video remains visible?

    Hi,
I need to create an additional audio track for a video. This will be a recorded voice over that is translating the original into Spanish.
I would like to do all of this in SoundtrackPro after "Exporting for SoundtrackPro" from Final Cut Pro. However, I cannot figure out how to record an additional track (not just record on top of the audio file). I'm probably going to have to do "takes," so I need tracks!
Would it be better to use GarageBand and watch the video on Quicktime (or on another monitor)? Or STP on another monitor?
I'm pretty open to the easiest way to do this and still get good sound. Any hints, tips, and ideas are welcome!
(Just a note: Once I get my recorded audio, I would like to have the original audio just barely heard beneath the translation...like on the Olympic documentaries. I know how to do this, I just thought I'd throw it out there to keep in mind...)
    thanks,
    theprincessspy

    Hi,
You can add your video to STP.
    Add additional tracks - Command-T.
    Record on them.
    Mix it.
Export your mix to QuickTime movie, or AIFF to import back into FCP.

  • Button AS for video clip

    Hello folks,
I know my question is probably stupid and very basic. But I
am new in Flash, so there is obviously lot of confusion. I would
like to post few video clips on my website (there are in Quick Time
format right now) What is the best way to do it. Should I import it
to Flash's library and play the clip from there? If so, do I need
to convert it to .fla first, or can I leave it in QT? And what is
the Action Script for this. When someone clicks on button called
for example: SEE VIDEO. What AS do I have to put into that button
    for this video to play.
Thank you very much for any input.
    Janek

Yes, I am an extremely new user, am having a similar problem
that I have a video file that I would like to play, but first I
have a jpg file that I would like to act as a button to start the
video. I have documentation (from Macromedia Training from the
Source) that tells me I can add AS to the hit portion of the button
(as I used to in flash 5) but I can't seem to get this to work. The
script assist tells me I can't add AS to the button.
Thanks for any help you can give me. suenashed

  • Using a Video Button. Do I have to make a timeline for video clip?

I am just learning how to use Encore CS6 and I have a question.
When I add a Video Button to my menu and want add a video clip inside that button do I have to make that clip its own Timeline or can I keep the clip in my Project Panel and just Drag and Drop  it into the Video Button itself?
    Thanks in advance
    Encore CS 6
    Power Mac Intel Xeon
    10GB RAM

Thanks, but I have another question:
Let's say I have made made 20 new individual 30 Second QT Movies (or QT Reference Movies to save Hard Drive Space), and I want to use them on a Menu that I will constuct using a Template Menu and Submenus found in Encore CS 6.
I make my Menu ans Submenus and put 20 Video Buttons on 4 Submenus (5 on each Submenu). I import all 20 of my Newly Made QT Movies that I am going to use for the Video Buttons.
In order to place them in each Video Button, I would have to make 20 Different Timelines each consisting on an Individual 30 second QT movie and linking each timelone to a different button?
    Is that how it works?
Do I have to have these timelines open, or can I just link to them inside the Project Pane in Encore?
Can I put all 20 QT movies on one Timeline, add markers to the beginning of each one and link the Video Buttons to each indivifual QT movie?
    Thanks in advamce

  • Recommended method for video clip on site

Hi all and thank you very much for your help so long.
I have a video clip of about 6minutes. What is the recommended way to put this clip on my site? I don't want viewers to use a lot of bandwidth to watch this. Is it better to put in on YouTube with the embedded link on my site or what do you think?
This will be the first time ever I put a video clip on my site.
    Regards,
    Deon

    Hi Deon,
Yes, using an external service seems to be a good choice. Their servers are designed to deliver video.

  • Ken Burns effect for video clips

I like how you can pan a photo using ken burns in final cut pro x. Is there a way to do the same feature in video? I'd love a simple way to move around within a video clip without having to film using a slider.

I wonder if it would work better when video cams start outputting 4k.
Not really, not if you edit in a 4k project. It's becoming more common to shoot large frame formats and edit in 1080p, allowing you to reframe the shot. Personally I think that's just lazy, but I'm then one film camera old school.

  • Using Automator to record Spotify tracks for iTunes

So...I'm trying to figure if this is even possible. Calling all Automator--savvy users!
Is it possible to make a workflow that can:
    Open Spotify and Audacity
Have Spotify play a track and have Audacity record it
When the track is over, have Audacity stop recording and save the file somewhere...like in iTunes!
Rinse and repeat this process for an entire playlist or even multiple playlists...

Possibly, except this is probably construed as a workaround for a digital rights restriction and would likely be prohibited from discussion here by the terms of use of the forum.

  • How do I fix a recorded audio track that is clipped?

HELP! I am new to Garageband and I ran into a problem last week while recording an audio message. When I began recording the audit message with Garageband I noticed that the input signal level was so high that it was constantly being clipped. I couldn't stop doing the recording so I continued to the end of the message. Now that I have the complete audio recording and it is clipped throughout the entire message is there anyway I can compress or dynamically adjust the range of the recording to either eliminate or reduce the clipping?
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It is kind of like recording on a junkie mic. Maybe you can improve the sound or remove artifacts but it will never be as good a rerecord on a decent setup. Digital clipping may be able to be fixed but I cannot believe the sound would be anywhere near decent, especially if you clipped non-stop. The Soundtrack Pro claim must be referring to small moments of clipping, not the entire track.

  • Where can I buy hip, upbeat tracks for video projects?

I have a couple of projects (corporate training, promotional type videos) that will require music.
I don't have time to learn how to make music. Can anybody recommend where I can buy a CD of hip, upbeat, music tracks I can use for my videos?

That type of upgrade is not possible on a iMac, the card is on the logic board.
